After a long drive home to/from Tahoe last weekend we decided to go to Mel's...we went super late, but our food and service was still great! Our server was very nice and all smiles! She was also very patient with us while we ordered, changed our order, asked questions which led to changing some things again! Pancakes are on point!!! Breakfast food all day every day!! Today we went for our first time to the Fairfield Mel's. Service was fabulous. The place was sparkling clean and had interesting decor, with historic photos of the area. We were seated immediately and given menus. Our drink orders were taken and drinks delivered swiftly. Our server was super friendly and checked in regularly to see how we were doing and if we needed anything else. Our food, a burger with bleu cheese and a bowl of chili with cheese and onions and cornbread, came out quickly. My husband said he was glad he only ordered the hamburger without sides because it was enough to fill him up. While our food was competently prepared, it was nothing special, and we're not sure we'd go there again. The bill was about $23.00 (over $27 with tip) for the burger, chili, and one soda, an amount which I thought was a bit much for what was served. read more

Sorry to say but the customer service is awful here. The food is ok at best. The waiter did not check up on us once and we had to keep waving him down for service. The manager argued with us when asked about a charge on our bill and expected us to know that certain items were additional charges when we were never told and it doesn't even say it on the menu. I'm sorry . The food was gross, unflavored and off-brand tasting. My waffle was hard to cut it, not like it was over cooked but like a cheap brand. Coffee was watered down and gross. Since when does kids drink (in a kids cup) not come w the kids meal? You're paying $8.99 for a kids sized meal w drink. Biscuits and gravy was nothing special. I was there last night April 26, 2019. I'm a person of color, with my lil niece who is also of color (it more obvious with her than me), and her mother. It was really like walking into the 1950s, no other people of color, everyone was staring at us and giving us bad looks including the staff. I called in and ordered a meal to go. When I got there, there was only two waitresses but the restaurant was not crowded. I stood there for a little bit waiting for one of them to assist me. Eventually a waitress came and I told her I had a to go order and payed for my food. (When I first walked in the restaurant, I saw that there was already a couple of to go bags on the counter by the kitchen). Instead of bringing my bag to me, The waitress did about 10 other things (getting refills, getting other customers stuff) I stood there for about 10 minutes waiting for my food. Both waitresses saw me waiting for my food and just ignored me. The waitress finally grabbed my bag and handed it to me. I don't understand why the waitress didn't just grab my meal right after I paid for it. Is there a rule that says to-go orders are supposed to grab their bags themselves? Was I supposed to magically know which bag was mine and grab it? As stated previously, while there was only two waitresses, the restaurant was not busy. There was no reason I had to wait 10+ minutes for the waitress to grab my food when it was already sitting on the counter. read more

I really disagree with the previous reviews. Maybe the new opening caused some of this? Don't know.. but we had a GREAT experience. Have been back for lunch and breakfast. The service was fast and very friendly. The food was excellent diner food. The burger in particular was one of the best I have had in a while. Decided to give this new joint a try. I don't know what took me so long! I ordered a Denver omelet and it was as good as any I've ever had. It was way too much to eat yet somehow I managed . The Mel's Potatoes were also excellent. My server, Desi, couldn't have been friendlier nor more attendant. I had to find Matt, the manager, so I could compliment him on his nice operation. A couple friends and I decided to try this Mel's. We waited about 20 min to get drinks and about another 30 min just for them to take our order and we had like 3 different waitresses they kept going back and forth not knowing who was going to take care of us. We were unsatisfied with our food but we were starving since we waited an hour for food. I would say service is 4/10 they were nice. The food was 5.5/10 . I ordered a Quesadilla and coffee through Door Dash. The order was delivered quickly. The bag was completely sealed so I had to cut it open and here is the kicker...they included a wrapped roll of toilet paper. Food 4 stars, Customer service 0. This is probably the 3rd time I've came to this location with terrible service. The FIRST time the manager, or lead whatever, the skinny young girl with really short hair, glasses possibly, stood next to our food when it was clearly ready to flirt with one of the employees for a good 10 mins. Literally we are sitting right there watching it all. The SECOND time, she took our order but I felt like she was rushing us & she clearly didn't look like she wanted to work that night. Which I understand, it's late but I already had an experience with her. Now our THIRD time was just 10 mins ago. The host gave us our drinks & that was it. There was probably 3 waitress working & again, the manager or lead was standing next to us having a convo with one of the employees kid. She might've been off the clock because it did look like she was ready to leave BUT you're still an employee & we're still customers that see that. Terrible customer experience. We probably waited 20 mins before we decided to leave because no one came to take our order. YES, they had about 3 waitresses but when they didn't have anything in their hand they still walked passed us. No acknowledgement. I will drive to Vacaville next time before I decide to go to the Fairfield's location. What an embarrassment read more

What an absolute Father's Day disaster, it was a toss up between which was worse the food or the service. I was craving chicken fried steak and eggs. The chicken fried steak was burnt and the gravy could have been used for wallpaper paste. The toast was not even the least bit toasted and this was after I sent it back. The bread was pure white with zero toast texture whatsoever. The service was equally bad. My wife never received salt and pepper for her fries even after she requested it. I never got my extra gravy even though I asked for it. In hindsight, after tasting the gravy that was a blessing. I never received an offer of a refill on my iced tea. My wife ordered hot tea but she had to remind the waitress that tea requires a teabag. After all of this, you know what's a fun filled ending? To get to chase down your server after 15 minutes to get your check. read more

My husband and I went to check out Mel's not long ago and were excited to try a new place in town. We were so disappointed with the experience that we had. The food was mediocre but it's diner food so that's to be expected. What wasn't expected it was finding a hair in my hamburger after I had almost eaten the whole thing. The people next to us complained to the waitress that their table was dirty, there was stuff stuck all over it, and then the people on the other side of us had lipstick on their water glass. Those hygiene issues that alone made us decide that we would not be coming back. read more

The last three times I went to Mel's they forgot an item from my take out order which I ordered for my family . I like the food but they need to make sure they give the food items I've paid for. Please double check to see that the order is completed before you bag it up for the customer. I now feel I need to check to see that my food is in my bag before leaving. Something to work on . Been to this Mela 2 times now. First time I had the Monte Cristo. The second time I had the Super Bird (forget the real name for there). Real turkey. Was fantastic but a little dry. I did leave the tomatoes off. If that is what gave the sandwich moist, well, IDK. But both sandwiches were great. Service was good. The place was clean both times I was there. Wouldn't be bad if I saw a few more smiles from the servers or the hostess. But I'm thinking the kids are running things now and that just isn't what they do. IDK. read more

This is by far the WORST Mel's I have ever been to. The food is terrible. Ordered a chicken club sandwich and thought it was a pressed meat salt patty. It didn't even come close to tasting like chicken. We also ordered the fish & chips - let me tell you go to your local supermarket and get some frozen Gorton's fish, it would be better. Don't bother ordering the chicken noodle soup, they gave us some strange and disgusting cream soup that was not edible with a biscuit nobody ordered. The only thing we received that was somewhat edible was a San Francisco Scramble - still over salty. read more

Great food, great service. I was undecided about what I wanted for dinner so I threw my two choices at our server, Jaime. Asked him to order for me. I received a large plate with an open-faced hot turkey sandwich with all the trimmings. Great favors, amble servings, fresh vegetables were on point. Took a couple minutes and chatted with Jaime. What a great young man, he enjoyed waiting on tables and it showed. We will be in town another week or so, so I asked him his hours. Hoping to see him again. We ordered the buffalo wings , onion rings, and gravy fries for appetizers and they came fast and hot. Our server Vanessa was attentive and friendly. My family ordered a range of foods. DO NOT EAT HERE! NOSE DIVE SINCE GRAND OPENING. I went into Mels Fairfield when it first opened and they had experienced servers from other Mels for the grand opening. It was great. I went in today the staff was horrible. My chefs salad had three waxy blobs of cheese. I asked my server what they were she said blue cheese. I said well this doesn't look like blue cheese crumbles. She picked up the blobs I had taken out and just started to walk away from my table. I said hold on, you can leave those her and may I speak with the manager. Again she said nothing and I said excuse me can I speak to the manager? She said she's right here. A woman named Carla was sitting at the counter & she said she was the manager and asked what's the problem? I asked, What is this? When I got the Cobb before it had blue cheese crumbles in it, not this, whatever it is. She said there are no cheese crumbles available now so we got block cheese and that's how is is off the block. The fact that there are blue cheese crumbles at Raleys one block down the street aside, I asked, couldn't it be chopped up into bite sized crumbles? and she actually said no. I said why are you saying cheese can't be cut with a knife? She said that how it is. I realized that like my server You-lissa, Carla the manager just didn't care and knew nothing about restaurant management. I did not give this place two stars Yelp did. I clicked on ONE STAR but it kept posting two. Do not eat at this Mels. Too bad that it's gone downhill. I used to love Mels' salad. read more

Absolutely terrible, wrecked a perfectly Good Friday night. Our waitress had short-term memory or regard, ordered a patty melt and they decided to make their own version with tomatoes, American cheese instead of Swiss and the meat was a 1/3 of the soggy rye bread. My wife's sandwich also had soggy bread, kids food (chicken fingers) we're boiling hot. I did raise my concerns to the waitress and she said she would "talk to the manager and we'll do something" they ended up taking $20 off which was nice, but the manager didn't bother to come out to solicit feedback to learn from their mistakes. read more
