Went here for the Ice bar experience, it was on the deck off the hotel and was so small, no seating and only 2 drinks were served one a pineapple doli and the other a spicy marg, they were 18$ came in a plastic cup and were awful!! 5 stars for the views, but 1 star for the food (quality and selection) and the service. We stopped here as a group for some drinks and appetizers, as the ambiance is really nice. Because it's on Goat Island, seemed to be less crowded than downtown Newport. Sat outside on the deck, with a view of the water (bridge, boats, and sunset). The waiter came out to check on us (or take our order), far and few in-between; it felt like our table was just forgot about. We also had to ask about 5X for the employees to turn on the firepits. The food was a huge disappointment. Several of the items on the menu were not available (we were told some of them are always on the menu and have never actually been available). They had a very limited selection of wine- just a few available. For small plates to share we ordered the hummus, a cheeseboard, and lamb chops. All of the food tasted like bar food, nothing special. I would return for the views (and the live music) if I ONLY wanted to have a drink. read more

I think this newly remolded hotel has potential but isn't quite at the level of service or quality that reflect in the prices. The grounds are beautiful. There are plenty of chairs with gorgeous views. They have a full service bar and small bites food menu. There is another restaurant on property with a bigger menu. The hotel is very big. There is only one small outdoor pool. It felt very crowded in the pool. There were lots of children splashing and screaming. It made it hard to relax. My suggestion would be to add an adult only relaxation pool. There is plenty of property and it would a nice addition. I loved all the amenities. Spa,restaurant,bakery arcade, pool tables, gas fire pits, hammocks with views of the Newport bridge. The hotel rooms were clean and nicely decorated. There was a harsh smell of fresh paint. I think this hotel could definitely succeed. read more

Best view in Newport in my opinion, yes better than Castle Hill. Menu is limited-not sure if more is added as the season gets going or not. My salad was fresh and the fries were hot. 2 drinks a salad and fries was $39. Not bad for newport with the best view. Bartenders were nice. Live music on the patio. Lots of seating between the bar, patio and Adirondack chairs. Parking is FREE-no more validation. Will definitely be back especially if the only parking in town is $40 like it was for every lot on memorial day weekend! read more

The restaurant is a great place to enjoy a drink, swim and chill. We enjoyed lunch while seated next to the waterfront and others in our party were seated by the poolside cabana. The Pineapple Club is located in Gurney's and has STUNNING views of the water. It is not super fancy as the rest of the hotel, so if you'd like something a bit more causal this is the place to go. The menu is pretty small but you can still find something to eat. You order on the app and a waiter comes to deliver the food. We were here during the sunset and it was beautiful. Pro Tip: Make a reservation in advance as it gets busy and it is only on reservation basis. read more

Everything overpriced. Ordered a martini with a twist of lemon. It came with olives instead (not at the fault of the server). When I told the server that I had asked for a twist he kindly returned the martini to the bar. The bartender literally removed the olives and inserted a twist (no change in the vodka). The server attempted to return the martini, which appeared practically green. When I asked him to fix that, he returned a second time with a practically empty martini glass to which I responded "where's the rest." The food was sub-par and the martini was $20. My friend ordered a Gimlet with an unimaginable amount of lime juice. As a bartender myself, this restaurant's bartender was familiar neither with proper mixology proportions nor with etiquette. Not worth the money. You're paying for the view. Very nice server from Serbia, terrible bar service. Expected different for an ostensibly prestigious place. read more

If you want lunch with a view, there is no better choice than The Pineapple Club. If you want an outstanding lunch food experience, there are many better choices. I've been going to this outdoor cafe off and on for many years. It used to be known as Pineapples. While the menu was never extensive, they really cut it back. I'm hoping that the Gurneys' owners shrunk it for COVID, and will add back a few items. They used to offer fish tacos, grilled chicken sandwich and salmon on salads. All gone. Our food was good/fine - but nothing special. We had two salads, a Beyond (meat alternative) burger and chicken tenders. I liked that they offered a side salad as an option instead of fries. The salads were colorful and fresh. The hot food was served hot. While you expect to spend a few dollars more for lunch at a place like this, some of it seemed excessive. For example, I think it is it is a bit much when a modest-sized salad costs $13 and $16 without chicken or shrimp on top. Similarly a frozen daiquiri cost $16. ($20 after tax and tip.) I may give this another try on a nice day, but I may also check out some of the other nice options (Black Pearl maybe?). read more

We had drinks and small plates from the "fire pit" menu and it was wonderful. The bartender was great and the staff and friendly. The view can't be beat and we enjoyed watching the sailboats sail under the bridge with the sun setting in the back drop. Well the reviews weren't lying the food was very much a disappointment. Portions of food were completely forgotten. The manager did remedy by taking the order off the check. Expensive and gross drinks if you ask me. Do NOT get any cocktails here: stick with the beers and wines. But the sweet chili wings were REALLY good and not spicy at all. Definitely get those (honestly, would have been 2 stars if the wings didn't save the day, so I added a star to this review)! Our order was wrong and they brought out the wrong food, but they corrected it and didn't charge us for the other food, so it all worked out. Outside patio is super cool with lights and hated "igloos" and lighthouse is cool at night too; ambiance is nice, just the price of things was not worth it at all. I will start off with - YES - I know we are in unprecedented times, so yes, not everything is the same or runs smoothly - however... I am on vacation and been out to dinner every night to other restaurants with amazing food, amazing service, even with COVID restrictions and precautions. I will also say that I have been to Pineapples for years and years, even before Gurney's took over. Starting with the (only) positive comment: the view is THE BEST in Newport. Been there a million times, even before Gurneys. You can't beat it. And, despite my review below, our server was nice and pleasant and was tipped accordingly. The visit last night was awful. We were seated and told to scan the QR Code for a menu. That was it. So, we viewed the menu, but then sat there waiting for a server to come take our order. No one came, so I had to get up and go back to the host stand and ask. No one instructed us that we had to actually place an order, and put things in a "cart" like Amazon, and then complete the transaction. That, after having to create an entire account. We then realized there was no Pinot Grigio on the menu. Back to the bar to ask if that's the case. "No, not available". WHO doesn't have Pinot Grigio? They did however have $64 dollar bottle of Rose (normally under $20). Ridiculous. Yes, I get that alcohol is over priced at restaurants, but no, thank you. So, then we order Sauv Blanc, (having gone through the whole purchase process, creating an account, etc) and then waiting, waiting, waiting... The server finally comes over and says "we don't have any Sauv Blanc by the bottle, we only have 1 bottle at the bar and its been opened so you can have a glass each?" THIS IS GURNEY'S people. Um, there is an entire upper deck bar and indoor restaurant, I am sure there is a bottle to be found somewhere. And, so - we ask them to go look for one and/or provide us with the Rose at the same price as the Sauv Blanc. (I knew that wasn't happening)... and so we wait more... and finally they come with a bottle. Yes, they had to go to the upper restaurant to get one. Thank you. And, btw - if you are a true Sauv Blanc fan, it was not from New Zealand, but from California. Ick. We then went to order some "small bites" - apps. Not a huge selection (yep, get it, Covid times) but we got the shrimp cocktail... $5.50 a piece and they were decent sized, so I guess appropriate, being at Gurneys. But then we ordered chips and salsa. $12.00!! For CHIPS and SALSA. The chips were tasteless, slightly stale, and I could have bought better at Stop & Shop. Salsa wasn't salsa, it was some bizarre tomato'y tasting thick sauce, something you might put on pasta. I think for spending $100 on 1 bottle of cheap wine, 4 shrimp and chips is outrageous. I sound like a snob, but I honestly am not. I know that you are paying for the view, and Gurney's is Gurney's, but COME ON. Gurney's can do much better than that. We felt they were doing the BARE minimum. Suggestion: EXPLAIN to people the ordering process when they come in so they're not sitting there like idiots waiting for a server to come over. Most restaurants who use the QR code simply do so just to view the menu, and then have a server come take the order. read more

I can't say enough about this place! The view is absolutely breathtaking, the service is remarkable, and the drinks are great. We we're helped by Georgia, who made the entire stay rememberable! She was very attentive, timely, answered so many questions for us, and has the sweetest personality. My friends and I ended up staying for an extra round of drinks due to her energy. What happened to our waitress? Who knows as we searched for another to take our order. Two starters shared by four the fried calamari stood out over the lobster corn fritters which were just acceptable. Our mains included two expensively tasteless lobster rolls - a true waste. The pineapple club previously called something very similar is a gorgeous view point to look out upon the bay. Every night at sunset a cannon sounds and a complimentary champagne toast is given, making it a great evening spot to take your significant other. The bar has a nautical feel with friendly service to accommodate your every need... except blueberry vodka. The price point is a little excessive but can be justified with the view and sunshine. The food is again expensive and feels as if your paying for an entree while only receiving an appetizer. The kitchen is on site which cuts down delivery time from kitchen to mouth. A saltwater pool buds up against the bar, which on the island is the only one of its kind, and is a great relaxation area if staying at the hotel. Overall a great spot if your budget can afford it! read more

My two friends and I ate at the Pineapple Club for dinner last night. The views were absolutely breathtaking and the service was amazing. Cheryl (I think that was her name- curly hair, bubbly personality) was one of the best servers I've ever experienced. She was hilarious, had great timing, and was attentive with excellent recommendations. We are on a mini-reunion this weekend and our meal out at the Pineapple Club was the absolute perfect start to our trip! read more

My review is strictly for the experience, more than the food. The outside bar is indeed very expensive.....BUTTTT the views and ambiance are unparalleled. Grab a few drinks and walk around the island and to the lighthouse; it's worth it for this alone, especially at sunset! Don't forget to take selfies with the GOATS while you're at it! read more

One of the most amazing restaurants I've ever been to in my life. I had my reservations when I saw it was located on hotel property, but my company assured me it would be a much better experience than what I was expecting. We ordered a dozen clams, two dozen oysters, two orders of calamari, and two lobsters. To begin, the clams and oysters were phenomenal. There wasn't a single piece of grit or sediment in a single shell I consumed. There wasn't any bearding on the outside of the shell or chipped pieces to be cautious of while eating them. They were fantastic! Unfortunately, the cocktail sauce was just okay. It could have used a little but more horseradish. The calamari was delicious as well. I loved the green onion they added, it was freshly cut and not wilted at all. You can also tell it wasn't sitting in the walk in for a while because it still had that mild onion flavor. The calamari was perfectly crunchy with the right touch of sweetness and a little bit of spice that crept up on you. Lastly, the lobster cocktail was beautifully presented. Also tasted sweetly fresh and was easy to pull the meat out because they made the right breaks for you before hand. The only downside was the drawn butter sitting in the ice. It obviously didn't stay melted and after two dips it was completely solid. Yes, we could have taken it out but after 7 Tito sodas and a bottle of prosecco, it was an easily forgotten step. The view was gorgeous but the service was slow. If the raw bar wasn't one of my top tens, I would be disappointed but the quality literally overshadowed every misstep. read more

We had $17 chips and guacamole which were good but expensive, an extremely bland Cesar salad and the kids shared just ok chicken fingers. The fries were good. Service is slow and not friendly. There are far better places to eat all over Newport. Two stars because you can't beat the view off of goat island. read more

My husband and I had stayed at the hotel several years ago when it was a Hyatt. I knew it was beautiful and wanted to bring my girls to the Pineapple Club for drinks. It is set along the water with such a beautiful view of the sailboats. We spent hours talking, laughing and enjoying our cocktails surrounded by the spectacular view. What really made our experience so enjoyable (since we really didn't eat much) was our adorable waitress, Georgia. She was so sweet and patient and answered all my tequila questions. We ended up staying for an extra round because we felt so welcome and not at all pressured to leave or spend more money. The tab wasn't cheap, but we knew that going in as it is a pricey, upscale hotel. It was just such a nice afternoon with my girls thanks to Georgia! read more

Thanks to the attention to detail of the Culinary Master and Club Manager Matt Sylvester, everyone in our party of six (2 teenagers included) was left amazed by the speed of delivery of our meals and absolutely floored by the flavorful appetizers and succulent entrees! The Pork Belly and Tuna Tartare were out of this world! My cousin and his family of 5 were coming to Manhattan from San Diego and I wanted them to experience a special New York City restaurant. Open during Covid which I guess is nice, but it is an outdoor restaurant so... very much so a pool bar- a couple over priced drink options and then your choices for food are basically a kids menu (chicken tenders, fries, etc). Was looking forward to a day by the pool- which due to Covid is only open to hotel guests- understandable but they should probably put this online. Not worth spending any money here, head down to Bowens Wharf (downtown Newport) and enjoy the same views with better food! read more

I should have listened to the reviews. My experience was extremely disappointing. I was having friends meet me in Newport from over an hour away to catch up over lunch. I thought the Pineapple Club would be perfect as we would be right by the water. I was so wrong. First of all, when we sat down, we have to bring a number to stand in line and order like a beach shack. I couldn't even catch up with friends I haven't seen in years because there was no wait staff, I literally had to wait in line at least 10 people deep for over 15 minutes. When I got to order the woman was incredibly annoyed with having to take my order (there was only three of us). She wouldn't walk up to the window and would stand by the cash register forcing me to literally scream behind my mask to place my order. Then she tells me 18% gratituty is included. Are you kidding me? What am I tipping you for? I would understand if there was an actual waiter/waitress but that is absolutely absurd, it was over a $20 tip, too. The food came out. Both my friend and I got the lobster roll, which was as opposed to last year, more of a lobster salad with tiny chopped pieces of lobster instead of actual chunks. Disgusting, and we both had shells in ours. The whole situation was very disappointing, and I really felt robbed of my money. I will never come back to the Pineapple Club. Everything is overpriced. I spent around $150 for two lobster rolls, a chicken Caesar salad, two drinks and a side of fries, including this forced "tip". What a disaster. read more

The view is great but there are better places for the price. The menu is limited an uninspired a 16.00 chicken sandwich with a 3.00 up charge for fries umm no. The service was ok and the food came out fast. The cost for drinks is ridiculous. It really bums me out that a place I would normally recommend for our yacht guests is off my list. There's no issue paying premium pricing but it would require premium food and premium drinks and that's where there is a disconnect. read more

Never in my life have I hated a bar. A bar is a place where you meet friends, new people and the next love of your life. For the first time in my life I went to a bar where it took me an hour to order a beer. I brushed it off originally as a Memorial Day weekend crowd. As it turned out, it was just the bar and the staff. Out of 4 bartenders we saw 1. Half the time they spent trying to figure out how to enter an order rather than just pouring a drink and taking care our 2 to 3 rows of paying customer. As a local, pineapples has always been on our list to get to at least once each summer. I hadn't been since gurneys took over and was happy to see the nice new bar on the deck and lots more outdoor seating. I was pretty shocked when I picked up the menu and saw the prices (and I am very used to Newport prices and pay them often for the great food and atmosphere we enjoy here). Finally decided on a margarita which was yummy but served in a plastic cup for $18. Sipped it slowly because I knew I wouldn't be ordering another one. At our table of 4 the food was decent and drinks were ok but $60 a couple for 1 drink And 1 appetizer each was a little much. Gone is the great live acoustic music which was replaced by some piped in music that I didn't recognize. The whole vibe was just so different and based on the very limited number of people there on a beautiful summer night, it will just be another hotel bar serving only tourists. Service was incredibly slow and our server had zero interest in us. He asked us if we wanted anything else and we said no but my husband still needed to ask for a check 15 minutes later. View is phenomenal but certainly wasn't going to hang out until sunset at $18 a drink. Unfortunately another Newport gem gone.
