I visited last month on a recommendation from my husband, who follows the pickleball community online. When I first checked the website to reserve an open play spot, it was a little confusing: Level 1: Beginners (newbies and advanced beginners); there aren't many options for these sessions in the morning. Level 2: 3.0 and up (intermediate to advanced). This is the level my husband and I played, and we were right on par with the other players. Level 3: The advanced-elite level. Overall, we had fun from check-in to check-out and even walked away with some great T-shirt swag. I was so happy I didn't have to pack my own paddle since I could rent a Selkirk Broomstick Elongated there.

Don't get me wrong, I like Pickle Ranch. And I'm no expert in pickleball…read more Pros: Music is fun and lively. Plenty of courts to go around. Seems consistently clean and amenities are fine. Cons: Maybe not so much cons, I just think APR has become a bit stagnant compared to East Side Paddle Club. ESPC is cheaper, with more courts, and just as many events, clinics, and open plays. ESPC also has family plan, which is very nice on the wallet. Level of play seems more challenging at ESPC compared to APR, and just generally more buzz. Still very solid place to pay, I just think they need to be more innovative or come down in price.

I really don't understand why the quarries isn't graded with five stars. This recreation center…read moresits in the midst of a huge complex that includes a church, a high school, and athletic complex, a sports field for the high school, a recreation center and this is the second year we have experienced The Quarries Camps. The campus surrounds a beautiful lake where kayaking and canoeing and fishing all provide fun, while the view of a lake that looks like it's capped in shimmering glass is really special! So I'm now going to focus on the Quarry Camp-and I may open a Yelp location separate for the Camps -(yep -they have multiple camps available). Since my grandsons have been to Quarry Camp two years consecutively it is the one we have the most experience with. They make it very easy to register, sign waivers, choose if you want a full week or to come in whatever days you prefer. I found the cost to be less than many other camps and more than a few camps in our area. I wanted to lock down the weeks we needed early, as our grandson had specifically requested to return here this year. (They did end up offering a discount for booking early and even though we had booked prior to the offer, they didn't hesitate to send me a check for $40 which was the discount amount -immediately after the discount was offered.) Here is a description of the activities included in a full week at Quarry Camp. MONDAY-is a day spent at the camp itself. Getting your child settled in -meet their specific group camp counselors, learn the sign in -sign out process-and most importantly take advantage of the ability to give cash for snacks which they put on a card that can then be used based on your specifications. For example we felt $2 a day was enough for the snack bar daily-so we gave them a $10 bill asking he only be allowed to spend $2/day and they take it from there. The kids have free play the first couple hours in the humongous gymnasium, complete with a large bouncy house in one area, lots of basketballs and hoops, soccer balls etc. After lunch they go up to the "Game Room" which is one of the rooms available upstairs that has pool tables, multiple televisions, air hockey and more. TUESDAY-they all get on a bus and go to a different building with in the compound for a movie , popcorn and a soft drink. After lunch gym play and game room and they go down to the snack bar about 45 minutes before camp ends at 4PM. WEDNESDAY-is water park day! A favorite of all the kids. They can wear or bring appropriate swimwear and water shoes and lots of sunscreen is encouraged. Typhoon Texas is a large water park in Austin. They provide lunch on Wednesday catered at the water park by "Raising Canes" Chicken fingers, fries and tea or lemonade. The kids had a blast with a couple hours available before and after lunch so the kids had plenty of time to experience it all. THURSDAY-is jump park day. A trip to Altitude is in order. Child centered play, with Free time built in. Game Room and Gym when you return. FRIDAY-is a fun filled day which wraps up the week! A picnic, then play along the shoreline of the lake as well as kayaking and canoeing . Some general info: The size of the groups the kids are divvied into (based on age) is manageable and they have adequate staff assigned to each group-however they all work well together for larger activities. Kudo's to the Counselor Team, helpful, -smiling-always cheerfully greeting the child when they arrive in the mornings. We've not experienced any team member that didn't seem happy to be there! The kids bring a water bottle daily along with their lunch-the exception being Wednesday when they have a catered lunch at the water park . Camp hours are 0800-1600 however there is flexibility so coming late or leaving early is permissible. If you want to attend all the group outings you do need to be there by 0930 as that is when the bus leaves. This camp provides a safe, enjoyable camp experience and I'm guessing I will get a request to return next year !!!! Definitely a Five Star experience for our family!

Well, I never thought I'd be the one writing a pickleball review but hey! here I am!…read more Pickleball Kingdom was my first experience ever with pickleball. I'm honored to say this is where my humble beginnings arose because now I can't stop thinking about it. In fact, I already bought the shoes, the paddle, the backpack, the balls--I'll stop. PK was special in the fact that the culture was super laid back and the vibes were high. I went for an Open Play on a weekend and it was incredible to see how much mingling we could achieve within 2 hours. I played with at least 6 people on my team! As a first timer, I met two first timers and it was awesome to see how quickly we learned and everyone was a supportive coach to us. I truly don't think there could have been a better group of 17 of us. The cost is not bad for a single play ($6.50 for this specific event on President's Day). And memberships range drastically depending on how often you want to play. If I lived nearby, I would absolutely pay for a membership! The staff was decent -- I wish they weren't so stiff about timing for future events. For example, we had to wait a bit for the catered lunch group to exit but when the next group came in after us, we got a very strict 15 min. warning. Whatever! Didn't kill our vibe. Get ready to sweat if it's your first time -- I burned 633+ calories! Will be back!!

At no time was my husband or I notified of an incident occurring at the facility or during art class. Rob McDonald and Whitney Seaton both employees of the Rec facility assumed I was aware of the situation solely based on speculation that my aunt who was caring for my daughter while I was away on business had been able to get a hold of me. The first time I heard from any party was when Rob McDonald called my cell phone to tell me the outcome or determination for my daughter's enrollment in the class. Rob called and stated my daughter could no longer attend art class at their facility. Rob and Whitney did not call us as parents to inform us of the incident or to tell us that you all would need to speak to all parties involved like my daughter or the other party BEFORE coming to a decision. They spoke to the other party ONLY and decided based on that one party. Due to the other party involved being Caucasian and us being minorities this does make the situation feel race related. It does cause my husband and I to feel like there are grounds for a civil suit for discrimination. Not only did you all reprimand my daughter, but you all allowed a white entitled father to also reprimand her. You all failed my daughter and did not keep her safe. Pflugerville Parks and Recreation Dept as a whole needs new procedures and policies in place to protect other children of color from discrimination like what my daughter was subjected to. You all are at fault for how this situation was handled. Young Rembrandts and the Pflugerville Parks and Recreation facility decided based on a "she said" scenario without communicating with all parties involved and doing an actual investigation. Our daughter was traumatized and terrified by the father that approached her. Rob and Whitney continue to word things like you aren't privy to what occurred at the facility entrance and framing things as if he approached my aunt and daughter. Please do not minimize or attempt to downplay what that father did. He walked up to my 8-year-old black daughter, and he said, "Did we have a problem today?" My then terrified 8-year-old responded to him and began to explain herself. This is a situation that no child should ever find themselves in. I will not stand for any injustices. I do not recommend this facility if you are a minority.

You walk…read moreinto the Rec Center at any given time and and you'll see retirees mingling, moms walking the track with their babies, young people playing basketball ... It's definitely an aging facility that doesn't boast the latest in exercise equipment, but we have those places around. Here's what I love: $2/hour child care, and it's GOOD -- people who seem to love kids are taking care of them. $1 walking track -- you can't beat that for a walking alternative when it's too hot, cold or rainy. Finally, great programming -- the swim lessons at Gilleland Creek, gymnastics for kids -- again, taught by kind, loving and knowledgable instructors. I really feel like this is a special gem that gives me the warm "pfuzzies" about Pflugerville! :)
