Was craving Pho and found this was the closest restaurant to the beach that sold Pho. To my surprise the food selection is quite a variety meaning they have Vietnamese, American, Italian and more! What's even better is the pricing definitely fits the bill & you definitely get your money's worth! Yes, this restaurant is located attached to a casino, but it doesn't feel like your at a casino. It feels like your at a separate restaurant. It's called The Patio for a reason. I LoVE the outdoor exterior. Our server said they renovated the outdoors about 2 months ago, & wow did it turn out nice! The service is mediocre, simple and attentive. Don't expect "cheesecake factory" service, they do the normal "is everything okay?...do you need anything else?" So we're cool with that. Tonight we ordered from the Vietnamese Menu, the pho #3 & #4 with a very appetizing appetizer. The pho is pretty tasty, there broth is made from boiled beef with the bone versus water with added beef broth powder.. Some may think it's "oily" but the broth is just made different. My Viet friends actually say by boiling the meat with the bone, is the true way of making Pho. Definitely one soup serving is enough to share between 2 people! This restaurant is off the beaten path , located in the midst of Auto Center Drive in Ventura, it's a hub bub of activity on the Casino end, men on cell phones calling in there bets or whatever may be, and then towards the back left side of the building, the restaurant can be located, it caters to both the casino goers, as well as local residents looking for a good meal. The menu is large enough that you get variety, but small enough not to overwhelm a patron that has a hard time with decisions. I chose the Players Club, when I tell you that sandwich was loaded down with cracked pepper turkey, I'm not joking, complimented by perfectly cooked bacon, lettuce and tomato, and fresh sour dough bread, yummo! If you go during lunch (which I did) don't expect fast execution, the waiter was slammed and working on his own, but he was personable and always made sure our drinks were filled while we waited for our meal to be served. We visited yesterday for the first time for Sunday football. Our regular 10am game spot is (tragically) no longer serving breakfast so I was really excited to check out what the Patio had to offer. Found this place on Yelp, didn't really read any of the reviews so we didn't really expect that it was located inside a small casino in between auto dealers...it was interesting. I thought it was going to be a nice place but it turned out to be okay - they had a live band playing in the patio which consist of a small dancing floor - nice but we sat inside because I didn't want to be next to the speakers. The food choices were interesting because they served American and had a separate menu for some Vietnamese dishes. I decided to try the spring rolls just to see if the Vietnamese food here was any good - and it did indeed turned out to be pretty fresh and big spring rolls. For entrees, I had the baby back ribs with mashed potatoes and season vegetables - really enjoyed the ribs and mashed potatoes however not so much the vegetables for it had an odd taste. Boyfriend had their Hawaiian burger - Teriyaki beef patty topped with cheese, pineapple and onion rings - it was huge and it came with some pretty good fries. The service was pretty nice - waitress was friendly and it was a pretty slow night - just a few tables out in the patio and a few occupied booths inside. The band played some nice jazzy blues and a few old slow rock songs and it wasn't super loud if you sit inside...loud enough for you to hear but not like so loud you can't hear yourself think. After having read reviews on this restaurant, I decided that most people who had given low marks were not happy with the service. So when our waitress asked us where we would like to sit, I told her that I would like to sit wherever she was going to be. Her name was Trisha, a very sweet lady. She took and served us our drinks right away. Then we ordered our meals, and I actually timed it: 8 minutes and our food was served!! Our water was refilled pretty frequently, and when we asked for extra condiments, Trisha came back with them within a minute. So all y'all out there, I gotta give this place five stars for their service. Now, the food: the core food was very good; however, the side stuff was below standard. Vietnamese spring rolls: the rolls were huge and good. The sauce was pretty bad: too sour for it to be peanut sauce. There was no hoisin nor sriracha on the table to substitute it, so we were out of luck. Patio burger: really can't go wrong with this. Pretty simple: big cheese burger with fries. I would have wanted pickles on the side and fresher bun. Prime rib: nice portion and very good. But it was served on a small rectangular plate with steamed vegetables and mashed potatoes. So, when you cut into the meat, the bloody juice from the meat would get mixed into the vegetables and the potatoes. Just didn't look very appetizing after a couple bites. Would have been perfect if the meal had been served on a bigger plate. Seared ahi tuna salad: greens were fresh, and the ahi was the best I had ever had: coated with sesame seeds and perfectly pink inside and nicely seared. Here is what went wrong: the dressing!!! It was a good thing I had asked for the dressing on the side because it was very much like soy sauce with a touch of sugar in it. No flavor whatsoever and extra salty. Not good not good at all!!! Pho: it was actually not bad. You get a medium size bowl of noodles with meat in it. It could have been better had it come with fresh basil leaves and the usual condiments for pho. Wilted basil leaves, a slice of lime, a few bean sprouts, and a couple slices of jalapeños were all tugged under the bowl. No hoisin, no sriracha, no fish sauce. They no longer have Viet sandwiches here. And the prime rib is now $19.95. Coffee is still $1. This is surprisingly a good place to eat. Having tried the Vietnamese options here, we would not order Viet again. All the sub standard sides could easily be corrected. We are going to check out their breakfast menu the next time we come out this way. read more

Tried this place out for breakfast because it is on the Axxess card - buy one get one free. What is really great is they have it on there for breakfast, lunch, and dinner so you can try all 3. Also, they are on the Ventura and Santa Barbara cards, both of which I have so I could go there 6 times and get one free. It was pretty iffy at first. I don't like when you walk into a relatively busy place and they say go ahead and sit anywhere because then I wonder if the servers actually know we are there. Sure enough we sat out in the patio for a good 7 minutes and were not acknowledged. I walked inside and told them we were out there. It took a long time to get a menu and then our drinks. After that service improved. Our waitress was very nice. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros, not the norm for me but is sounded so good. It had eggs on tortillas with a red sauce (looked a lot like the salsa to me) and a couple of slices of avo. Rice and black beans and potatoes on the side and a side of salsa. It was okay. Looked nice and tasted fine but nothing to rave about. My husband ordered the NY Steak and eggs with hash browns. Once again, it was just okay. The menu was a bit weird because it didn't have the typical bacon or sausage and eggs plates, however you could order all the items a la carte and it would end up being a pretty decent price. And for the most part the prices are decent. With Axxess card and tip came to about $20. I am definitely wanting to come and try lunch and dinner and see if its better. The food here is awesome when the Asian chef is cooking his menu. He is only there certain hours and he has a separate menu. Our favorite is the cold shrimp spring rolls. The rest of the time they offer good American food with a few fusion dishes like the seared ahi which is great. They offer a soup of the day and various salads like the chicken Caesar with more meat than salad it seemed like. They just started live music on the outdoor patio and they happen to be one of my favorite local bands. Zacamundo is a four piece string band who play banda , a traditional salsa that makes people want to dance. Friday nights is my new day to go for tacos, margaritas and music!. read more

What a fantastic experience! We stumbled across this Restuarant well visiting in Ventura and so glad we did. You can really tell this Chef prepares his food with a "Passion", his foods taste, presentation and value were all spot on. We experienced Executive Chef "West Cooke's" breakfast and I had decided to have the Bacon, Egg, Tomato and Cheese Sandwich, it was massive and the Bread was incredible...what a value for only $5.00 (with a side of Hash Browns). I was fortunate enough to meet the Chef outside when we were leaving. He told me we needed to come back on Fridays and experience his dinner, he stated he prepares "The BEST Prime Rib!". I will take him up on this and can't wait to go back. I have no problem driving 80 miles to indulge in his FOOD! We have visited this restaurant four or five times in the past. Because we so much enjoyed what we ordered the first time, it is the only thing that we now order. It is the chicken stirfry from the wok. The chicken is so very tender, the vegetables cooked to perfection and the sauce very delicious. It is served with a side of rice. The service has always been excellent and the food is delivered promptly. We have never had a complaint until now. We went and enjoyed the same meal again, however the rice was cold and the server never return to the dining room after serving our meal. So we walk up to the front door and once it's open, I just see a slew of poker tAbles full of men gambling and they all look over at me, wondering what the hell I was doing. Not sure why, but my first reaction was to get out and the shut the door. It was even more pathetic when I had to walk back in because the restaurant is in the back of the "casino" aka a poker game going on in someone's house that's legal. The food was pretty delicious! I was extremely surprised since it looked like it was a very casual dining experience. We had the caprese salad, the ahi salad, and another salad (a lot of salad, I know) and they were all delicious. I also noticed that they had drinks made with top notch alcohols for much cheaper than what I've seen. The service was wonderful, the food was wonderful. I must start by saying the only reason I am giving The Patio two stars is because of the waitress we had. She was very nice and provided good service. Now this is the point where I feel really bad for that nice waitress because the food she has to serve is dreadful. I know I was physically at The Patio but I felt like I could have easily been at a state-run, elderly care facility. The menu is all over the place with a Vietnamese, Italian, Mexican, and classic American sections. Just pick one and do it well. I ordered the tri-tip sandwich and it was very obviously microwaved and tasted off. It wasn't inedible but it was certainly not pleasant. My girlfriend got the seared ahi tacos, which were more like the pre-cooked, frozen, then blasted in a microwave ahi tacos. They had a cloyingly sweet sauce on them and we're on quite possibly the smallest tortillas I've ever seen. Overall impression: avoid, danger Will Robinson! Came to The Patio to have breakfast on Sunday morning. Called ahead to make sure they were still serving it and they said as long as we arrived by 11:30 we'd be good. We arrived around 11:25 and the hostess confirmed we could still order breakfast and got us seated outside w/ our breakfast menus. We asked for an umbrella because it was really hot/sunny but nobody ever came to put it up- so we ended up doing it ourselves. (STRIKE 1) 10 long minutes later, our server came to take our order and informed us that we couldn't order breakfast because it was after 11:30... UGH! (STRIKE 2) We decided to stay since we were already there and order "lunch". We ordered 2 peach crisp desserts, 2 mimosas, a sandwich, and an artichoke appetizer. The food was OK. The peach crisp was MUSHY, WATERY and gross- topped with a pinch of oats. (STRIKE 2.5) Not once (in over an hour) did the waitress come and check on us, ask us how things were, or refill our water (or mimosas). We decided to cut it short and leave because it was getting irritating and a little ridiculous. We waited, some of us standing ready to leave, and nobody came with our bill. Finally, I had to walk inside to the hostess and tell her that we were ready to leave. It took at least another 5 minutes for the waitress to come out with it. She didn't ask how things were, but instead said "you guys are my only table out here, I feel like I'm neglecting you- im sorry about that.". Needless to say, there was no $ Tip. Such a strange location for a restaurant, but it works for me. I've been to the Patio on a couple occasions, and each time it has been very nice. The highlights for me, are the Friday night prime rib dinner. I believe it's about $14.95. Also, anything off the Vietnamese menu is great. The prices were remarkably reasonable. The booze was varied. I even tried the bacon maple cupcake and darnit if it wasn't fantastic. This place was definitely a pleasant surprise. Went to watch the 49ers destroy the Bills on Sunday, 10-7-12. The Patio is great! Our server was Diana and she was very attentive. At 3p they started serving $3 pints of Firestone DBA and another non-Coors/Bud light brew (which was delicious). We also bought the $10 for $20 Yelp coupon before going in (I highly recommend this if the deal is still on). What sold me on visiting the Patio were other Yelper reviews that told of individual speakers brought to your table so you could listen to the game of your choice. How cool is that? We started with Bloody Mary's (pretty good), had a couple beers & ordered the hot wings (6 of the Hot & 6 of the 'Atomic' or whatever they called it). The wings were OK - the sauce was pretty heavy & I could have done with about 2/3's of the sauce. Summary: Sunday football - be here. Great service, full bar, good beer on tap, plenty of TV's and one projector projecting on a large drop down screen. Food was so/so, but I've only had the wings. The server actually brought out my hash browns and asked if they were done enough and took them back to cook longer. After a bit she brought out my beautiful veggie omelette and super crispy hash browns. Perfection! The veggies in my omelette were crisp and flavorful. My husband had the chicken fried steak, which he found delicious. Posole seemed to be the thing to order though, multiple people around us had that and it looked delicious. It's in an odd location, tucked behind a casino and surrounded by car dealerships but it's worth a trip and just expect to drive by and miss it the first time. The aptly named restaurant boasts a great patio with ample seating firepits, tables, and sofas. Additionally, they play great music and you can catch nearly any game on their countless tvs. The menu simple and the prices are inexpensive ($4 mimosas and $7 custom omelettes). Everything we've had had been delicious - my favorite has been the Heuvos Ranchos. We've gone to brunch there 3 times and have never been disappointed. Was hoping for some decent chow when I found they had an Asian chef on staff for the lunch menu.... The Vietnamese Pho bowl (recommended by the ectomorphic female bartender) consisted of cold vermicelli noodles topped with reheated greasy bacon left-overs from breakfast and burnt meat strips, decorated with ground nuts and some OK cooked shrimp. Sent it back. Pulled pork was OLD, dry, chewy and the sauce was 75% vinegar. Sent it back. Bloody Mary was good. Iced tea was also good. Walked out hungry, but went two blocks over to the traveling Hot Dog cart (Oh My Gosh Hot Dogs) and downed a good ole' bacon (fresh)wrapped Nathan's frankfurter. So much better... UPDATE: Came back here in 2016 while waiting for an oil change at the dealership. Tried the hash and it was great! So I recommend sticking with breakfast here. I guess it's always a gamble (get it?) to try something new, and I had heard good things about the Patio so my boyfriend and I came here for Friday night dinner. Didn't order drinks, just an appetizer (mozzarella sticks) and he had the burger, I had fish tacos. Atmosphere had a weird vibe, clearly still looks like a dealership showroom with beach scene photos all around - the bar did look nice. Table was so sticky I had to put my napkin over it, the way was fuzzy, and the whole time there were people swarming in and out of the room. Service was average, nice and prompt but nothing to make it memorable. Live music was going on which again, added to the weirdness of the room - especially with a pretty much empty dining room, I felt bad for the girl playing. Overall the food was ok, not particularly good but not awful. I asked my boyfriend about the burger and all he said was "well it had cheese on it...". Fish tacos were tasty, but tiny. Even plating them with some chips and salsa would make it better, but them coming out on a tiny app plate just comes off depressing. All in all, this place is out of the way for us, lack luster ambiance and mediocre food. For $40 we can get a better experience elsewhere, but I guess if you are in the area getting your car serviced, its worth a stop by for an app or a beer. read more
