Sat outside (they have good seating) no wait (pleasantly busy tho, good sign ) Got the crab cake Benedict and after talking to Juan our server, I ordered the Breeze Benedict and we shared 1/2 of our orders to each other. The Tri trip in the Breeze sounded good and it was. My boyfriend liked it over the crab cake Benedict (made with imitation crab-I called around but could not find a brunch place that didn't use imitation) . Homemade hashbrowns (not frozen). Very abundant and tasty. I noticed that the decor had changed to a beige easy going feeling. But that was not as noticeable as the service. My father did the restaurant business so well and will always be my benchmark for personable. So Juan was like meeting that kind person with a wonderful attitude, who gives you his honest feelings on popular/his fav menu items. I told him my dad would have liked him. We came on a Sunday at around 9am. There was still plenty of parking and spots inside the restaurant. The restaurant is extremely clean and the decor gave off a really elegant boho chic vibes. All of the real plants made the space very welcoming. The service was ok. Other waiters seemed to check on their tables frequently but we seemed to have been the table that got only one check in towards the end of our dining experience. The food was also average. We got the "my way omelette" and it was good but not as big as other diners omelettes. The country potatoes were made well. The Breakfast Board was also very average. The idea of the board was great but taste-wise, it didn't taste unique in any way. I would also recommend getting it to share as a party of 4. As a party of 2, it was way too much and we didn't want to take a Togo box since it didn't taste spectacular. The drinks were the best part of our meal. The ube latte was extremely tasty and milky. The only thing I didn't really like was the parking as the plaza is small and there's other stores in the same plaza... so we had to park near the church walk over. Our server (Storm, I believe was his name), was professional and friendly and even gave my husband a free refill on his fresh-squeezed OJ (I hope that doesn't get him in trouble. ). The food was good. We had country fried steak and spicy chilaquiles. Everything tasted good and they seem to have a wide variety of griddle items and drinks that I'd love to go back to try. The interior was bright and airy with a very minimalist design. Music volume--if there was any at all, I honestly can't remember--was very low so conversations were easy. The bar is also a nice option! Now to the food! Drinks are delicious here! Fresh OJ and drool worthy matcha specials. Wouldn't be a bad idea to grab a drink and enjoy them nearby if you are short on time. There's a very cute bridge over a 'botanical' garden directly next to it you could visit too. It's over a bunch of greenery haha. Maybe wildflowers bloom later in the season though. Our server, Juan, was really great! Attentive, helpful and best of all had a great sense of humor. I forget the name of the scramble but it has a chipotle sauce. We got it with egg whites. I don't recommend it because the sauce overpowers the rest of the dish which is unfortunate because the meat and veggies seemed really good. I also think that having egg yolks may help but I'm not confident because the sauce covered the entire thing. I was a big fan of the crab cakes! I think they're hard to get right. The hollandaise sauce can taste chalky and it's a gamble on whether it's fresh or boxed. Same with the crab cakes themselves. I don't mind if they're frozen to table as long as I can't taste it. It was very crispy! It had pretty perfect crunch without being overcooked. Inside was nice and smooth. Sauce was not chalky! This might be a controversial take with avocado lovers but I really liked that they slice the avocado thinly across the biscuit. Hear me out! It's already a very saucy dish with the hollandaise and avocado is slippery too! So less is more here because your next bite isn't spilling all over the place when you go to cut it. We ordered the Garden's Gate breakfast board, which comes with a mix of breakfast items like pancakes, waffles, and French toast topped with fresh fruit, whipped cream, and syrup on the side. It also originally comes with bacon, sausage, and ham, but we asked to have those removed. We added chocolate chips to the pancakes for an extra charge. The board was around $35, which is a bit on the pricier side, but you are able to sample a variety of items and it's suitable for sharing. Visually, it was very appealing, and the portions were good for three people. However, the pancakes, waffles, and French toast were a bit plain on their own, so it might have been nicer if they had offered flavors rather than just toppings. I came hungry and ordered an iced latte and a California omelet, which is listed as a vegetarian omelet. I specifically cannot eat pork, so when the waiter brought it out, I double-checked with him and asked, "This is vegetarian, right?" He confirmed that it was. While eating, I noticed something chewy in the omelet. When I looked closely, I realized it was ham/pork. This was extremely upsetting, especially because I had specifically asked and was assured that the omelet was vegetarian. I didn't make a big deal out of it and simply asked if they could remake the omelet. I also explained that the first omelet was very watery inside and asked them to please make the new one vegetarian and cook it thoroughly. The second omelet came out, and I was honestly shocked. It was still completely watery inside, and there was also significantly less hash browns on the plate. I couldn't help but wonder whether they had simply reused the same plate and removed some of the hash browns I had already eaten rather than preparing a completely fresh plate. At that point, I went to speak with the manager. I explained that it really should not be this difficult to make a properly cooked vegetarian omelet. She did refund the omelet, but unfortunately, there was not much of an apology or concern shown about what had happened. The response felt very indifferent. This is a serious issue, not just a matter of getting an order wrong. Accidentally serving pork in something that was specifically confirmed to be vegetarian can be a huge risk for people with food allergies, dietary restrictions, or religious food requirements. Customers should be able to trust that when they clearly communicate a restriction and the restaurant confirms it, the kitchen will take it seriously. I was pregnant, hungry, and just wanted a simple vegetarian omelet. Having to send it back twice because it contained pork the first time and was completely undercooked the second time made for a very frustrating experience. I absolutely love this place. Everything I've had near has been delicious. I have now been here 6 times and I always try something new when I come there explore their menu. On the weekends there is usually a wait to get in (20-40 min) but when I go during the week I am seated immediately. The service is always great and on point. They also have some Really bomb mocktails. There's only one drink I got that I didn't like very much but everything else I've tried I loved. Their mimosas are my favorite. Tried this place on Uber Eats the other week and it was amazing. I wasn't expecting it to come as fresh as it did. I definitely can't wait to come in. New restaurant (about 4 months?) in a newly reburbished building. Staff friendly, accommodations comfortable and attractive, and food that is pretty darn great. Whatever else you get, try the pancakes as a side. They are fantastic -- a perfect balance between cakey-ness and bounce of a pancake. They are moist and have a good flavor. Of course the ball of butter melding and the side of syrup and whipped cream certainly help, too. Seriously, the pancakes here are better than a SJ breakfast classic (Uncle John's). The menu covers a lot of ground, though -- from Mexican and American breakfast classics to robust and exciting-looking burgers. I tried the Huevos Rancheros with tri-tip steak and a couple poached eggs. They even confirm how you want your poached eggs (firm or medium), and that's music to my ears. When the poached eggs are not the way you like it, it's miserable. Happily, these were perfect. The dish itself had lots of flavor, and yes, lots of spice. Loved it. The one part I was underwhelmed with was the tri-tip. Just a bit too tough and rubbery for my liking. But overall, I loved this dish, and the price point was reasonable, too. The Garden's Gate Cafe has a really cute, cozy vibe, but it seemed like they were short-staffed when we visited. The host was also our server and was juggling about six tables at the time. Because of that, service was slower than ideal, which is the reason for docking a star--but this is absolutely not a reflection of the server, who was charming, attentive, and clearly doing their best to take care of everyone. I loved that they offer half-order options. I was able to order half of the California Benedict and still save room for crepes for dessert, which was a big win. My friend ordered the California omelette and, while the plating wasn't fancy, she said it was delicious. We ordered orange juice mimosas--slightly smaller than what we're used to (yes, I know they're in champagne glasses, but some places pour a bit more ), though they were still tasty. The cafe is located in a small strip mall, so nothing fancy location-wise, but I would absolutely go back for the food and the service we received. While I can't quite give the restaurant five stars overall, it's definitely worth a visit. read more

A really pleasant brunch experience! I visited on a Sunday morning, and it was beyond busy. Just finding parking was a struggle. We had a brief wait and were seated. The atmosphere of the restaurant was casual and fun, with lots of families and couples. The decor was very simplistic, and there was a cute plant wall at the entrance. Because it was so packed, the service was extremely slow. However, huge shoutout to Juan for the incredible recommendations/service and for literally holding a plant as a background for photos - that was hilarious and much appreciated! The menu featured some really unique options, like an ube waffle and tres leches french toast. I enjoyed the dishes I ordered! The tres leches french toast tasted like a standard french toast. I couldn't really taste the condensed milk at all, but it was still a delicious, classic french toast. The crab cake eggs benedict was another good dish - once again, pretty standard brunch fare, so nothing super remarkable. The iced ube latte was a gorgeous bright purple but also extremely sweet. The iced matcha latte had a hint of matcha flavor but mostly tasted like milk. If you're planning on visiting on a weekend, be prepared for a bit of a wait! However, the fun vibes and solid dishes make the wait worth it! read more

A cute space with good eats! Walking in, the interior is bright with lots of plants all around! We came on a Friday at 10am and there was no wait. Parking lot makes it easy to park too. Lots of selection on the menu - they have shareable breakfast boards, typical American, and Mexican plates! I ended up ordering the garden gate skillet, but with hash browns instead of country potatoes. It came with a generous amount of avocado! However, I thought the portion size for my subbed hash browns was really small. Also, I know linguica is oily, but this was extra, extra oily...there was still even more oil when I ate the leftovers the next day. I also ordered a banana latte and I'm not crazy about the flavor. Honestly I rate a 3.5, but round up to 4 for the menu variety, price, and ambiance. I will come back because I do want to try more of the menu, especially the pancakes and chilaquiles. read more

came here for my bday breakfast with the family. it's located in a strip mall, there is plenty of parking. The space is large, clean and bright (floor to ceiling windows). the service is friendly, though a little on the slow side. The food is tasty and so are the drinks, though things came out at different times so there may be an opportunity to tighten there. We just discovered Garden's Gate off Southwest Expressway, and we have already been two weekends in a row! Delicious lattes with lots of fun flavors, and amazing food. We love that they have a "fun size" menu so if you're craving savory AND sweet, you can get half orders for variety that have generous portions! We have had (and loved!) the Carnitas Benedict, Chicken & Waffles, Horchata French Toast, Salmon Benedict, Garden Benedict and S'mores Pancakes. Take Me Café From the owner of Newark's The Breeze Café, comes a newish (±6months) upscale diner replacing the long-standing Greek "Tasso's Place" (RiP). Much like The Breeze Café, Garden Gate Café will serve up a slew of breakfast options that range from classic American and Mexican options, with some fusiony type dishes of both cultures. The Good: *Owner is an SJ-native, which is something close to mí corazón *Outdoor seating *Great service from the hostess (didn't catch her name) and the waitress, Aria, who was terrific in every sense. *Coffee bar with seasonal drinks *Huge portions & great prices *My Carnitas Benedict was fantastic; the pork was super tender and delicious, and the egg was yolky goodness. And don't sleep on that homemade salsa--it's got a kick! :D *We both thought the home fries needed a little more color--but at least they were cooked thru and well-seasoned. You know how many times I've gotten undercooked and bland taters at restaurants? Lots. Lots and lots. *I really enjoyed the seasonal iced pumpkin cream mocha. Great flavor on the pumpkin spice and not too sweet to overpower the matcha. *Ube Latte was fantastic w/ a shot of espresso. Carissa didn't agree, as she thought the espresso took away some of the ube flavor but I found it to be perfect blend of the two.
