We have stopped by Jinjee a few times and gotten takeout since my March review. - Something is going on with them, in that we went last week on Friday evening and it was EMPTY. We were wondering what is going on, could the impact of summer be that bad, is there a boycott. By the time we left, another table had been seated. The previous visits, the place had been bustling. - I like leftovers, but would say leftovers from here have to be eaten sooner. - They got rid of their prix fixe menu. I'm not sure why. - We will probably still stop by periodically but it is more expensive, somewhat different from the other places. We had bulgogi, the raw crab dish, the beef patty. For the banchan, still prefer what they had in the prix fixe - it's on the spicier side. read more

Honestly, I really expected more from a Korean restaurant that has midtown Manhattan prices for its menu items. I recently visited Jinjee on a weekday evening with a friend for her birthday dinner. Since my friend likes Korean food and I wanted her to be able to try a number of different dishes, we decided on yukhwe as starter, the set menu with bulgogi as the main, and a la carte order of tteok galbi. The set menu comes with a bowl of rice, but they asked for an additional $3 for the rice cooked in a stone pot. I am pretty sure I remember hearing 돌솥, but instead of a stone pot, the rice cooked in a metal pot, and it was obvious the chef failed to properly adjust the heat because nurungji, which is supposed to be lightly scorched rice, was completely burnt black, so sungnyung (the rice water) had a horribly burnt taste, so much so that we did not finish all of it. (Also, instead of leaving the rice pot on the table, they took it back and brought out nurungji when we were finished with our meal. We were confused as to why.) In fact, the inability to control the cooking fire was a prevalent theme throughout, which is probably why yukhwe -- beef tartare, and does not involve cooking at all -- was the best dish of the night. Bulgogi was okay but on the sweeter side. However, the absolute worst dish of the night was tteok galbi. We received two patties, and one was mostly burnt black on the underside (see photos). Side dishes were not bad though. Given that we were one of two tables that night, if the fire control is this terrible when the restaurant is not busy, I shudder to think what the food would be like when it is busy. Another negative was that the server brought the portable credit card terminal to the table, where I could enter my phone number for the receipt, but to this day (almost a month later), I still have not received the receipt for this meal. However, I did not factor this issue into the stars for this review given that there is the possibility of human error (despite the fact that I am very doubtful that I entered my phone number in correctly). There are so many Korean restaurants in Bergen County that taste great and are much friendlier on your wallet. Unless visiting for yukhwe, I highly recommend somewhere else other than Jinjee to satisfy your cooked Korean food craving. read more

We had a great experience at Jinjee in Edgewater! No alcohol served. The food was good , with the pork items being particularly exceptional. The scallion egg pancake was a bit of a letdown, unfortunately, as it was overly oily. However, the banchan (side dishes) were all delicious and added to the overall meal. The ambience was also pleasant, and the staff was friendly and attentive. Overall, we would definitely recommend Jinjee for fans of Korean cuisine - just maybe skip the scallion egg pancake. we would return to try more of the menu. read more

My family has been eagerly awaiting the opening of this restaurant and I have now been there twice this week (once for dinner and once for lunch) during their soft opening. I ordered the set menus each time. Not only was each dish presented so beautifully, it was so flavorful and delicious. It was nice to have such a large variety of dishes to have. My favorite dishes were the yook jun (beef pancake) and the bossam (pork belly). The beautiful interior and friendly staff were also a nice bonus. My kids also really enjoyed the food. I was seriously craving 간장게장 (soy marinated raw crab) after shopping at Mitsuwa and randomly found Jinjee, it had good reviews so I decided to give it a shot. And wow, I'm so glad I did. The place was super clean with a really pretty aesthetic, and I was warmly greeted right away. We ordered the 간장게장, beef tartar, and the seafood jjampong tofu stew. Let me just say... that soy marinated crab was the best I've had since Korea. The shells were soft, the flavor was perfectly balanced, not too salty at all. I had two bowls of rice just with the 간장게장 alone, it was that good. The beef tartar was also amazing. looked like they used 참나물 (aromatic Korean greens), which gave it a way more elevated flavor than the usual pear-only style. The jjampong stew came with a whole crab and shrimp, and the spice level was spot on. I usually get that weird burning feeling from MSG, but this one i didn't feel anything, it was just a clean, deep flavor. And all the side dishes? So good. To top it off, the owner mentioned they're planning to sell Korean corn dogs and even gave me one to try and omg, I'm still thinking about it. Super crispy outside and soft inside. This place is a gem. I'm definitely coming back soon to try more dishes. read more

Went with my family to have an early birthday dinner. They gave us an option to sit in a room or in the hall and we chose the room. It just has sliding doors so you can have a private meal. The server recommended that we limit the # of set meals and order other dishes to complement. So we ordered 3 set meals, galbi jjim and seafood pajeon to share amongst 5 people. The jinjee set is $38 (which they said 60% of the group should order it); they grouped all 3 into one so it was easy to share instead of having it individually. We thought everything tasted good but not amazing. Our favorites were the bossam and jellyfish salad. The seasoning for everything was a bit bland but it was better than being salty. Loved the sikhye at the end which was refreshing. The portion size can be better and it seems they have everything already prepped so there were a few dishes that should've been warm but came out cold. They do refill the assorted banchan (both the white and red kimchis were good). I think it's good to try at least once if you like banchan and shareable dishes. read more

Was looking forward to trying a new korean spot out but we were unfortunately disappointed. Unsure if it was just because they're a new spot and they're adjusting, but the reviews on here don't match up with our experience at all. There are very limited options on the menu (i guess understandably bc it's a soft opening menu), and the prices are really mind blowing considering the quality of the food. We expected high quality, well thought out and plated dishes but we received what I could've easily made at home both taste wise and plating wise. We ordered bibimbap, spicy galbi jjim, yuk jeon, and bulgogi. The galbi jjim came out first, even before the banchan which was odd. The waitress j brought it alone with a side of rice and that also left us kind of confused. Usually the banchan comes out first and the main dishes altogether. The galbi jjim was tiny and although we did order a small, for $50 I think it should've had a bit more to it. Looked like a reheated leftover dinner from the day before. In an attempt to make it seem fancier they served it on a flame which seemed a little unnecessary. The bibimbap was served w a pretty well done fried egg (no runniness to the yolk at all) and a tiny plate of gochujang on the side, the dish ended up being super dry and bland. The yuk jeon was half eggplant and half beef, was not expecting eggplant, but that's how it was served. Both quite oily, would've been better w a side of dipping sauce (because it was barely seasoned) but it was served w a salad. The bulgogi was cut up and crumbly, it was seasoned alright. Came out in a ceramic pot dish. The banchan was very limited and didn't complement the dishes very well. An anchovy side dish was served and it was mostly the heads and all disconnected and strange. I will say I am quite picky, but considering the total was almost $200 with tip, there should be some sort of upscale factor but it felt like i paid that much for a homecooked meal. The service was also not good either, it took me several attempts to try and get the waitress' attention because there was only one server.
