My wife and I embarked on an awesome adventure in 2020... we bought a cottage on Sagamore Hill. The first place we stopped on a raw June day, was the Parrot! We had a couple drinks ...so fun! Once we closed on the place, we returned many times, bringing friends and family to dinner. We liked the brazed ham hocs...a bit heavy, but good, and the smash burger... nice and greasy... great for after a day at the beach! About a year ago, the Ho s left the menu and when we ordered the smash burger, it came out like a regular burger. My brother in law first noticed this. So the next time I came ...already believing that Parrot was relegated to being a burger place, I ordered the smash burger and asked the waitress whether it would be smashed or not. She swore t would be smashed. ....came out square-edged. I tried again, because Parrot, as a restaurant concept is soooo important to have... a place that's open... local.... And ...open... LOL. I pushed and lobbied for the smash burger... and even talked to an assistant manager ... not smashed. Then it hit me that the problem is that they've gone to a frozen burger! Finally... we have two kids in college, so we're trying to save $$ right now... found an ear local gift card and opted to try Parrot again. I got the pan seared haddock. We had wait for a table on the roof-deck so we decided to sit inside upstairs with a beautiful view of the beach. The fish tacos were much better than the grilled shrimp tacos that we had the last time we were at The Parrot. The salad was very good, and the freshly made sushi and sashimi were excellent. Our server explained the sushi would take longer than the other meals, but it was worth the wait. read more

As a regular customer at the Parrot. The food was great. Service was poor at best. We sat at the bar on second floor with the beautiful view. It was a relatively quiet night. There were about 10 people at the bar. The bartender (a nice outgoing young redhead girl) took our order but never checked back to see if everything was good. She stood at the register texting on her phone for the entire time we ate. We waited 15 minutes after finishing our meal for the bill. We finally walked over to the register, apologized for interrupting her texting and asked for the bill. She dropped the bill and went back to her texting. No thank you, no come back again, nothing. We would never tip less than 20% and didn't on this night. However, I was very disappointed in the service and will probably take a break from there for a while. This is meant as constructive criticism to the bartender. If you are working at a bar pay attention to the folks that are paying your wages for the night. You can text your friends later after work. I went my first time on my birthday this Tuesday 6/6. The staff were absolutely amazing! I am injured so they brought me upstairs in the elevator. Nice! Our waiter Jimmy was excellent. He was so attentive and made us feel like we were his only customers the whole Dinner. Our appetizers was very good. We got Shrimp Cocktail (4) nice and big with a cocktail sauce with horseradish on top. Mussels in a wine garlic sauce delicious. Calamari fried good but very small hardly any tentacles (my fav). 1/2 dozen oysters not for me though, and two cups of clam chowder too dark for me and I did taste it, after all I am the birthday Nana! The entrees were good. Steak Frites (they didn't share even a taste with me so not sure, but they had nothing left so that's good. I had Shrimp Scampi which was good, but it came served on fat spaghetti (Not my kind of noodles so I really just took it home. Mac & Cheese with Buffalo Chicken yummy. A lobster roll loaded with lobster very tasty. And lastly 2 Tacos with beer can chicken with fries so good. My wonderful waiter brought me a piece of cake for my birthday dessert. I went to the Parrot because I know The Galley in Scituate, Bia Bistro in Cohasset, and Trident in the Hingham Shipyard. I expected way, way more and left not just disappointed but puzzled. How could the same group that does those do this?? This is one of those places where the menu is a minefield. You're never sure what you'll be getting, or if it's gonna be good. We'd been moving stuff all afternoon and were hungry. We'd been to the Red Parrot back in the day and so decided to pop in to sate our hunger. The place wasn't slammed but they had a generous crowd. Because it was cold (Mass in May, doncha know), we chose the main level inside: the room with the view. And it is quite a view. If you're on the bubble and not sure if you want to eat here, come for the view. Figure out the rest later. The rest. Lots of fried food and such on the menu. It's hard to parse what is what. I got the tacos in large part because the rice and beans sounded good. I was thinking tacos=mexican ergo I'll get a side of mexican rice and black mexican beans -- two separate but often paired foods. Nope. I got a lukewarm serving of gummy old white rice with a handful of old beans strewn throughout. I can't remember the last time I've been served a dish this bland and unappealing. The tacos were better but oh so ordinary. The entire dish came with one lime as the only seasoning but the lime was dry. My companion got the Portuguese stew, which was very flavorful and filled to overflowing with seafood. A few shrimp and small clams (littlenecks?), a couple of cubes of salmon, and four or five huge mussels (the biggest I've ever seen served), all topped with toast. A tasty if rustic dish. He was happy. But it was as if the two meals came out of two separate kitchens. How could one chef conceive of these two disparate dishes much less send them both out to the same table??? It was like those rice parables to demonstrate the inequities of the universe. You get one grain and the guy across gets a banquet. And while the stew at $27 was priced the to reflect what was served (regardless of quality), the tacos ($15 with a $3 upcharge because... fish?) are wildly out of line with what is served, both the quantity AND the quality. In Boston, where prices are generally higher, you can easily get three foodie gourmet frou-frou tacos for the same price as these two tortilla slugs. And I promise you, the Boston tacos are far superior in every way. Service was decent and cheerful. The view was great. The ambiance relaxed and clean. They have a roofdeck that's great in sunny weather (depending on where they seat you -- don't let them put you in the back under the loudspeaker) and a bar on the lowerlevel with TVs where you can watch the game. But we came to eat. When the food is uneven or bad or both, people will remember. I will remember. read more

Oh this place hurt my feelings. It's a beautifully remodeled building with a prime location right on Nantasket beach. Two floors of ocean views. There is so much wasted potential here!! I don't know how else to describe the food besides embarrassing. When you're a restaurant on the water serving seafood, the expectations are high. I ordered the fish & chips. I was shocked at the portion size in relation to the price. Biting into it provided no relief either. Tasted bland and was lacking seasoning. The coleslaw was just as flavorless. This is one of the worst fish & chip dishes I've had on the South Shore and definitely the most expensive! We've been coming to the parrot for years and had always had a phenomenal experience. Last night was shocking and atrocious, especially for an attempt at a birthday dinner. We stood at the hostess's stand for a few minutes waiting to be seated, to a point where we had to move to the bar in an attempt to be seated upstairs. The bartender instructed us to wait by the hostess's stand and we would be served; when we get back to standing there the woman that had been standing by the stairs to a lower floor that had been on and off staring at us while she was mid conversation with what sounded like a family friend turned out to be the hostess, who promptly greeted us as if we were trying to leave. After getting to our table and an indeterminate amount of time, and having to scavenge silverware and napkins from the bar (my deepest apologies for disrupting a riveting conversation between the bartenders, she seemed VERY upset I had to ask!) we order food and drinks, only to receive watered down drinks consisting mostly of sour mix. Both the beer chicken tacos and burger we ordered made us sick for most of the night. We sat for roughly an hour before being surprised served the check, and when the waitress was questioned on the matter, we were informed she assumed we wanted said check due to the staff attempting to close the upper patio; we'd barely even begun eating and had just received our second attempt at drinks, both of which were once again mostly sour mix. During our brief stay, we got to bare witness to a small group of older women sexually harassing young men directly in front of our table. Very little could not be heard or not witnessed, especially considering how many extra bodies pulled chairs up to the table in front of us. I've never had to mention I'd rather not have a grown man twerking in my girlfriend's face while the entire wait staff (I counted at least 5 servers on the second floor) did absolutely nothing, but got around them uncomfortably. We've never paid over $100 to get heartburn, food poisoning and deeply uncomfortable before, but what an experience it was. PS: if there is no soap in the bathrooms due to the dispenser being broken, would it not be wise to find a substitute until that dispenser is fixed? read more

I went into the restaurant late afternoon. I love the view and it is a perfect locations. The hostess was very pleasant and the food was really good. But the service was very slow and the waitress was not very attentive. I would give it a five star based on the food but service makes a difference. read more

We order the clam chowder, fried calamari and the fish n chips ( hoddock). The presentation was a hit or miss. The chowder was just feeling all over the place. The chowder was fine. It was really dark and had alot of potatoes. The fried calamari was so heavy breaded, unseasoned, and chewy. The fish n chips was heavy breaded but the hoddock was moist. The fries were over salted. Don't go come here during covid if you have an "expired" license they will not serve you alcohol. We have to make accommodations as guest during covid by wearing a mask but this restaurant can't serve you a drink. The state has extended our renewal date to September making our identification valid. Besides feeling humiliated by being denied alcohol as an adult in a group of adults all over 28 the service was also terrible I waited 20 mins before I got a glass of water in 90° weather The food order I received was 100% incorrect The only thing they got going for them is decent food (once you get the right order) & a beautiful view read more

Most of the tap beer was luke warm and obviously they need to clean their taps (all the beer tasted a little off). We were tempted to order some food but there were so many flies we decided to pass. So many things went wrong tonight. My family of 16 came to dinner. We were served appetizers AFTER we had finished our meals, and what we were served was calamari, mostly batter. Multiple burgers were cooked pink when no pink was ordered, and vice versa. Two haddock meals were undercooked, absolutely not pan seared as advertised. Chicken dish was served to my 11 year old RAW. They comped a lot of our meals, which was appreciated, but the managers reaction was a little underwhelming when we expressed our concerns. Not sure that we'll return. read more

Arrived at 7:30pm. Waited 15 min for a server to even come over to us. An hour and 15 minutes later, we still hadn't even gotten the appetizer we ordered, despite other tables around us, who came after us, had full meals. The table next to us was having the same issue. The server apparently alerted both managers, and nothing was done. We left at 9pm (as did the couple next to us) having still not had dinner. Six of us went for dinner. We were delighted that there was an elevator to the upstairs, outdoor dining. The appetisers were okay. Wings, shrimp and calamari. The entrees were varied. The burger was good. The Portuguese stew had closed clams but the rest was tasty. The haddock was cold. The anchovies on the salad were not good, the black bean tacos were less than average. My meal hadn't arrived when the other 5 had eaten so I cancelled it. mud sliders were then ordered with the understanding that it wasn't wanted too sweet. They were incredibly sweet. So much so they could not be consumed. Overall it was a very disappointing experience. Go for the view but only order basic burger or something that can't go wrong. Off night perhaps? I'm a big fan of the new & improved Parrot restaurant in Hull. The owner has done a great job of redecorating the place and building a terrific staff. I have had nothing less than great experiences at the restaurant, but a recent take-out order left me very disappointed. My friend & I ordered a hamburger (no tomatoes or pickles, due to medical condition) & I ordered tacos w/a side of guac. We placed our order online then went to the restaurant to pick it up only to find out the system somehow rejected it. The hostess re-entered the order and we sat around for 30 mins. or so on the seawall waiting for it. We got home & both orders were messed up and inedible. Her order had pickles on it so she could not eat it. Mine had been doused in siracha oil and mayonnaise--- so much so that when I picked it up to eat it, it just poured out the bottom and onto my new shirt. What's more, the guac was missing. I couldn't eat most of my meal & she had to rinse off the hamburger & throw away the bun. In spite of this, I will return to the Parrot. I'm too big a fan of the place to let one bad experience keep me from returning. I just may hold off on ordering takeout for a while. read more

The beach views here are nice if you get a table upstairs on the beach side. The food is pretty good. I usually get the wings. Service is also consistently good - no complaints. They don't take reservations but the wait is generally not that long. Some of the tables are not quite 6 feet apart but since it's open air, I guess it's OK. There's ample parking - never had a problem finding a spot on the lot. You can also park across the street at the beach. Good date spot. read more

Lobster dinner was served with corn that looked like it was a month old! The potatoes looked like they came off the shelf at super market and not cooked!Why serve it with a sausage and charge a fee of waste. Brian Hoolahan Owner of the Parrot and other fine restaurants he owns, was on the front line making fresh omelettes along with his excellent staff. From outstanding baked ham (my favorite) to the Chicken Provencal to everything in between. Dessert table with great pastries and great coffee. Like some of the other reviews, the fish and chips was nasty! The breading was undercooked and mushy. We also got salsa and chips for $11. Gave us 11 chips and a plastic cup of salsa. I've had better food from food trucks. read more

Service was prompt and friendly. Absolutely loved the lobster Rangoon and the poutine. We were highly disappointed in the Fried calamari as they were rings the size of pennies and there were more fried onions and peppers than actual calamari. The drinks were absolutely horrendous. Only good drink was the long Island and even at that, it was subpar to the 99's long Island. Next day down we will unfortunately be skipping and trying another spot. read more

(Visited about 5 weeks ago- just realized I never posted the review I wrote up We are locals who rode our bikes down to the beach and decided to stop in red parrot for some oysters and a beer. We sat at the bar downstairs. The oysters were great so we decided we would order an entrée to share. We decided on the roasted haddock with risotto. When it was brought out I could immediately smell bad fish. My body would not let me take a bite of it my husband tried and confirmed that it was bad. We told the bartender/waitperson and she said she was sorry but that "sometimes they get fish that just smells like that but it's not bad". We told her we wanted it sent back and that we were all set. A man sitting three empty seats down from us at the bar said that he could smell it from where he was sitting and it smelled rotten. The service was good, the oysters were great BUT I don't think I'd ever come back again. You don't put out bad food that could potentially make people very sick and the person working on seafood in the kitchen should have known that. Also- look at the picture of the dish. Was debating between 4 and 5 stars but LOOKED AT MYSELF IN THE MIRROR and thought what kind of new englandah during covid would knock on any place with a beautiful roof top that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean (Nantasket beach). Great cheaper-than-Boston draft list and solid food. It is expensive, but it's cheaper than passing the permitting process, buying an oceanfront home, installing a rooftop, shopping for food, and cooking it for yourself on said home's roof top. Perfect place to celebrate something, wine and dine the permitters who will approve the house, or impress your boo. Just doesn't get much better than their view! read more

This is the fifth time we have gone for dinner. Every time, fresh seafood and well made cocktails. You can't go wrong. We had a large party tonight, birthday, 12 people. The waitstaff was friendly and helpful and overall made the experience fun and relaxed. Our waitress was very quick to respond to any request. Also she was fantastic in ensuring the cake's moving pieces were in place and was able to work with all of us and had a great sense of humor. It's not easy having a party of 12, this staff is strong. Dinner on a July Sunday evening after a walk on Nantasket. We dined on the rooftop deck/patio. * Very nice service from the time we walked through the front door until the time we walked out. The restaurant was uncrowded and we were seated right away. * Dinner and cocktails were very (very!) well done. * Nice views. Cocktails: Blood Orange Margarita for the Mrs. and Caliente Margarita for me. Both drinks were balanced and delicious--not too sweet, not too spicy. So we had two. :-) The bartender sugars/salts half the rim which is brilliant. Dinner: We split a golden beet salad. She had the 2 Tacos with Rice & Beans (vegetarian style) and I had a Grilled Striped Bass over Citrus Flavored Quinoa from the daily specials menu. They really know how to grill bass. Soooo good. Ate here with my wife today for the first time. I ordered the fried Calamari for $14.00. The food didnt come on a plate. It comes on a small, rectangular aluminum pan that looks like a pan that is used in a toaster oven. The calamari was an overly fried jumble of unrecognized tiny calamari the size of a penny. I took the batter off of a few to taste them, and they had no flavor in my opinion. There were crumbled, fried onions with what looked like jalapeno. Here is a photo of what you get. read more

I'm giving 1 star because I could not post this review without clicking at least one star. We had a terrible experience tonight. One in our party has a serious shellfish allergy. She told the waiter, who did not seem to be paying attention. She ordered a burger, no French fries as she was told the fryolater is used for shellfish. Concerned that the waiter did not note the allergy, I spoke to a manager, Molly, who assured me she would take care of it. When our meals were delivered, there were French fries with the burger, AND the Portuguese stew I ordered was spilled all over my shirt. A different manager came over to take the burger & fries back. 10 minutes later a new burger was delivered. Neither manager came to our table to check on the food or apologize for the mistake made with the burger or spill. We sought out the manager after the meal and all he said was 'I'm sorry.' We live in Hull and have always enjoyed the food here, but will NEVER return. read more
