I come to this location pretty often, as it's near my house. When compared to the one in Rosevillle, this one lacks. But it's not terrible to point where I'd drive an extra mile, or so I thought so. I dined here yesterday with family and friends and I almost immediately noticed how rude the waitress was. I'm not to call out and immediately point out people... but we all felt uncomfortable and targeted. Basically all the other people in the Mel's were white, expect for us and they served us in different cups and didn't check on our table like everyone else. They forgot some of our food as well. And when we asked for a takeout box, the waitress rolled her eyes. And I'm not saying they were racist... but when I dine here with white friends I get treated better.... And the white people around us appeared to be treated better as well. read more

Ordered takeout, only got half my order. Called when I realized my husband meal was missing and got the rudest, non-caring manager who said there was nothing he could do and insisted they only follow the tag on the order... Despite me telling him the missing items were on the tag he still refused to even look up the order! I paid good money for food I never got. After a long day! Well, I decided to dine at Mels late night. I had the best meal and yummy desert of course! The food was affordable and the pancakes are my favorite. My server, Amanda made me feel so welcomed! She went above and beyond. She was so amazing after a rough day, I'm glad someone like her was my waitress. My in-laws love coming to this place ever time they visit, but I just haven't yet found what food item is really good at Mel's. I'm not blown away by their food and I like to frequent local restaurants in my area. Yesterday, I had their California eggs benedict. The presentation of it looked pretty sad. Wished I took a picture. It was really flat looking and not really appealing though it tasted okay doused in hollandaise sauce. You could tell the avocados were nearing the end of life underneath my eggs. At $13, we shouldn't see blackness on the avocado pieces. I've had a few sandwiches and salads in the past that were okay. I like the atmosphere. Service is good and fast. I'll give them another try, maybe a hamburger. read more

My fav hangout spot!! I come here all the time with friends at random hours and we always have a good time! I always get the chicken strips with fries and ask for extra ranch, and they always bring out 3-5 cups of it ;) Only 4 stars because occasionally there will be a rude waiter but most are great! read more

Mel's Diner was the after party food spot after the shenanigans from a birthday celebration at Boxing Donkey. The place has a 50's decor which is pretty cool but the younger people would have to google that era now. We were greeted and seated with no problems even though the place was a little busy. I ordered the Wolfman Jack breakfast special. * Side Note( Wolfman jack used to host a show called midnight special this was before Friday night videos- google it) ok end of side note* The service was fast and my food was hot. My eggs were not overcooked and brown. The pancakes were fluffy. I must say the food was pretty good. I am a huge IHOP fan so this is a step below IHOP but a Major step above Denny's or Waffle House. We pumped plenty of quarters on our table mini jukebox to listen to some blasts from the past. Overall good food at a decent price but hey you really can't mess up breakfast food. read more

Some breakfast items MAY be safe. Burger may be safe. You can't experiment here - you need to already know what is safe to order either from experience or friends telling you. Went to Mel's last Tuesday night, had steak and eggs and fried country potatoes. Amy P. was my waitress, the service was nice, coffee was old, had a freshly made pot of coffee in a pot that wasn't washed out or had old cover in it. Used the old creamer test to see if it was new coffee or old. It failed the test, still old coffee. Had a vanilla milkshake, Amy did an excellent job. The steak was made in perfection, eggs were over hard, country potatoes were fried and almost perfect. Almost except for the hair in my fried country potatoes, that didn't come from my waitress, had to come from the kitchen. Amy was very gracious and took off the steak and eggs. read more

What you see is what you get. This is a 24 hour diner....much like a Denny's but with 50's decor. It's ok food-can you really mess up breakfast? I had the San Fran scramble that wasn't anything impressive but my wife's french toast was fantastic. The service was ok. The hostess' were awful though. Erica and her friend spent the hour that I was there (and seated next to their stand) talking about guys, hookups, and dates. I understand that they are probably freshly 18 but it wasn't appropriate conversation for my children to overhear. Overall, ok food and ok service. read more

Wonderful service, good food huge quantity. The ribeye steak was cooked perfectly to order and only $20. The San Francisco Hamburger on sourdough was likewise cooked to order. The chicken noodle soup is unique in my experience. Never tasted its like and enjoyed it more than any other. We were at the Staybridge Hotel which is also in the Blue Oaks Town Center and this became our home meal center. This was my Moms favorite breakfast joint. She lived right up the street from this Mel's and she felt so lucky to have such a delicious always good anytime of the day or night restaurant so close by. She would always have me pick up food from here and man she was right! Everything was fresh, hot and everything you expected and more. My husband, daughter, granddaughter and myself visited your restaurant for lunch. We were greeted by a male host who was very friendly and greeted as soon as we entered the restaurant. Our waitress Jessica was very professional and attentive during our entire meal. We ordered pancakes and bacon for our granddaughter which she loved. My daughter had the BLTA, my husband the patty melt and I had the best and most delicious turkey club sandwich I have ever had. The turkey was quite moist and all meals were of generous size. I have been to this location ten plus times and every single time I see the same 3 servers. There was a new item on the menu so I asked about it and she responded with "I don't know what's in that". Not really an acceptable answer from a server, it's on your menu, you should know... Always have to ask for refills because we see them all of 4 times. I have been to a few Mel's diners over the years, generally because they are open 24 hours a day and we needed a place to rest our weary bones and eat off the captain and cokes :-) so I would say this restaurant is exactly what you'd think, diner food. Nothing super fancy or great, true to what it is. I'm never very disappointed, but I eat at diners with the thought that the food is not high quality or fancy, so I don't have super high expectations. Sometimes you just need a big greasy burger with french fries. Normally I do bacon cheeseburgers, but this time I decided to go for the chicken strip basket. I was pretty disappointed that they only give you 3 chicken strips for 10 bucks , I also found that the chicken strips were very Elementary School.. Perfectly flat and uniform, they definitely do not batter the chicken strips themselves. I certainly respect diners that put in the little bits of extra effort when possible. Basic previously frozen fries, and a little cup of warm coleslaw. Will I be back? Likely.. But only if there's no other options. read more

Ordered a meal today from Mels. I got the Chicken & Waffles and the Gravy Fries. Was really disappointed with the Fries. They really over-drenched the gravy to the point I had to throw away half of the fries. Was very shocked. The chicken was good but my waffles were also cold, another turnoff. I wish they had a Mel's Diner in the bay area! This place is really good and its open 24 hrs. Not only is the food good but the service is good as well. I came here for breakfast one morning and ordered strawberry waffles. I thought I would just be getting waffles with strawberries on top, to my surprise it came with a side of country potatoes. Went in tonight with a party of four at about 8pm. They sat us in the booth right by the front, and then I guess forgot about us. Thirty minutes went by, the party of five that came in after us, that they sat right across from us, got their drinks, placed their orders and got served.
