After checking out several potential movers, I chose to go with The Professionals, holding my breath all the way. I had not moved in 18 years. I was this/close to a meltdown, and only needed one little problem to push me over the edge, even though I was only moving a short distance within the city of Chicago. After the move was completed, I had a whole new confidence in my decision-making abilities. The Professionals were great every step of the way, and I did NOT have a meltdown, not even a tiny one. Nobody comes out to check out your home before the move anymore to make an estimate. (I told you I hadn't moved in 18 years!) Instead, you can upload pictures. The Professionals website also has a form where you can check off which pieces of furniture you have. I moved on a Tuesday morning, which apparently is not a busy time for the movers, so it was no problem getting the day and time I wanted, even though it was prime moving season in Chicago. It may be harder to book for a weekend move. Th three-man crew arrived exactly on time and immediately got to work wrapping my furniture and taking it out. (I did not have them do any packing for me - everything was ready when they arrived). These three men worked so quickly, they were almost a blur. The two-bedroom apartment was empty, and they were headed to the condo. Unloading was almost as fast, except I had to tell them where to put everything. They also took items into my storage unit. The whole thing took 2.5 hours. They also cleaned up after themselves. All the wrapping was properly placed in the dumpster. They made sure I was happy with everything, and asked if I needed them to do anything else before they left. The Professionals are aptly named. Their professionalism was hugely reassuring to me. We could not have asked for a better crew than Jose G and his crew. They showed up right on time and ready to go. They moved 65 boxes in under 35 minutes and then without hesitation they moved over 5,000 pounds of commercial fitness equipment including dumbbells, a Smith Machine and benches. They took exceptional care of all of our items and fit everything into the truck without damaging a single thing. And the best part was they all had smiles on their faces and were beyond polite and professional the entire time. The movers themselves were great. They were efficient and professional. But late into the packing up, we were told they wouldn't have enough room in the trucks for all of our stuff. When the move was finished, the lead man apologized for not bringing all of our stuff to our new home. But when we called the company to deal with the issue, we got an entirely different experience. The Customer Service Manager never apologized for the situation. Her response was basically, "So what?" She kept insisting that there was nothing "in her notes" about the problem with the move, as though that ended the conversation. So, instead of doing the right thing and attempting to find a proper solution to get the remainder of our stuff to our new place, the company's stance was to leave us to our own devices. There are many moving companies in the Chicago area. I would advise using any one of them over this one. Their name might be The Professionals, but their Customer Service is as unprofessional as you can get. read more

I moved about 1.5 month ago from a 2 bed two WC condo to a 1 bedroom due to repairs to my main property, February 28th got charge $770 for twice the size apartment to a one bedroom. Then moved again in April 21st and got charged $915 about $145 more for half the size apartment. When i called management FRANCINE to approach the difference on price for half the size apartment, FRANCINE raise her voice at me thru the phone, trying to explain how was it that price was more when apartment was a lot smaller. From start to finish The Professionals were great! Their free estimate was easy and quick. It's was accurate and reasonable. They were communicative. I did have a bit of an issues with their forms, but it got figured out. On packing day they were prompt and quick. They had everything boxed up in about half the estimated time. The bill reflected that. We were so worried that they would miss the scheduled elevator time, but they were there early and got done in half the time again. The bill reflected it. It was very affordable. Nothing was broken, everything was put back in place, they were very careful with our stuff and they were very thoughtful. They really have their system down. I'm addition we had asked if they could throw away some items. There was a miscommunication and they didn't understand that the items were large. They couldn't take them. They did work with us to figure out a solution. We got it figured out and they did help us get rid of the stuff and still made it out early. We are so grateful for their help! read more

This was my first experience with The Professionals after a bad experience with a moving company that I had been loyal to for years. I had a four man crew move me out of a 3rd floor walk-up into a 2 story single-family home. They arrived early and got to work quickly. I couldn't believe how much these guys could carry in one trip - and was blown away by their strength and efficiency. One of my biggest stressors in my last move was the difficulty with which that crew had with moving my storage platform bed. These guys independently disassembled and reassembled it for me without a hitch. Honestly, a priceless relief. I got rid of most of my big furniture pieces because I was moving in with my partner. I was previously informed that they were not allowed to leave items in the alley and would dispose of them for me - which required a $360 disposal fee. I appreciated knowing this up front. They also hauled away some items from the house for us which I appreciated. They did forget to move my bicycle. Thankfully it was still secure at my old residence and a family member with a van was able to help me move it later. However, there was a bit of miscommunication regarding the disposal. Despite finishing the move in under 4 hours - they said they had to charge me for the full 5 because they still had to drop off the disposal items. This seemed really unfair given the disposal fee and my efforts to be prepared for the move. Thankfully, I followed up with the main office and they are issuing me a refund for the extra time I was charged. Between the way they handled my bed and the main office taking care of the miscommunication- I'm bumping up to 5 stars and would use their services again. read more

All movers are not equal. I've moved enough times to know that bad things can (and do) happen. So for our recent move I was determined to not fall victim to just any old mover. My daughter had used The Professionals a couple times and told me "don't even bother to look around, just book them". While I value her opinion and experience, my nature requires me to look around. Prices were mostly in a small bandwidth except for one or two huge deviations so this wasn't exclusively a pricing decision. The outstanding reviews are legit. These guys were incredible. They took great care with all the furniture, shrink wrapped everything, hustled so fast I couldn't keep up with where they were, organized everything going to storage and the stuff going to our new place, treated everything with care, were on time (early even) and finished quicker than the estimate - and, as a result, at a lesser cost. Over the years I've experienced many moving companies in many states, and it seems like I am 0 for 5 on groups in Chicago. I took a chance on The Professionals per recommendation from some friends that had good experiences and rolled with it. This was the first time I'd be using movers on one side of the move to load up a truck only, to move across state lines to Grand Rapids, MI. In my head I'm thinking: usually Chicago movers hustle at the first location, hustle for a good part of the second location, then they always seem to slow it way down towards the end to drag out that last bit of the running clock. How does that scenario play out when you only have a truck load and no destination? No elevators, no stairs, 1st floor unit, closest to the front door, straight shot to the truck, a "large 2 bedroom" amount of items, multiple dollies, everything packed in boxes ready to go... 3.5 hours. A 2 bedroom. The answer is: they drag out the window of time to equate it to an actual full round trip move. Additionally, and this isn't really a problem and I understand, but because U-Haul put us in a position of having ZERO moving blankets that we reserved (that's a whole story on another post) we had to purchase 25 moving blankets from The Professionals at $15 a piece resulting in a $375 cost. They would not let me rent the blankets, even if I shipped them overnight the next day, because I was crossing state lines. Again, I understand this part of it, but it doesn't make it any better that I had a $375 expense I wasn't planning on, and now I have a garage full of moldy ripped up moving blankets that I have no use for. We're about 75% through moving in to the destination, and I don't think we have a single piece of furniture that ISN'T damaged. Including all of the ones that were "professionally wrapped" in these Grade A blankets. I almost wish we would have just thrown our own furniture in the truck if it was just all going to look like it does here. Just under $1,000 total for this truck load. Overall, just not happy with the experience. I can't recommend The Professionals or any single moving company in Chicago. Happy to be out of there. read more

After using these guys 3 times over the past year I really hope I don't see them again for at least 5 years, but would recommend these guys to anyone looking to move. In fact I have...just recommended them to my brother who used them yesterday! It's been a big week for The Professionals and my family!! They were scheduled to move me at 9 AM and Serafina and his crew showed up at 8:45 AM...yes, they may be the only movers in this city that continuously show up early! My move had been estimated to take 2.5-3 hours and while it took a little longer (4 hours total) the movers weren't to blame cause they were hustling the entire time. They took good care of my stuff, even placed everything in the correct rooms (other movers I've used don't hesitate to throw everything in the living room) and were very friendly. Prices haven't changed- $85/hr + additional $45. And they bring wardrobe boxes free of charge. They do charge you for the shrink wrap and tape that they use, but they are happy to use your tape at no charge so don't pack it all like we did. On Friday, Kelly at the Professional Moving Specialist was very helpful. She was able to give me a great quote within minutes and I was able to sign the paperwork quickly after. Originally the move in time was at 12:30pm today, however she reached out to me because they had a cancellation for 8am. I immediately said yes to the new time. Thanks Kelly! Today, Alex and his team showed up a few minutes before 8am and sat down with me to sign some paperwork. After I showed them around my place, they immediately got right to work. Every thing was packed up in the van about 9am. I think we could have been at the new place sooner, but there was some loose dog hair that needed to be picked up. Once at my new place, they quickly unloaded the van and started putting the rooms together. These guys did such an amazing job and were extremely fast! They wrapped everything up so carefully. No scratches in sight. Alex was so nice, he removed the tv crate and packing supplies off my bill (my bill came out to $402!) I gladly gave them a nice tip. Victor and his three associates appeared promptly at 8 this morning, and by 8:05 they were running at full throttle! They carefully disassembled beds and bookcases, wrapped my furniture and artwork, put hanging clothing into wardrobes, and hustled everything down three flights of stairs to their truck. I'd rented plastic totes to pack things into; I definitely recommend it as an alternative to cardboard. By 1 pm, they'd completely moved me lock, stock, and barrel into my new home. When I sold my place I was recommended this company. The head guy was constantly reminding me to tip. I had to put most of my things in storage. I moved again and wanted to take some things out of storage so I went there to show them what I wanted. I was shocked to see how they piled my things on top of each other. When I got to my new place so many things were broken or damaged. It was thousands of dollars. They put a sticker on 2 leather chairs and when I went to take the sticker off the color came off. Finally I moved into a place where I was able to get everything. This head person was very difficult to work with. He didn't understand me and I didn't understand him. They are the BIG BOYS..many trucks..many staff and I I hired them to move me from my house I sold to the north side apartment building I love. They were available when no other mover could book me in July. They redid my quote a couple times and rebooked me when dates were not working for me. They email you a quote you approve and confirm. They have great phone people who know their job. They spelled out all moving requirements; costs; insurance; arrival; parking permits needed; final costs; how to pay all by email. They called 8/24 and asked to come early and I said yes. 4 well equipped movers in the truck. One to watch over the loading and three able bodied guys to move all my possessions, wrap them, tape them, asked questions; took apart my huge bed and put it back together. We started at about 8:45 and finished about 2:30pm. They took away all excess wrapping. They carried by headboard 11 flights because the elevator in the building was too small. My daughter and I cheered when they brought it through the apartment door. They are polite, professional, go through all the costs once done; you pay over the phone by credit; debit or cash; or cashiers check. No personal checks. They are the ELITE of movers.
