I have stayed at Quail Cove Lodge several times and I always enjoy the ambiance and serenity of the cabins there. The drive around the lake on the North Shore is beautiful, and the Innkeepers are very welcoming. They are very knowledgeable about the area and can suggest some great restaurants as well as local activities and good hikes close by. DO NOT STAY HERE! Our visit was in the late 2017. DO NOT STAY HERE! This tiny and I mean tiny cabin, 150 Sq Ft. is cramped, old and incredibly drafty and has not been remodeled for decades. The appliances and everything in the place are over 30 years old. Oh they do have a horrible $20 microwave that is a piece of junk! The tiny 27 inch 10 year old flat screen TV with a bent stand and the falling apart Satellite Box with a taped together remote were the worst! Dishes, glasses and utensils were dirty, cheap and bent. We stayed there for a few days, wanted to leave after the first night, what a mistake and never again!!!! The gas heater, located by the front door was not enough for this TINY cabin as the bedroom was incredibly cold and drafty the entire stay day and night. DO NOT STAY HERE!!! The owners looked like they retired here and have no idea how to manage a rental property nor how to treat paying customers. They are rude, disrespectful, overbearing, and don't make a sound or go in and out they are always watching!!!! AND NO VISITORS!!!!! This is like a bad movie..... They acted like they were doing us a favor letting us pay rent and freeze to death in this no frills cabin. No amenities and the grounds looked like a frozen tundra!!! We we're planning to tent camp at the Serrano campground for the weekend but with 25deg temps forecasted at night we wimped out. So I searched Yelp, found Quail Cove and was able to book a last minute reservation at QC (thank you Grace.) This place is legit. Everything the previous reviewers have noted is spot on. The smiles on my wife and daughter's faces when they entered cabin 3 was priceless. We will be returning for certain. read more

This is our 2nd time at Quail Cove and while we love the cabins, hence the reason we came back. On our way home, I get a call from the owner that we put a hole in the coffee table - the hole was there when we arrived. When I tried to explain that to the owner he got nasty and said he knew we did it and we could continue to go back and forth about it but he knew we did it. It really put a damper on the fun couple of days that we had there. Super disappointed with the phone call and when I got home, I checked my credit card and was charged $50. We were looking forward to booking again but after the call and the credit card charge, we will find a new place to stay. read more

Quail Cove Cabins far exceeded our expectations. The owners are on property doing a fantastic job. We rented three cabins and they were freshly renovated with new fixtures, comfy furnishings and everything you need in the very nice kitchens. The cabins were sparkling clean and fresh. We liked the cabins so much we have already booked multiple units for two more family trips. The cabins are adjacent to the lake in Fawnskin, and just a short drive to all the things that Big Bear has to offer. You will love this place. read more

What a great experience! The cabins are well kept, in a great location, and exactly what I was looking for to get away for a romantic weekend with my wife and no kids :) We rented cabin #2 and loved it! Great location, cozy decor, perfect romantic accommodations for 2. Fireplace in the bedroom! Kitchen well stocked, although I did being my favorite pan to make omelette's in (personal preference, not required). They have salt and pepper, but bring your own spices and such. Note: no napkins or paper towels provided, bring paper items. The bathroom and shower were great. Awesome water pressure, plenty of hot water. Here's something that could be added though...the bathroom is COLD in the mornings. It's far enough removed from the main room that heat doesn't really go in there. A space heater or one of those overhead heat lamps would be a very welcome addition to the bathroom. All in all, we were extremely pleased with our stay and will gladly return again! We loved Quail Cove Lodge!!! Perfect for our family of four. Cabin #5 was just the right cozy size for us. SUPER clean and tidy, everything you could possibly need in the kitchen and nice comfy beds! Plenty right on the grounds for the kids to do and very close to all other Big Bear attractions. The owners were the best part. They were so welcoming and helpful. They offered to make a fire for us, had buckets of toys for the kids and basically treat their guests like family. EXCELLENT VALUE! Will be going back soon!!! read more

My family and I just stayed here to celebrate my 50th birthday. What a great time we had! The cabins are clean and have everything you need. The grounds are immaculate and I love the location. Not on a major highway. We stayed in cabin 1 which has a back door to a patio where we enjoyed a view of the lake. Definitely coming back here. Also love that they are dog friendly. read more

Run WHILE YOU CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First off i thought What a deal!!! $ 125 per night. Was not worth the money!!!! I arrived at the Big Bear Cool Cabin's office at approx 11am yesterday. They didn't even know they had a reservation for me! They said to come back at 3pm and the cabin would be cleaned and ready. So @ 3pm i arrived back at the office in order to get my key. They said they still haven't cleaned the room! Her excuse was that the house keeper grabbed the wrong key so she wasn't able to clean it. The office is 10min from the cabin and i last spoke with them at 11am......So they are pretty much saying they have not done a thing since we spoke in the morning FOUR HOURS AGO!! She tells us the cleaners should be done by the time we get there... NOPE!!! Took an additional forty five minutes to clean it!! So my wife and i sat in our vehicle waiting. Very Romantic. Once we got inside the cabin we realized what we got ourselves into. Most things were in major disrepair blinds with holes in them so anyone can peer in on you, broken furniture, burned out bulbs, etc. We were apprehensive about sleeping in the beds just based on the general state of the place (Gross). So we took our blankets and huddled on the floor next to the fireplace for what was the worst night of sleep since food poisoning. The ants in the kitchen were a nice touch as well. Enough ranting. Long story short. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere or prepare to be disappointed. I would be embarrassed to be associated with the people working at the big bear cool cabins office. We stayed at Quail Cove Lodge last weekend, and it was wonderful! We were in Cabin #5, and it was very clean and cozy. They supply everything you need... Dishes, pots and pans, extra blankets, toiletries, etc... Just bring your own food. The staff (owners?) are very kind and accommodating, and every time we saw them they said hello and asked if we needed anything. They sell firewood in the office for the fireplaces, which is super helpful. And each cabin has a BBQ in the yard. We loved BBQing the first night we were there so much that we decided to forego going out to a restaurant the second night and stayed home to BBQ again. Our dog loved it here too! Yes, the lake has receded and the creek behind the property is dry now, but we enjoyed walking down the sandy creek bed every day to where the lake starts and letting our dog splash in the water (it was still way too cold for us to enjoy it). It was great being on the quieter side of the lake. It's still just a few minutes drive from all the action in Big Bear, but so secluded and peaceful. There are some cool trails nearby, also just a few minutes drive from the property. We will return here for sure... Hoping to make it a new annual family retreat destination! read more

It's been 2 1/2 years since my relatives last stayed at Quail Cove Lodge while visiting us here in Fawnskin. They were so happy I booked cabins for them here again last month. They were so thankful they were able to bring their pet and that there are special areas for the dogs to go potty so they didn't have to worry about where they stepped as they walked around the property. (I don't understand why any reviewer would have a problem with this.) We rented 2 cabins this time and frankly I'm glad the owners have rules about how many people stay in a unit. It keeps the cabins from being destroyed by people trying to break the occupancy rules. My family love how nice and peaceful the lodge is. If you're looking for a pet friendly lodge with wonderful, friendly owners I would suggest this lodge. read more

Great place!!!! The family and I got to Big Bear yesterday around 8am. We wanted to check out the snow and just have a site seeing type of day. Initially we weren't planning on staying the night. After breakfast we went on a drive around the lake and came across Quail Cove lodge. The cabins looked brand new and the place looked so inviting. We stopped to get some info for a future stay but instantly fell in love. The owners were very nice, the cabin we stayed in was very clean and well furnished. The prices were a deal and we will definitly come back!!! Very relaxing and with out a doubt a 5 star worthy lodge!! read more

This was the first time I stayed at Quail Cove. My friend and I were looking to stay in Big Bear and we were extremely pleased and satisfied with our stay. We stayed in Cabin #4 which was spotless, fully stocked with items needed to cook (pots, pans, etc) as well as other forgotten amenities like you would find in a hotel. I can't recommend this place highly enough and plan on staying here again next time I'm in Big Bear. Thanks again! read more

I rented a one bed room cabin for my boyfriends birthday. It is called a "lakeside lodge". In the description it say you can fish right off the back of the cabin and I purposely booked the one cabin that pictures show backing up to the water. Upon arrival the lake was dry and there was a very ugly view of the dried up mud hole of the lake. Upon inquiring about it I was told it was posted on THEIR website, so if you book through a 3rd party you miss it. So when I looked to verify, the description and pictures show and talk about the lake being right off the cabin despite it being dry for over a year and a small caption in a completely different area than the cabin description it says the CREEK is dry. During check in we were also told that they would be happy to make us a bon fire in the evening, but when we asked it was made very clear that "they weren't supposed to do this", and made it seem like a huge inconvenience. It is also advertised as pet friendly, however pets are not allowed on grassed areas even if you clean up after them, they are not allowed on furniture, and they can not be left unattended in the cabins even if they are well behaved or kenneled. We planned on going to Oktoberfest, but had to change our plans completely. So this means no bringing your dog and going skiing, or shopping, or out to dinner with out leaving someone home with the dog. Finally, and probably the biggest displeaser NO GUESTS ARE ALLOWED. My boyfriend and I both travel for work and are currently doing long distance with each other and our family's. So we planned this weekend to be an hour away from his family so they could come visit. We made plans to have a cook out with his sister and niece Saturday evening. That night around 930 my boyfriend and I ran into the house for a minute and left his sister and Niece to watch the fire. The couple who owns the property asked if that was me. My boyfriends sister told him that I went inside so she proceeded to tell them they were not welcome to stay the night. That I had only paid for 2 people. First of all, seriously, 4 adults in one queen bed, second of all if there was suspicion of more than allowed people over night in the cabin it should have been brought up to the person who paid for it. When I told her at check out that I didn't appreciate that and wish she would have spoke with me she said she could have evicted me or charged me and she was trying to be nice by not doing that. I explained the contract read that there was no more than 2 occupancy and if more than 2 stay over night then we could be charged. I also said we have been very respectful of ALL their rules and we trying to have quiet birthday cookout that they were only here for the evening. She, however said we had not followed all the rules that we were not even allowed to have guests for over 1HOUR and they had been there since 2pm and we did not ask for permission. So I explained we were not even back from our hike until 4pm and they did not get there until several hours after and that I should not have to ask permission to cook dinner for 2 people that our visiting to out VACATION rental. To which her response was this is not the holiday inn, you can not just invite all your friends to stay here(2 adults that were there from 530-1030), and this may be a vacation rental to you, but not to everyone. The husband and wife who own the property live on it and run it. The admitted in previous conversation that it was a little to much for them. With the wife's comment that it may be a vacation to us, but not to everyone just shows that everyone is an inconvienece to them on their property and since they are not on vacation they have expectations that it should be quiet at 8pm and no guests allowed (even just for dinner). I will NEVER stay here again. I would not recommend it to anyone. It is not the nice, pet friendly, vacation rental with a view you think it will be! read more

I agree with you Whitney k..it's not that friendly how it seems.i had such a bad experience with the owners..they r so rude and racist..I was told that thy don't allow pets..but infect it's clearly written pets allowed..secondly my families came to visit us for dinner as soon as thy so them thy came nocking on door..oh they have to leave right now she was acting so weird like something was on her..I told her that thy here just for dinner and they will leave..but she keep on saying thy have to leave not 5min not 10min but right now...it was my daughter who is 5yrs old wanted to see snow..so we took her but had such a horrible day with these heartless owners..and also I had 13month baby..that nite around 9 we all had to leave even though we paid for cabin..just because the way they were acting and telling my families to leave right now..we left that nite gave the key back to them..it was so cold I had my baby..in that Cold nite we had to find some other place..at last we found one place by the time it was 12.i would say this is the worst place to come and I will never ever come here..this people is not friendly or kind and they are also racist..we had to leave because they insulted my families and also threaten us if thy don't leave now we have to leave too..this is the most hopeless place I ever went.. read more
