This place has been on our list to try out for quite some time, given the great reviews and I am SO incredibly disappointed after trying it tonight. We got two chicken schwarma wraps and an order of humus. The wraps had ZERO flavor and the chicken tasted dry and bland almost like canned chicken, the toppings inside were lacking and the tzaziki sauce they put in it had absolutely zero taste --- I can't make any sense of how a Mediterranean place that is seemingly authentic at first glance can be this awful. The ingredients taste great, but there was about 2 oz of chicken in their chicken shawarma The rest was just filler ingredients. They're spicy sauce tasted like watered down ketchup? Finally a falafel shop that stands up to what I used to get in the bay area. I love The Kebab Shop but this is the falafel I'm used to. Little pricey but good. Seriously, the falafel tastes FRESH. Place was absolutely fantastic. It's not aesthetic in the inside and has limited seating. The Pita bread, gyro meat, and quality ingredients makes this local "grab and go" favorite of mine. I had the lamb beef gyro on the Pits bread and was blown away. Pita is cut as a pocket so it holds everything in. Amazing quality and the ownership was super friendly. This is the real deal and lives up to its name. I have loved/savored/raved over each dish I try. Anything they suggest or ask if I want, I say yes because they know how to mix the right combination of flavor in sauce and dressings. He asked if it was our first time visiting and he then offered a generous sample of each of the meats. All were most and delicious. I chose the sampler platter because I wanted everything. I have had similar offerings from the kebab shop in SD and Luna grill, so I thought it was not a crazy departure. This thing was wet and sopping with a sour "yogurt" and "hot sauce". And this wasn't a "you don't know authentic" kinda moment. I've had cuisine and shawarma from authentic Middle East/Mediterranean places and the aforementioned. The lettuce and vegetables were tired with minimal chicken that appeared as though it was just reheated from yesterday's or the day before's spigot and ......it tasted like Taco/Dell. HOW? So excited when I saw this place was opening up in Oceanside. The Original Kebab is a welcome and much needed addition to the Oceanside food scene and fills a need for delicious, flavorful Mediterranean food! Trust me, there's already enough American, brewery, burger type joints in the near vicinity and this place fills a much needed gap. I've had the chicken shawarma wrap and the gyro, both excellent, healthy, and flavorful. The toppings (especially the pickled jalapeños/veggies) are plentiful and the sauces you can add to your wrap are also delicious! The owner doesn't skimp with the fillings and he's also very nice. 3 stars as the average of the two times I've gotten food here. First experience was 4 stars and second was 1 star. This place has the potential to be incredible and I was so excited to finally have a kebab place within walking distance. My first experience was a couple weeks ago. I picked up dinner to go and ordered the chicken shawarma plate and falafel. The chicken was juicy, the rice was fluffy and buttery, and the falafel was freshly made and had the perfect amount of crisp on the outside. My main criticism after my first experience was that the sauce that was all over my plate tasted a lot more like ranch dressing instead of tzatziki which was disappointing. There are plenty of other restaurants in Oceanside where you can get your ranch fix. I personally don't think this should be one of them. There is no option for a lighter dressing for your salad and they do not offer a tangy garlic sauce for your protein or tahini sauce for the falafel. Unfortunately my second experience was quite underwhelming. I picked up the same chicken shawarma plate on a weekday around 12:30p. The chicken was very dry and the rice was crunchy in some areas which makes me think I was served whatever was leftover from the night before considering I came in only 2 hours after they opened. Because of this I'm giving this place 3 stars with the hopes the owners see this review and consider making some adjustments. Please offer a lighter dressing for your salad and something other than the current ranch tasting sauce for the protein plates and falafel. I wanted to give an honest review. Don't eat here. The chicken pita was not good and the amount of meat in it was not worth $15. Probably the worst pita sandwich I ever had. The meat was dark and white meat, I think and the flavor was weird. Tourist trap for sure. To each his own, maybe there other options are better. My hubby got the chicken kabob plate, and he said it was OK aka he didn't like it, he's just the nicer one! I'm not sure what happened, but I ordered a family tray. They said they didn't have the kebab and I said a substitution for shwarma would be fine. They agreed. When I showed up they had made me four wraps instead of a daily tray. What the??? I didn't want to waste food so I accepted. In retrospect this was a big mistake as when I got home nobody wanted to eat wraps for dinner. My daughter took a few bites and gave me a dirty look. I ate one of them and really couldn't believe what was happening. Not only was I out $56 for a failed dinner that nobody would eat, the wrap was really not good. Very little meat, a ton of cabbage, lots of crunchy salad mix, and a white sauce that tasted like institutional ranch dressing. The bread was basically a flour tortilla and inside was all soggy. 1 star on everything. Three of the wraps went in the trash the next day. So disappointing. read more

The gyros had finely ground meat in them and it wasn't very good. But the most ridiculous part was the Baklava! We received four playing dice sized pieces of baklava for $3.00 each!! It was obvious they had taken a single serving piece of baklava and cut it into four pieces! So for about $50.00 we got two ground meat Gyros and four playing dice sized pieces of baklava! We went there today with our kids who were very hungry. We ordered the family combo for 3 people and when it arrived, the meat had a rotten smell to it. The tekka kebab was sticky and smelled really bad. The plates were dirty and the salad with our meal was not brought out until we had to ask for it.
