Honestly, how this place got on DDD is a mystery to me.... I have tried this twice with 2 other friends... yesterday we got basic stuff, sweet potato fries and a fish sandwhich and 6 pc chicken nuggets and reg fries. Both were so bland and lackluster, McDonalds has better flavor... service was quite good and they were super nice... one thing that was good and gained them the one star is the milk shakes. Those were excellent... otherwise, the hamburger I had last time and yesterday's meal was not even memorable. Just totally bland and flavorless.... All-American wannabe. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking. I bet they saw the lines out the door and figured if they sold a more 'upscale dining experience', they would cash in. It IS in Merrick, Long Island and there are quite a few squeamish housewives with a caravan to serve. The people in charge do care about what they are doing, but the classic misstep is in suffering from menu ADD. A menu should give you only a few individual feelings. I do not want to get a Sesame Tuna Tataki Salad in the same place as I get a Bacon Cheeseburger. I don't want any salad (wtf?) at a fast food shack. And it IS a shack if you the outside - it looks great, by the way. And there is no way a Shrimp and Avocado wrap should ever share a page with a lamb gyro with fries. Oh, and what is a penne ala vodka doing in there? I'm looking for consistency. I want menu integrity. They may make it fresh when you order, but how could they have this gigantic selection without having a liberally used freezer. Do you think the gyro comes off a spit? I don't think so. Just because Guy Fieri comes to your place doesn't mean I'm going to get all caught up in the hype. I mean, I wanted to get caught up in the hype, but I just couldn't. First off, I had no idea about The Pit Stop being on an episode of Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. But my friend who lives nearby told me I had to check it out as part of a stop on my visit home to Long Island. Upon walking in you notice that they milk Fieri's visit like the cash cow that it promises to be, but unfortunately the food didn't come anywhere near the hype. Maybe I have to just try the burger, fries and shake, but I had the chicken, the ribs, the mash, the beans, the salad, and my wife had the soup and salad. Chicken was totally lackluster. Ribs where cold and boring, covered in an unappetizing sauce. Mash was good, but guess what? Gravy was cooooold. Before I even tried it I asked for another side of gravy thinking I'ld want more anyway, the lady was kind of obnoxious and barked to the other employee, "I gave him gravy." He told me he was waiting for some gravy to heat up and it's coming right up...guess what? BOTH GRAVY'S WERE COLD! Lame. Oh, I had the beans, not bad. My wife thought the chicken noodle soup was lame and my wife thought the salad dressing was thick and pasty. And did I mention the ribs were cold and c.r.a.p.p.y? Really, they may brag about making everything from scratch (did like the mash's texture and taste), but they need to warm up their tasteless food better. Guy should have kept on driving. read more

Terrible customer service... We had recently returned from a short vacation and hadn't had a chance to do the grocery shopping to make dinner. So on a very stormy, rainy night with lots of flooding we had to venture out. We drive by The Pit Stop all the time, but had never tried it and in looking for a menu that played both to adults and kids, we decided to give it a go. Sadly we were disappointed for a variety of reasons... We ordered a double cheeseburger, the shrimp salad wrap, sweet potato fries, mozzarella sticks and a "grilled cheese". When we got home and opened the food, everything looked right, but the grilled cheese was "different". So I called to make sure it was in fact this was the grilled cheese. It turns out that they must get this question a lot , and it was a grilled cheese, that isn't grilled - it is a sesame hamburger bun with cheese in the middle that is baked / toasted in the oven. For anyone with kids, a break for the "normal" can be total meltdown material - to the manager, you may want to note on the menu how the grilled cheese is different and not actually grilled. Here is the kicker of the whole story. When I called, I made a point to mention that I was a first time customer, who was obviously disappointed (I did mention that I expected more for a $4 grilled cheese, and I am not a cheap person; I pay for good food). However, not only was he not concerned that I was a first time customer, he didn't want to hear about me being disappointed and decided to HANG UP on me. Upon calling back (he again answered), the first words I asked were "did you hang up on me", giving him the opportunity to say no, we got disconnected; he said nothing. So, I asked for the manager. The manager proceeded to tell me in not so many words that I was a liar; he did not hang up on me and we got disconnected. He offered me a refund for the grilled cheese after that, but in the end, it is simply about the customer experience. Things are not always perfect; make it right when the customer is not happy.... The rest of the food was OK, but we won't be heading back any time soon, or at all for that matter. PS - This is my first Yelp review. Well, I came here 2x total. The last time was just a few days ago. I saw this on Guy Fieri's show. So I figured I'd try it again, thought perhaps I missed something the 1st time. I ordered the Cuban with fries and a drink and some chocolate chip cookies. The cookies were HORRIBLE. They looked good but tasted bad or uncooked/half-baked =(.. The fries weren't anything special. The Cuban sandwich was OK I'd probably never order that again though. They seem to be too focused in the past with Guy Fieri's tv show instead of improving their food. For some reason they thought it was a good idea to have 5 TVs with changing menus...I'm just surprised they have been in business for so long. I used to work at Pitstop and I promise you, I know this place better anybody. Without a shade of arrogance, I can confidently say that there is no point in listening to anybodies review, but mine. That sounds pretty arrogant, doesn't it? No matter, I don't care. Beyond working at Pitstop, where I had access to their fridges as well as, a birds eye view to the inner workings of their kitchen, I also worked at their sister restaurant (same owners) Wildfish. So, I had insight into the freshness of their food, where it was coming from (I picked up for them at the restaurant depot once) and overall, I have an opinion, that a one time customer could simply never match. Therefore, I think it is quite stupid when people trash this place and give it one star for a singularly bad experience because one of their fries wasn't crispy enough. I think anyone who enjoys food and considers themselves any sort of a "critic," understands that you really cannot determine the legitimacy of a food joint from ONE experience. Granted, if that one experience is awful it's understandable that your mind is immediately made up; so I understand that rationale. Nevertheless, there is one problem and only one problem with Pitstop; the pricing. The place is a complete and total rip off. There's simply no denying it, there prices are absurd and I remember, when I used to work counter sometimes, I felt awkward telling the customer how much they owed. It can get ridiculous. In spite of the pricing, Pitstop almost has the right to charge so much. For starters ALL of their food is very fresh and EVERYTHING is made to order. Not to mention, its unique, creative, delicious and consistent. Also, on a somewhat relevant side note, if you are not happy with your order, TELL THEM. They are very accommodating and the entire staff is customer friendly. Even if your complaint is ridiculous, they will honor it. At this point you're probably think I'm kissing up, as a former employee. To be crystal clear, I did not like working at Pitstop. It was difficult, stressful and my manager can get heated under said circumstances; and that's a nice way of putting it. Essentially, I would have no problem trashing this place if the food was bad, but its not. The reason I was and continue to be a loyal customer to Pitstop, in spite of their pricing, is because I will pay extra money for quality; 100% of the time. Simply put, their quality is top notch. Finally, I will offer some recommendations. Pitstop has an EXTREMELY diverse menu. Recently it was scaled down a bit, but they still offer everything from wraps, sandwiches, burgers, salads, ribs, chicken, steak and salmon. It's NOT a fast food joint. It's a restaurant that cooks fast. I'm a huge fan of the: 1. Tuscan Romaine Pasta Salad This is a unique combination of mixed greens, pasta, mushrooms, black olives, sundried tomatoes and light Parmesan cheese all tossed in a homemade balsamic dressing. I like to throw some grilled chicken on top, which will round you out to about 13.50, but I'll pay that every time; gladly. 2. Crispy Chicken Wrap This is a fan favorite (I think) and it's a simple wrap filled with crispy chicken, cheddar, lettuce, tomato and ranch. The buffalo chicken wrap is also quite good. 3. Sesame Chicken Wrap (solely for the originality) You won't find anything like this, just about anywhere. Seared Sesame chicken with avocado, crispy wontons, mixed greens and a miso vinaigrette dressing. It's kind of strange, but that's what I like about it. 4. Steak Sandwich Ciabatta bread, marinated skirt steak, melted mozzarella and grilled onions. Delicious, but my friends have complained in the past that they skimp on steak. I see where they're coming from. 5. Soups, Chicken Gumbo Soup This is a phenomenal soup that is tomato based and it includes vegetables, chicken and pieces of hot dog for flavor. I absolutely love it. Their chili is also quite good, with a sweet after taste and the butternut squash is like melted gold. 6. Sides, Creamed Spinach Really good spinach, simple. _________ ALSO, when GUY FIERE came in he ordered: -The Cuban Sandwich -The Salmon Teriyaki Salad and -The Spaghetti Squash - They are all very tasty, but the spaghetti squash is something of a cult hit particularly among women. They LOVE it and with good reason; it's healthy (somewhat, anyway) and delicious. ________ THE BEST THING TO DO, if you want a fairly priced pitstop experience IS: Come in BEFORE 4pm and get the Lunch special. This is a wrap, fries (OR SOUP) and a drink for about 10 dollars. When I worked there it was exactly 10.06 but that has probably changed. That's the best way to get your moneys worth and if you work locally, but can't leave the office; they deliver. Um, I was disappointed. Let's start that way. We came here on 10/4/12 during lunchtime. I ordered the squash spaghetti which looked sooo good on DDD when Guy Fieri was there and I couldn't wait to get my hands on that bowl-o-vegetable-goodness. The flavors were delicious, the homemade tomato sauce made the dish. I ordered mine with mozarella cheese which I would have enjoyed had the cheese melted and it was not served to me room temperature. I assume the young "chefs" in the back that were playing around had something to do with that. The front counter help were not enthused to see new customers either. They literally stood there and stared at us as we took a minute to order...Oh no, not COLORED FOLK...that's how the staring made us feel. The speedy service was on point however. It was a little weird how they had a guy chewing his nails hiding behind the wall from his apparent supervisor/ team leader and had to constantly be reminded to "get the trays....clean the tables...." as he so reluctantly did. The nail bitting was disgusting while I was trying to eat. It was also rude how it quickly got crowded and the staff member was sitting at a table and a customer literally had to put his tray on the table for the staff to move out of his lazy seat. My husband had the philly cheesesteak sandwhich. He stated he enjoyed the fresh bread and nothing else about it. I haven't eaten in here 4 years but I used to be a regular. The turkey burgers are my favorite. The owners are so nice. (their son is in my favorite band and they gave me his autograph!!!!) Kind of annoyed by all these nasty reviews. I worked in Merrick for over 5 years, and The Pit Stop was always a staple for us and me. Being on the road for my new job, we stopped here and I was super excited to go again. Mr Rubano and his family were just as I remembered. Food was still just as good and service perfect as always. Pit Stop is definitely one of my favorite go to places when I'm hungry. Everything I've ever ordered and ate has been amazing. The quality of food and flavor is what keeps me going back. My absolute favorites are the cheeseburgers, California burger ( avocado and bacon ) and steak and cheese sandwich. Just thinking about the flavor they use on their meat makes my mouth watery. All their wraps are great and salads never leave me disappointed. They also have the best milkshakes. The owner Tony and staff are super friendly and make sure you get your food in a timely manner. I live nearby, but like many, only heard of it after ddnd on tv..the menu is expansive and they make a great sandwich..the new england clam chowder is extremely flavorful, and my wrap was hefty.. My husband and I went Friday afternoon and it was just HORRIBLE!!! He had the sesame chicken wrap and I started with chicken salad wrap with bacon. His wrap was too sweet, because of the lousy sauce that was on it and messy. I sent back the chicken salad wrap, because it was bland even with the bacon. So I got the buffalo chicken wrap. It was okay too, nothing special. The chicken was greasy and I had three tomatoes in the whole sandwich. The place was dirty and the tables weren't really clean. Tony has been a smiling friend of the community since before the Pit Stop opened. I met Tony from my visits after little league games with my team and continue to frequent the pit stop when I'm looking for something good to eat in Merrick. I've picked up,eaten in and ordered delivery. Food is great anyway you order it. The pit stop Serves tastey,interesting, quality food in Merrick for years. Some of my favorites are the Turkey Pita, grilled chicken / avocado balsamic wrap, and the rack of ribs. The wings are awesome and the soups never disappoint. Chicken noodle and butternut squash among my favorites. I've been known to kill a hot dog (with mustard and sour kraut) or two while waiting for my to go order. I believe everything the Food Network tells me so when I found out that Guy stopped by this place on DDD and loved the Cuban I had to go (especially now since I'm down the block). I ordered the Cuban with Provolone instead of Swiss (not a swiss guy) and got the combo with fries and a soda. It came to almost $15! No, I didn't order my Cuban stuffed with lobster meat. Pretty pricey for a sandwich, small order of fry, and a small fountain soda. Anyway, I would pay even more if the sandwich was delicious and, unfortunately, it wasn't. Don't get me wrong, those who said the Cuban was a "1 star" sandwich really surprises me and makes me wonder what they ate, but I've certainly eaten better Cubans and thought maybe Guy was A) either lying or B) served something completely different than what I had. First, it's not a traditional Cuban since it contains turkey (which is fine by me, but just making a point). In terms of flavor, the turkey was a little dry, it could have used more pickles, and it needed more honey mustard. Bread was great, but shouldn't have been the star of the sandwich. Fries were also good (above average). The place has a huge menu too. Even with he sub-par reviews on Yelp, the place always seems packed so they're doing something right. Stopped here one night for take out for dinner early October. Not crowed at all (there's a red light) . Chili & sweet potato fries. When we got to the car to leave we reached in to try a fry and UCK. It was limp soggy barely warm , gross ! As i spat it out into a tissue and looked at my husband he was offended too . He took them back and told them and ask for them to be well done. After 5 minutes husband returns to the car and we're on our way home, next town over. Fries were better but no seasoning on them at all ! After heating up the Chili , uck! Similar to All American Burger in that its a independent Burger joint but its not as classic and its menu's a little more of everything offering wraps roasted chicken n' sides. The food is all fresh made to order except the roast chicken. Ive dined here over a dozen times and find the food quite good. They offer Sweet Potato Fries which are so good the Fries taste Fresh. I've driven past here a bunch of times, but never really thought of stopping here until I recently saw it featured by Guy Fieri on Drivers, Drive-in's and Dives. From the outside, The Pit Stop looks like an old fast food joint, but the inside (and what I learned from the Food Network episode of Triple-D), it's not your average fast food. And probably shouldn't really be called fast food at all. You walk in and you really don't smell any fried foods (there's really not a particular scent to be taken in). They have a bunch of LCD/LED menu boards with a TV in the middle showing on endless loop the making of the Triple-D episode with Guy Fieri (particularly the part where they are making the Cuban Sandwich, which I would like to try one day). Anyhow, I ordered the Roast Beef Panini and my kids ordered the chicken fingers. Both of which were made fresh to order. One of the new disappointments -- of a place that appears to strive to make their offerings form scratch -- is the milkshakes. You would think that a place such as this might do milkshakes in the "old fashioned" way of hand dipping scoops of ice cream and blending it with milk and syrup. But sadly, NO, they have a machine with what I am certain was a pre-made concoction of ice cream mixing all day long in a mechanical feezer / mixer. While it's probably just as good (or close to), a hand-dipped shake, a place like this would probably benefit from hand-dipping their shakes (just my opinion). My Panini, with roast beef, cheese and a cajun aioli was very tasty and tender on a bread that had a great crunch to it. I look forward to trying other sandwiches of this nature from them sometime soon. As for the chicken fingers, they were tasty, but some of them were tough and my daughter really couldn't chew parts of them. The fresh cut fries were very good though. Will I come back? Yes. I've only been in here a few times and I've only had a burger and fries so thats what im reviewing. Crappy burger and maybe the worst fries I've had in decades. Seriously...$7 for a double cheeseburger thats more bun than burger is a bit much. Tasted like a ball park or beach burger. If you're looking for that, go to All American Burger in Massapequa. It's better and wont set you back a ton of cash. As for the fries, there was no amount of salt i could put on those things to coax some flavor out of them. I dont ever use ketchup on my fries, or on anything for that matter. As far as I'm concerned, it just masks the flavor. But for these fries i had to! I don't know...people seem to like this place. As a Bellmore resident, I've been coming here for years. However, the last 3 visits have been very disappointing. The food doesn't have that "home cooked" taste anymore especially their soups. I took out a chicken gumbo last night, opened it up and it was loaded with hot dogs!! That's not authentic! Who puts hot dogs in their gumbo? The base was a tasteless tomato soup, no carrots, okra, onion, nothing! My boyfriend said that he was so disappointed the last few times that we were there, that he didn't even bother to order anything but the soup for me. Have never had a bad meal here, lots of options and everything is always fresh. We are big fans of just about every single thing on the menu. The prices are definitely great for what you're getting, especially their summer lobster special, which is a 1 1/4 pound lobster, corn on the cob and a side of coleslaw for $19.99, everything was extremely fresh. I've been here a few times because I saw this place on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, and it definitely lacked a lot of the hype that Guy Fieri gave it. Don't get me wrong, the food I had here was substantial but I guess I was expecting a bit more in the flavor department. I had the Cuban sandwich and it tasted like a standard Cuban, nothing special about it. In fact, I think it lacked much needed pickles and roasted red peppers. Portion was good however, without that much needed bite of the pickle or pepper, it became just mouthfuls of meat. The szechuan wrap was very satisfying-- good amount of seasoning on the chicken and shrimp. Very tasty. The steak sandwich was good as well, perfect amount of cheese and the steak was well seasoned--lot of garlic. However, the bread they serve it on isn't in proportion with the amount of steak they give--the bread is just way too big. There were times when my bites consisted of mostly bread. It's a shame because the steak tastes really good. If I'm in the area and I'm hungry, I'd stop here. But I wouldn't go out of my way for it. read more

We missed our train by one minute so decided to eat a quick bite before the next train. I've passed the pit stop a bunch of times and always said I would like to eat there one day. Finally did...it was good. 8/10. I ordered the skirt steak panini and my wife ordered the chicken wrap. The skirt steak panini was just that..marinated skirt steak on a panini with onion and cheese. It was good, but I expected more despite what the menu said. My wife really enjoyed the chicken wrap. It had lettuce, pesto mayo and grilled veggies. Her order came with a drink and fries. The lady at the counter gave us a free refill which I thought was awesome. A lot of places don't do that anymore so that's a big plus. They also offer free delivery which is huge for people that live close and do the delivery thing, we personally don't. All and all..I'd go back for a second visit. read more

I've been here many times and I must say that I haven't tried the whole menu or anything close because I am so in love with the few items that I did try. So yes, it's a pretty limited review since I just keep ordering the same thing (creature of habit? or are they just THAT good)? Anyway, first let's talk food: I am NOT a wrap person under any circumstance (really never order) and I am totally a spaghetti squash or vegetarian sandwich kind of person. HANDS DOWN best item on the menu is the BUFFALO CHICKEN WRAP. It amazed me to no end and became something of an slight addiction. To this day I cannot drive down sunrise highway and pass this place without getting the buffalo chicken wrap...if not for me, then for my cousins that live nearby (in case I'm full). It's like a gift. Does it taste like really bad junk food that might clog and artery, yes. And that is the void that it fills...it's for when you want to be gluttonous. (Might I add that I do not eat wings...I just love their buffalo sauce, a lot!) So the wrap is the perfect mix of well crisped chicken in loads of sauce and gorgeous chunks of blue cheese. The veggies are nothing short of fresh. This wrap has made me question how you can possibley get the chicken to stay so satisfyingly crispy in so much sauce. So satisfying that you need nothing more. I did try the portabello chicken sandwich which was good, but not spectacular. I also tried the salads - they are generous and always fresh. Fries are normal. Oh and the spaghetti squash primavera is absolutely delish! It always pleases me to see spaghetti squash outside of my home on a menu. The place is a bit run down and divey...and you don't expect to get anything good out of it but the veggies are fresh, the food is satisfying and you know it's made fresh right there. Don't got for the ambiance, go for something better than average fast food. Be prepare to wait a bit, the service is somewhat slow. I've been going here way before they were triple D and I think that show just created expectations for a fast food spot that's a little better than fast food. So I came to this place because of the diners drive-in show. First thing I noticed is the pictures of Guy Fieri practically all over the place, do they worship him?... weird. Anyway, I had the spaghetti squash and it was alright but nothing special and WAAAY OVERPRICED. The dish didn't even come with cheese, oh that's right they charge extra for that -really?!
