Heard great things about this place so had to try it out for ourselves! Unfortunately, the pretzel dogs were all sold out so we couldn't try them, but I bet they were fabulous. We ordered the Pretzel Bomb (a cinnamon sugar glazed pretzel ball filled with Nutella), a pretzel with Everything seasoning, breakfast pretzel sliders (egg, cheese, and bacon in btwn pretzel buns), pub cheese and caramel mustard dipping sauces. The Pretzel Bomb was delish! Great treat. The sliders were a bit small, but tasty, wish there was more bacon. The Everything pretzel was yummy! Pretzels are nice and soft on the inside crispy on the outside. Only advice is to order early and schedule to pick up later. They run out of their popular items quickly. This little gem is tucked around the corner from the stadium armory metro. The smell just puts you in a trance when you first walk in. I ordered a plain salted bagel and a chai latte. I bookmarked this cute place when I first moved to DC, but now that I only live a few blocks away, there were no more excuses not to stop by! My roommate and I came by for breakfast, and we each had a breakfast slider (2 for $6) and a Pretzel Bomb ($2.50). I also enjoyed a Dark Chocolate Iced Mocha ($3.50). I really enjoyed the breakfast, and I keep thinking about returning soon! We managed to snag a seat at the counter, but this place was packed on a fall Saturday morning for breakfast. I came for an afternoon snack around 2:30. There was only one other group there so it was pretty quiet. I ordered the roasted pepper pretzel calzone and got lucky by getting the last one! They heated it up for me while I found a stool by the large picture windows overlooking the passerby's. Great for people watching. Someone with a dog came by to get a snack to go. The pretzel looked so perfect and tasted great. Melted cheese on the inside and the marinara sauce that came with it was the star of the show - perfect texture and taste. Coming from Burke, google directions told us to take 295...wrong...this and getting lost finally brought us to a cute little brownstone that houses this pretzel shop. Ordering is simple, walk up to the window, order and pay, wait for your goodies, and then you can eat them under the trees on their patio benches. We started with a 3 for $5 order. Surprisingly, I was picturing Auntie Anne's cheesy dips, but The Pretzel Bakery only carried cream cheese. Hubby mentioned that he would have preferred a bit more salt, but I thought they were perfect. We ended up ordering another dozen for $18, and had a short wait for them. I had read reviews about the softness quality the next day but ours survived with a 20 second nuke-reheat. I love them with butter. The video on their website is informative, and the concept is cute. Delightful little rowhouse shop near Eastern Market, across from a soccer field. It's a quiet but popular spot, and frequented mostly by Cap Hill neighbors and pretzel lovers. You have to venture out from the metro to get here (there's also plenty of parking). Order from the kitchen window and eat your pretzels at the nearby benches. All the greenery makes for a nice backdrop in the summer. Their pretzels are the pillowy sort, instead of the thin and chewy variation. Perfectly salted and 3 for $5, mustard + dips for extra. The baker mentioned that they use a tweaked family recipe that was passed down. Haven't tried the Hotella in the winter (hot choco w. nutella), but was pleased by the basil lemonade. I love soft pretzels and I saw this place on Yelp. It was a bit out of the way, but I had some time so I finally got a chance to visit my last day in DC. We made it 25 minutes before they close (5 PM on Sundays). Walking over from the Metro stop, we passed by their original location just up the street and I was a bit confused until I saw the sign that they had moved just down the street on 15th and C. It was a cute but larger location (from what I could tell from walking past the old location). There were three people behind the counter; all were really nice and friendly, despite the fact that we had arrived fairly close to closing time. Even so, they didn't let it on. The menu was on the wall and we ended up getting a salty pretzel, their Nutella bomb, a coffee, and a basil lemonade. A group of 4 just finished buying their items and were sitting down at a table. While take, two other people came in and took some items to go. We found some window counter seats to quickly enjoy our snacks before heading back. The pretzel isn't a large one, but it's a good size for one (I was sharing so I was okay with it, since we got another item). It was soft and not as chewy as some other pretzels I've had. I liked it a lot. The Nutella Bomb was a cute size and drizzled with some sort of icing (I don't think it really needed the icing/glaze). It was a soft pretzel bun stuffed with warm nutella. I'm not sure if they warmed it up or it was fresh from the oven; I'm going to assume they were warmed up since it was late in the day. Both were soft, delicious, and served as good snacks. The basil lemonade was good; a perfect ratio of tart and sweet with a hint of basil. I liked that as well! Five minutes before closing, I asked if they had a restroom. They did, but the light wasn't working. Like I said, the place is a bit out of the way for me, so I decided to bring my cell to light the way in there, just in case I needed to . The light worked, haha. Service: Great and friendly, despite being so close to closing. Location: Close to the Potomac Ave Metro stop, so convenient, but a bit out of the way for your run-of-the-mill tourist, even though it's in the Capitol Hill Neighborhood. Food: Delicious (but if you like the chewier pretzels, these are of the softer variety). The Nutella Bomb isn't all that sweet, which is a plus. As mentioned before, I think they can pass on the icing/glaze on top. Drinks: Coffee was coffee. Lemonade was good. It's strangely cold these days, but I still enjoyed my lemonade - refreshing! Stopped by on National Pretzel Day (4/26) to try it out for the first time and I was super impressed! I tried an everything pretzel and the pub cheese (because they were out of caramel mustard), as well as a breakfast slider (egg and cheese on an everything pretzel bun), as well as an iced coffee. Everything was amazing! The soft pretzel was so soft and doughy (in a really good way), not like those nasty dried-out pretzels you get at baseball games. The interior space is also really neat, and I'd like to hang out on their little patio more often! Next time I visit, I'm definitely trying the nutella hot chocolate, because duh. read more

Just came across this the other day and love it. It's a small cafe, serving fresh pretzels, beer and coffee. The neighborhood vibe is definitely present in here, since it is surrounded my gorgeous houses on a serene street. The pretzels are so good. They are not oily or buttery like mall pretzels, since they are made fresh and just coated with some salt. The dough bakes to a crisp on the outside, having good crunch, and the inside is pillowy and doughy. It's a tough pretzel to beat. I did enjoy the pretzel dog too, which is an all beef hot dog cooked inside a pretzel. The spicy mustard dipping sauce is delicious. It had a strong mustard flavor, one that you can feel in your sinuses, it's great. I did not have the beer this time, but they do have some local craft beers which are probably great with your pretzel. If you are in this neighborhood, it's a good place to come and try! read more

Nice little quaint pretzel shop tucked into a neighborhood. I ordered two salted and a cinnamon sugar for $6.00+tax. Each pretzel is $2.50 or you can get 3 for $6.00, so I went with the cheaper deal. I had a can soda for $1 - unfortunately they do not have fountain sodas. There is plenty of seating inside as well as outside. The pretzels were pretty good, but I was disappointed to see them warm them up in a microwave. The pretzels are certainly not as good as Auntie Anne's or the Philly Pretzel Factory, but they are not bad, and there is not much competition in the DC area from which to choose pretzels. The wait staff is very, very nice. My cell phone's battery was running low, so they charged it for me without giving me any grief whatsoever, which I really appreciated. Look, we all love their pretzels. The quality of their pretzels is beyond reproach. But perhaps you, like me, are not a big pretzel person, and you don't seek to eat a daily pretzel. This place is still awesome because of their iced coffee. It is the best iced coffee I've had, period, not even close. I don't know what their cold brew process is but it results in a very strong, yet smooth brew, that is deeply flavorful with chocolatey notes. I just wish they would go back to serving it in the cups with a spout top, instead of the flat top w/hole for paper straw, as we all know paper straws are a farce. This place is AMAZING. I don't know why it doesn't have a perfect 5.0 because I've only had one pretzel variation in my life that rivaled this place, and it didn't have 7 different types with a lot of different sauces. It does get busy on a weekend morning, but just know that's because it's delicious goodness and the whole neighborhood saunters over to this cute, local corner block. Both kid and dog friendly, if it's nice out, everyone will sit outside and enjoy the patio. There's also seating for approx. 12 people within the store. Everything is good here, but I'm obsessed with the everything pretzel, the pretzel dogs, and the Nutella bombs (salted pretzel holes filled with gooey Nutella). I would say, it's worth asking to wait for a fresh batch of pretzels- they're best when they've just come out of the oven. It's extremely affordable here, you can get breakfast for $6 easily. They also have a great pretzel rewards program if you come regularly. We stopped twice in Pretzel Bakery during our trip to DC, since they were right at the corner of where we were staying. It seemed like a very popular neighborhood joint and I can understand why! We ate there once in the morning for breakfast and once in the afternoon for a snack. For breakfast we stopped and got some breakfast sliders and I couldn't say no to the pretzel bomb. We each got one slider, which had bacon, egg and cheese on an everything-flavored pretzel roll. The everything pretzel roll was perfect and I could have easily eaten two sliders myself. BUT I didn't want to overdo it because there was the pretzel bomb. The pretzel bomb is filled with Nutella, so yeah, basically perfection and I'm guilty for not sharing it very well with my husband. The second time we visited, we got the 3 pretzels for $6 - 1 Salted original, 1 Everything, and 1 Sweet Cinnamon-glazed. All three were good, but the sweet was my favorite. These pretzels are smaller than what you would get at your average Auntie Anne's, but the quality is definitely there! We didn't get any mustards or dips since they costed extra, but I think next time we will splurge for the house-made pub cheese! So glad I found this place! A pretzel is not on my list of breakfast foods. As I took a morning walk in this sweet DC neighborhood, I came across this extremely inviting pretzel bakery. This is one of my all-time favorite shops. The Nutella bombs are dreamy (literally, I've dreamed about them), and the breakfast sliders are just perfect with the everything spice on the pretzel buns. The pretzels are Philly-level quality. I always bring out-of-town guests here and everyone is converted to instant fans. I swear my parents are really coming for Nutella bombs when they visit me. The ambiance is different now that they're in a cafe space instead of selling out of a Dutch door a block away, but it's nice to be able to wait inside instead of out in the rain, even if I miss saying hi to all the dogs in line. Came here on a rainy Saturday to meet up with 3 friends for a late breakfast catch up date. I'm not sure if the weekends are always a hopping time or if the rain just made people linger longer and rush inside, but the place was pretty consistently busy for the time I was there. Luckily I was able to snag one of the tables for my group! I visited their old location so was very familiar with how tasty their standard pretzels are. This visit I opted for two breakfast sliders (can't resist a good deal! You save a dollar by buying two) and a peppermint tea. Two friends got iced mochas and loved them! The sliders are fantastic and two are definitely enough to feel full. The pretzel bun is soft with a bit of chew, the eggs were fluffy, and the cheese and bacon brought it all together. I'll be back for more of these! My group also split a Nutella pretzel bomb and oh boy, those are tasty! Especially since it was still warm. The menu has regular pretzels, and then a few sandwiches made from pretzels. We tried the regular pretzels, the pretzel bomb and the breakfast slider. Oh yeah and the homemade beer cheese. I will start with the slider. Holy Moly. That is what I said on my first bite. The bacon, cheese and egg are good but the pretzel roll is absolutely amazing! Please visit and get this sandwich. Get two or three because they are small. The pretzel bomb is like a pretzel doughnut so my boys were drawn to it and good thing. They said they think they named it because it is the bomb! It was filled with Nutella and cinnamon. I didn't get a taste so I will take the silence from them to be the notification of goodness. The regular pretzels were slightly crispy on the outside, with a slight buttery taste. The inside was soft the way I remember pretzels from German bakeries back home or even in Germany. The Pretzel Bakery is a charming walk up set in between some rowhouses on the Hill. They only bake one thing, but they do it well - pretzels. I'm from PA, a state where pretzels seem to be a food group all on their own. PA folk take their pretzels seriously, and I can say these are really good here. The perfect amount of salt, soft fluffy inside, chewy brown outside. Mustard is free to squeeze and 50 cents for a container. They also offer containers of caramel mustard, Nutella, and cream cheese for $1. The caramel mustard is heavenly. It has a balanced combination of sweet and tangy, and is a perfect compliment to the pretzels. It is probably good that I don't live in walking distance because I would be here all the time. A couple things to know about this place though: - Cash only. I didn't have any cash, but there was a Safeway a block away to get some. - They run out of pretzels sometimes, so check their facebook or twitter pages for updates. - There are only two benches to sit on, so seating is not in abundance. I'm curious to see if they expand their menu at some point. Pretzel ice cream sandwiches, chocolate dipped pretzels, pretzel sandwiches? Even if they don't add any options, I am completely happy they have opened and plan on being a frequent customer. Update 1/15/2013 - They now sell everything pretzels! No dips are necessary. These are some straight up tasty pretzels. I tried the pretzel bomb and everything pretzel with caramel mustard and both were delish. Some friends tried the pretzel dogs and also approved. I wish they had more options, though. I don't eat pork and you couldn't order the sliders without bacon because they were pre-made. This was a bummer cause I definitely was hoping for a sandwich when I went in. Also, I paid a dollar for the caramel mustard - all the sauces cost extra. Which is okay, but then please give me a helping of one dollar mustard instead of a tiny bit. (Of course, a lot of times when I say something about pricing at a restaurant I get a comment or message from an owner telling me their product is hand made from unicorn tears and imported premium Himalayan spices.
