Everything from here is amazing. The first time I ordered from here I had the 10 oz brisket plate which included two sides of your choice. I got the cornbread and seasoned fries. We preordered meals to take out from here. Baby back ribs, brisket and pulled pork were our choices. All was ready by the time we arrived. The brisket and pulled pork were tender and my companions enjoyed a little extra sauce on them, supplied by the restaurant in a separate container. The baby backs were pre-cut so they were easy to separate, unlike ribs from other places which make it more difficult to handle. The meat came right off the bone and I found I didn't need any extra sauce on them. Sorry there are no pictures, but we were all starving and by the time I wanted to take pictures much of the dishes were mostly eaten! I guess that says enough about the quality of the food! I'm a chef who has worked in nyc my entire career of 20 plus years I have been the chef of such places as The modern, Claudette, and the Harrison... I can whole heartedly say the the pit is awesome BBQ. The chicken is always moist and juicy. The coleslaw is light , crunchy, refreshing and packed w celery seed goodness. The braised collard greens are always cooked to perfection ...soft, savory and satisfying. I usually go for the chicken but the few times I have gotten the ribs they were killer. The chef can cook...no doubt about it. I am not a BBQ expert but I know good cooking. I would put the pit up against any other BBQ joint in Jersey or the city for that matter . The good is that their portions have not been reduced like in many other restaurants in Edgewater that chose that as the way to support profits without raising prices. Sadly, we ordered a medium well done hamburger that arrived bloody rare. Due to health reasons, burgers must be served fully cooked, unlike steak. We also felt a bit taken by Grub Hub since I noticed we paid an extra $10 after seeing the prices charged in the restaurant's board, only for calling in the order and picking up. My wife and I have driven down the hill and passed this BBQ establishment numerous times, we decided to stop by and try them. Upon entry we met the jovial and congenial Bianca, a very nice & friendly young lady. We also met Romero the cook, he wasn't as friendly. We ordered half rack of Baby Back Ribs, Brisket and Texas chili. For sides we got beans, potato salad, collard greens and fries. Don't count on the sides to alleviate your hunger, the portions are very small in tiny containers, much more suited for a toddler. My wife and I enjoyed the Brisket, it was very tender, juicy and full of flavor. The Ribs were a bit tough though, I am used to Ribs that the meat falls off the bone, but the sauce was OK. This "Texas" chili had lots of beans, whereas a true Texas chili doesn't contain any beans, but we truly enjoyed the chili, beans and all, this was the pièce de résistance! All in all we won't go out of our way to go there for Ribs, I would much rather go to Red, White & Que Smokehouse in Kearny, but I might stop by again for the chili. read more

This pit is it! Please believe me when I tell you that my husband & I thoroughly enjoyed every bite of everything we ordered. Ribs, pulled chicken sandwich, chicken, fries & corn on the cob. Finger lickin delicious. I've had this bookmarked for a minute waiting patiently to get over there. This is my new spot for bbq. It's on the pricey side, but imo you pay for the good stuff. And I will pay again & again. It's a small place, no seating inside, but there is seating outside. I loved the way it's setup too. Very cozy. I drive by this place all the time and always say, "I'm going to eat here one day". The day has finally come and I was very disappointed. Ordered the BBQ Trio with 2 Sides (Coleslaw and Beans) with Homemade Mac & Cheese. What really made my brow raise was the fact that I paid $32 for "4 oz Brisket, 3 Ribs and Chicken" and it really felt like I was ripped off. I know, maybe I was naive to believe that they were gonna give me 3 racks of ribs but instead I got 3 ribs :( The Brisket: Honestly probably the best item I got and still on the dry side. Well-seasoned but hard to eat without dousing it in BBQ sauce. 7/10 The Ribs: Mediocre at best. Not fall-off-the-bone. Did I mentioned they only gave me 3 ribs??? 3/10 The Chicken: Tasted like they bought a rotisserie chicken from Costco and "elevated" by adding BBQ sauce and few pinches of pepper. 3/10 The Mac and Cheese: looked amazing until you took a spoonful of it and realized it tasted like butter, milk and noodles. Like c'mon add salt and season it like you did the brisket!! 2/10 The Beans and Slaw: The beans were probably the second best item I got and still was mediocre. Tasty but felt like it was missing something. The slaw was on the acidic side and would have been a great palate cleanser had the meat been good enough to balance out. 5/10 Overall, this place was a huge disappointment to the BBQ restaurant name. Nice little BBQ spot in Edgewater! We love their pulled pork sandwich, and have also tried the baked potatoes, wings, fish sandwich, and mac n cheese. Seems they've always already sold out of brisket when we go, so that's been on our list to try for a while. Everything is consistently flavorful, juicy and fulfills our BBQ cravings. The restaurant itself is small and only has a few indoor/ outdoor tables. They have super nice and friendly staff that make you feel at home when you stop in for takeout or to dine in. Stumbled in tho this place has e afternoon at lunchtime. My husband had the crispy flounder and raved over it, "Best in the area" I enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich- The menu is substantial and the the smell of good BBQ food was definitely a lure to try some of the other menu items. This past weekend we ordered the "pit platter" to share with friends and we thoroughly enjoyed ALL of the meats! Can't even pick a favorite! The sausage was so flavorful and delicious, the chicken-Smokey and juicy, the brisket- like butter, and the ribs- meaty and well seasoned. I felt it was a terrific meal and and a good value. I've been ordering from the pit like once every three weeks or so. The food is simply delicious. We get their pulled pork sandwich, half chicken and half ribs combo. Their meats are always cooked to perfection and very flavorful. Their sides are good too. Great potential but when you dump so much salt on it, it's kinda not so good. What a waste. Salt ! That is to say, the food is really really well made but they ruined the ribs and brisket with salt, somebody did. Fries and slaw real good. They missed the chicken, thank god. Update: I ordered a 1/2 chicken and ribs for pick-up with potato salad and beans. Chicken was very good; ribs were fine -- not fall-off-the-bone like I was hoping but still tasty. The potatoes in the potato salad were a little undercooked and I didn't much care for it overall. The beans were great. I also got the "dirty kettle chips", thinking they were homemade, but I was disappointed to learn that they were just a $3 small bag of chips you could get at any deli. There's definitely room for improvement -- I'll be back to try the brisket at least. Previous review: I haven't actually been yet. But I see a fake bad review from a competitor in Weehawkin so I'm giving five stars to help balance that out. I am excited to try this place since I miss the previous business that was in this location (Subz Up) and we are desperately in need of GOOD barbecue. So good! I was surprised by some not so great reviews and we decided to try anyway and it did not disappoint. We got 2 burgers, fries, loaded pots, choc cookies and want to know something!? Every item was fresh, warm and delicious! The burgers were so on point they melted in our mouths. We got medium cooked and it was so perfection. Fries were great too and the warm choc cookies omg. And, I love sauces and they gave bbq and hot and ketchup which was really lovely to have options. Their bbq is finger licking good. It got delivered and was totally fine. They popped a hole in the food containers to prevent soggy and it worked. You could tell they are run by someone who pays attention to details and cares about the product they are serving. Thanks to all who prepped, cooked and delivered our food(btw he was adorable and sweet too!). Only read my review and order from the ASAP!! No pics bc we ate ever morsel! read more

Great addition to Edgewater - must try! Friendly and always quick with both delivery and pick up. My boyfriend is a big fan of the pulled chicken and also the ribs. The sides are all great, too. The reason I knocked down a star is this is not a vegetarian friendly place. I get by with a loaded baked potato (minus the bacon) and a side of corn bread, which are both incredible and filling, but would like to see at least one vegetarian main option. We were sad to see Subs Up go, but happy to have this new addition. Definitely recommend. PS - Pit, I hope you ditch your Styrofoam containers. read more

This place was awesome. When leaving Pennsylvania via Newark airport The Pit will be a destination prior to going to the airport. I had the special of the day, the chicken brisket combo with fries and greens for my sides. Food arrived hot juicy and flavorful. And so were the ribs! How do u make 2 fattiest cuts of meat dry? Texture was all wrong too. It was crumbly yet rubbery at the same time. I can't describe it accurately. It was just unpleasant Maybe I got a leftover BBQ from a day before, because cat fish was good. But BBQ meats were Horrible! Too bad I ordered it through Uber Eats. This is by far the most delicious BBQ on the east coast! Can't believe it's in my backyard. The brisket is the most tender, moist, flavorful EVER. Pulled pork, ribs, chicken, beans, cornbread, coleslaw EVERYTHING was fabulous and fresh. The fries are also seasoned perfectly and just so freakin good. YOU MUST TRY THIS FOOD.
