The food was pretty good but nothing too special. The wait was crazy long and the restaurant was over crowded. You have to wait in a lone out the door and then when you order you are sat. We waiting over a half hour to get through the line and once we were sat people in lone were hovering over our table the whole time. The bathrooms are in a bad spot and the workers were not pleasant. I did like my sandwich and I got to try the Boston Creme pancakes but nothing was super outstanding. I probably wouldn't come back. read more

This was a great breakfast place. Keep in mind that the place is not very big and you can only get a table after you have ordered so seating is not guaranteed. You can make your own by pick what you would like on a display of breakfast items such as bacon, sausage, veggies, cheese, etc or, you can ordered one of many great dishes off of their menu. I had the California Avocado Toast! Oh it was so good! They put a good amount of avocado, topped with tomato salsa, bacon bits, and two sunny side up eggs on top of a toasted white baguette. Finally checked this place out after hearing great things on Yelp and even random "best breakfast" lists across the internet. I read up on reviews before I came, so I wasn't surprised to see a long line out the door at 10:30 on a Sunday morning. My friend and I knew the drill, so we got in line and waited to order, and then to get a table. We waited a while, maybe about 25 minutes to get to the front of the line. The wait was completely bearable, but the people shoving past you to get to the blocked bathrooms, or the workers with dirty dishes trying to get to the blocked kitchen, was honestly pretty hectic and annoying. I definitely am giving this place the stars it is getting because I admire the kitchen team so much. They were constantly taking orders and making the food quickly, right in front of you. They were extremely friendly and helpful. My friend has a nut allergy, and she was easily able to directly inform the chef and get assurance that the pancakes we wanted to order were nut-free. We immediately received our food, and were seated by a hostess. If you are worried about being seated after you order, don't be. They will take care of you! Once we sat down with our food I was a bit underwhelmed. There was definitely nothing wrong with the food, and it tasted good, but honestly it wasn't anything at all special. My friend and I got breakfast sandwiches on bagels, and split an order of the Boston cream pancakes. Again, all food was fine, it just felt like I could've gotten it anywhere else, or even made it myself. This wouldn't have bothered me if I hadn't had to wait in the massive chaotic line for over 20 minutes! Overall, the food was good enough and the service was great, but I wouldn't bother waiting in line thinking you're going to have some crazy good food that makes the wait worth it. The food we ate was awesome. Experience not so great. I got a coffee which was not refilled during the whole dining experience. Never asked if I needed cream or sugar so I drank it black. No problem. Our water wasn't refilled either. I got the western omelet. Inside there was uncooked egg. Not just yellow runny parts ... whites of egg that were not cooked to the point it was clear runny along with runny yolk. When I showed waitress she asked me if I wanted my omelette well done. I couldn't help but reply that I would like my omelette cooked please. Well done? There was literally raw egg she was looking at. She took the omelette. Since we had already waited quite some time for this to come out I decided to just have them keep the omelette and I shared French toast with my daughter. Very delicious. Fresh fruit was great. The waitress came by and I gave her my card but before swiping I asked if she was sure the omelette charge was removed. She went inside to check. She comes back and says yes it was removed. I swipe,sign and ask for receipt. It took a bit to get the receipt which included the charge for the omelette. The manager was not available but another waitress named Diane was very kind and helped me fix the bill. I think I still have to call credit card company because now I have two receipts for charges and no receipt for a refund on the first swipe. Anyway between the lie about the omelette being removed and the total lack of service in drink attention and the response to being shown there was raw egg inside my omelette ... won't go back. read more

I just had an awful experience there. I live in the neighborhood and go there all the time. I went at 3:45 and got a seat outside. I like to sit there, order food, drinks, and study. I was informed that the kitchen was closing at 4:00 and would re-open at 4:30. I was not hungry then so I asked if it was ok if I ordered a coffee, studied, and then ordered food once they opened back up at 4:30 and was told, "no. we can't jsut have people sitting here not eating food." I was asked to leave. I was floored. I found it so, so rude to ask paying customers to leave. Super disappointed because I love this spot. :( read more

The line is very long and doesn't move all that quickly so be prepared to wait. Once you do all that waiting you make it to the counter where you order your food cafeteria style and watch the line chefs prepare each item to order. I ordered the Banana Pancakes (buttermilk pancakes with fresh bananas cooked right in) and my husband got the Texas Style French Toast with strawberries and bananas. Both of which we would highly recommend. All in all the place is definitely a great spot to check out while visiting Boston. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was due to the long wait (about 45 mins). I'd recommend going after the morning rush or during the week when the line might be a bit more tolerable. read more

My first time in Boston and it seems I'm on a tour of tiny breakfast places. Yesterday I ate at Mike & Patty's and today it's the Paramount. Loved this little place and so glad for the other reviews on Yelp! Don't worry about the lines they said-- and they were right. It all works out fine. You'll get a table while your food is hot! Ask for butter, jelly or whatever before you leave the counter. They're busy and don't come around like waitstaff. I thought the service was fast and efficient. Solid choice for a tasty meal. PS. Oh, The Paramount! I've been here several times over the past 4 years, and it is very consistent. The food is fantastic. Sweet and savory, they have down pat. I typically would get the sweet stuff for brunch; Fresh Caramel and Banana French Toast in particular. What a delicious dish. It feels like diabetes though, so if you're not into the super sweet, I recommend against it. I've also gotten their Malted Belgian Waffle, which is quite good, although you have to pay all sorts of extra for fruit on top. Most recently I got a tomato, basil, fresh mozzarella omelet with egg whites. This was my attempt to be relatively healthy, and I typically hate eating healthy foods with the assumption that it will be bland. I must say though, this was quite a good omelet. The balance of basil and fresh mozzarella certainly contributed to the light, yet yummy flavor. Usually I get a coffee drink or juice to go with the meal. All have been good, but I think that like any diner type restaurant, juice is way over priced. The service here is always wonderful. Despite the long wait and interesting seating rules (don't save seats until you get your food. They'll typically find a seat for you and bring your tray of food over for you), everything else runs quite smoothly. The employees are always welcoming, happy, and polite. With such a busy place to help run, I would imagine they would get stressed more, but if they do, they never show it. Definitely recommend coming here earlier in the day as far as weekends go. I've come around 930/10AM and it's been just fine, but come around 11-12 and you'll be stuck for quite some time. If it's hot, bring a bottle of water, although I do remember that they offered free water for customers one hot summer day. I think that it's worth a try! I had the avocado, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich and an iced coffee  (apparently their espresso machine couldn't use soy milk) and my husband had the breakfast special with a side of bacon. I'm not sure if I'm fully qualified to properly review the Paramount as I have yet to go there for what seems like their best option- breakfast. I literally JUST came back from dinner there though- and it's almost embarrassing how quickly I'm reviewing it but I take yelping very seriously, people. My coworkers have been raving about this place for weeks now. I totally trust their judgment but in my experience, I'm never fully impressed by places that are constantly raved about- because I get my hopes up too much. That is not the case with the Paramount though. Too bad I'm on a diet (ugh) otherwise I would've been even more excited about the menu options. I had the teriyaki salmon- which was delicious. It was sitting on a bed of veggie lo mein- and it tasted so fresh, it's been awhile since I had a meal this satisfying and genuinely well made. They also served water with thin slices of cucumber- haven't seen that in ages- very refreshing and I was already pleasantly surprised and intrigued from the get go. I've waited here for over an hour to sit here for brunch on Saturdays/Sundays on HOT Boston summer days and I've always left satisfied. Whenever I'm in Boston, I make time to come here for a hearty breakfast. As others have said, there's usually a line (esp on weekends during peak times) and they don't take reservations, but you know what? Waiting in that line with some great friends who aren't in a hurry has consistently been a pleasure. The whole sensory experience: anticipating the food, smelling it as the kind Mexican workers who own the place cook it for ya and sliding your tray down the line as if you're back in your high school cafeteria, but with far superior food. Their $6 or so breakfast special with two eggs, home fries and coffee is great. The home fries they serve are delightfully addicting, the eggs always perfectly cooked to order. The coffee could be better - it's your typical diner fare. Would love if they sourced some higher quality beans. The blueberry / banana pancakes are full of freshly cooked dough with tasty bits of fruit. It's worthwhile to pay a little extra for real maple syrup, otherwise you may just ruin this divinely crafted plate of flapjacks. I love how you can just order 1 pancake to try. I haven't eaten lunch here, but they also serve some mighty-fine lookin' sandwiches. I speculate, but I imagine they must be great. If you're visiting Boston and have some time for breakfast, don't let The Paramount pass you by. A group of 4 of us went to Paramount for Brunch on a Sunday. After a wait in line, it was a delicious meal. The line situation was interesting, there was a sign that said that they have a "delicate balance of seating" and that in order to maintain that, we needed to stay in the line. Fortunately they cook everything in front of you so you can view the kinds of cross-contamination (not good if you have allergies) that will happen. I placed my order accordingly. As a vegetarian, I did not want the ham fat in my home fries, so I tried to order sweet potato fries but it was too early. Another person in my party ordered the french toast with banana and that looked amazing. But the french toast was cooked on the slab with the ham too. It started to rain. I was up late by East Coast standard, but still early by California standards. I completed work emails. Only to discover my personal inbox was filled with emails written from friends back home. Friends who used to live in Boston and since moved to San Francisco, but still visited Boston often, for work and for family. I put my hat on, left the Liberty hotel, passing the T line on my way to the Paramount. Rumored to have better breakfast than Clink, I was hoping for something that would ease my anxiety, brought upon by endless work. I stood in line like everyone else. Got the vegetarian omelette with cheese and spinach. Food was ready before I was seated. What a concept. Coffee was warm and filing. Diners were happy because this is a very efficient place. No waiting around endlessly for food. They arrive when you sit down. On the way home (as in the hotel), a lady in her sixties saw me stopping at a French looking store browsing for things, and she stopped as well to chat. I told her that I was here visiting. She told me where to go and do some serious shopping, and what i should do after shopping (more food). I like the restaurant Paramount, because where it's located, and the fact that you could wander about in Beacon Hill all day long after. This is the reoccurring theme on this trip: I don't know why I stopped coming to Boston, but this town ain't so bad at all. Certainly this restaurant reaffirms it. Am I the only one not drinking The Paramount cool aide? But seriously, 4 stars and over 1400 reviews, I'm confused. Usually Yelp never steers me wrong but The Paramount in my opinion is nowhere near a 4 star rating, I think 2 stars is even generous. What's so special about this place? The fact that they cook the food in front of you? I don't mean to totally take a poop on them but I was kinda pissed at myself for coming here when I could have gone somewhere else for breakfast. The food overall was maybe average at best? Not even, below average. The sausage links were served cold and tasted disgusting. Also the eggs tasted weird. I wanted to originally order that avocado toast thing, forget what it's called, maybe the sunrise? But I changed last minute because people in front of me ordered and it looked awful. Since highschool, I've been one of the "cool" kids that never used cafeteria trays. (You probably were too) But at The Paramount, I WANTED to be part of the tray fun. It's a pretty small space but the energy level is so high. It just made me happy. On top of that, the food is delicious and the portions are generous. Order: Caramel and Banana French Toast and a Turkey Burger with Pear Chutney and a side of Sweet Potato Fries. The bananas on the french toast were not too ripe. I hope they intentionally did that because it's genius. The caramel already offers enough sweetness so the barely ripe bananas were just there for flavor. The turkey patty was thick and juicy, complemented with all the other flavors (pickle, pear chutney, very sweet and fresh lettuce). My friend and I also got a small glass of orange juice and carrot juice. It was at least $3. Definitely overpriced. This has been on my go to list for a long time. It's one of Bostons few "trendy" places to brunch. After finally coming here, I can totally see why. It's in the heart of Beacon Hill, so location is prime. It has the best philosophy ever... which is that you wait in line to order/pay, and you cannot save your seat. They have a big painting on the wall stating the science of this for over 40 years, and that as long as you follow the rules, there will always be a table by the time you sit! While we had to wait in line 30 minutes, it worked out! While some may view this as a negative, I actually enjoyed this as I got to see all the amazing meals go past me, as well as watch the chefs cook. It also means you can leave once your done eating, since your not waiting to pay. Genius. The restaurant is small, with great lighting and cozy feel. It's busy, hectic, and not somewhere to relax. However, the food brings that cozy feel to life. The menu is huge, and there are so many other things I want to try. Each meal is insta worthy, plated to perfection, and so many options. The best part is they make it all in front of you, cafeteria style. I got the Berry French toast, and J. got the french toast and eggs/bacon combo. We were so full and so happy. We obviously got mimosas too... because brunch! Given the craziness/busyness/location, its somewhere you don't go every day, but is definitely worth going to if your in the area or want guaranteed good food, good service, and local Boston feel. read more

The service waitress grabbed my coffee by the rim (serious turn off from a person who has an immune problem). Both of our orders were incorrect. There was problems with communication. I'd give Paramount 5 stars if it didn't always take an hour of standing in a cramped area with glasses and plates always banging their way through the hall to get my food - yes, sometimes I'm just not patient enough when it comes to the first meal of the day! BUT - I found the new solution - TAKE OUT! The last time I went to Paramount, I decided it would be better to wait in my own place and be able to do things, rather than stand in line and man, after I called in my order, walked over, went straight to the register, paid and bam, I was home eating my Paramount goodness. The day service is never friendly, nor helpful, but the food is great. I love the omelets, waffles, and pancakes (chocolate chip ones are great too!). For lunch (don't go too early otherwise they won't serve lunch food!) I love their sweet potato fries, and buttermilk fried chicken sandwich. DINNER: Paramount is definitely more of a day meal place, but I have had dinner, and one of the dishes stands out: MARINATED SIRLOIN TIPS! Super tender, tasty and huge portions! Having heard a lot about this brunch spot, I was very excited to sample their pancakes and french toast. Came by on a beautiful Saturday morning last weekend and, unfortunately, came away thoroughly underwhelmed. The blueberry and apple cinnamon pancakes had a sort of mealy, made-from-dry-mix texture and the whole wheat french toast was actually a bit on the soggy side. Thankfully the prices were low enough to not warrant too much complaint. Funny, but two of my favorite breakfast spots are 2,500 miles from where I live. One is Charlie's in Boston's South End (see my review below). The other place I'm thinking of is the Paramount. Both places are old (though Charlie's is historic, I'd say, not just old). When I lived in Boston, I was more of a South End guy, not getting over to Beacon Hill so much. But the Paramount is kind of cool, the way you line up, order, get your hot food and sit down (and then after you eat, get out--though no one is actually pushing you out the door, most people I'd think will see the line of people waiting and not linger over the newspaper and coffee). I'd skip this place if you are thinking you are going to catch up with a friend you have not seen in years--there are other places for long conversations, the Paramount is not one of them. I guess by my definition, the lack of ability to linger makes the Paramount a 'breakfast' not a 'brunch' place. Oh, and expect a half hour wait at least, out the door, on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The food is solid. Nice fresh eggs, good bacon and sausage. I like the pancakes and the French toast. The fruit is always ripe and fresh--some places kind of load you up on pretty hard and tasteless melon, but that has not been my experience with The Paramount. From reading the reviews it looks like this place is for breakfast or brunch. Too bad I hadn't read those before going. Ended up going here for lunch and was pretty disappointed. The prices were reasonable and the atmosphere is nice, but I did not like my food. At all. I got the salmon burger with sweet potato fries. Normally I love sweet potatoes in all varieties, but the fries were not good. I barely ate a handful. I ended up dissecting the "burger" to just eat the patty dipped in the sauce. But only because I was hungry, and not because it was good. I will say that others in my party enjoyed their meals more than I. The tuna tacos got the best reviews. The service was quick and efficient as well. I would be willing to give this place another shot for breakfast based upon the strength of the other reviews, but I would try one of the other restaurants in the area for lunch. read more

An office early lunch brought us to the Paramount, and I tagged along because I can't say no to breakfast food. I wasn't psyched to wander into a joint in Beacon Hill and have to make my way to a counter to place an order, but their system works and the food is cooked quickly. Our party of four chose omelets(all looked tasty), and the breakfast special. At $6 for 2 eggs, hash browns, toast, and coffee (I subbed tea), it was a bargain. The eggs were fluffy, the toast was tasty (albeit wheat, which isn't my favorite), and the home fries had good flavor but were dry. I seriously should have tried the bacon. My tea was one of those filter bags with loose leaves, so it tasted pretty good too. It's cramped in there, and savory/flavorful/funky are not adjectives to describe this food. I've eaten breakfast at The Paramount a long time ago and found it to be a slightly stressful experience with the line. I went back last week for dinner with a friend, and had a very pleasant experience. The greeter did not ask for our name at the door, so he accidentally sat another group before my us. No worries! He very kindly told us each to pick a drink on the house, and we were seated not long afterward. My friend and I shared the guac + chips, which were surprisingly VERY good. Above average guacamole. My friend ordered the squash ravioli, and I got the BBQ chicken salad. Her ravioli was a bit too rich for me, but the salad was on par to what I was expecting. The portions were both very big, and we ended up taking the rest of our meals to go. (And yes, I did enjoy the rest of that salad the next day. Yum.) As meals go, we were both satisfied, but I wasn't completely bowled over. The space is VERY tight, so when there are folks waiting to be seated, they're so close to the first row of tables that they could join the conversations of those already dining. I was torn over this place because the food was good but the wait was just excessive. We waited over an hour and the food was very good but I would not wait in line again for this place. I think I could find something else that is comparable without the line. The food overall is good and I would recommend at least trying it. read more
