Well this place was quite the let down! In town for the wife's birthday and woke up wanting to grab breakfast. This place was nearby our hotel so we decided to walk over and check it out. The reviews were decent, so figured it couldn't be that bad. Holy smokes were we wrong. Guess I should have checked the recency of some of the reviews. How does a place offer a crab and avocado omelette and then up charge you for real crab ($8) and also the avocado($5)! Not to mention they are still charging a surcharge for items containing eggs($4)! That was the wife's $37 omelette that she said was mediocre at best! I went ahead and had the special which was an eggs Benedict! How does a place offer a special that cannot even be cooked right? Came with hard boiled eggs and a canned hollandaise! It was awful, I thought about sending it back which is something I never do, but then figured it probably would not change anything so I choked it down! The only thing that was ok, and I mean just ok, was the coffee. This place is atrocious, avoid at all costs! For two people, with a 20% tip (would have been different if it was table side service, but had to tip at the counter while ordering) it was $87! read more

This place has sooo much potential. The views and little house is adorable. My husband and I are on an end of the yr getaway and stopped at this place. Customer service was GOOD! Nice and clean I ordered a fresh squeeze OJ and a Lox sandwich on Jalapeño and cheese bagel! My babe got pancakes, eggs and bacon. My sandwich was delicious. The bagel was freshly made and they aren't shy with the cream cheese. My babe didn't like his as much. He asked for well done bacon( he likes it burnt) and they gave it just the opposite. He didn't like the taste of the pancakes as he said the batter wasn't good! So that's why I only gave 4 stars.. Don't take my word for it.. go check this place out for yourself!!! read more

Mmmm haven't had a cozy crispy oozy grilled cheese and tomato basil soup in a long time! "The Press" def lives up to its name for pressed crispy sandwiches. Came here after a nice hike at Devil's Slide after a split second decision to turn back away from the October pumpkin patch traffic during lunchtime. Location is across the large road from the Marina. I was pretty impressed! And easy parking is a plus. On their menu are a large array of cafe staples, bagels, grilled sandwiches, and breakfast. You order at the counter inside and have the option to sit (assigned if crowded--they have someone quickly cleaning tables) in their little patio area or get takeout. I got the American Grilled Cheese and a side of Tomato Basil Soup. Super comforting with crispy thick bread, and oozy pull-apart cheese! The soup was perfect for dipping as tomato basil soup always is--a smoother version of marinara sauce IMO. My bf got the philly cheese steak which was also yummy--more crispy bread than classic phillys but a pretty damn tasty pressed sandwich! Came with a heaping mound of crispy fries as well. Both sandwiches with sides set us back about ~$26 with tip. Would definitely come back if I was in the area! My most recent visit will be my last visit. I don't care how short staffed you are or how inexperienced your staff is, I have expectations when I go out to eat and spend my money. Got berated by the cashier when I misunderstood the sign on their door. It happened in front of a patio full of diners. Not ok. Our server pulled silverware out of his apron pocket. When the knife fell back into his pocket, he asked my friend if she needed a knife. She said no and he left it on the table anyway. I asked the same server for a box for my leftovers. He disappeared. His colleague brought out a box but didn't know where to go so he brought the box back inside. I had to go chase down the box. My breakfast burrito was tasty just like other visits. The cheese wasn't fully melted and the potatoes on the side had no flavor. The kicker was the fecal smell from the area next to the outdoor patio. Every time the wind shifted, I could smell it. I have seen a homeless woman outside the patio on two previous visits. I'm sorry for her situation. I'm sorry for The Press. I can't be the only customer who has noticed this stench. Not appetizing After all the drama yesterday, I won't be back. It's a shame as I really liked their place. The love affair is over. read more

ever since i walked by this café on a whim, i knew i had to eat here one day...patio in front of the main dining area, overlooking the beach?? yes please! my first visit was pre-pandemic, and i was in hmb for a morning solo run and decided to grab a quick breakfast here. i had most of the patio to myself which was awesome. i got to enjoy the view on a clear, sunny day. the food? yum, i had a 3 egg veggie scramble, egg white mixed with artichokes, peppers, onions, spinach, tomato, with a biscuit on the side. instead of home fries, i subbed with mixed greens. this was a nice looking plate, and i had my protein, carbs and veggies, perfect for post-run! on my second visit, i came during the height of the pandemic, but restaurant dining was once again allowed, so i came with some friends and we were lucky enough to snag a few tables on the patio. i got the same dish, since i enjoyed it so much the first time around! on my third visit, a year and a half into the pandemic, i once again came solo, very spontaneously, and ordered the breakfast wrap with scrambled eggs, artichokes, peppers, onions, spinach...i even got it in a green spinach wrap! this came with toast on the side, and was super filling and delicious. this time, i actually took it onto the beach, and ate it while gazing into the ocean! the staff are wonderful, so friendly and helpful. i wish there was more indoor dining, esp for the cooler days, but their outdoor patio is just perfect. there is some parking onsite, but lots more along the streets. located just across the street from the beach and about 10 minutes north of downtown half moon bay. convenient to highway 92. read more

I was really looking forward to The Press before ending our relaxing weekend getaway. Unfortunately, Jamie at the front counter was very unwelcoming, unfriendly, and possibly racist. She did not say hello, was extremely short with us and pulled her pay screen away from me as I was still finishing up with my tip. As we stood back waiting for our order, we noticed her smiling at lighter skinned patrons and again rude and cold to darker skinned patrons. She didn't write our names on our drinks, so by the time we went for our drinks the barista said oh someone else must have grabbed your drink because that one was announced already. It was ordered as an add shot but did not reflect that on my cup so when I asked the barista she hesitantly said "oh yea it is." Our to go food did not have cutlery (food was tied in bag so assumed it was in there) so we had to head back in for that. I asked for the young lady's name that took our order and only then did she nervously smile and say Jamie knowing I would probably complain. I am not one to complain and trust me I did want to after I saw the dirt under her nails. Business owners should not have someone who represents their business in such an unwelcoming and unpleasant way. Food was good but it didn't make up for the horrible customer service. I really love this place. I drove from San Francisco to sit in their porch and enjoy their vista; sip on a nice cup of coffee, enjoy an open face lox and bagel sandie. I surprised myself with a bowl of soup , too. Being mid week day it was not crowded: I was along in my private Idaho. Service is pretty darn good. The barista and order person was excellent: they always seem to be; the right personality and skill set. They know their stuff: even the ingredients of the fabulous tomato soup! Interesting though: I was served my sandie by kitchen staff and they were unaware of the soup add on: it seems the soup is served by the front of the house. Not s great system since they are focused on being fabulous; repressing the brand. I wish they considered the freshness of the coffee over the amazing variety. I had two different flavors and while ok they were only warm and bland. Also I was not able to truly appreciate the ingredients when choosing based on the description: usually a coffee flavoring is a bend of subtle elements from the other plant life supporting the coffee trees and fruit; in this case, the flavoring is actually the intense flavor of each element listed. Add on: I was there towards the end of the day, so... The bathroom is located inside the kitchen: don't be shy. However, I am wondering about people waiting to use it: standing too close to the food prep area. The place is cavernous: they should have live music and dancing every day! I do wish someone would either tear down the large building blocking the view from the deck or replace the solid walls with glass windows. Or, it becomes an annex to The Press. In its various hay days the building represented a few different attempts at 4-star dining; I ate there once in one iteration. But now it is a sore. I wish the lox sandie was better though: the bagel was one of the best I have ever had, however, the lox was minimal for an expensive sandie; the quality ok but not buttery; I did enjoy the mix of condiments however: well prepared. read more

Batter tasted like it belonged on fish and chips, chicken dry, waffles ugh....eggo are better. Tried a short stack of pancakes ....a bag of krusteaz taste better when made in your own kitchen. I also had the press bagel piled with eggs, spinach, cheese, avocado......don't you know you can cook with a little salt and pepper. Atleast I can say, we tried it once. The food here is great! Beware -- they have very strict rules around seating. You are not allowed to seat yourself, you have to be be placed on a waiting list for a table. Some people follow these rules, some don't. Don't try to get food to go and be put on a waiting list for a table to see if one opens up while you wait -- that's not allowed!! So be prepared for a little confusion if you plan to eat at the restaurant. I personally think this rule is very unnecessary as most adults can figure out how to seat themselves. My mom's bagel sandwich was a generous portion but really sloppy, burnt eggs and tons of cheese and bacon (you would think was a good thing, but it wasn't) My mom is so sweet and offered to switch breakfast but honestly both looked unappetizing and I would rather her eat what looked better to her. Cozy cafe on the east side of the highway with a glorious patio. The employees are so friendly, and the menu is awesome. There is something for everyone. I had a delicious breakfast burrito with yummy potatoes to the side. They have a fantastic selection of pastries too! Though I only enjoyed them with my eyes, but next time I will try one. My favorite part of The Press is their array of coffee! So many drip options and flavors! Decided to finally try this place on a Thursday morning. I can see how this place can get busy on the weekends as it is small and limited indoor/outdoor seating. I ordered the brioche french toast that came with fresh strawberries, banana, and apples. It was a huge portion and pretty good. I also ordered a soy chai latte with 2 espresso shots (dirty chai). The service excellent and fast. However the only downside is the outdoor seating had a lot of bees flying around and trying to get my food. They didn't really bother me at first but the longer I sat, the more bees came. So I would say don't sit on the patio if you are scared of bees and want to enjoy your meal. read more

You have a choice of 6+ different coffees and free refills. We tasted the vanilla favored, Hawaii Kona and French roast. All were very good. We look forward to our next visit for lunch. This was a whole mess. First of all, their COVID precautions are terrible. You have to go indoors to order, the door is shut so there's no ventilation, and they don't limit how many people can go inside so it's way too crowded and chaotic. Their ordering system involved customers going back and forth frantically bumping into each other while the woman taking orders was snapping at us and making things feel more frantic. Decided to give this place another try after being disappointed last time. I ordered their Denver Omelette-- at first glanced it looked ok. Once I cut into it I knew it was going to be mediocre at best. I'm sorry but the onions, bell peppers, and ham were a major turn off. They were cut in BIG chunks. When ever I see this, I immediately think the kitchen is lazy and could care less of how the food goes out. Overall I'll give my omelette 2/5 My sister ordered their BLTurkey & Cheese, she enjoyed it, said gives it a 3/5. And would definitely buy it again. My husband got the breakfast burrito without sour cream. Kudos for them remembering to not include it. He only ate half so I'm not sure if that's a good thing? stopped by for lunch on a weekday afternoon and it was pretty quiet. service was pretty friendly and all but wow it was pricy. we were a group of 7 dining in and were charged an auto 20% gratuity so a sandwich and medium latte ran me $28 (Ouuuchhhh). and for that much for a sandwich i was hoping it'd be good but the flavors for the cubano were just so off. and my pulled pork was So burnt it tasted bad. wasn't just like a nice char that stuff was black LOL and the pickles or maybe it was the mustard tasted off? maybe i just don't like whole grain mustard idk.. and the sourdough roll was soo thick but the top half was like 80% of the roll instead of a nice 50/50 top to bottom bun ratio. After moving to Northern California from Indiana, we decided to take a weekend to decompress from the move, and ended up in Half Moon Bay. TLDR: Great food, terrible service. Rude, belittling people at the front who have no patience if you have food restrictions/allergies. My partner is gluten intolerant. Not 'prefers gluten free food' intolerant, more like 'needs surgery from gluten damaging his insides' intolerant. So breakfast is really hard and we often have to ask questions before committing to eating anything. We went to The Press a few times because they have gluten free bread. The past 2 times we have been there, we have asked about GF options and the front staff have been incredibly rude. We get it, the soup isn't available before lunch--no need to be rude, raise your voice, or talk down to customers who are just trying to figure out what they can eat. To be clear, there was no line and we deliberately waited to ask Qs so we wouldn't hold anyone up or cause problems. We're not here to be picky or cause trouble. We just want to eat safely. The food is great, btw--I'm deeply disappointed we will no longer be attending. If you don't have food restrictions, consider stopping by. But be aware that you may run into people comfortable disrespecting you if you do have any restrictions. read more
