A few weeks back I backed into a pole despite all the technological assists that most modern cars have. I went to four different places and The Paint Guy had the lowest estimate of all three. The cost wasn't just monetary-one of the body shops didn't do estimates with pictures which obviously was time-consuming. The Paint Guys not only let me text them a photo but they also gave me the fastest turn around time. Moreover, they worked around my schedule-all of the other places required me to drop off my car for a minimum of a week, but to expect two weeks. The Paint Guy ordered a replacement, it took a day. I brought my car in the next day where they ensured the replacement was the right fit, matched up the color. Since I needed my car the next morning, I brought it in at noon and by 3:30 that same day my car was ready, everything matched and got to drive off that day. read more

I'm so uncomfortable leaving poor reviews that it's taken me a couple of weeks to write this one. But if I don't I won't be able to help prevent someone else from having a poor experience like I had. The work I had done was to remove and install a new rear bumper entirely. Before I decided to award The Paint Guy (PG) with the job, I procured 3 different mechanic shop quotes. PG was the second cheapest quote by only $50 and because the gentlemen (Josh) I dealt with at the time was reassuring I decided to go with them. After the third day on the job, I got a voicemail from Josh saying that he would need another $200 to finish the job because he forgot to include a part. To my dismay I was disappointed b/c I had what I thought were 3 complete quotes to get the job done and tried to go with the one in my budget. I would've preferred to go with the now cheapest quote ($250 less from another mechanic). I'm really bad about understanding car stuff so I had my boyfriend call to ask Josh about it since he used to work on cars as a kid when he was young. We found out that Josh forgot to include a component that was part of the bumper. We understand that scope creep/quotes can go up due to unforeseen conditions, but this wasn't the case. It is a component that is visibly part of the top of the bumper and a component that I specifically called out during his estimate analysis, which he said he had covered only to now find out he was mistaken. My boyfriend told him that he was chosen b/c of his competitive price, but would have elected to go with our other cheaper quote. Josh said, "sorry it is what it is and I'm not going to cover that." Josh held to the idea that what he provided was an estimate and because it's an estimate things like this get missed. Since when are customers supposed to have more experience than the professional about providing an estimate for a full scope of work, especially on items that are visible? After voicing this to Josh he wasn't having it so we told him to just finish the job for what he estimated (with the missing component). My boyfriend even told Josh that he used to work at a mechanic shop and if components that were visible and pointed out by the customer were not included in the estimate, then the shop would consume that cost since it was their fault. This would end up showing poorly on a mechanics performance review. What did Josh say? "You haven't worked for a mechanic. Oh yea, what's the name of it?" When he told him he still didn't believe him. Either way should a business be talking to a customer that's paying $1k for a job like this and accuse them of lying? Of course not, so instead of arguing we just asked Josh to finish the job for the components he included. This past week I took my vehicle in for some maintenance and the mechanic there asked me if I had been in an accident. I said no, but I did have some work done. To my surprise the mechanic said, "Well who ever installed your bumper forgot to install a lot of clips. The bumper could easily fall off with enough wind resistance." This is what pushed me most to now write this review because enough was enough. I'm sure PG will see this review and give their compelling rebuttal and if you choose to believe it and still have work done here I hope you have a better experience than I did. If they're competitive in pricing I hope you take into consideration that they may be missing visible scope of work and not honor that. Moreover, it might not even be installed correctly as another mechanic pointed out to me later during a maintenance job. read more

I recommend Duane at The Paint Guy in north Austin if you have minor bumper work repair to be done. It is a small independent shop, adjacent to a pawn shop so look for that or you can miss the place it is small! He quoted me a fair price, had the work done on time. Particularly if you have a vehicle that has plastic bumpers and there is damage, but the whole bumper is still good. He can pull/straighten it out and match the paint for a cost that is less than your insurance deductible! You will need to arrange transportation to drop your car off and pickup later. I didn't give him 5 stars because he was a bit sloppy with the paint- I could see the tape marks after he was done, he got paint on some areas near my back bumper that should not have been painted, like the hitch. But overall a minor thing. He completely got the dent out- you can't even tell it was damaged. If you have a very expensive car or collectible, you might want to take body repairs to a more high end place. But for the rest of us, removing those dents and scratches that are minor but highly visible (and yes embarrassing! I hated to have to explain every time I hit a pole backing up going like 2 miles an hour, I don't know why it left such a large dent! ), The Paint Guy is your guy! read more

Quality Honest Work, I was backed into at a pluckers parking lot, Josh made my experience dealing with insurance a easier process, pricing was great, dealing with statefarm was a pain in the ass to get parts and the paint color listed on my vehicle was incorrect, Josh went above and beyond to insure the color matched correctly and repainted the bumper a few times to get the correct color. My low-mileage 2016 white Prius got ugly yellow paint and scratches on the front bumper after I drove into a no-parking curb. I did not want to use insurance and have my rates go up. So I found The Paint Guy in north Austin, who gave me a reasonable bid after he saw one photo. The shop was operating during the pandemic and the workers kept a safe distance. I left the car with them for 3 hours while I walked through the beautiful, nearby Great Hills Park. When I came to ransom the car back, I was relieved to see it all done with a perfect-match, sparkly finish that looked like the car was new. They had also cleaned up a few other small problems on the side-view mirrors. I was told at the last minute that only cash was accepted, but I got a receipt and my husband will likely return to get the paint touched up on his Honda Fit. read more

Josh gave us a very fair deal on painting my son's bumper he received for Christmas. I was a little nervous at first as there is a sign at the front door that tells you to go to the back of the building because that's where they are usually hanging out. This company takes longer (twice as long in my case) then real reputable shops, does poor quality work, and is rude when dealing with customers. Even if you are quoted a cheaper price stay away, as it will cost you substantially more in the end with time, added costs and stress. read more
