I was up in Fairfield so decided to do a quick search to see where I could get a birthday cake for the hubby. And stumbled upon this place. Really cute market that has a really good bakery! I walked in and asked the staff, of the cakes that were available, which was their favourite... their response was the chocolate gauche cake and the carrot cake. And since I'm a sucker, I decided to get both - not two whole cakes of course. I had gotten the chocolate gauche as a full cake (since hubby loves chocolate) but also gotten a slice of the carrot cake. And boy, the carrot cake was the winner! It was light and it had nuts, and so yummy! Definitely would go back for the whole cake next time! Don't get me wrong, the chocolate gauche was really good too, but if we both had to choose one, we would go with the carrot. The chocolate gauche was rich, yet moist and not dense. When you eat the first piece, it tastes so good that you want a second one, but then you realize your eyes was bigger than your stomach since the cake is pretty rich! I've had the coconut cake that everyone raves about at various gatherings and didn't love it as I'm not a big coconut fan. I went in to try other desserts and have found ones that I really love. The nutella cake and chocolate peanut butter cupcakes. The chocolate chip cookies were so buttery and tasted so fresh. My favorite place for prepared food and baked goods. Highly recommend the salmon, the roasted root vegetables, the grilled tenderloins...anything and everything in the bakery is amazing. The store itself has a lot of great gourmet items and unique condiments and side dishes. If you are ever in a hurry and need good, clean, healthy flavorful food---The Pantry is the place to go. Great gourmet deli and market. The Italian sub on baguette was great. Basically any Italian cold cut you can think of -- salami, mortadella, prosciutto etc. The white bean soup I had was delicious and very light. Parking lot is also a nice plus. However, there was no where to sit and it's not a great location to eat in if it's busy. The make your own salad bar is cool and tasty but I wish you could make it yourself instead of them doing it. read more

We used to love this place. Daily costumers. The girls at the bakery were friendly and the chefs were very attentive. Unfortunately recently things have gone down hill. Payment system here needs to revised. Currently they have management asking around if people paid. It's very uncomfortable when you have paid and are being asked this question. If not during your whole meal you can feel eyes staring at you. I'd much rather take my business somewhere else where I won't be interrogated after or before every meal. We used The Pantry for catering for our intimate backyard wedding. We spoke with some of the staff to figure out how much food we needed, and they were really great about accommodating the gluten/dairy allergies of some of our guests. All of the food was delicious, and we had a perfect amount. We had the zucchini/turkey meatballs, grilled shrimp, crostini's for appetizers. Cedar plank salmon, beef tenderloin, and veggie lasagna for main dishes, and mixed veggies as a side, and a salad bar. Everything was delicious! When my caterer disappeared the week before an event, the Pantry was able to fill our needs on short notice. Kelly worked with me to develop a menu that fit both our budget and the atmosphere of our event. The overall cost per person was surprisingly less expensive than if we'd invited them all to a restaurant dinner with the same offerings. Kelly was also helpful in picking crowd-pleasers: Mexican polenta bites, seared sesame tuna, NY strip crostinis, tomato-basil skewers, cookies, and cut fruit. Tomato-basil skewers are usually reliable but unremarkable, but they were unexpectedly delicious with a creamy dipping sauce. The Mexican polenta bites had a quick suggestion of spicy that disappeared almost immediately and even spicy-phobic people reached for more. I was surprised to see almost every seared tuna bite disappear, but again the dip was a perfect creamy pair for it. People at our event were vocal about how much they loved the food and multiple people asked for the caterer's name. The food was delivered on time and arrived neatly-presented on silver trays. My only involvement was putting them on the table and removing the plastic covers. We'll definitely use them again for professional events and maybe even a few family birthday celebrations. read more

The Pantry is a favorite place to grab lunch when visiting my best friend in Fairfield. The sandwiches are great and really nicely evenly distributed. You feel like you are getting a little bit of everything in every bite, which is always great compared to the alternative that so many places offer-- a big heap of in the middle of the bread and nothing on the edges. The atmosphere is also quaint. It almost looks as if you are sitting in an old time provision stand or whatever just by the way it's laid out. The people working there are extremely polite and seem happy to be there, which is also a plus. read more

I used to walk to the Pantry for lunch every day on my lunch break. I usually picked up one of their entrees and brang home a pint of their mango sorbet every once in awhile. Their prepared food selection is usually a soup or two, dips, and assorted meals,- memorable ones being pasta with broccoli rabe and sausage and some not-so-good asian potstickers. They also have a dessert counter, salad bar, and other upscale grocery items. Produce is ok, some oddities, but not a huge selection. They carry a lot of rarer items like tahini, shrimp paste, and some interesting things like vegan cinnamon twists (writing this is causing me grief over not having any) and fleur de sel caramels. Since I'm not pulling in $70k+ a year, I don't shop here regularly. However, it's a really good idea to check the place out and get to know their products. You know those recipes that call for something out of the ordinary and you have NO idea where to get it? You can probably find it at the Pantry. The Pantry is a nice little local market comprised of bakery, deli & grocery options located in Fairfield. Upon entry I was very impressed with all the fresh food selections. The Pantry has a wide range of offerings from salads, sandwiches, soups, baked goods, meats and a coffee bar. Everywhere you look their are delicious options. Comfy atmosphere with good vibes. Overall prices are reasonable for a market. Only downside to this place is the parking lot. Small and tight.. But don't let that stop you from indulging. read more

The pantry has some of the best food around. The bakery is always great, and the salads are good and not expensive. The only downside, which is a pretty big downside, is that the salad makers do not wear gloves. I have told the manager once already, and decided to go back to give them another try. Let me say I love the Pantry , for years and have been singing their praises for years, I'm a business owner in Fairfield. Today was the first time I've ever had an issue, I purchased 6 individual cake slices for my husbands birthday yesterday, 2 of my choices were hard and appeared and tasted stale, I was very surprised, I've never had anything bad at the Pantry. I reluctantly brought back the pieces to them to quietly express my issue today. The cashier I chose was great, alone so I didn't cause anyone to overhear my return. She brought in the manager that was rude, loud and in front of others informed me I was mistaken and the cakes are made daily. I asked her if she looked at, tasted my return, she rudely told me " no, I don't eat cake" . My problem is not this store, but the rude manager, Iv e seen her in action there before, belittling the employees as well, I will absolutely come back to this store, however this women is a horrible manager that needs to be trained in customer service and people skills. read more

It's small, but well stocked with the full variety of items that you'd want in a neighborhood market, plus more. In addition to typical pantry items, produce, dairy, meats, and frozen foods, they have a coffee bar, bakery, and prepared foods. Their prepared foods are pretty tasty, although expect to pay gourmet market prices for them, and they have some limited seating inside. I was surprised by the quality of the bakery - they have some tasty cakes, cupcakes, pastries, cookies (like the chocolate chip I had recently - crispy, crunchy edges, softer middle, lots of chips in the brown sugar dough - and only $1!), and those little mousse poppers? Addictingly good, although that dark chocolate one will stop you in your tracks with the large mouthful of creamy bitter sweetness. But that parking lot...UGH! read more

I'm upping my review to 5 stars - an extra one for the owner and customer service. Even though they do not want to praised, I will say they went above and beyond to reward a good samaritan who saved someone's life in a nearby incident. I also find them to carry some very high quality products and not so crazy expensive as other small markets. I walked in on some sort of sampling party and the pork, vegan meatballs and blue corn blueberry cake samples were delicious. Love their made to order salads- always a line, but worth it! Everyone has huge smiles on their faces: owners, staff and guests. And everywhere you look you see tempting things to eat. It would be inaccurate to call it a grocery store. It is lot more than that. It is a true culinary experience. Shelves after shelves are stocked with all kinds of unique and everyday gourmet goods. In addition, they offer a large selection of ready-to-eat foods as well as salads and sandwiches to order. And my favorite - a scrumptious dessert counter. Oh! If only I could eat one of everything that was on display there today! The Pantry's mission is to bring restaurant quality food to people at affordable prices. And they have successfully achieved that goal for many years. I ordered a crab cake and a mini fruit tart today for my lunch. The crab cake had a nice spicy kick to it. It was a pleasant surprise. It was so far away from blah! It had a crunchy exterior and soft, moist, meaty interior with the perfect tartar sauce to go with it. I've never been less than impressed by the Pantry! The bakery is my usual go to - the chocolate chip cookies are some of the best I've ever had, second only to Zarros (nobody can compete with those). I just tried their salad station today for lunch, absolutely delicious! You can pick and choose as many of the toppings as you please, and it's all tossed in your choice of dressing.
