So fortunate to be a guest at the Deck House which Is just up the driveway from this amazing place. Tightly tucked in the cliff above the Samish Bay. This romantic restaurant features amazingly fresh seafood. Laurel was our server and was outstanding. I have the seafood salad with crab & pawns. At $32 I'd liked a bit more crab. It came with a spicy peanut oil dressing and I opted for the vinaigrette dressing which was nice and light. Scott had the filet and lobster. Again small portions for the price but delicious. It can be a trek to get here, and the road winds around corners and edges, and parking is scant. However, this restaurant is worth the effort and care. The restaurant has a gorgeous view, especially at sunset, looking out over mature trees and the beautiful water of Samish Bay. Breathtaking! Service is friendly, polite, and professional. Not fussy but also helps elevate the experience. Food is super fresh and local. Well prepared, with a bit of a flourish. Pacific Northwest fare. Delicious desserts too. Prices are in line with fine dining. Pro tip: the famous Taylor Shellfish shop and restaurant (their HQ) is right on the water below this cliff hanging restaurant. The Oyster Bar is one of our go-to's for special occasions, for good reason. The food is elegant, delicious, and Northwest-inspired. Service is absolutely top notch and the view of the bay is epic! This trip was for our 15th anniversary. We started with a mushroom tart, so buttery and flaky it could barely contain the delicate mushroom filling. For entrees, I had a huge salad with Dungeness crab, prawns, mango, avocados, egg...so fresh and tasty!! The hub had a 3 oz filet lignin with prawns, perched atop garlic mashed potatoes with a side of sautéed fresh veggies. We shared a piece of key lime cheesecake for dessert. It has been 15 years or so since our last visit to the Oyster Bar. Our first visit was the best food we had ever experienced in Washington State, so when my spouse suggested a very belated return for her birthday today, we were both excited. Lunch held nothing but delight for us, with beautiful outdoor seating in this time of worldwide plague and very great attention to sanitation, so we were instantly comfortable. We enjoyed very fairly priced glasses of wine to start, followed by an app course of Summer Asparagus soup and Crab Brûlée with button mushrooms. Entrees to follow were crab cakes and Salmon Pastrami. Every item was bursting with unique flavor from app to entree to the smashed fingerling potatoes. I can't decide if THIS was our best meal to date or our old visit a decade and a half ago. Our server, hidden behind her mask,was outstanding and attentive. All in all, this was a fine birthday celebration right down to the dab of whipped cream and a raspberry with candle the server proffered when she learned we were celebrating. I had a hard time deciding between 3 stars and 4. While the view is fantastic, the food is mediocre at best. My gfs and I ordered two different types of oysters, baked oysters, halibut fish and chips, and calamari. Along with rosé and white wine. Oysters were fresh and good as expected since they're along the coast of the best oyster farms. Baked oysters were probably my favorite of the three hot plates we ordered. The halibut was meaty but the batter separated from the fish and it was a bit soggy for my liking. The calamari was bland and ordinary. I would venture to come here again but only for the view. Had lunch on a Friday with a party of six. Service and food were excellent overall. The view is amazing. Oyster Bar is far and away the best place for a special meal in the Bellingham area. Some notes: -We called ahead, then hit a big construction delay on the way and called again. They held our table for us. -The servers are highly experienced and professional. Servers of this caliber are extremely rare around here... anyone serving at or managing a Bellingham restaurant should come to the Oyster Bar and see how it is done. -The standard house salad was opulent and delicious. Huge chunks of bleu cheese and sliced firm, ripe grapes. -It's expensive. -It's not faced paced. Not slow either.... leisurely. -The staff are very friendly and welcoming. -It's a place for grownups, not kids (and I have a 10 year old who I enjoy taking to restaurants). The Oyster Bar is located at the southern end of Chuckanut Drive. The view of Samish Bay and the San Juan Islands to the West is arguably the best there is. The staff is always casual, personable and accommodating of special requests. Putting these together gives you a dining experience that is incomparable. For the most part, the food meets the same standard. The baked oyster appetizer was delicious. I enjoyed the lobster bisque but my partner thought it was too strong of a tomato base. The mushroom soup was good but could have had a few actual mushrooms. The salad was wonderful with the vinaigrette dressing. The surprise was a palate clearing pear sorbet in wine. We could have had a few of those. The seafood Bouillabaisse was rather bland. There was plenty of seafood but the liquid had little taste. I added a lot of pepper. Our neighbors at the next table had the same opinion. Our neighbor had the New Zealand venison and thought it was the best red meat dish he had ever tasted. Our wines, glasses of Chardonnay and Riesling were excellent. Desert. The Chocolate Truffle cake with raspberry sauce was great. The bourbon coffee creme brulee was so-so. There was no taste of bourbon and the coffee flavor was in a thin layer at the bottom. There is no doubt that we will return. The experience was two hours of relaxing pleasure. I wish for more consistently excellent food instead of some that I rate as not bad to good. A previous visit was more impressive overall. read more

So visiting the Pacific Northwest I was excited to try some local flair and flavor. This place showed great potential. The greeting at the door was tepid, due to our party not having a reservation, we got there at 5 and were told we needed to be done by 7:30 to be seated. She should really relax and not be uptight, we came for dinner not a stern look. We stated we would comply with that and were seated. We had a fantastic view of the bay and a window table. The bread was great and the butter unsalted so .... the waitress was great. She provided recommendations and was attentive. Oysters , seafood stew , and halibut. Three persons in the party and all thought the food lacked flavor, prepared well, tender ,moist, appealing look. But no real pop or distinctive flavor of what you would expect for $40-50 per plate in all three meals. So a little disappointing as we were wanting and paid for a seafood meal on the coast overlooking the oyster beds in the bay. Probably not returning. read more

This is an unassuming spot at the bottom of the Oyster Dome hike, and while it is totally ok to walk into Taylor Shellfish in hiking gear, we were out of place! while we were welcomed, everyone else there was dressed up (at around lunch). But I have to say this meal was FANTASTIC and I wish it was closer to Seattle. They had a great selection of oysters which we tried. Their chowder had smoked halibut in it and was somehow so light (!!) and delightful and I have not tasted anything like it. It was so so good and I can't wait to go back! I am a shrimp fanatic so I order shrimp of course, it is by far the best shrimp I've had yet. Along with the amazing food, this place also has a gorgeous view on the water to gaze at while eating. Came here to celebrate a special anniversary because it came highly recommended and they had outdoor seating, which was a must in light of current events. Everything was superb. The food was top notch and a great value in my opinion. We came to celebrate and we had oysters on the half shell, a mushroom tart (which was to die for) as an appetizer and then we both ordered the ling cod special. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The restaurant is also recognized by Wine Spectator for their extensive wine list and rightfully so. They have a 30+ page wine list that has a little something for everyone at all price ranges. What a great night! Thank you to the restaurant for providing a venue for a wonderful evening. The view is spectacular and the venue is nice as well is the service however the food was poor. The Salmon Chowder was more like Salmon Soup and everyone in my party of 9 were disappointed with it. My crab cakes as seen in my picture were tiny, not made fresh and were basically bland and dry. I'm sure they were pre packed frozen medallions for xyz restaurant supply. Popped in for dinner on a Wednesday evening. This restaurant is nothing like the mental image I get when I think "Oyster Bar." Had I not had advance warning, I'd think it was a dive. This place is anything but! It's the kind of place you bring your significant other for a special occasion. It works well without that special occasion too though! The restaurant is small and cozy as the sparse parking indicates. Take that as a good sign. The tables are all set to take advantage of the spectacular views of Bellingham Bay. I should have been chatting with my wife throughout the dinner, but we were both just enjoying looking out the windows. Amazing. It must only get better when the sun is low on the horizon too! Tried a couple of the oysters. Fresh. Delicious. Would do it again. I had a problem with the menu. I wanted to order everything. My wife opted for the Filet Mignon. Perfectly cooked. Nicely seasoned. Exceptional presentation. I went for the Copper River Salmon. Perfectly cooked, exceptional presentation. I wish I had a time machine to go back and eat it again. Every night. Seriously. Key Lime Pie for desert. Delicious. Friendly staff. Knowledgeable & courteous. The prices aren't on the cheaper end. However, I believe our meal was worth every penny. I returned for lunch, and had more raw oysters, which were amazing. I ordered the Cedar-Roasted Salmon, which was the most expensive menu item. It was supposed to be served with "seared" local oyster mushrooms, sorrel puree, balsamic syrup and pickled blueberries. It was served with green beans (perfectly cooked) and almost raw (whole) brussel sprouts (very difficult to cut and chew through) and oyster mushrooms that seemed rehydrated, rather than fresh. The oyster mushrooms were as rubbery and chewy as anything I've ever eaten. There was zero sear on the mushrooms. The sauces were delicious. The sweet potato fries were a weird addition to the lunch (seems like they'd go well with burgers) but they were crispy and tasty. Sadly, the salmon was overcooked. But the view was perfect. Wonderful first experience here! Tristan was a charming and efficient waitress and the food was amazing! Calamari appetizer was tender with a saffron aioli that complimented well. Cioppino was also made with saffron broth instead of the usual heavy tomato bisque which allowed the flavor of the seafood to shine. Asparagus soup flavor (and color) was so vibrant! Yes, it's a little pricey, but great food and the gorgeous view of Samish Bay makes it worth it. read more

So often places with this kind of view or ambiance leave it all at that and the food tends to be lack luster, but not at The Oyster Bar. Everything was delicious and perfectly timed.
