Unbelievably bad service. Stopped off to shop a package before leaving on vacation. After waiting at the desk for 10 minutes while the clerk helped another customer the clerk told me he didn't have time to help me because he had to close the store which was open when I arrived 5 minutes before closing time. Then he lied to my face about when I had arrived at the store despite I was standing INSIDE the store. When I expressed disbelief that he wouldn't help me, he proceeded to challenge me to a fight and called me a coward because I decided that "I wasn't going to do something about it." Avoid this establishment at all costs. FedEx on Stanton is a better choice. read more

I honestly can't believe anyone who's gone in this place has had a positive experience. First off, when I walked in the guy behind the counter didn't even get up. It smelled like cigarettes and he sounded like I was bothering him by trying to ship a package. Then they want to charge you $4 for a basic 1 page black and white print. For comparison, a real fedex charges you 25-50cents. That's quite the mark up! When I ask asked why it was so much more he told me I probably just shouldn't do business in this shop. Do not trust Postal Chase with your mail. On a Monday I dropped off an important package and paid them $50 to ship it via UPS 2nd day air with guaranteed delivery. The package didn't arrive as expected, so I used the tracking number and found out that Postal Chase did not even give my package to UPS for 3 days! And keep in mind, these were week days! Because of their incompetence, my wife didn't get her passport in time for an international business trip. When I confronted Kimberly at the front desk about this (the same person who processed my order days earlier), she didn't even apologize, saying it was UPS's fault for not picking up the packages from them. When I tried to speak to the manager, he didn't return my calls or emails. I would not trust this business with so much as a postcard. Go directly to a shipper like UPS, USPS or FedEx to send packages, as at least that way there's some accountability. Postal Chase took no responsibility for this, didn't refund me, and didn't even apologize. You can bet I'll never go there again and will warn anyone who will listen to stay away. read more

I can't think of anything too special about this place but it gets the job done when you want to send a package or fax. You can buy packaging supplies there and sending a fax here was cheaper than sending it from the postal place on Haight, near Masonic. I've been there a few times and they've always been very pleasant and helpful. The line moves slowly but that's probably not their fault. All I can say is... you get what you pay for. I love this place, because they're friendly, helpful, and remember your name!! Plus, they provide you with a purchase price through several delivery companies, so it's not a surprise when you're paying. I buy and sell on ebay, so a central location to mail and receive items is wonderful.... The USPS reminds me of the DMV, so I rather use The Postal Chase and have my visits be a good one, rather than some old lady yelling at me to hurry and move for the next person in line. I have seen the employees at a low tempo, but after seeing them work during the Christmas season I now know why... they're tired. I sit behind a desk all day, so I couldn't imagine doing all the physical labor they do (I've also had them box the craziest shapes and sizes... quite impressive). Attempted to drop off a pre-paid UPS package and was chastised by the staff for not adhering to the package dimension guidelines, of which there are none. Since I mostly work out of a home office, I started using the Postal Chase a few months ago, and found out that I could circumvent trips to both Kinko's...er, I mean FedExKinko's...and the Post Office. They've got two great copy machines, good fax rates and they can take care of all your shipping and postage needs. Plus, you can take heart in the idea of supporting another local business run by some friendly, cool guys. Still puzzled that the Cole Valley location has been getting bad reviews. I've done now 2 tricky shipping tasks with them lately (overnighting frozen Tamales inter-state) and the women who helped me twice was unphased and got everything done quickly without fuss, helping with additional packaging and processing quickly. I tried a messy scanning job today and again pretty helpful and got the job done quickly at a reasonable price. Not sure it varies by person helping but so far have only had great experiences here. read more

Poorly staffed and overpriced. Went with the three month box rental to test service. They have inconsistent package pickup protocol. They would stuff my box with the previous renters mail and they want an additional fee to check my box outside of business hours. This last irritates me the most I think as it involves charging me a monthly fee for the keypad access code on top of my box rental. I love the Postal Chase. It's a quintessential neighborhood business. I work in the neighborhood out of my home and the people who work there are like my coworkers. Always pleasant, friendly, and helpful. We've used their mailbox and package signing service for several years now it's a godsend. I don't know what we would do without it! They also offer extras like copies, faxing, and have an awesome free-use three hole punch onsite. If you're upset about the markup on shipping packages, do what every other small business does and open up an account with UPS, Fedex or USPS. Then you can bring your package by and drop it off AT THE POSTAL CHASE. All three services pick up there regularly. For the one-off people who only ship at Christmas- you are paying a neighborhood premium for what you are getting. Just the way it goes. If you don't like it, feel free to stand in line at the Clayton/Haight post office or any of the Kinkos/UPS stores around town and see how happy you are with THEM! The Postal Chase rules. The Postal Chase should be avoided at all costs. Yes you can drop off a package to be picked up and delivered by either FedEx or UPS but the Cole Valley location will not give you a receipt acknowledging you gave them the package. If you need a place to have your packages delivered, or a PO Box, this is the place. The people behind the counter are always nice. They'll let you borrow their trolley if your packages are big and heavy. And you get the convenience of someone accepting your packages when you're not there. (Some of us don't have doormen, can't get packages shipped to work, or have a shop on the groundfloor that will sign for them) Plus, as everyone else has mentioned... they're great when you need to ship something out too. read more

I've never been so mistreated in my life simply wanting to ship a package. Christian is the rudest person I've ever come into contact with. I never write reviews but feel I needed to in order to warn others. He got so upset with me for wanting to simply watch my package be packed up insinuating that I didn't trust the staff, which was not the case at all. It was a complicated order with several packages and I just wanted to make sure each item went into the right box as I've had issues with this in the past. I don't think it's that uncommon to watch someone perform the services you just paid them for. I apologized if I had offended him in any way and he could just not let it go, continuing to yell at me. Talk about service plus. I suddenly found my driver's license missing. After thinking it through I remembered I had made photocopies of it for tax purposes the week before... Went over and they immediately handed it to me and were quite apologetic as they had no contact information for me on record, but were sure I would return. I've had a box here for about a year that I use for my business and occasionally for packages. Before that, I used them a lot because I liked the former manager. He bent over backwards for my business and did everything from making sure my small packages would get delivered all over the world to bulk mailings of gifts for hundreds of clients. Since this manager left, I have not needed to do the same kinds of mailings, but I doubt I'd ask them, since I don't have the same relationship with the staff. There has a been a fair amount of turnover, but as others point out, the owners probably keep their costs down by not paying well. Most staff have been pretty nice. I've seen them get treated really badly by customers and, understandably, get frustrated, and I pretty much always agree with them for being sharp with customers who are being disrespectful and rude. Generally, I see customers behaving badly more often than I see staff showing attitude. But as I and others on Yelp said, with the turnover, it seems like just when I get to know someone, they are gone. If you want cheap, go to the post office at Haight and Clayton. For convenience, this place is great. The copy machine works well and never has a line, too. Too bad they can't seem to keep staff - it really does make a difference, and I'm more likely to go somewhere else if I have a mailing project that is crucial and requires more attention. Also, there are long lines during peak times, but I find that to be true at *every* mail place, so I don't really blame them for that. They could probably stand to have 3 people working during rush (and often do) but their counter is so small that I don't think they could do much with a 4th person. And about the address mistakes... the staff *always* asks me to read the receipt and put my initials, to confirm the address is correct. If all these folks below had things mail to the wrong place, it seems like they either dropped off the package and never checked or signed off on the wrong address. read more

Consistently the worst service I've ever had. Staff seems disinterested in helping. Always an excuse about why they can't do something that's listed as a standard service (e.g. passport photos, shipping). Should change their close time to reflect the time that they actually refuse to do anything, which is usually well before their posted hours. I've generally had a good experience here. It's hit or miss, with either having to wait in line without being acknowledged, or being courteously helped. It really depends on who is working. I've been going to Postal Chase in Cole Valley for years, and have seen the staff come and go, as they do. The current staff is by far the worst (save for one employee) and have no desire to help customers. I went in a few weeks ago about 10 to six and the woman behind the counter told me if my transaction took more than ten minutes I'd have to come back tomorrow. Luckily, it didn't, but seriously? Also, she had me close the door behind me on the way out. I was in today and had by far the worst experience to date. The young man who "helped" me was rude, condescending and was rolling his eyes while helping me (I was making a simple purchase). Clearly the high pressure work of postal associate is not for him. I paid for 2 day Priority Mail shipping on a Friday at 5:39pm. The woman helping me told me my package would arrive by Monday or Tuesday in San Diego. Instead, the package didn't even get delivered by Postal Chase to the postal service until 6:30pm on Monday. It took Postal Chase 3 full days to get my package into the hands of the carrier!!! AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU NEED YOUR PACKAGES SHIPPED PROMPTLY. They are open right now, but no one answers their phone. The voicemail doesn't even say you've reached Postal Chase, so who knows whose number it is. The email on their website doesn't work. So forget about customer service. I had even been paying their ridiculous prices to fax tons of documents without complaint. They have lost this customer. read more

Cool products. Great (and cool) staff with can-do attitudes. Very accommodating (and cool about) services beyond the usual. I've asked them to prepare return specialty envelopes to be inserted into outgoing packages via different shippers, print Google directions, assist with packaging dozens of time sensitive outgoing gifts, notary services along with faxing, etc. The local U.S.P.S. even refers people to Postal Chase for better box options and delivery services. The staff goes above and beyond to find best price options without being asked to do so and the quality of their work is outstanding. They are an asset to the Cole Valley neighborhood and really maintain that local feel. read more

The Postal Chase is the perfect solution for safely receiving packages. I always hear about packages being stolen from doorsteps in the neighborhood and I never have to worry about that with The Postal Chase. I've had a mailbox at the Cole Valley location for three years now and have had a great experience. The staff is friendly and know me by name:) The annual price is reasonable for the peace of mind to ship anything there and have them receive it -- even when I'm out of town. They send an email to notify me whenever they receive a package. It's always secure and I've never had any issues. Since they are an independent business, they do charge a service fee to create a shipment via FedEx, UPS, or USPS but you can drop off pre-paid shipments for FedEx and UPS for free. I love the service and am happy to support a neighborhood business. I appreciate that they contribute to the Cole Valley neighborhood cleanup fund and participate in various community events. Highly recommend checking them out... even if you just walk in to grab a piece of candy, say hello, and browse the small retail section. read more

Needed to make a couple of copies, and this place was on my way from work. Due to printer set up, I accidentally made extra copies I didn't need. There was a sign that you pay full price for mistakes unless they shred it for you. Fine. The girl at the counter took my money, finished transaction, and left my copies on her KEYBORD! I told her that I actually need it to be shredded in front of me (I already was surprised she didn't do it right away). Then she took my copies and placed them in a trash can somewhere in the back. I had to ask her to bring it back to me from that trash can! She started arguing, and the whole way she handled the situation and talked to me was VERY unprofessional. Sometime OK customer service, sometimes really bad. I guess it depends. I've been there several times where there is a long line and the employees don't smile or say "sorry for the wait" but work with their back turned toward you so you feel completely unacknowledged. Even if you just want to ask what time the mailman comes. And when you do they act completely put out like "um - my back toward you means wait in line." One morning there were several people inside in line but the door was locked. Knocked and angry employee comes outside and snaps "we're closed - stop knocking" and slams the door back on us... um - you looked open and it was 10:30 am ... thanks for being polite. I will avoid this place if I can. A couple times I've been there when they were nice. But not consistent. read more
