The two things that plague this place from being all it can be really boils down to two things: service and food. Most places can get by with at least one of the two but when both are faltering, then it's a tough sell overall. The remaining two stars are for the speedy delivery and relatively solid prices. This location has been around for a good minute and yet they've somehow fallen behind their sister location in Sunnyside (#1), which isn't all that great to begin with either. There are places to sit here, but it's primarily a takeout / delivery spot. I'm not sure where to start with the food. The chicken is supposed to be the star of the show, with a bunch of birds all lined up at the window slowly being cooked to woo the crowd. While the chicken has a nice char to the skin, the rest of it is incredibly bland. I've been dousing it in the house salsa every time and somehow that's still not enough. The sides are extremely mediocre. Mac and cheese is watery, almost like a bad version of boxed mac. The mashed potatoes are similar, as is the orzo salad, potato salad, and veggies. On a happier note, the rice is the best option of the bunch, but my apprehension to try other items is unlikely to change. Lastly, the service has been tough. Some days it's rude phone manners, others it's 'tude from the counter. Most of the staff is bilingual, as Spanish is super useful in this hood. I opted for a family meal: 1 Whole Chicken, pita bread, and 2 sides. $18.50 if ordering in-store, but with delivery it came out to be about $25 including taxes and service fee. I guess I can understand the mixed bag of reviews on here, it's a place with ups and downs. Personally I really enjoy the chicken, which is not surprisingly the star of the show. It's charred nice and is decently seasoned, but yeah you definitely need to use a sauce on it, one of theirs or one of your own. But that's fine, I'm just glad the meat is high quality and it's a good size, especially for the $. The sides aren't great, but the platanos are a solid choice and they give you a lot, they usually last a whole week. Again you'll probably have to add some flavor yourself when you reheat, but it's better than having to start from scratch? The atmosphere ... well the less said the better, this isn't really a place you want to dine in, and the service is uneven, nice sometimes, sketchy others. Fairly simple menu of chicken (and other meats) with various side options. Decided on the Half Chicken meal with Two Sides ($10.75). A large offering of grilled chicken served alongside my options of potato salad and roasted potatoes. Chicken is only lightly seasoned but cooked well while not being greasy. Potato salad is your standard fare - potatoes are a little too hard but fine enough. Roasted potatoes were much better and similarly lightly seasoned as the chicken. This was our first time eating here. We got delivery last night. The person who took our order was very polite and the delivery arrived in a reasonable amount of time. Sam had the spicy chicken wing zing sandwich deluxe. I ordered a Diet soda and the sirloin beef kabob with yellow rice and corn. Sam tells me he liked the fries, but the patty wasn't what he would call spicy. (He adores spicy food btw.) It also didn't resemble chicken. It was a preformed breaded chicken patty. He had ordered extra "green sauce" which was, according to him "like tomatillo or salsa Verde combined with the chutney you get at your table in Indian restaurants." Since 4 tiny dipping cups of it came in the bag, we assume it is included with all deliveries in some quantity. As for mine? It wasn't what I ordered. A) I ordered "Sirloin Beef" and got chicken. B) The corn was so bland in its own right, that it tasted like the yellow rice it had been delivered with. C) The yellow rice was the most under-cooked portion of rice I can ever recall being served. After 3 bites I surrendered and simply couldn't eat it at all. D) The chicken itself had seasoning, but was so close to dried out as to be sad face inducing. Lucky for me I keep home made BBQ sauce in the house at all times! The pita bread was fine and plain as normal. This has been my go to spot for years. I was there today and I couldn't believe that the woman at the front who was taking orders wasn't wearing a mask or gloves. I will not return to this restaurant due to a racist treatment by its worker. I have been a regular and recently went back for my favorite, chicken with a couple of sides. After placing the order for lunch as usual, while I was waiting, the worker who took my order started addressing me to other workers and customers as "estate Chinito" (this "Chink") in my face. This woman even swapped my order with that of someone who came later than I did. Rice and beans tasted like it was a little under cooked (it was a little crunchy).
