Drive a mile off the freeway for an outstanding meal in a very friendly, delicious local restaurant! We were driving from Dallas to Houston and wanted to avoid all the monotonous road food chains. We saw the Pharm and decided to try it. Where we pleased! Super friendly staff in a cozy setting. The menu featured all the usual small town diner fare--chicken fried steak, hamburger steak, chef salad--but also tilapia and salmon. I had a steak, with okra and greens. The veggies were very fresh and plentiful and the steak nicely cooked. They came with outstanding fresh and very soft dinner rolls and all the other trimmings. This is one of the best restaurants my wife &I have ever eaten at. My wife ordered the steak and it was cooked to perfection. I had the BBQ sausage which tasted soon marvelous. Friendly service in quintessential Texas roadhouse. We were driving the last leg of our NY to TX post-college trip down 79S from Marshall to Austin and stopped for late lunch about 2p on a Saturday. Place was full with families, couples, construction workers ... quite a mix. Someone hunts, as there are multiple impressive mounts adding to the decor of light up bar signs, etc. Welcome/thanks sign for veterans reminded us we were back in Texas. Special was chicken Dumplings--yumm. Fried okra great too, along w/ chicken fried steak--they even had a small portion option (which was too big for me). Really enjoyed this spot! read more

I have to admit that I thought previous reviewers were probably being too generous for this restaurant to have as high a rating as they do but after eating here I feel I have found a true treasure! I plan to drop by here as often as I can. Yummy! The liver and onions was good, macaroni and cheese best I had lately and fried okra delicious. Our waitress told us that these are made from The owners personal recipes. Started to get banana pudding but decided on Buttermilk pie instead. Even got a blueberry bread pudding to go. Breakfast in the morning will bring sweet reminders of a delicious lunch! read more

Ernie's Pharm is not particularly convenient unless you live in Buffalo, Texas or you are traveling between the Dallas/Fort Worth area and Houston. If that's you, try to time your travels for a stop at this place. You will not be disappointed. When traveling I look for the following in a place to eat: Interesting menu, well-prepared food, cleanliness, good service and a fair price. You've got to hit most of the above for me to be motivated enough to write a review. Ernie's Pharm scored perfect. Moreover, the friendliness of the staff surpasses what anyone would expect from a little cafe in a small town in Texas. We decided to do our best to sample the menu and were able to taste the fish (incredibly done with a lightly fried cornmeal batter and super-moist meat - likely catfish), short ribs (genuinely smoked with meat falling off the bone), a butterflied chicken breast, grilled and basted in a light marinade, turnip greens done according to southern rules, and, stated categorically, the best fried green tomatoes I've ever tasted. I consider myself an aficionado of FGT's, so this comment does not come easily. Others have commented on the homemade rolls, which come ad lib, so you better be prepared to decline the seconds and/or thirds. Desserts are homemade but had to be deferred until later due to our decision to stop the feasting and get back on the road. read more

Went to The Pharm Restaurant for the first time this evening with a party of 10, fantastic. (We drive 37 miles) All the waitstaff was very friendly & helped locate a table for us. Our waitress was Jennifer & she was absolutely genuine, she was patient, very familiar with the menu , & made some great recommendations. Our tea glasses were kept full & she checked on everyone constantly asking if the food was good or do we need anything. The atmosphere was great & casual with the best home style cooking. Definitely recommend this restaurant. As we were leaving 3 other staff members ask how our visit was and for us to come back. read more

Oh my gosh the filet was delicious! You get a salad rolls with yummy cinnamon butter then your meal with two vegetables. So full.

We had a great dinner. The service was superb and the food delicious! We had fried catfish which was only made better by the fried okra and potatoes. My wife and I traveled thru Buffalo on our way to Nacogdoches and stopped at The Pharm Restaurant for lunch. The restaurant has a rustic decor and is very clean. We were seated quickly and our waitress Tammy was very attentive. My wife and I both had the chicken fried steak with onion rings (she the small portion and me the "regular"). The steak was EXCELLENT!!!! It was perfectly fried, flavorful, and served hot with plenty of gravy. The "regular" is 8 ounces of steak....I barely finished it, so be warned that it is a lot of steak! The onion rings were out-of-this-world good!!! Best i have had in a long, long time. They were fresh-made, steaming hot out of the fryer with a thin, crispy batter...just the way I like it. The onions inside were soft, creamy, and very flavorful. We are served the BEST fresh, hot yeast rolls just out of the over with a wonderful cinnamon butter. Overall a great lunch experience - -- good food, good service and at a more than fair price. What more can you ask for!! read more

What a fantastic experience full of southern hospitality. We met Jennifer the owner and listening to live music (Thurs-Sat nights). The burgers are amazing (fat & fresh) and steaks are grilled on open flame pit in the back by her son. I will definitely eat there anytime I'm in the area. On our way from Houston to Dallas, which we travel pretty often, we happened to be around Buffalo at lunchtime. Looked up restaurants and this one had good reviews, they were spot on! This is a great place! Food was fantastic, I had the grilled shrimp with green beans and sweet potato, YUM! Will definitely stop here again! Service was great, everyone was friendly, waitress was awesome, true Texas hospitality. And... talk about honest - I left my purse and did not realize it until I got to our destination almost 2 hrs later. Decided to try this place after reading the reviews. 5 stars are deserved! The staff is friendly and service was fast, just what we needed mid point in our trip. Food is great! Food was decent... Atmosphere was hostile. My friends and I were traveling through and saw this place had great reviews, so we decided to drive into town to eat here instead of settling for the fast food chain. Immediately when we pulled in we realized we were out of place. Everyone there was truck driving rednecks, and my friends, who are covered in tattoos, and driving a sports car, immediately got looks when we pulled in. When we walked in you could hear a pen drop. The entire place stopped eating and was looking at us at the front door, finally a voice from the back of the restaurant yelled, "sit where y'all like." Once we sat down people started eating and talking again, but it was honestly something out of the movies, it was just missing the record scratch noise. read more

Terrific country cooking joint in the main drag in Buffalo. Hot rolls and cinnamon butter got us off to a good start. I had the special, hamburger steak w onions. My son had a cheeseburger and my wife and daughter had grilled chicken plates. Only complaint: the girls said the chicken was too salty for their tastes. But the sides were excellent. The service was ok but the wait time was quite long. We stopped just passing through town to get a to go burger and it took 30 minutes, and only about 1/2 the restaurant was full with plenty of staff. The fries were good but the burgers were very charred. Tasted like they were made on a charcoal grill and were left on a little too long. Very dry. And for 2 burgers and 2 fried the total was $22. It may be an ok sit down place but not a quick or cheap meal. read more

I've eaten here a few times. Overall, not bad, but not great. Their sides are very good (green beans were excellent, mashed potatoes and loaded mashed potatoes, corn etc.). I ordered the rib-eye for the first time, and i was expecting better. They claim that the steaks are grilled over mesquite, but i couldn't detect any smoke flavor, which tends to make me think it was broiled on a grill in an oven, or fried on a flat top. Also, the ribeye quality tasted like it was the "select" variety, not "choice", and certainly not "prime". From a doneness standpoint, it was perfectly cooked as I ordered it (medium). But overall, the ribeye was no better than anything you can get at Western Sizzlin, Ryan's or similar cheap chain steakhouses. read more

Stopped here on the way back to Houston from Dallas and was blown away. It definitely has a small town feel, very cozy. Waitresses were sweet as could be and the food was WONDERFUL! The rolls were sinfully good and I normally don't order steak when I go out because I am very particular when it comes to steak, but the one I got at Ernie's was perfection, one of the best steaks I've ever had! The cakes were homemade and you could taste the difference. We will definitely have to make this a regular stop on our monthly trips to Dallas! read more

After many trips through buffalo, we finally found THE PLACE to eat! The Pharm is incredible! The people are so friendly, service was impeccable, and the food was amazing! We had burgers, fries, onion rings and the club on marbled rye - everything was wonderful and I am very difficult to please! We finished the meal with banana pudding, and it was the perfect end to a great experience. I wish we lived closer, I would frequent all the time! I loved it!! My husband, 2 year old daughter and I just stopped for lunch here on our way to Houston from Dallas. It's what 'home cooking' is supposed to be and I wish anything I cooked came close to what they serve. The staff and patrons were all so friendly and their interaction left us with a lovely impression of the Buffalo community. Everyone hugged and smiled and seemed at home. My daughter ate from our plates and gobbled up everything we gave her which was a mix of chicken strips, loaded mashed potatoes, fried okra, mac n cheese, grillled tilapia and green beans. For dessert we had the buttermilk pie which was heaven on a plate and my husband had the banana pudding. The banana puddling had the silkiest, creamiest texture either of us had ever tasted and the flavor was rich and complex. While we are excited to visit family in Houston we will likely visit them more often just so we can have lunch at The Pharm. So good!! read more

We went there yesterday as a halfway point between The Woodlands and Dallas. The staff was beyond accommodating and made our first experience wonderful. I had the chicken fried steak and it was delicious! I also tried the steak and it was out of this world! The owner even took the time to visit with us. You don't find many places like that anymore. The Pharm has to be one of, if not the best restaurant we have ever eaten at. They have the best battered fried shrimp and catfish we've ever had. All the sides made fresh and are so flavorful. The rolls and the cinnamon butter, well just stick a fork in me and call me done. And let's not forget our desserts, banana pudding and blueberry bread pudding. So yummy!!! I wanted to eat it all, but my poor body wouldn't let me. The portions are huge and the price is so affordable. We are two Houstonians, with an abundance of restaurants that don't even come close to the amazing food of the Pharm. Meeting Jennifer the owner was such a treat and she treated us just like family. Amazing food and conversations. I know we will be back many many more times. Now we are waiting for the forklifts to come pick us up out of these chairs because we can't move lol.
