Yes, the shop is small, but as soon and my girlies and I walked inside, we immediately were welcomed and given the ~shpiel~ of what to expect for a typical dine-in experience. I'm pretty sure we talked to the manager yesterday--very knowledgable and made us feel less intimidated with decision paralysis. There were tons of yummy options on display (...I'm looking at you, Chorizo pizza). For yesterday's visit, I got the Contadina which has Italian sausage in it (and a bunch of other ingredients that I forgot lol) and the Rosa pizza. I'm a huge fan of vodka sauce in pasta and the Rosa surely won my heart at first bite. One of my friends ordered the Japanese pizza, which also looked delicious. Will I be back? Definitely, just probably not as much since it's bit of a drive from where I'm at. Another pizza/piece of my heart is now with the Sugo shop. :-)

It wasn't overly cornmealish like some of these "authentic" Chicago pizza places. I grew up out here in the west, so I'm used to a more flaky light crust. My first Deep Dish Chicago pizza was Zachary's in Berkeley in the Bay Area. This Costa Mesa location is located just south of the 405 at Harbor Blvd. Go to Baker Street and turn left and it's right there. Easy Parking. One thing you gotta know about the deep dish pizzas, they take longer to cook cause they're just so big and need more cooking time, like maybe 35-40 minutes, depending on how busy the kitchen is. We get a classic combo pizza and have some drinks while we wait. It arrives and oh boy does that look good. Dishing it out takes a little practice, but we're good at that now! Everybody loves the flavor and crust. This isn't the cheapest pizza round, but well worth the price and wait. You want cheap go to Straw Hat or something like that.

The combination gives you the best of both worlds, and the thinner pasta pairs perfectly with the crispy chicken. The Meatballs are another must-order. Four generously sized meatballs served with fresh bread, rich tomato sauce, and plenty of freshly grated Parmesan make for one of the best appetizers on the menu. One of my absolute favorites, though, is the Roasted Cauliflower appetizer. Whatever they do to it is addictive. It's packed with flavor, perfectly cooked, and honestly good enough that I could order two of them along with the chicken parm and leave completely satisfied. For dessert, I never skip the Tableside Tiramisu. Watching it be finished tableside adds to the experience, and it's one of my favorite tiramisus anywhere. If you're someone who doesn't enjoy a pronounced coffee flavor, I'd recommend the Brownie Sundae instead--it won't disappoint.
