After moving to Northern California from Indiana, we decided to take a weekend to decompress from the move, and ended up in Half Moon Bay. Looking for a place for breakfast, we drive the short distance towards a famous surf break called Mavericks, and came to The Press. Such an awesome coastal feel to the place. Really reminds me of Solano Beach or Ocean Beach in San Diego county. The food was great!! The coffee is nice and strong. I highly recommend this place when in the area! read more

TLDR: Great food, terrible service. Rude, belittling people at the front who have no patience if you have food restrictions/allergies. My partner is gluten intolerant. Not 'prefers gluten free food' intolerant, more like 'needs surgery from gluten damaging his insides' intolerant. So breakfast is really hard and we often have to ask questions before committing to eating anything. We went to The Press a few times because they have gluten free bread. The past 2 times we have been there, we have asked about GF options and the front staff have been incredibly rude. We get it, the soup isn't available before lunch--no need to be rude, raise your voice, or talk down to customers who are just trying to figure out what they can eat. To be clear, there was no line and we deliberately waited to ask Qs so we wouldn't hold anyone up or cause problems. We're not here to be picky or cause trouble. We just want to eat safely. The food is great, btw--I'm deeply disappointed we will no longer be attending. If you don't have food restrictions, consider stopping by. But be aware that you may run into people comfortable disrespecting you if you do have any restrictions. read more

Rudeness, combined with occasional food related incidents backed by multiple health violations reported by the state seems to be core brand values to expect from the Press. Sad that customer service seems to be selective and positive for the locals, but so negative for anyone who is "new". Shame. read more

I went to The Press on vacation and their coffee was really good. I enjoyed a vanilla latte. However, the next day I went back and ordered the same thing and it was bad wrong and tasted very watery. So their coffee is really good but maybe their employees vary their recipes. Lots of their food items were also very good. I have been going to The Press for over 10 years now. Today is the last time. Prices higher than ever. BLAT with ice tea$21.30 Cmon. To top it off i had to ask for my change from a 10 and 20 dollar bills. Flustering at the register the cashier brought me change later. And shorted me $5..... Not sure what was going on in this place. I got there around opening time. There were plenty of employees, especially in the kitchen, but some basic restaurant chores were being ignored. The tables were dirty, and the floor was upswept and unmopped. No breakfast pastries because someone had forgotten to pick them up. The cashier/greeter was friendly and apologetic about the state of things, but offered no reasons why it was like that (as I wrote, plenty of employees on duty, all congregating in the kitchen and singing to loud music.) When my food arrived, it was a disappointment. The meat and eggs in my "scramble" were served separately, which in my mind, is not a scramble, it's meat and eggs. The food was OK, but nothing to write home about. Our server provided us with one napkin between two patrons, and we had to ask for basic table condiments, like salt, pepper and butter for our breakfast toast. Cannot recommend and will not be returning. This place needs some adult supervision. read more

I love this little local place. I tend to come to Montara beach often, and this is become one of my regular Haunts. The staff is always friendly, the coffee is good and plentiful, and I like talking with the locals. They are always so interesting and friendly. I'm glad that there's still seating, Albeit the patio, Which is a lot colder, since I come very early in the morning for breakfast and coffee, but if you can endure the chill, everything else really makes you feel at home. I shouldn't say this, but I always get way too much bacon on my plate. Other than that, I hope the indoor portion gets open soon, and if you want a nice little local place for good coffee and food, including the baked goods, then The Press is the day place! read more

However on a recent visit, i had the wet burrito, and the meat was inedible: gristly, overcooked, fatty - I pushed it all to the side. We would have missed this spot if it weren't for the big sign on the side of the house that says The Press, and the balcony full of people eating and socializing. Grilled cheese definitely caught my interest however they were unavailable at the time I went. Ordering was easy, we pay at the front before they seat us. So, keep in mind that you can not seat yourself. Honestly, I love this idea. I'm all for it. We were lucky enough to get seated right away, I guess all the people waiting outside were taking theirs to go. I mean, the ocean is right across the street so that's understandable. I love love love how their orange juice tastes so fresh because it issss freshly squeezed! Makes me don't want any store bought orange juice at all. I ordered the lobster Benedict and let me just say ohhh my goodness. It's sooo good. I received a good amount of lobster meat which I'm quite happy about. Went to the press for the first time when visiting half Moon Bay yesterday, it was one of the best breakfast we've had in a very long time. However, I was disappointed that the price I was charged did not match the price on their online menu, which I referenced before deciding to come in. Super cute place with a good view. The wait staff was nice and hard working and the store was clean. We did however not get our orders correctly, I had ordered the lox bagel with no onion, and they brought me one with cucumber on the side (with onion). My friend ordered the bagel egg sandwich with ham and no cheese, it came out with cheese and bacon. They remade it for her quickly but made it with bacon, not ham. I don't normally get to go out for breakfast but I had just attended an overnight wedding at Oceano Hotel and Spa and wished to find a place to stop on our way out of town. Wow! I was so impressed with this food! I have a strict diet and eat very clean. The crab omelette I ordered was so perfect. I asked for it without white sauce and it was amazing. Ah, The Press!! This is one of my absolute favorite places to grab food in the East Bay. I've tried both locations and have had a delicious meal each time. Will never pass down an opportunity to eat here :) FAVORITES: -Paninis (their portions are pretty big on these which is awesome, and you get a generous serving of salad as well!) My top ones are: 1. Smoked Turkey Avocado Provolone (really can't go wrong) 2. Roast Beef Jalepeno Triple Cheese -Drinks: I honestly think every drink here would be super solid, but these are some I've tried and loved: 1. Matcha Latte (soooo good) 2. Iced Chai (the Livermore location has a chai lavender that's really great) 3. Vanilla Latte (classic and not to sweet!) I am apparently a glutton for punishment (as well as onion rings). I have visited the press 20 times in the last 18 months. I have eaten there 10 times. Why not 20/20? Simple- the Press likes to randomly close hours before their posted times. Call ahead? Nice try...they don't answer the phone except on rare occasions, and they don't update their phone message with an automated response telling you they have closed early. The food is great. We went there after a day of photography at Half Moon Bay, and their eggs benedict with arugula and proscuitto hit the spot - perfectly poached eggs, not too heavy on the sauce, just perfection. Freshly baked goods and farm-to-table hearty meal offerings ranging from avocado toast to huevos ranchos to mac n' cheese (grilled cheese is a signature dish). Seating is both indoor and outdoor. Went here for late breakfast on a Saturday, the location is great and from the outside it looks amazing. Ordered the avocado toast and my partner got pancakes. Toast was burnt and pancakes were really dry, we had to wipe off our own table, plus they forgot to bring an ordered item to us. Barely ate the pancakes because they were dry and flavorless. It felt like we had to do everything, which is not what you want in an eating experience. My absolute favorite cafe/breakfast spot on the coast. The staff are amazing (special shout-out to Rene) and they handle the challenge of the high volume weekends super professionally. Their house-made bagels are incredible. I usually get either the onion or the sesame with the garlic-veggie or the sun-dried tomato spread. Big fan of the coffee as well. Value is great, too, especially if you stick to regular coffee and bagels/baked goods like I do. But I've never been disappointed by their bigger breakfasts either. Need to try their Chicken and Waffles sometime soon. Overall, an extraordinary local spot that I feel lucky to be able to support. Thank you to everyone who makes it happen. read more
