I had a layover in Austin and stopped here for lunch. I tried the Korean steak bowl and was seriously underwhelmed with the flavor. I've had quite a bit of Korean food all over the place and this steak did not have a traditional Korean flavor that I'm familiar with. Even the pickled onions tasted a bit strange. Since this is airport food I would venture to guess the brick and mortar locations are better. The arugula was plentiful and the avocado was fresh but It looked a lot better then it tasted. This place was very good ... it's rare to find good food in airports. I had a ton of time before my AUS-DTW flight home yesterday so I went venturing around. I had seen a few local-type eateries when I arrived at AUS on Monday, and I chose the Peached Tortilla. You can get two tacos for $9, and they are quite large. I had the Korean BBQ taco, which was very good, and the Banh Mi taco, which was a bit too spicy for me ... the pork belly was a bit too fatty, too, although that is usually the norm with pork belly. I should have taken the hint when Yelp said this place was closed while it was actually open. Went to order the banh mi bowl and outta pork belly. Ok I'll take the steak, nope outta that too. Airport food is typically the bane of my existence. Despite Bergstrom getting quite a few new food joints inside the main terminal, many of the eateries still have that "this was made in an airport with low quality / fast food ingredients" taste despite being labeled that of popular local spots around time. Fortunately, The Peached Tortilla is one of those local joints that is able to maintain some level of quality despite being locked behind those ironclad TSA checkpoints. I've tried every one of their tacos and they're all great. They don't leave your mouth with a weird greasy feeling that many other airport food stops have and for the most part they execute well on the Asian fusion flavor that'd you expect from Bulgogi, pork belly, or Korean steak. $4 per taco is pretty par for the course and they honestly load the tacos relatively well. 2 tacos for breakfast / light meal, 3 if you're really hungry = getting a meal at the airport for $8 - 12 which is more than reasonable (and if anything, comparable to eating outside of the airport in Austin now). My only gripe is that some of their meats are just a tad too salty, and their overall options could be a little more expansive but it's something I can easily live with especially considering there aren't too many comparable places within those limited gates. Though to be fair, they did just open a massive new section in the main terminal at AUS so there could be some strong new eateries opening soon! Regardless, The Peached Tortilla will always be one of my go-to spots if I need to grab a quick bite before flying out; you should make sure to do the same! read more

While it is often understood that the caliber of food in an airport does not rival its brick and mortar counterpart, these tacos missed the mark. This was the first meal I had in Austin. Fresh off the plane, I was super hungry and looking for a quick bite. I found this place and decided to go for it. I wanted something on the healthy side and I thought the Cauliflower Bowl with the Arugula instead of Rice option would be just right and it pretty much was..... Without any prior knowledge, and basing assumptions on its name alone, my first impression of it was a Tex-Mex of some kind. But then the more I went into their menu, I felt it more leaning toward some sort of Asian fusion. There is a line, so I figure it has somewhat of a following. I'm gonna fault myself for not reading the menu more thoroughly. I told my cashier I wanted the Pad Thai and ONLY realized then that it's either served on rice or a bed of arugula ONLY. I was confused for a minute: isn't Pad Thai primarily noodles?! Too hungry to care, I opted for the rice. Presentation was good, packaging was good. You must ask for chopsticks since it's not available with the condiments, napkins and utensils. VERDICT: there was NOTHING Pad Thai about this. It's basically chicken sautéed with mushroom and some kind of soy glaze, topped with green onions and cilantro, 45-minute egg (sous vide) and a side of bean sprouts. (TONS of bean sprouts... like half the bowl was occupied by bean sprouts...) It wasn't horrible, don't get me wrong, (the mushrooms were really the saving grace for this plate) but if my palate is fixated on Pad Thai and I order a Pad Thai, I expect to get some kind of Pad Thai experience frolicking on my taste buds. This bowl absolutely failed at that. And I'm not sure why they bothered with a sous vide egg. Soft boiled or poached or fried would have sufficed. (Not a fan of cilantro, but totally my fault for not asking them not to add it. Just didn't expect it to be THAT much.) FOOD: 3 (Because it wasn't too bad for something I didn't want.) The Peached Tortilla is one of the better food options in the Austin airport, for both breakfast and lunch (or light dinner). I have found my personal favorite to be the cauliflower bowl. The smell is a bit strong when you open it, but the overall flavors lead to a satisfying experience, especially when topped with a few drops of Yellowbird Habanero to kick things up a notch. If you are a strong believer in having meat with every meal, I've tried the Korean Steak, Egg, & Cheese breakfast taco and found the steak quality to be decent. Servers are nice and welcoming for an airport location in departures. The banh mi bowl I ordered was nothing like a Vietnamese sandwich. I got it with the arugula since people on here didn't like the soggy uncle Ben's type rice. I think if any chef on the food channel tried this they would have thrown it in the trash. The pork belly was like a salty pulled pork and the arugula was swimming in a vinegary soy sauce mixture at the bottom. The only thing Asian about this bowl was the marinated daikon and carrots.
