Great service, yummy food, picture perfect drinks! Very clean spacious nice bathrooms. Perfect place to enjoy happy hour. Really loved the garlic noodles from happy hour. Cute corner spot they have indoor out door seating and cool bar area.
Arrived around noon on Friday before Fourth of July, thought they would have brunch but they only have that on weekends!! The lunch menu was still good tho and liked everything i ordered! We got the 1/2 dozen oysters, ahi poke appetizer, and shared the salmon entree. Service was very good, food came out in a good amount of time. The oysters were fresh, the ahi poke was ample and good flavor profile with fresh tuna and spicy mayo. The salmon was already halved for us which was such a nice touch as we mentioned we were sharing. Everything tastes healthy and not salty which we liked. Def want to come back for brunch!! Recommend!
Came here with my coworkers for a small bachelorette dinner! The food was AMAZING. I want to come back for a cute little date night with my bf before heading out to downtown. We had a group of around 8 I think and did a family style type of dinner. We ordered the milk bread, mussels and prawns, poke nachos, caviar potato pave, and prime ny steak frites. Everything was so good!! The bread and the two butters it came with were really good. The bread that came with mussels and prawns were really good too, it was toasted with some seasonings and it paired really well with the leftover seafood sauce. The caviar was alright but the potato in the dish was great. Service was great. it took a while for the server to fix our wobbly table but it's fine, they seemed really busy and was able to fix it eventually. Overall fun place to take a big group for a cute dinner. Food was amazing, definitely on the pricier side though, but the vibes were great!
Appetizer - 5 stars Milk bread was served warm, fresh and melt in your mouth. Drinks - house wine was very good Dinner - Better Some things make you wonder how the flavors of the dish co.e together. The octopus was exactly that. It had nuts and watermelon which I didn't think added anything significant to the dish. It was spicy, almost overly spicy. It made it less enjoyable when you have to gulp down glasses of water to come the heat down. The burger on the other hand was a huge hit. It was a stacked high with layers of very good quality beef cooked to order, crisp lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles. The bite was almost so big you couldn't fit all the layers. Loved the burger sauce that came on the bun. Service was excellent. Ambiance was nice, not too crazy sitting closer to the door. The bar crowd seemed to be getting loud but we left right after our food was done. The manager kept the doors locked as they were about to close up. All friendly staff.
The menu was really fun, and everything we ordered was delicious. I especially enjoyed my steak. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked, tender with just the right amount of fat, and honestly the perfect portion size. The eggs were cooked nicely, and I liked the bit of acidity from the arugula salad on top of the house potatoes, which helped balance the dish. The beignets were amazing. It was my first time trying them, and they were super light and airy on the inside with a perfectly crisp exterior coated in powdered sugar. The three dipping sauces were all excellent and each paired really well with the beignets in its own way.
The pressroom is an upscale spot in the heart of downtown San Jose. Catering to a business dinner crowd and special occasion/date night clientele, the menu is quite varied and has offerings from Indian butter chicken, to short ribs, homemade pasta and even your classic burger. The waitress knew the menu and drinks very well and was able to provide detailed information on the ingredients in each, as well as recommendations on what pairs well with each dish. I ordered the boneless short ribs with potatoes and asparagus and rainbow carrots. The presentation, from the plate to the assembly and composition was absolutely beautiful and immediately gave the high-end, upscale vibe. The meat was super tender and seasoned well. The potatoes were almost like thinly sliced scalloped potatoes with a crunchy top, yet smooth and creamy in the inside. The vegetables were perfectly cooked and paired well with the short ribs. Truffle oil was used delicately to season the potatoes but was unnecessary if you ask me. The mustard Demi-glacé accompanying the short ribs was the best complement tying the whole dish together. I also got to try the hand made agnolotti with garlic, wild mushrooms and lemon ricotta. The pasta was delicate and generously stuffed with lemon ricotta. The garlic sauce was buttery yet a bit heavy handed with truffle oil. It did complement the wild mushrooms though, so I understand why the chef prepared it that way and it made the dish feel more elevated. For dessert I had the vanilla crème brulee which was rich and creamy. The sugar was perfectly caramelized, providing a much needed bitterness to the sweet custard. I could have used a bit less sweetness and a bit more citrus or acid with more fruit perhaps. My coworker had the bread pudding which was well balanced and had a sprinkle of salt to make up for the sweetness in the bread and ice cream. Overall it was a great meal. I'll definitely be back however, the prices are on the high end, making this more of a special occasion restaurant, more so than your every day eating out dining spot.
Decided to try a new brunch spot and I have to say the interior here is so beautiful. I love all the natural lighting and how big the space is. The menu has some very unique names, but I like how they tried to preserve the history of the building which used to be the Mercury News. They also use newspaper print for their to-go bags which I thought was very cute. For food, we ordered their version of avocado toast with hashbrowns, bibimbap, and beignets. The beignets were a bit too doughy for me but I enjoyed the other two dishes. Service was great, our server kept checking in on us to make sure we were doing good and to refill our water. Would definitely come back because I wanna try their drinks and dinner menu.
My friend described this places as "good, but best gone with a corporate card". And I think that's apt. Everything is just so disproportionately expensive for the quality you get. Gorgeous interior design though as always, paying homage to the original newspaper headquarters I ordered - The blackberry mocktail: first of all this was $14. For JUICE. One of the ingredients in here was the bad kind of bitter that tastes like dirty soapy dishwasher, so this was a huge miss - The fried paneer sandwich: good, but it was really the quality and flavor of the manresa bread bun that was really carrying this dish - The beignets (3 pieces): this was the best item. It comes with 3 large but very airy beignets with 3 thick sauces: dulce de leche, chocolate, and raspberry. The beignets texture was uniquely spongy and airy delicious! Their brunch and cocktail menu does look interesting enough so I will have to come back a second time to see if the quality of the other offerings can raise this rating Logistics: - Indoor seating and outdoor seating though outdoor is unheated and a bit just on the sidewalk - Limited street parking nearby but close to several paid public garages and bus routes. - Vegetarian and vegan and gluten free options
I came to this place place for brunch, and it was a wonderful experience! I ordered the Avocado Toast with an Egg and House Potatoes and it was the most delicious and filling avocado toast I can remember. I was completely satisfied. I would definitely recommend. They have other cool items I would like to try, and I like their themed names. The service was great, and I would love to come back for dinner or even just a drink. The vibe is so chic. I would love to see it at night. It seems perfect for a date night or a night where you want to impress
My boyfriend found this and place from an Instagram post. The menu names are so much fun! We ordered: It's just mi -- a banh mi sandwich with super tender short ribs. Delish with a slight spicy sauce and pickled carrots. Turkey sandwich with bacon and avocado. Also delish with the millionaire bacon... omg... really makes the sandwich special . The fries for both sandwiches are sooo good! Benets -- apparently that's what they are known for. Comes with chocolate , raspberry sauces. The benets are probably the best we've had! So light... take a look at the picture... they are hollow inside! We were told everyone orders this and we can see why. Server was also very friendly and helpful with the suggestions.
The decor of this place is very upscale and pleasing, specially the bar area with the floating shelves and greenery around it. We got a reservation and were promptly seated. The drinks were pretty good and we got started with oysters and mussels and shrimp as appetizers. The sauce that the mussels came in was delicious, we ordered more bread to dip in that sauce. For main course, the salmon was medium rare, it was absolutely melt in the mouth! The octopus and pasta with lemon and cheese was good as well. For dessert, the beignets did not disappoint ! The sauces it came with were really good pairing as well. Overall, really good experience. Good food, service and overall experience!
Finally got a chance to try breakfast on a Saturday. We were seated right when we walked in at a great window table. The menu is creative and fun. We went for the banana custard French toast (Banana Republic) to share, the Benedict Arnold, and Croque Baldoni with an egg on top. We also ordered the French press of Academic Coffee. Delish!! The venue is really nice. The servers were all friendly and super cute in their black outfits. Definitely want to go back.
I go to down town SJ pretty often and just found this place off of yelp. We went there for a birthday, to sum up our experience, the service good but a bit slow, but that is understandable because it was super packed so we didn't mind. As for the food itself, it was a bit expensive for what it was. The food was good but nothing amazing. However, we really do appreciate their birthday celebration for us!! They brought out a free dessert and put this sparkler candle on it and lit it up, it was really cool and nice of them :) As for the ambiance, I would say it's a space where people could be loud and have fun without being looked at weird. The atmosphere was pretty loose and bar like, everyone was having a good time!
Came here with my family, party of 8. The restaurant is gorgeous and their bar has a sexy vibe. The menu is a bit limited, but there's something for everyone. Shout out to our server, Chris, who was incredibly patient - my family is high maintenance! Ha! Overall theme of the food ... is a little overpriced for what you get, but good nonetheless: - Milk bread was good, not great. - Brie was delicious - it could take up to 20 minutes to make. - Tomahawk presentation was fun and very video worthy - Butter Chicken [deconstructed] pot pie lacked a little punch but my partner put some of the ... - spicy sauce from my Fried Rosemary Chicken Breast and instantly was better - Potato purée was really disappointing. Came here for lunch with some coworkers since we were in the area. The lunch menu is mostly sandwiches, so I ordered the chicken salad sandwich ($24). It came with a choice of fries or a side salad, I got the fries and they were really good with just the right amount of crispiness! The sandwich was good but nothing special, it definitely tasted healthy. The ambiance is nice and the restaurant is nicely decorated for the holidays! Just knocking one star off since the lunch menu felt a bit overpriced ($25-30+ for each sandwich/burger) for the portion size. read more

I mainly go here for early happy hour, before going to other happy hours :) Definitely a great way to start an evening. Arriving between 3-5 pm is worthwhile... You can't beat half-off cocktails these days! It's like traveling back in time paying 10 bucks for a stiff well-crafted drink. My favorite here would be their Final Edition. But when I'm in the mood for a refreshing drink, their Bourbon Ledger cocktail is like a bigger cousin of the Paloma. I've also enjoyed their Inkwell Manhattan, Espresso Martini, and Rye Old Fashioned during other visits. From the HH food menu, their short rib sliders were a hit. The steak bites were tasty teasers... to a future dinner. Their chips & dip were okay. And their oysters were bigger than what I expected. Their fries from the regular menu were fantastic, kinda like upscale McDonald's fries. For starters, the fresh Milk Bread & Butter dish was surprisingly amazing. It's all about the two butters! And I can't get enough of their pork belly! Multiple visits in and I never had issues with service. All staff were very friendly! Also, love what they did with this space that's been vacant for so long. It has a solid level of swankiness, especially Bar Mercury. And that front door is epic! read more
Came in for brunch and thought the restaurant was pretty cute and nicely decorated! Their menu had aptly named dishes and we got a kick out of reading it. We ordered the caviar Benedicts, banana foster French toast and the duck cheney waffles. Overall, we thought the food was just okay, esp. given it was all on the more pricey side. The French toast was particularly greasy so we also didn't like that as much. The best dish was probably the Benedicts with hash browns but the caviar was skippable. Service was average. For what it's worth, I think there are definitely better brunch spots! read more
We came for happy hour before a sharks game and had a wonderful experience, we've already thought about coming back! The sliders were so delicious, all around, the bun, the sauce, the meat! We enjoyed our cocktails as well. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive! The interior is really cute too, we were sat at a booth near the window which was nice. I had heard so much about this place and was excited to try it. Although there were only a few vegetarian options, I was happy with my choice. I ordered the Life is Short, Have an Aff-vacado Toast with two eggs. First of all, it looked delicious! The hashbrowns were perfectly crispy, and the arugula added a refreshing touch to the toast. Went here for a happy hour. We got 6 drinks and 2 dishes between 3 people. I would say the drinks are 100% worth it but the food is not. The drinks are half price for $8-$11 which is a great deal for SJ. Food wise we ordered the mac and cheese bites and bao buns which were extremely lackluster and were about $12 each. We only received 2 Mac and cheese bites and 2 baos, so not meant for more than 1-2 people. The mac and cheese bites lacked flavor and the bao buns had a single thin half not even whole slice of meat and veggies. I will say the service was great and servers kept our waters filled, it was also incredibly clean and modern inside which was a good vibe. Overall, drinks are great in flavor and completely worth it for the happy hour but would not recommend the food since the quality and portions aren't as worth it especially when compared to the drinks. read more
I'm not sure of it's be out I never noticed the Pressroom, but it's really nice. Right near San Pedro Square on Santa Clara Street. You enter at the corner and it's a restaurant with a nice big bar in the back. Off to the side in a separate room they have another bar against the wall which looks pretty cool as well but it was closed on this particular day for whatever reason. Love the high ceilings and openness. Nice furniture and decor. They have an outside seated stress but it's not so fancy. Just tables and chairs on the sidewalk, though partitioned away from the public. The waiter was very friendly and patient. He walked us through some of their unique drink concoctions ands advised on different apps to eat. Oysters, bay buns, sliders, and steak bites were all grub! I think we had a couple of the steak bites. For drinks, the Pear Review was a nice cocktail. The sweet pear flavor mixed well with the gin, and I'm usually not a gin fan. The Night Watch has pineapple and dark rum, another nice grouping. They have a terrific happy hour for both food and drink! read more
This place has a great ambiance with dim lighting (just enough to make it feel homey) and good music. There were plenty of tables for a Sunday night and we were given great service. The bathrooms were clean and beautiful, too. The food was delicious. I shared the salmon plate and the arugula with a friend and it was the perfect amount. My drink came in a brass owl mug, as well!! So fun! The people there were lovely and we had a great time. read more

This fairly new spot has been on my radar for awhile now. Let's start with the aesthetic. It was absolutely gorgeous on the inside. The design was very sleek and aesthetically pleasing. Secondly, the service was amazing. Raag was my server and was extremely knowledgeable with the menu and when I inquired about his recommendations they do not disappoint. I order the recommended roasted mushrooms and wow it was incredible flavorful! The rosemary chicken is the absolute star of the show, I heard it's also on the dinner menu and recently got moved to the lunch menu, and I'm glad it did. If you want a crispy and juicy chicken with side of sauce order this and you will not be disappointed. The short rib sandwich was great as well and the fries were perfectly crispy. I cannot wait to come back and hopefully try their drink options! read more

The Pressroom is a stellar addition to the downtown brunch scene. The space itself has a really cool, open design. Sleek modern booths mixed with an awesome comic-noir mural backdrop that gives it a unique, stylish edge. It's vibrant and upscale without feeling stuffy. The food and drinks are highly photogenic, but thankfully, they actually deliver on flavor too. read more

Service was exceptional!! Ate at the bar. Had a salad with grilled chicken that was one of the best I have ever had. Quality was awesome. Met the owner and we talked about golf. What a super nice guy. Great selection of very hard to get bourbons and the prices were reasonable. Loved the quality and the service! When I'm in town I will go back. read more
I was pleasantly surprised by the Pressroom. Came on a Friday night and was glad we made a reservation as it was crowded. The ambiance is super pretty inside. Parking is difficult as it's right in the middle of downtown. The service was great here. The menu is quite small so there's not many vegetarian options, but we got the bread with butter to start. The bread was warm and fresh and the butter was unique tasting and yummy. We also got the fries as a side which was good and the quantity was decent. For the main course we got a pasta dish and it had a lemon flavor. The drinks were really good here and really pretty too. read more
The place was pretty cool, once you arrive you go through these huge heavy doors. I absolutely loved the wall decor and the mood lighting ambience. It made the perfect date night. Our waitress was really kind, especially the staff. The food was amazing. I absolutely loved the beignet and the pork belly. Say Yes to the Press The Pressroom is the newest restaurant from Dave Mulvehill (aka Nuvo Hospitality), who now owns and operate just about every restaurant & bar in the San Pedro Sq area. Located at the historic Lyndon Building (ca.1884), which housed the Times-Mercury newspaper (precusor to the current San José Mercury News) the restaurant is an homage to the past done with class and style. The Good: *If you go back to Google Maps Street View and compare the exterior to how it looks now, you'll see that they spared no expense on this restaurant's décor. *Dog-friendly outdoor dining *Great service by Christopher. He was professional, kind, and didn't bother us more than necessary. *Happy Hour (HH) menu (daily from 3 - 5 p.m.) is fantastic with 50%-off mixed drinks, $7 beers, and a bevy of delicious apps. *Speaking of the HH drinks, they were not watered down at all and packed a nice punch. *Lots of Veg-head friendly and gluten-free options *The Housemade Milk Bread app was outstanding. The bread was so soft and pillowy, and the two flavored butters that came with it were just icing on the cake. This is a MUST GET! *Braised Boneless Short Ribs were cooked tender and the demi-glace sauce was a fantastic accompaniment. Special big up to the Potato Pavé, which tasted like the best McDonald's Hash Brown you've ever had, and I say that with the utmost respect because I fucking love McShitz Hash Browns. The Meh: *Street Parking and City-owned garage. Both will cost you a few bucks, but nothing crazy. We ended up paying only $1 at the Market St Garage on a Sat night (first 90min free fwiw). *Bacon Bao Buns were good, but we felt like it needed more bacon. *Molten Chocolate Cake wasn't very molten and was a bit dry. Carissa seemed to enjoy it but I thought it was just decent. *Speaking of desserts, their whole dessert menu is kinda uninspired and kinda the who's who of basic restaurant desserts. While there's nothing wrong with the classics, I feel like it would be nice to have rotating specials that are a little more interesting. The Ugly: *Prices for their dinner entrées are on the slightly more absurd side of the spectrum. I mean $50 for salmon is a bit steep, and we've eaten at Michelin rated restaurants that charged less than that. Fortunately the food was good, so it's hard to complain too much about the price. *The music during HH was absurdly loud and felt like a night club. Yeah, yeah I'm old. Fuck off. However, in my defense, I will say my late-20s coworker also agreed that the HH music is a bit much. Fortunately, once HH was over, it did lower down and switch to a calmer vibe. Conclusion: Great new restaurant in DTSJ that's perfect for a date night or a get together with friends--just be sure to get there early to enjoy some of their amazing HH specials. read more
Good food and fancy cocktails in a cute setting. Some dishes are better than others, but for the most part they're a solid 3/5. A big bonus is being able to make brunch reservations on a Sunday. Most places won't, hence a group of 8 gals coming here on Sunday 8/24/25. Service was attentive enough considering they were pretty packed. They have a nice cocktail list! Not every drink is good, but I like that their drinks aren't overly sugary like at most places. This is what we got: - Matcha cocktail with foamed egg white: 2/5. It tasted like something had gone bad and the flavors didn't mix. There was no foam on top. - Dahlia (an espresso cocktail with vanilla): 3/5. No taste of vanilla but it was nice and strong, fresh coffee - Beignets: 4/5. So fresh, soft and steamy on the inside with a delicious dulce de leche dipping sauce. The raspberry and chocolate sauces were meh. - Egg white frittata. 3.5/5 solidly good. Comes with crunchy hash browns or potatoes. - Chilaquiles: 2/5. Okay, I had chilaquiles in SoCal, Mexico City, etc but even if you haven't, this won't blow you away. It was like eating regular, very slightly soggy tortilla chips with a SCRAMBLED egg on top and no flavor. Isn't it supposed to be sunny side up, gooey, saucy, and flavorful? There was barely any cheese or anything on it. - Avocado toast: 3.5/5. I hate ordering avo toast outside because it's so easy to make at home. But it was at least a nice, thick fresh bread with a thick layer on top. Not sure about it being $22 but you know. Inflation lol. All in all it was okay. The markup on their wines is absurd, cocktails look cute but we're far from mixologist level drinks, and you're really coming for the ambience, not quality. read more
I had seen The Pressroom on social media so much and it looked like so much fun! I love the concept of it having been the Mercury News HQ in the past and they definitely played into it a good amount with the decor which was all lovely. The greeter seemed very off put when we arrive without a reservation and took a while to find us a table in a very empty restaurant. Our waiter was very friendly though. The food was okay, it honestly looked more impressive than it tasted, and overall, I'd say a bit overpriced. I enjoyed my meal, but overall feel like a fell for the Instagram hype. read more

He suggested Pressroom and I noticed they have HH every day, so I figured this would be a great place to start! First off, pricing is amazing. $10 or less for a really good cocktail?! Yes please! I started with the inkwell which is a manhattan. Nicely balanced. Next up, I wanted something refreshing so the bourbon ledger ticked that box. It was light, crisp, tart - everything I wanted at the moment. Food wise, I didn't find the HH menu offered much for me. I prefer smaller oysters since they tend to taste cleaner. These were on the bigger side, so kinda creamy which I didn't care for. I didn't try the chips and dip, but it looked fine. Wonderful place for a cocktail HH hour. Would definitely come back. We went here for my friend's birthday and left satisfied and happy :) Food quality , ambience, service and location. The Pressroom checked every box! Park at the parking garage on Market and San Pedro Square. That will give you 90 minutes of free parking. A quick 5-7 minutes walk will take you to the Pressroom, which is located just a block away from the parking garage. Highly recommend you make a reservation beforehand too as the restaurant was pretty crowded even on a week night! From the outside looking in, The Pressroom looks very chic with its huge wooden push door and an outdoor patio with cute black-and-white striped umbrellas. The inside gives an upscale and elevated vibes though! Floor-to-ceiling windows surround the corner restaurant with dark wood interiors and cute little booths. The bar is well stocked with varieties of alcohols and nicely decorated. I love that the restaurant is dimly lit which creates a nice ambiance for dining. There is cute fake plants decorations everywhere - between the booths, hanging from top of the windows, around the bar, etc. I whispered to my friend that w should come back here to enjoy brunch and see the restaurant in daylight. Our dinner reservation was at 7pm. The front staff was super friendly, quickly checked us in and directed us to our table which pleased me instantly. I had requested a nice table because it was my friend's birthday and they provided just that. We got a window table/booth which provided nice view of the patio and also the bar area. Our server promptly brought us water and kindly explained the menu to us. We needed up ordering the Bread and Butter, Poke Nachos, and the Prime NY Steak Frites. We also picked the Pear Review and Byline Fizz for cocktails. Food came out in reasonable amount of time. We enjoyed the house-made milk bread in the Bread and Butter. So soft and yummily melting in your mouth! The Poke Nachos was fresh and nicely seasoned. I wasn't impressed with the steak. Though it was pretty decent, nothing spectacular stood out to me. Both of the cocktails served their purpose! My friend loves strawberry and her Byline Fizz was infused with all strawberries LOL which pleased her! Overall, we had a great night with nice food, ambience and service! Best of all, we only paid $2 extra for parking LOL. We will definitely come back to try this restaurant's brunch menu :) read more

We had a wonderful date night last weekend at The Pressroom. The service was fantastic especially by Christopher. The décor is stunning. And the food was very good with our favorite being the housemade milk bread. We can't stop thinking about it. The dessert (molten chocolate cake) was much better than I thought it would even though it didn't have the lava chocolate in the middle. Two negatives for me are 1) the music when we arrived during happy hour was super loud and with a dance party vibe. Definitely not our thing and I wished we could sat outside. They did turn it down and change the music a bit later. 2) I feel the prices are a bit overpriced like my salmon dish. Almost $50 for a small plate with some veggies. Everything was cooked well although a bit under seasoned for my liking. It came with a sauce and they did ask if I wanted more sauce but I don't need more sauce and calories--just more salt would be good. (For the record, I am a saltaholic so take what I say with a grain of salt. :D ) But hey--it is California after all! We made it 15 minutes before the 5 pm cut-off time for HH and was shocked that the dining room was near empty...on a Saturday (one table eating). And, we pretty much had the patio to ourselves. If it was a new boba or matcha shop, the line would start an hour before opening. =T The Pressroom opened in March 2025 in the historic Lyndon Building (former home of Mercury News). Open for lunch, happy hour, dinner, and weekend brunch. Indoor and outdoor patio seating. M E N U Modern California Cuisine with different menu for weekday lunch, dinner, weekend brunch, and happy hour. Not sure why it's categorized as a "diner" on yelp. HH Specials, everyday from 3 pm - 5 pm: $2 oysters, handful of discounted apps, 50% off cocktails/martinis and wine by the glass. Very modern and authentic place with a good service , friendly staff and interesting menus. The restroom had good happy hours offers, but overall menus are different depending on the time of the day having specials for brunch, dinner and lunch. The price is above the average. Food is good but I tried only brunch options where I paid around $20 for the avocado toast with potatoes. The ambiance is very nice and light. The location is right in the center of San Jose. There is a street parking with 1 free option nearby and garage parking with first 90 minutes free offer. read more
AMAZING happy hour! I literally don't know another nice restaurant in the area where you can get $9 cocktails during happy hour!! The entire vibe of the restaurant is so cute and curated down to a T. The service was amazing. We also got $2 oysters, artichoke hearts, shrimp, steak and sliders. We loved them all. We tried 3 different cocktails and also loved those. We left before dinner because we found the dinner to be overpriced, but this is literally the perfect happy hour spot! read more
The girls and I came in for a nice dinner. The interior decoration supports the jazzy news type of room theme that they ate going for. It was very cute and welcoming. We tried the steak frites, braised beef, and the porkchop. We all enjoyed our plates. I will say that we felt it was overpriced and our service was less than superior. The waitress acted like it was a burden to take our orders and to check in on us. It was pretty clear that the staff needs some better training on what service looks like and some dress code etiquette. Based on all this, we are glad we gave it a go but probably wouldn't bother to come back. read more
The Press Room is a beautifully designed restaurant with a stunning bar and a spacious, well-planned seating area. Whoever handled the architecture and interior design deserves major credit--it's modern yet comfortable, with clever touches like the newspaper-style artwork that I especially appreciate as an artist with a design background. We've been twice--once for happy hour and once for dinner--and both times it's been surprisingly quiet between 5:00 and 7:30PM. It's a bit of a mystery, because the cocktails are fantastic, the food is delicious (and not overpriced like some other spots nearby), and the service has been consistently excellent. The bartenders are friendly, knowledgeable, skilled, and attentive, which makes the experience even better. Perhaps the slower traffic has more to do with marketing or location, because this place has so much potential. It's the kind of venue I'd happily recommend to family and friends--and we'll likely be back next week. I can easily picture it being booked out for holiday parties, especially given its proximity to many Bay Area tech companies. There are garages nearby, and street parking is available (and free further down). While we've made reservations, it seems they accommodate plenty of walk-ins. Overall, it's a great spot--stylish without being stuffy, well-run, and worth visiting whether for happy hour, dinner, or a special event. read more

The restaurant itself is gorgeous and I love we're getting more upscale restaurants in the area. The drinks were all delicious as well. I ordered the espresso martini and it was smooth and tasty. I have been looking forward to seeing this restaurant, Pressroom, since I saw it on Instagram. I took my 89 year old mother here to lunch, where she enjoyed the hamburger meal and I had the banh mi sandwich with salad. We both enjoyed the meal, the servers were very nice and helpful. The place is centrally located in the San Jose downtown area, convenient for people who work downtown. There were several groups of downtown employees here for lunch to celebrate birthdays or other occasions. The restaurant is decorated with potted plants and the restaurant has very large plates glass windows with sunlight, and the wall decorations were tasteful and modern. This is also a place that people can take their significant others for a date or a meal. It certainly lived up to the hype that I initially saw on Instagram several months so when it initially opened. I'm happy to finally try this place out. My mom thoroughly enjoyed her burger, she said that the meat was exceptionally fresh and juicy. The wait staff were also very nice. I will certainly come again if I am in the area. The menu prices were reasonable, given that the restaurant is located in a central downtown location. read more

Stoped by for dinner on Friday night with a friend. Of course, the restaurant is still stunning, but the experience left me wanting more. The dinner menu didn't have too many options, and the $40 cauliflower steak seemed a little out of control. I had 2 appetizers, the poke nachos and the pork belly. Nachos are solid, but the pork belly made no sense. Tough, hard pieces of overcooked pork and the fruit it was served with did not compliment it at all. read more
Pros: - Great ambiance at this place! Ideal for a group of friends or a date with a significant other. - Service is great, waits are never too long and wait staff is very attentive on your needs with good recommendations on menu items - Food is amazing! Great selection of cocktails as well. I got the prime new york steak frites (~$65) which is a need addition to the menu. replacing the Prime Cut Steak ($85). Also the Ahi Nacho Poke was amazing so i would definitely recommend! Cocktail I got was Bourbon Ledger ( see picture). Absolutely loved it! Cons: - Not kids friendly. I would keep the kids at home and come for date night - Happy Hour window is 3-5pm, but at least its daily so mostly hard to catch - Could be a wait, so reservations are recommended. Overall, I thought this restaurant was solid and in an area where there's plenty to do before and after which increases the likelyhood of coming back. read more

Came here for Brunch on a Sunday. It wasn't too packed yet. Very spacious, felt very upscale. The waitresses were nice. The food was good, and very different. Especially the duck and waffles. It is kinda of pricey but good experience. Next time I go I would like to try the dinner menu. read more
Aesthetic spot with great food! We had a reservation at 10am on Saturday and it was quiet and peaceful. It's super modern inside and so cool it's called Pressroom when it used to be a Mercury news building before. We got the Benedict, duck & waffles, and beignets. All were so delicious! I might be a water snob, but their still water tasted off. Eggs Benedict: 5/5 Creamy sauce with savory prosciutto is the way to go. This was yummy and not too heavy. Duck & waffles: 5/5 The bones fell right off, I barely used a knife. The skin was nice and crispy too. This was such a unique combo with perfect balance of savory and sweet. Would definitely get this again! Beignets: 4/5 Fluffy and not too sweet. Taking a star off for the caramel sauce since it's not as yummy as the raspberry and chocolate sauces! Overall, a cute spot that's perfect for various occasions. Food's great and they have cocktails too. Definitely worth trying at least once! read more

I came to the pressroom with a group before a sharks game on a Friday evening. The restaurant was crowded when we arrived so I recommend making a reservation if it's a game day. We shared - brussel sprouts, ahi poke tuna nachos, pork belly, 1000 layer potato, mussels&prawns. My husband got the rosemary fried chicken breast. We really enjoyed all the food, our favorite was the mussels and the brussel sprouts. The 1000 layer potato was fun because it came with caviar but didn't feel worth the price. Service was quick and drinks were great as well. I will definitely return before another Sharks game :) read more

*LOCATION* This is a pretty new restaurant in downtown that is known for its nice ambiance and cleverly named dishes. It's at the corner of an intersection and has both indoor and outdoor seating. There's plenty of paid garage and street parking nearby. *WAIT TIME* My friend and I visited last Sunday ~11:30am. We had made a reservation about a month ahead of time so there was no wait for us. There were a few parties lined by the door and the inside seemed fairly busy when we arrived. *FOOD* -The Armstrong (+ bacon): this egg white frittata was generous with fillings and the goat cheese wasn't too overpowering. you can choose to have a side of hashbrowns or house potatoes and we chose the former which added a nice contrasting crisp to the dish. we also opted for bacon on top and it paired well (although i personally would've preferred the bacon to be a lil bit crispier)... -Banana Republic: omg this was delicious! the outside was perfectly fried and crunchy while the inside oozed banana custard. it def reminded me of a banana cream pie with all the whipped cream on top LOL *SERVICE* Our waiter was friendly and checked on us a few times. I got a hot latte instead of an iced latte but it was NBD since i love all coffee haha. There is a 4%(?) service charge added onto the bill so please double check if you want to adjust your tip level! *AMBIENCE* The interior of the restaurant is beautiful! Its high ceilings make the spacer look larger inside and it has a very modern chic vibe. It's slightly on the pricey side for the regular menu so don't forget to check out their Happy Hour from M-F 3-5pm! read more
