I do not write reviews unless they're really bad or really good. This was really freaking bad. I had lived in Reading, PA for two years frequenting the Pike a lot and loved it. Came back a year later and had AWFUL bartenders who were so rude and rolled their eyes at us as well as took my entire cash as their "tip" when I wanted to pay with a gift card and finish off with cash. I should've asked for it back but wanted to get out as quickly as possible. It makes me sad because this place used to have such good food and even better service and these bartenders were so rude that I didn't even want to stay longer than one drink. This place is a hole-in-the-wall. It's a little small and the restrooms could use some attention, but the food was amazing! I got the scallop appetizer, and it was 100% better and larger than the fancy restaurant I was at the night before. I would go back again! read more

In for Almost Queen at the Santander Performing arts center and found this local gem on Yelp. I enjoyed a fresh salad to start that came wtih my dungeness crab ravioli. The pasta was in a sundried tomato cream sauce and topped with two nice size shrimp. Hubs had the Alamo burger and their specialty wings-- he loved both! I enjoyed a beer from Double Nickel which is back near our hometown. Loved the vibe-- very crowded but not too loud. read more

The Pros, good parking, lots to drink, lots of TV. Food is done right. Not typical bar food. The Cons, neighborhood at nite, bar swearing that you hear at the back of the rest, "world famous" seriously, no one outside of Berks county has heard of this place, decor tacky, It is a bar first not a rest. My GF and her ex use to come here all the time i am told. He loved it. Compared to chain rest they have variety on the menu. The chef and cooks know their jobs, they deserve better. The person that creates the meals??? Well chef Ramsey and others would have a field day with their menu. Who takes a 25 steak and buries it in an iffy hollandaise sauce in a bar atmosphere. I took that meat home, washed it, refried it and it was divine. Ok to be fair I am not gourmet. Sometimes they just go overboard on the combos and the menu is overloaded which makes me wonder how fresh are they. It is like gourmet food in a bar.Must have a huge freezer. While the food is good and done right I still feel sometimes for the overall experience they charge to much. Don't order a drink with your meal, watered and overpriced. Order a bottle, tap, wine etc. The floor is linoleum and that makes for a lot of noise. The resturant sits right next to the bar and it is a big bar so that was not a pleasant exp on 2 of the 3 visits. The dress code is Wal-Mart. The kids are out of control. Lets face it, it is a bar, inner city, not a restaurant. It is one of the better places menu wise but the rest of it ruins it for me. Waitress was wonderful and service was great also. Very packed and cramped but I see they are adding in the the place, definitely need to make it more family oriented. The Pike Café is a great sports bar and restaurant in the city. It's bigger than it looks from the outside. Unlike many city establishments, parking is easy as they have their own large parking lot across the street. Huge bar and lots of table seating as well. Lots of TVs as you would expect from a sports bar. I love their chicken wings. Their "hot" wing sauce is unique as it has a tasty mustard based element. Worth a try. read more

Pike is a staple in Reading, Pa. Wing night is always a great time to gather with friends, have some wings and a few drinks. I personally love the new outdoor area they have added. I've been coming here for about 5 years now and I love it. I have 2 complaints though: sometimes when we order wings a few of the "wings" are kind of like just bones. He second is, the pizza is not made well at all. The last time I got pizza here the amount of cheese that was on it was probably an inch piled on and barely any sauce plus the cheese overtook the crust. It was as if we ordered a heap of melted cheese. It was not edible at all. Absolutely the worst pizza I've had in my life. Other wise I would have given this place 5 stars. read more

I returned as I really enjoyed my previous visit. This visit,a few weeks ago was un-eventful. It was on a Monday night for the all you can eat ribs. I got there at 5 PM,and saw that they had a blueberry BBQ sauce. Wow,this could be my lucky night? WRONG,as it was "86",and I was the first customer,for dinner. The rib quality went downhill after each re-order. My fries were ok. I really enjoyed the slaw. There are better places for "rib night",in Berks County. I also noticed the increase in cost of the rib special,as I called a few days before. Good thing that I had extra cash with me. Service was top notch!! read more

I don't live in Reading, but have a lot of family there and I love to go to Pike Cafe whenever possible on my visits. Many times I have gone with just my husband and 2 kids and other times with a large extended family group. Each time, regardless of the party size I have always felt well taken care of and have always had a great time. The decor and atmosphere is great, the whole place is very inviting and I do love a place with oh so many TV's. The many expansions over the years are all well done and make Pike Cafe better and better! The menu really knocks my socks off every single time. Not only is the food fantastic, but each time I'm very please/excited/delighted with the incredible variety on the menu. It is really amazing to me that there is such variety and every single thing I've had off the menu has tasted great! Yes, there is certainly an extensive beer and drink menu, which is great...but I think of Pike Cafe as mostly a place to enjoy the surroundings, atmosphere and my family. read more

Went to the Pike Cafe the other week for World Series viewing. The parking is great, easily accessible, lighted, and secure. There was a choice of bar seating, elevated table seating, or low table seating. We chose the low tables and waited a long time for service. The wait staff seemed to be busy and were short staffed. We ordered appetizers of the onion rings and crab dip, both were good. The first order of beers took forever to receive, this was a beer pour, how difficult could that be? The waitress came back after our first beer request to tell us the keg was kicked, well then cross it off the menu or have the bartender communicate that with the waitress? We finally settled in on a second choice of beer, which was good and fresh. Overall, a good place to watch a game in downtown Reading, otherwise, service needs to be greatly improved. read more

What a gem. In what appears to be a run-down, unsafe neighborhood, stands this well appointed and clean bar/restaurant with amazing food. The bar tender is quite attentive and friendly and the food selection is quite good. Of the many TV's on the wall, one has a video stream for the under-cover parking lot area thats keep a watchful eye on the vehicles. Finally gave the Pike a try. We sat in the dining room. Quite loud. Mild and teriyaki wings were delicious. They even use real sliced carrot instead of carrot sticks for the wings. BBQ Berks and the Brunch burgers were also very good and cooked correctly. The bad: food took about 30 minutes to come out, probably due to two large parties in the dining room. The fries probably sat under the light because of this, so they weren't hot. And they were out of the mango salad so they substituted some sesame salad instead of asking. And the salad wasn't the freshest. I'll still come back for wings or burgers though. read more

This location is always hit or miss if you eat in they get your order right normally depends on your waiter or waitress. If you do a take out order it's normally messed up like the wings most of time they are dry with a drizzle of sauce on them then they charge $1 extra when you ask for more sauce. The Pike is a cool neighborhood bar and grill to check out before going to a show at Reverb, which is just two blocks away. Great selection of burgers, sandwiches, and apps. The wings are particularly good. As is the Boar Burger. The restaurant itself has a no-frills, small town feel to it. Staff is friendly and provides good service. Whenever I go to a Reverb show, The Pike is a no-brainer. Recommended. read more

I love The Pike. It's one of my favorite places "where everyone knows your name". If you're a regular (hand raise) they address you by your name and are always friendly. (In the last 7 years I've had maybe one or two bad experiences - I go there a lot.) A few if my faves, the chicken quesadilla with extra black olives, the loaded nachos (yum!), and the blacked chicken pasta dinner. Wings are great, strombolis great. I've seen some turn over in staff but they are still a decent group of servers regardless. The menu is a little pricey for the area but it's worth it and they'll take care of you. read more

Terrible takeout service. We were missing food and had to go back for it. Even though I called and told them what was missed, I had to wait 30 minutes to get the item. That was unacceptable. They don't give you an itemized receipt. The hostesses were extremely disorganized; i.e. didn't get the order right, didn't know how to take names of customers who had to wait for tables, didn't know how to compensate me for having to come back for missing food. I came here the other night with my husband and children. The staff member who greeted us was super friendly and upbeat. We were sat immediately. The server was really nice and very attentive to us the entire time. She even made small talk which was excellent. My husband and I ordered the wings to split. My only thing with these wings is that they tend to be on the smaller side. However, the flavors were excellent. I ordered the chicken tacos and they honestly weren't the best. My husband ordered a wrap and loved it. Our kids each got a meal and they were huge! The boys could have easily split one. They offer a wide variety of drinks. I went in the middle of the week and the place was packed with people. The outside patio was nice. The menu has many options and the prices are reasonable. Omg, the Pike has a new menu and it is fantastic! For all of us vegans out there, no need to bring daiya cheese for a veggie stromboli any more! There are 2, yes, 2 totally vegan options on the menu and they are FANTASTIC! I mean fantastic! Their wrap and their pasta dish both feature the chef's home made veggie burger. Now this is not the run of the mill veggie burger! Believe me! It is full of flavor, he uses a basil pesto and fresh fennel. I have been vegan for 6 years now and have never had a better burger! I want his recipe! He actually came out to the table and chatted with us. This was my first time at the Pike, but it certainly was a great one. Parking is certainly not an issue; the Pike has a huge, well lit parking lot that made it easy to find a spot even on a Saturday night. The appetizers came in a timely fashion, as did the drinks and food. They have a great selection of beers, mixed drinks, and shots which are all really good. The menu is filled with so many diverse options, it made it difficult to decide what to eat. Their wings were alright, but I was a little disappointed in them; I prefer to have my wings dressed completely in sauce instead of having it poured on top. Our waitress was bubbly, attentive, and knowledgeable of the menu items and specials. She brought refills as they were needed and was overall very nice. The atmosphere was welcoming and the place was packed! The place was rather noisy, but you could hold a conversation at a reasonable level. There were so many TVs it made it really easy to watch all of the sports games; however, they were rather distracting if one wasn't interested in watching sports. There was a bond between fans watching the Penn State game and it was fun watching them celebrate after each touchdown.
