The Place 2 Be is a trendy and Instagrammable brunch restaurant. There are currently 5 locations; this one I'm reviewing is in West Hartford, two are in Hartford, New Haven, and Springfield. Parking can be found on-street and at the parking garages, both metered. The space was was hip with its faux tree, swinging chairs, and loud music. It seems to definitely cater more to the crowd in their 20's. Oh no, aging myself lol. My family and I stopped in for drinks and snacks after walking around Blue Back Square. The service was pretty good and friendly. I saw someone drinking the Thirst Trap which is red wine pureed with strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries. It was good but definitely watch out for that brain freeze. They had a vast menu with awesome looking drinks. My husband had one of their waffles; it was huge and decadent. I had the fried deviled eggs, which were pretty good. It's a nice spot for brunch. The menu looked good for both food and drinks. They also have bottomless mimosas. I give this location 4 stars because the service is terrific. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted. I dined alone, and the server was on his toes and treated me kindly. I've been here twice so far. The Blueberry margarita and a boozy salted caramel latte were amazing!. Red white and blue waffles filled with fresh and delicious strawberries, blueberries and bananas drizzled with white chocolate . Crispy buffalo chicken wrap with melted cheese. The service was excellent and the waiters/waitress were VERY attentive. I didn't have to ask for anything. We made another reservation for my sister's 23rd birthday. Everything was as expected. The Place 2 Be in West Hartford is temporarily closed according to a sign posted on the windows by the Department of Revenue Services. According to the sign, the sale & use tax permits have been suspended as of 12:30 on 08/05 by the Department of Revenue Services. No timeline has been announced for their potential reopening. The restaurant has been embroiled in eviction proceedings with Blue Back Square since December 2024 after the restaurant allegedly fell behind on rent payments. A stipulated agreement to the lawsuit was filed on 08/04. According to the agreement, The Place 2 Be will vacate the space on or before March 31st, 2026; they must continue making rent payments through this date. The Place 2 Be currently has 2 locations of their flagship brand; West Hartford & Downtown Hartford. The restaurant previously operated locations in New Haven & Springfield MA. The New Haven location appears to have closed recently, we are working to confirm the closure; the business marked as permanently closed on Google. Calls to the restaurant were not answer. The Springfield eatery was located at the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame before being evicted in late 2024. The Place 2 Be revealed tentative plans to reopen the Springfield location to the Liquor License Board in April; though it has not yet reopened. A Franklin Avenue location of TP2B has been converted to The Bakery by TP2B, with an elevated menu of freshly baked items. Let me start off by saying I really wanted this place to be great, I've been here several times I usually stop here on a road trip at this location and the other chains but this one was by far the best. I just visited this past weekend and for some reason the line that usually wraps around the corner was sparse, and it looked a little slower than usual. The waitress we had was very new, we were letting her know things that was on the menu and she had no idea. She was not very attentive and would be off in the corner just chatting it up with co-workers or scrolling on her phone. As I'm sitting there in reading other reviews and I'm like wow this place is sinking fast, then the food comes and guess who came to the dinner table... a ROACH! I'm like wtf and we try not to trip so I get the waitress, she moves us, I tell her I can not eat my food as it went to my plate but we calmly moved to the bar away from the table area as we hoped it was more safe, finished our drinks and apps. The manager comes over and apologized, then told us how clean the place was (even though most people know when you see one roach there's more to follow). The waitress brings the bill pay machine but doesn't give us the check just says the amount so I'm like, ok that's strange, can we get a print out of the check. So she does and charges us for all the food, even the food I didn't eat, so I point it out to the manager who took off the. The place NOT to be. It seemed the restaurant was understaffed when I came in around 11:15 AM as there were only two people working the tables. The first thing that was wrong is I ordered coffee but they did not explain to me. They serve Americano's, which I would be fine with if they had told me that was the only option available. The next issue is that I ordered the California quesadilla and was instead served the California omelette and just for future reference you get a LOT more food ordering the omelette instead of a quesadilla!! Both of which were extremely dry and with the cheap cutlery they use was difficult to cut. In addition to that, I told them I was willing to eat the omelette because I was so hungry, but they insisted on taking it back to give me the quesadilla which I told them, no, I was hungry! The third issue was that I had to ask for sour cream (super tiny amount they gave) and when you compare the picture included to the one in their online menu, it looks nothing alike and you also see that they put an over abundance of oregano flakes on my food, which was overwhelming. Fourth issue no one ever came to check on me to see if I wanted more coffee or sour cream or if everything came out right. Fifth issue the restaurant was super cold inside and the majority of people were wearing their jackets until I asked they turn the heat up. The interior was VERY instagrammable. The seating, especially the egg chairs, were not clean. The bathroom had a large amount of "water" near the toilet. The toilet paper was sitting on the toilet back instead of being in the toilet roll holder. There were no toilet seat covers. The hand dryer was so strong that it blows water into your face. My companion got a bottomless (served every 20 minutes with a max stay if 90 minutes) drink. The waiter was no where to be seen when the 20 minutes was up. The rosemary potatoes were the star of the show! The omelette was mediocre; it didn't taste as expected. The grilled cheese was made with 3 pieces of bread & 2 different cheeses. It was delicious. The steak came out well done instead of "with a little pink". 20 minutes later, it came out cooked almost correctly. The waiter was inattentive. The overall quality of the food at this restaurant was good. I ordered the Nashville chicken sandwich and my wife ordered the egg breakfast burrito. Our server was excellent and was serving a large group of us (8 people). He remembered our orders correctly and was able to get all of our requests correctly. We additionally ordered "bottomless" mimosas. My biggest issue was that they only served us three mimosas before they pretty much declined to provide any more. This spot is very picturesque and social media picture worthy! The service was great but the food was just meh. I went here with a large party for brunch because they had all you can drink mimosas. The ordering was very confusing and it wasn't until one of the servers explained it that we understood... Kind of... I tried the Cereal Milk Latte with really didn't taste like anything. I ordered the Cinnamon Toast Crunch latte and somehow ended up with Captain Crunch. It was also very annoyed to drink since it had caramel everywhere and it was sort of attached to the tray by frosting. I also ordered the breakfast burrito with veggies. It was alright. Very basic flavoring and no spice. Definitely something I could have made at home with more flavor. The potatoes were amazing though!! So good! Lastly, I had the mimosas. I was so excited to try out The Place To Be today. Weekday, 11am. So based on how crowded/popular it is, thought we'd have a reasonably good chance of getting in. So walking into the foyer, imagine my disappointment on seeing a very dirty rug, and a pretty worn out area greeting us. And it was only 11am - so even with a medium amount of customers, a place that is supposed to be hip/the place to be, should not have been that dirty (it was a bright, sunny day too - so no excuse to have that much dirt tracked in). To be fair, we didn't eat there - perhaps after having the food, I'd give at least 4 or 5 stars. The drinks going by looked amazing. But after sitting down, negotiating the menu on our phone ( wasn't difficult with bar code), and being told to both order from 1 phone if we wanted 1 check, we kept thinking about that dirty rug & wondering how clean the kitchens were... You need to scan a code, bring up the menu on your phone, ok, just like during Covid.. Then sign up for some payment method..... You place your order "on line" as if your are ordering from Amazon. While this might not sound difficult to some, I am sure it is for some patrons. I found it aggravating and annoying. Additionally, the food comes out very randomly even though we all ordered at the same time. Back to our arrival. I made an online reservation at least 5 days in advance. When we arrived they had my reservation and said it would be about 20 mintues. As we sat there I started to notice them seating "parties of three" that arrived after us. I brought it to there attention, we had been forgotten about. My friend summed it up for me. "We come to talk and see each other. I don't want to be staring at my phone. I need a break from it." Tasty and Giant portions but lacking the staff to handle the masses I actually do enjoy the idea of The Place 2 Be. it's that 2010's in-your-face ostentatiousness. Where the hip and the trendy go to post pictures of themselves having a blast with their friends, others living vicariously through them via their snapchat feeds and vines as they go out and party hard with massive drinks and blaring music. I also really like that they make some very large french toasts and bennys. The type that you know is going to ruin your diet, so why not live it up? This Place 2 Be...well it needs a little work. Coming in, the staff is quick to get us to sit and explain the ordering system. They then begin doing their laps, waiting for people to put up their placards indicating that they need help. The girlfriend loads up the phone and begins ordering, while I start taking a look around. most everything looks good on first inspection, but when you start looking at the fake trees and bucket seats is when you start seeing the grime and dust build-up from neglect. The staff is very diligent to make sure the liquor bottles are dusted, but they're missing a lot of spots. We place in our order, then about 30 minutes later my girlfriend gets her meal, then about 10 minutes later mine comes over. No check-ins, no reassurances, no anything. Just a delivery of food and a break away. We were missing napkins, so we put our placard up and wait for service. We have staff walk past our bench multiple times, even our server went past us a couple times. We eventually had to get up and flag down a wandering server in order to get service. I get it, it's a monday morning. hangover from the sunday rush and party, so you keep the squad light and do what you can with what you got. But they were having issues dealing with the smattering of people that wandered in, and the wait times were very long. My guess is they had one cook back there for all their orders? As for the food. it's very pretty, large portions, and tasted pretty decent. It's not the best french toast ever, but it's plentiful and there's more than enough whipped cream and toppings. Even though the bread was not that custardy bite I was looking for, it had the right flavors for what it was. They also use a pretty decent maple syrup, which I always appreciate. It's expensive for french toast, coming in to 17 bucks for two pieces of very thick Challah soaked in egg. but it's very decadent and the portion is enormous. That makes it feel like much more a value than a much smaller portion. Overall, the server issues and wait times really limited our experience at The Place 2 Be. The food's good, not spectacular but tasty enough and more than ample portions. If they can fix their staffing issues and clean up a little bit, this place can be A Place 2 Go To. Concept is a cool idea, and definitely looked nice on the outside looking in. Very instagramable which is key I think. I'm sure it's a poppin place during brunch hours on the weekend. Came in on a weekday early morning. Ordered coffee. We were sitting on the swing chair things but the sun was so bad in my face it was pretty unpleasant. There should be shades at least. Upon looking around, we noticed how dirty the seats were. You can see the sludge and crumbs where the plastic meets the cushion. The fabrics on the booths were stained. We decided to have food elsewhere... so we could eat comfortably and not have the ick lol. We were told items come out as ready, which is fine. But when dropping off our coffees, the runner had my guests order and what I ordered but said it was for another table and then literally less than a min later came with mine. Just seemed counter productive in this case. Staff was nice for the small moments interacting with them... but you order via app and I think that really takes away from the whole being served experience. (Mr. Disappointment - Neil Young) I sure didn't expect my first visit to The Place 2 Be's West Hartford's location to be as disapointing as it was. Here's why: The dining room is very small, and the walk to our table made us walk sideways so we could shimmy and squeeze our way between the chairs and tables in their miniscule aisles. Service was lacking. TP2B is designed for minimal interaction between customers and staff. You order on your phone through a QR code so there's no opportunity to chit chat with a server, ask any questions, or offer special requests. In fact, once you are served water, no one will come to your table unless you move a table card from a horizontal to vertical position - think of it as a smoke signal for service. After we ordered on our phone, the delivery timing of the two meals was way off. My wife's waffles came out first and it was quite a while before my Western omelette came out. You don't get a paper bill for your food. You get a payment prompt on your phone's app as soon as you finish ordering, essentially asking you to tip before the food is even brought to your table. That's no way to judge undelivered food and non-performed service unless you are clairvoyant. Another service deficiency involved summoning a simple "to go" container for my left-over omelet. First I needed to summon our server by flipping that smoke signal of a card from horizontal to vertical, and that took a while to get recognized. When our guy came over, I asked for a container. He walked into the kitchen, walked out of the kitchen with a box, and promptly brought it to another table and never came back. A different server caught sight of my smoke signal card and she promptly brought over a box for me. My Western Omelet was very good - a generous portion of eggs and hash browns and thick toast. It was fairly priced at $13. My wife had a Belgian Waffle ($10) with chocolate chips ($1.99) and she enjoyed it a lot. We shared a very nice regular latte for $3.50. Our lunch before tip was $30.59. This is one of the best places to go for brunch! Everything on their menu is absolutely delicious and the mimosas are fantastic! The atmosphere at any location you visit is amazing and very picturesque so put on your best outfit and get ready for pictures, seriously, every location has designated photo ops. I love how the food always looks too delicious to eat. I love that the food is also very enjoyable to eat too! The latte definitely tasted like almond joy. Asking for the extra hollandaise sauce for $1 is worth it in my opinion. Our server Lucas was very friendly. It's been a while since I last came and I really like that they implemented the flip of the card so that it calls the server's attention and it doesn't take away from the time spent with company or having to look around for a server or our specific server. Very disappointed visiting this location. The ambiance is horrible, how can one possibly sit in that swinging capsule and eat or drink anything, the booths are dirty and worn out. The whole place is not well kept considering the location. The franklin ave location is much better. The staff, there are many of them walking around, but none of them care enough to attend to you. We were the third group in the restaurant and the attention from the waiters were very bad. Just based on the ambiance and the attention from the waiters, we just ordered the coffee and chose not to dine here. Just didn't feel good enough to continue dining here. On every seat it looked like. The decor is a bit confusing. There is butt imagery and bathtub imagery, plants, geometrical patterns and stars- not sure what they are going for. They also have tables with swinging chairs. Swinging chairs are cool. One downside is the booths were dirty. The upholstery had so many stains, we did not want to sit there. You order through your phone. They were out of a lot of the liquors you can add to shakes and the cotton candy and cheesecake which was disappointing. The staff is very nice though and double checked where my food and shake was because it was very delayed. I had the chocolate shake and it was big, enough for two people to share and affordable at $9. It was rich and creamy and chocolatey. Hit the spot. There were chocolate chips in it but only a couple of pieces of Oreo. I feel like they should add more Oreo. The buffalo chicken salad was supposed to have feta but none was on the salad. And it was way too spicy. The chicken was drowned in the sauce which was straight up buffalo sauce, not even a mixture of buffalo and butter. The bar tender did mention the kitchen has been using the wrong sauce lately... Overall decent spot and affordable. A Place to Be Hartford is plain bad for brunch. Had a reservation for 11am for 2 of us. When we arrived, on time, we saw 2 empty booths and approx 3 regular size tables and 1 party of 6 being served already. Without asking if we had a res, we were told it would be 20 min or so. Giant windows, cool view, absolutely freezing in winter ( wore my coat entire time there). *** In any other restaurant, this area we chose wouldn't be considered an eating spot at all. It would be a waiting spot to enjoy a cocktail while waiting for real tables. Anyhow, we sat and were given no menus nor silverware. Five min later a waitress came over and noticed this and apologized - she brought menus. *** My daughter ended up finding silverware for us as no employee ever brought us any. We ordered a hot chocolate ( came fast and was delicious ), and a bloody mary ( came slow and was so bland I repeatedly looked at it thinking maybe a mistake was made and I was given plain tomato juice with vodka. Definitely not a bartender made bloody mary ). Anyhow, we ordered pancakes, a side of home fries, and egg burrito and a piece of french toast. Id like to tell you if the food was good but I can't....after waiting an hour we asked for our check for the two drinks and left. This was my first time coming to this location. It is smaller than the other locations I have been to. Located in between two parking garages or you can park in the street if you are lucky to find a spot nearby. We were seated at a table where one seat is bench seating and the other chair is an egg chair. Not the best seating. My friend felt very unsure about seating in the egg chair and once someone sits in the chair there is very little room for others to pass by. The food was great and service was quick. I thought TP2B would be too trendy to be decent, but it was good food! I got the California quesadilla, my son had the Greek omelette, and my husband got the steak omelette. Everything was satisfying and delicious. My chai tea latte was the only disappointment, as it was thin and watery, but it's nothing to deter me from returning. Service can be wonky, like taking a while to bring the bill out, but maybe it's because we went on a busy Saturday morning and everyone is brunching then. Ambiance is super Instagrammy and trendy, but we didn't feel out of place or unwelcomed at all. The swinging egg chairs are cute! We sat outside and they brought us a high chair. Definitely a great place for social media photos with the bath tub, hanging chairs you can sit in at your table. A great concept that Gina the owner created. I've been to 4 of the 5 businesses. Springfield, MA is the newest one and really big with outside seating. The New Haven one has two floors . They all pretty much have the bathtub that you can photograph and the yellow ducky is the theme you get w all your drinks. I went to meet a friend at The Place 2 Be for brunch earlier today. I've only been once at their Hartford location. The place was packed when we arrived, we were told a table would be ready in 10 minutes. After a short wait, we were offered a table by the window, one of the seats is a swing. The swing looks cool, but it's not practical if you're wearing heels and are trying to avoid slipping around and catching the germy handles. I don't like their order by phone system at all. Instead of socializing with my friend who I haven't seen in over a year, I had to go on my phone to look at the menu, pay over the phone, even tip over the phone, long before I received any type of service. What if my phone wasn't charged? I got their Nutella cappuccino and Nutella Coconut pancakes. My friend got their iced matcha, and waffles with fried chicken. Presentation is everything here. My Nutella cappuccino had Nutella outside the mug, my friend's matcha had "Matcha" written in green matcha powder across the tray. The cappuccino was pretty good, but it was cold, had I wanted cold I would have ordered it as such. Our food portions were huge. We should have gotten one order to share. My pancakes were an actual mountain in front of me. Judging by what everyone else had around me, there is no such thing as small or medium here. Sadly I only had a small portion of my pancakes. I liked my pancakes, but there was an additional $2.00 charge for each of the toppings, coconut, Nutella and strawberries. My friend's chicken and waffles were very tender and tasty. I'm just not really a fan of this place, everything is about pictures, not so much service or quality. read more

I sat here for 20 minutes with my family waiting for service. The doors were open, nobody around. We called the phone number, we sat there while the phone rang for our call and multiple others. What a waste of my limited time. Never again. read more

Such a fun atmosphere! Two problems that we encountered. 1 the seating was tight. People within a foot of us on either side. Customers to one side made us feel so uncomfortable, like we were in their space. The food was gorgeous when it came out but not hot. I don't mind paying more for a cool experience but have a problem with my food being cold. The food did taste good just would have liked it hot and maybe a little more elbow room. Overall we enjoyed our experience. read more

There was a bug in my drink and when I asked for a new one they gave me the same drink and the pancakes tasted like cardboard

This is NOT the place to be. Went for lunch and everything is basically cheap quality, a lot of frozen food that they fry and charge an outrageous price for. Tried to just order a glass of white wine and they would only give me a pre-made sangria, they will not just give you wine. My sister also could not just get a glass of champagne, it had to be a mimosa. Clearly they do this because they hardly give you any alcohol, that's why it's all pre-made. Just simply not a good place. Now that it's not new anymore, the place is almost always empty. read more

This location exceeded my expectations. It's much smaller than the downtown location but the level of customer service that is provided is exceptional. The waitlist was very long as we waited for over an hour and a half and we got 2 small bar tables to sit 5 which we had to just cram in and hope our food doesn't fall off. But with the professionalism of the staff, we made the small space work. Food and drinks were on time and it tasted amazing. I had the chocolate shake drink and the breakfast sandwich and I enjoyed it so much. The prices are very affordable and remember to take your picture in the bathtub. Would return and a new location will be open soon. Can't wait to check it out. read more
