This place is awesome! For starters it is open and popping until 2am, so there is always time to get grub. Also, you can choose if you want to eat in or just get on out of there! You go in and order at a line and then they call your name, like fast food. Only thing is, this place is nothing like a fast food joint, the quality here surpasses any fast food place all day. Stopped by to pick up dinner to go today. While waiting for my order in the seats inside a homeless man asked me for money, explained I do not keep cash on me. Then asked for a cigarette. A gentleman working there noticed this and when my order was ready he decided to walk me to the door and hand me the bag of food to go. Got home and missing both tacos I ordered, bummed. Called and spoke with Albert, nice guy, said to come back in and get my tacos next time I come by. My husband and I both could only eat about half of our bean burritos. I absolutely love this place and it's a Denver staple and has been for YEARS. If you're from Denver then you've been to Chubby's. The staff is friendly and welcoming and the food is great! Be prepared to wait in line for your meal as this place is always busy. There is a parking lot but it's small so there are times you may need to park down the street and walk but it's no big deal. I'd recommend their Beef & Bean Burrito Special and their Chili Cheese Fries. They've added more to their menu and everything is pretty darn good. One tip of advice: Always check your bag before you leave to make sure the order is right. A+ For sure! read more

Im.8 months pregnant and one of the ladies there started yelling at me because they didn't put enough chili on my food and the lady started cussing me out and said I had 2 pay 4 extra chili and there was hardly chili on there it was rude and embarrassing the way she was yelling at me. This place is PACKED at noon and so they have a good following, but overall its pretty disappointing. Its super cramped with virtually no seating except out side. You wait and wiat for your burger whcih is a super greasy mess. I confess its tasty, but if you ateat here a lot you'd need an extra gallbaldder and a grease mop. The green chili smothered fries are served on a paper plate, with another paper plate STAPLED on top creating a perilous venture -- and the suspense of "Will I make it to the car without green gunk squirting everywhere" scenario.Weird and sloppy. Go to a place that has three people in it and then you get on Yelp and complain about how much garbage you just ate. Only the "Original" Chubby's because this place has suffered several times from people trying to franchise this place, and none of them have been successful. They've been inconsistent, or they try to change things up by reducing portions and raising prices. This place and the original family who have managed it has survived over what seems like 20+ years because they do what they do, and that works. When I lived in San Jose, CA the only place I could think of or crave was the "Original Chubby's". I'd compare every place I've been to, to this place. I know, this isn't high quality, or authentic Mexican food, but this place is cheap Americanized Mexican food that might put you in the bathroom, yet its SOOO dammnn GOOD! I warn all my friends before taking them that they better have strong stomachs. I could almost eat here almost every other day (and have), but this is one of the only places that I actually MISS. My husband used to live in Denver and this was a must have when we visited. He said it wasn't ever great, but it was unique and had a way of making you come back for more. As always when we got dinner, the tiny little room was packed. There's no tables or a place to eat, just a live to order your food, a waiting area, and a line to pick up your food. But it's all part of the experience. I had a Mexican hamburger burrito, an original hamburger, smothered fries, and a giant thing of horchata. The Mexican hamburger was really good, basically a burrito filled with hamburger stuff and smothered in green chili sauce. The regular hamburger was pretty plain though and dry. The fries we're just frozen fries covered in green chili and cheese. The green chili is super spicy! It definitely burned my mouth off and I was glad I ordered a large horchata to take the edge off. I'm pretty sure I can say it was when they moved into their new building. Hint: When your kitchen is in the weeds, the manager usually steps up and gets dirty. Last night? I had previously visited the Chubby's on 13th and Santa Fe and was not impressed. My friends decided to bring me to the original location because they said it is delicious. They were right. They suggested I get whatever I want, just get it smothered in green chili sauce and cheese. Again, they were right!! My eyes were bigger than my stomach. I ended up ordering an egg and chorizo burrito and a small green chili cheese fries. The burrito came in a small paper bag. And the chili cheese fries came in 2 plates, ONE STAPLED ON TOP OF THE OTHER!!! Now you know a place is good when your food comes in 2 stapled plates. I mean why waste money on the frivolous stuff? Just use 2 paper plates. HAHA I should've only gotten the small green chili cheese fries. It was a lot of food. A lot of delicious food, mind you. I loved how spicy the green chili was. It great kick and a nice amount of flavor. And surprisingly, unlike some Mexican, it wasn't too salty. I think next time I will smother the burrito in green chili. It really is the best thing. I could just drink it. I will stick to coming to this location only in the future because they know how to do it right. They are also open late and very early for breakfast. My team and I transferred to a new area of Denver which happens to be down the road from Chubby's. We decided to get lunch to go and bring it back to work. My two co workers got the steak and green chili fries, one added over easy eggs. I ordered two chili rellenos with Christmas chili. The bite I had of the fries was really good, how you could eat an entire plate is beyond me though. The chili rellenos were good with the exception of the fake cheese they put on top. I ordered food from Chubbys on 38th and federal through Doordash for pickup. I come in and tell the young lady my name and order number. They did not have it in the system which I understand technology can be faulty. She blantly and rudely told listen your being assertive and I can be assertive to almost as if she was threatening me she slapped her hand on the counter rolled her eyes and walked away. They do a great job with social distancing as they only allow 5 people in the restaurant at a time. I got a special burrito with egg and bacon that comes with potatoes and it was so good. Had to get it without cheese but I'm sure it would have tasted even better with it. The green chile has a kick to it but gives the burrito extra flavor. The red salsa also has a kick to it but is not as tasty as the green chile. The only thing I wouldn't recommend are the chicken and beef tacos. Both meats were dry and lettuce, cheese and tortilla were similar to what you would get at Taco Bell. I would definitely come back for the breakfast burritos and would love to try the green chile fries, since I've heard good things! read more

I've been here twice after experiencing bad service the first time and hoping it wouldn't be the same the second. It was. Service here is incredibly slow, and the cashier we had was extremely impatient both times. After waiting 25 minutes to merely place an order, we were rushed through the order and watched as the next person had to wait another 10 minutes to order, even though we, the people immediately before, had been rushed as if the cashier cared about the line. Our food was mediocre both times. We've determined it's good 'drunk food,' but that's about it. Chubby's is lucky I've been going here for years and their food is so awesome! Cuz now their customer service sucks! If you go here expect a long wait. First time we went after they remodeled it took 45 min to get our food even though the food was waiting in the window for 30min of it. 6 months later we give them another chance, I called ahead and was placed on hold from the time I left my place 17 min till I was able to drive over, wait in in line to order and my phone is still on hold! This review is specifically for a late night option! That being said, it's pretty hard to beat this option. It's a little dive place with a parking lot but it's full of people in the middle of the night. I opted for the steak burrito and poppers for take out. The poppers were fine and nothing out of the ordinary. The steak burrito, on the other hand, was fantastic. Not only did it taste good but it was probably the spiciest burrito I'd ever have. The funny thing is that initially I was annoyed I didn't have hot sauce but, in the end, it didn't matter. The burrito was fantastic and uber spicy (and I like and can handle spicy) so I'd probably make this my top go-to option for late night grub! read more
