Walking in you feel like you entered a pub. Noisy, but not enough to prevent a conversation. Darker with interesting decor. Not a dive bar or Americana bar by any means. Booths are comfy, otherwise the wooden chairs aren't much to speak of. Plenty of TVs to watch your favorite sports team. Food...well that seems to be an issue. I have gone during lunch, dinner, and late at night. Every time the wings are great...but everything else is inconsistent. Mozzarella sticks are good, but the marinara sauce is too watery some days and too meaty other days. Sandwiches are a pretty average affair, large and ingredients seem fresh enough, but nothing that stands out taste-wise. Many times friend items are overdone, then the next week fried food isn't even cooked all the way through (poppers and friend pickles for this example). If it wasn't for the wings, there wouldn't be much worthwhile outside of alcoholic beverages. The waiters, waitress, and barkeeps are all friendly enough, but are typically extremely busy on a weekend night. This place is always busy and there's a good reason why. The atmosphere is fun and laid back. You can come to watch sports or to just hang out. The wings are to die for. When you order, keep in mind that a wing is the whole freaking wing-3 parts, so order less than you would any other place where you only get one part of each wing. Recently came here for a work event. They were expecting about half of the number of people that actually showed up. So they were a bit overwhelmed in the beginning. We took over about half of the restaurant. But the staff ultimate got in a groove and they were amazing. They worked their asses off getting us drinks and food. I know they were not expecting such a busy Wednesday night. But if they can take on such a big crowd at the last minute I am sure they can truly proved amazing service on a normal night. read more

I've never eaten at a Peanut before, but had always heard good things about their wings (of course). Decided it was time - sat at the bar on a somewhat busy Thursday, and the service was great. The wings took about 15-20 minutes to come out, as the menu warns, and were huge. They're the full wings, so half-dozen is really like a dozen...and a big dozen at that. It seems they come with one default sauce, which smells very spicy, but tastes only slightly spicy to me (as a spice lover). But they were meaty, juicy, flavorful...awesome. We went to one downtown - but I don't know the address so I ain't reviewing it! I have been to this one several times so here goes nothing. It is disgusting and divey and fabulous and wonderful and I wouldn't change a thing. I took some girlfriends here for lunch labor day weekend. They were horrified - well one was - the other one actively enjoyed the greasy menu and the dark interior. When I said this was the fancy one friend #1 was even more horrified. They have the best BLTs ever. Their wings are hot and spicy and huge! Decent beer selection. Really, it is your basic dive bar with great food. There are times when you don't want to dress up, want to worry about where your shoes are going, and don't care if you haven't washed or combed your hair for a week - and that is when you go to the peanut. Favorite chicken wings in town. Always fresh but you have to wait 20 minutes. Small price to pay for freshly fried chicken wings everytime. In addition, they just make all around solid bar food. The Peanut is a standard dive, nothing more beyond that. They had mediocre HH specials that go until 6pm - $3 Boulevard beers (minus the Smokestack series), $4 3 Olives vodka, $3 wells. There weren't a whole lot of interesting beers on tap for my hipster craft-y taste. No food on HH, but when we went they had select burgers for only $6. I have to say my medium burger was cooked rather well-done but for 6 bucks I don't think I have the right to complain that much... I will give a shout-out to those monstrous wings, though. My friend described them as "the whole wing - shoulder and all." This is an accurate description, folks! I happen to not be a wings kinda gal but I imagine if I were I'd be in wing heaven. I was hoping that with such a fun quirky name, The Peanut would've delivered a little more spunk but I found it fairly plain (aside from the wings). I hate to say it, but it has a chain-y feel to it, and there are so many other more unique places for HH in OP that I can't see myself opting for the Peanut over any of those instead. I have to agree with what Aimee wrote previously. This place is the definition of a hole in the wall. It's very unassuming and kind of hidden in the strip mall. I doubt anyone would find this on accident. If I had, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have eaten here because the atmosphere isn't great. It's a typical bar dive. It was recommended to me by someone who grew up in the area and once he found out that I loved buffalo wings he said I had to stop by before I left. He said we should split a BLT and also split a dozen wings. It was a great call. I don't think I've ever ordered a BLT anywhere before. This one was really good and I could tell the lettuce and tomato was fresh. Bacon was perfect. The wings are huge and would definitely be one of the top 5 best buffalo wings that I've had. The sauce is tangy and spicy and the chicken was very well seasoned. They were paired with Peanut's homemade blue cheese which was a great compliment. I LOVE the wings here! Here's what you need to know: 1. They only have 1 sauce. Compared to Buffalo WW sauce, it is thinner/not as creamy, and is more peppery. I really like it! 2. Each buffalo wing has both the drumstick and "wing", so getting a dozen of these is literally 2 dozen of the BWW version. The Peanut also has larger wings, so it ends up being about 130% more food per "wing" than BWW. I usually eat 18 from BWW, and 7 from the Peanut fills me up! I honestly haven't eaten anything else here, so I can only comment on the wings. The staff has always seemed friendly when I spoke with them. I usually get take-out, but I like the atmosphere inside (127th and Metcalf location). read more

Nice little neighborhood bar on 127th. Since the original owner sold to Tanners and they were able to remodel this place, it's really gone through a transformation. The chairs no longer all have ripped fabric, there are a row of booths on one wall and they replaced the concrete floor with carpet. Not to mention the abundance of flat screens. Still the same great Peanut food and service though. Very strong drinks too I might add, a good thing. read more

The only reason I give 4 stars and not 5 is because I have not had a chance to try much of the food, aside from picking off the plates from people around me if they're full and offer it to the rest of us. (For the record though, when I have, it has been pretty tasty, nothing to write home about- typical pub-esque food but done right.) However, this bar often has really great specials, the service is always friendly, and my favorite part is that they have a BINGO night on Sundays, which is tons of fun if you have a group that wants to do something fun on a Sunday night. This is one of the smaller, but in my opinion better bars in the Overland Park area. The main reason for this is because of their monstrous chicken wings, that I feel like have to come from small turkey's, based on how huge they are. Hands down, some of the best wings I've ever had in my life. Includes the full wing with some awesome buffalo sauce. With that being said, it is a hole in the wall bar. Kind of smells like stale booze when you walk in. Bathrooms aren't the cleanest. Grungy people at the bar staring at you when you walk in. Staff isn't the most friendly, especially if they are busy because there is only usually one person working the front. Went there with my son and my boyfriend. Yes, the wings looked good, wasn't in the mood for spicy food so I didn't order any, I wish I would have. My son and boyfriend got the blt with extra bacon. They were not impressed with the shredded cheese on it (really, wth?), I got the rueben and it was gross. I'm a huge rueben fan and they didn't do it any justice. I think the wings would have been good. Our bill was almost $60 with tip. We ordered chips and salsa, 2 blts, 2 cocktails, 1 ruben and 1 regular drink. I don't think the price tag was worth what we got. Again, the wings looked awesome and that's what everyone was eating, wish I would have went with that. read more

A return spot for sure! I am a regular so I'm a little biased, I've been coming here at least twice a week for over a year. I have to say, the wings are amazing, a bit spicy for my taste but packed with flavor. The chicken caesar wrap is off the chain! I recommend getting fries as a side, it's just $1.79 for a side (they usually offer cottage cheese or chips). I recommend coming in on a Sunday or Monday, that's when Mike Peppard is behind the bar. He's a great bartender and will always have good conversation. Saturday is when Danya is bartending, and she is one heck of a mixologist! If you're going to go to the Peanut, go for the wings. Like many other reviewers on here have stated - they are fantastic, and they're actually chicken wings, not the tiny little drummies you get everywhere else. The BLT is pretty decent as well, but if you've never been the Peanut and love wings - go there now. There is nothing fancy about this place, but it's been slightly upgraded from the dive it used to be. Luckily the wing recipe hasn't changed. Positives: -Best wings ever. Seriously. -Laid back, casual dive bar atmosphere. Watched the last Superbowl here and had a blast -Decent drink specials - $6.50 PBR pitchers! Negatives: -Small place, but I don't think we've ever not found a place to sit. -Food can take awhile, but just enjoy a beer or two while you're waiting. The Peanut in Overland Park never fails to satisfy. I've had several things there and they're always good. I'm a fan of their burgers, and their wings are excellent (although they take some time to cook, they are worth the wait). The only questionable item I've had was their pork tenderloin. It was a little on the overcooked side, and was pretty greasy. Their chili is good on a cold day, and their onion rings are a great appetizer while you're waiting for your wings to arrive. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and it's usually very clean. The portion size for the price is good, and there are plenty of televisions to find something you're interested in. read more

The hype is real. I heard about the wings and had to try them. The menu says in a dozen you can pick two sauces. So I ask what sauces they have. Only one: classic Buffalo. They serve the whole wing and 6 was the perfect amount for a huge dinner. 5 would have been enough. I'd rather a place have one sauce and do it right than gave 20 okay sauces. I visited The Peanut one Sunday evening for the music trivia bingo game. I enjoyed decor and found myself getting lost in the historic photos and various sporting/hunting items that were displayed in the restaurant. The store was nice and clean (including the restroom). My server Kelsi was very attentive, friendly, and helpful. I enjoyed an appetizer of Chili-cheese-fries. They were very nice and they were a huge portion. I almost got the large size, but I was warned against it by my sharp thinking waitress. I had a really good evening out with some friends and I think I will be back here again soon. read more

I have not been to the Peanut in 12 years; you read that right 12 long years! The restaurant has been upgraded with newer everything. The food is the same as I remembered....awesome! We ordered 6 wings with blue cheese and the portabella sandwich. Yummy! The wings were perfect with the right amount of pepper in the batter and the hot wing sauce was great. The blue cheese dipping sauce is amazing. The portabella is the very moist with cream cheese, red onions and bell peppers. I would skip the fries, they are just average. I knew we should have turned around when we walked up to the door and an EMPLOYEE was smoking not even 5 feet from the door. We ordered mozzarella sticks to start. I really wish they would have told me the marinara was homemade. I don't know why they called it marinara because it basted nothing like any marinara I've ever had. We tried it once and couldn't keep eating it. We ordered chili cheese fries and they were unlike any other. Didn't even taste like chili. Tasted (and looked) like they had just poured ground beef on top and added a smidge of shredded cheese. What's worse - the ground beef was so greasy, I think they forgot to drain it. Add all this to a less than personable waitress who didn't smile once the whole meal. Tables are also all on top of each other it's hard to walk through.
