Went this morning, wanted to go to Yolk across from this place but wait was too long. Went here instead. The decor is beautiful and waiters were friendly. I asked for a glass of whole milk and received whole milk like I wanted, not 2%. Got Chicken and Waffles. Waffles were super nice, well made belgian waffles with sugar crystals like it should be. The combination of buffalo sauce and gravy and syrup was surprisingly good. Portion sizes were somewhat small, and chicken was small and only one piece, was expecting at least two. Went here for brunch with some friends by chance since we were planning to go to Yolk across the street but they had over an hour wait. It is a neat, cozy, little pub. I got the Uncle Sam $15.50 which comes with 2 eggs any style, sausage, bacon, hash browns, stack of mini pancakes and your choice of toast or a biscuit with sausage gravy. I got my eggs over easy and they were cooked perfectly. There were 2 pieces of bacon but pretty limp and not crispy like I like. You get 1 sausage link that was pretty good and much larger than normal breakfast links. The pancakes were good but generic. The biscuit was too dry and not fluffy. The gravy was not to my liking and very watery. Overall, okay substitute for brunch but would not go out of my way. read more

I was recently in Dallas and stopped at this restaurant while my friend was sleeping in. I can't say enough wonderful things about my sever Ginny. I was dining alone and I've never felt more comfortable. Ginny made me feel incredibly welcomed. Her service was beyond remarkable! We were looking for a place to have brunch before going to a concert. We checked out Yolk, but it had a long wait and actually wasn't that good the last time we ate there. We saw a sign for this place and decided to check it out. So glad we did. Being an Irish Pub, I had to have a pint of plain. After the appropriate wait, my pint of black gold arrived. Early lunch on a Sunday before a show at Winspear. Carefree pub setting which I liked. Good service, not in our face constantly but when we needed something we got it. Ordered items: scotch eggs, fish and chips and Irish skillet. Top item was the scotch eggs, served on a wonderfully light mustard sauce. I would go back just for those eggs. The fish and chips were good, not great. Wish the batter had been thinner. I appreciated that malt vinegar was a table top condiment, a must for my fish and chips. I usually skip the coleslaw in places because they always make it too sweet for me, but theirs was so good and light that I ate the entire thing. The Irish skillet will be skipped next time, not terrible just not enough corned beef. We got the Guinness ice cream to share for dessert. I liked it, my companion didn't. They had a great selection of happy hour drinks and menu I enjoyed. I highly recommend the scotch eggs. A few weeks later I brought a few friends but on a Saturday night. I figure every establishment, let alone management would have to make that statement. I looked up reviews on the place and they all seemed to mention the fish and chips. I decided to give the dish a whirl. I don't consider myself a fish and chips connoisseur, but as your average foodie, this might be the best fish and chips I've ever had! I don't know what sorcery they perform on this batter, but it absolutely sets it apart from any other fish I've had. The breading is crispy, fluffy, and flavorful all while maintaining its consistency (I hate anything breaded where the batter just flakes away Thanos-style). The fish itself stayed moist and flaky. Altogether with the citrus from the lemon wedge, acidity of the slaw, some malt vinegar, and tartar sauce, it doesn't get much better than these fish and chips. read more

Looked like a pub, felt like a pub, served like a pub! I was a little hesitant to stay, because pubs aren't really my vibe. However, we stayed because the food menu sounded delicious! We started off with sharing the pretzel, cause you can never go wrong with pretzel. For drinks, we each had a mule and an espresso martini. For my entrée, I got the curry. The curry is a hit if you are a curry fan, one of the best I've ever had. I highly recommend everything we had! Very glad we stayed and enjoyed our evening here. My FIL and I had their version of a Rueben (came on a pretzel bun); it was excellent. My wife had the Shepard's Pie and it too was good (a tad greasy; but, understandable due to the lamb). My top shelf margarita was good but the server asked my preference for the rim (salt, sugar, tajin) but then brought it to me opposite of what I requested. Love. This. Place. Service was fantastic. It was packed on the Friday evening we were there, but were quickly seated and received our drinks within five minutes of arriving. We ordered the pretzels- oh my yum. Can't decide if I preferred the mustard or cheese they came with. Drinks were great. I think our favorite part was the ambiance- despite the loud crowd (which didn't bother us at all), it felt warm and cozy. Added bonus- my husband left his credit card and wasn't able to go back for it for two days- they kept his card safe and secure. Very honest employees! We love this place, we hit it at least twice a month before we head home from work. Their bar is excellent, seriously, not everyone has good bar tenders or gives their staff the alcohol and tools to make a great drink. They carry The Botanist Gin, Rittenhouse Rye... they really have a spectacular list of offerings. Food: Simply Unbelievably Good. Seriously. Fish & Chips are worthy of England herself, no kidding. The dunk wings with orange marmalade glaze--- amazing! Scotch Eggs, yum. The Charcuterie Board is phenomenal with excellent breads and crackers, and 3-4 amazing jams like fig and jalapeño raspberry (they change sometimes) ... the corned beef stack is wonderful.... We love this place, and the service, it's amazing too! The bartenders, wait staff, the kitchen, all top notch people with attentive service, without being too attentive. The bf and I went there to get me un-hangry after a Dallas Chamber Orchestra performance and O.M.G.! This place was life changing for me. I love going to the DCO and the DSO, but getting to go to the Playwright afterwards is the icing on the cake. Not only are the drinks amazing, but the curry sauce is OUT OF THIS WORLD! I have had dreams about their curry sauce. Seriously, they should bottle that stuff it's so amazing... on EVERYTHING! Perfect balance of spice, sweet, and heat. On to the fish and chips. I'm not usually a fish and chips fan, but the bf is and the first time we went there he had me try some of his and now I LOVE fish and chips. As long as it comes from the Playwright. I grew up in Wisconsin, where the Friday Fish Fry is an institution at every restaurant and corner bar in the state and nowhere in my beloved home state can come CLOSE to the fish and chips at the Playwright. Do yourself a favor- go see the Dallas Symphony or Dallas Chamber Orchestra (or both) and then treat yourself before or after the show to the fish and chips and some curry fries at The Playwright... who knows, you may also meet some of the musicians there as well! :) read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. On one hand, I enjoyed my tully mule and some of the food items. On the other hand, some things need some improvements (mostly in the customer service area). The good: - I love that the happy hour menu is published on the website. This helped me in my planning for our company pub night. - Decent drink specials during happy hour - Cheese curds - Pretzel - Boneless wings - Sweet potato fries - They validate parking The not-so-great: - Staff need better training on how to give customers parking validation instructions. When I called, I was told that they validate inside. When I parked, walked into the business, and asked about parking validation, I was told that I needed the QR code posted at the parking lot. Why does the business not have a photo of this QR code or the URL handy? I literally had to walk back out and to the parking lot to grab this information. - I would skip the Irish tacos next time (my dumb ass ordered one of everything from the happy hour food menu but thankfully the tacos were eventually eaten) - The mussels were in a creamy sauce that kinda hardened cuz it was a rather chilly day. I wonder if I would have enjoyed this dish had I eaten it when it first came out, but I got to it late and it was just not a good look. So if you order it, eat it fast while it's hot. - Our awesome server seemed to have a lot of tables and sometimes it was challenging to get her attention - Despite us having spent almost $500, we got charged $2 for extra crostini for the spinach and artichoke dip So I may go back and stick to what worked for us, and now I know how the parking validation works. read more

Why did it take me so long to come here!? This spot is great! Located right near the AT&T performing arts and Symphony, it's a great spot to come to before a performance. We stopped in before a Gala event at the Symphony, and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks first. They have a very extensive drink menu, with great beers on tap and tons of whiskey and bourbon. I ordered an old fashioned, and it was sooooo delicious!! Our eyes had a big appetite, so we ordered the duck wings, cabbage egg rolls, scotch eggs, and a burger. The food came pretty quick after ordering. We started with the scotch eggs. Yum! How can you go wrong with battered and fried eggs with gravy?! Then we went right into the duck wings. Money! The tangy and sweet sauce on them was on point. The burger was also good, but a bit salty. Overall, the food was great! The cost was also very reasonable. For $75, we had 2 alcoholic drinks, 3 appetizers, and a burger.
