We have been wanting to try Quarry because it looks so darn cool when you drive by. We showed up for our reservation on time and had to try to maneuver around massive snow mounds and randomly parked cars to get into the lot and parked. Annoying. When we went in, we were greeted first at coat check, she was fantastic. Then went to the front desk to be seated, and she was delightful. But the positive experience ended there. We ordered a variety of apps and entrees to share (I'm 7 months pregnant and crave everything). The first thing we got was the ricotta cheese special app, which was delicious. The last thing we had was the apple cider donut dessert, which was amazing. But everything in between was blah. The mussels were room temperature in not enough broth. The skillet cornbread tasted like metal. The gnocchi was room temperature and tasteless. And the lobster bisque was again, cold, and tasted like a glorified tomato soup. We may be back just for the dessert, but other than that, definitely not worth a repeat trip. read more

Went for brunch. Loved the imaginative Bloody Mary cart. They pickled watermelon rind and okra and it was delicious. The lobster eggs Benedict was beyond amazing. House smoked bacon was the best bacon I'd ever had. They accommodated my gluten/dairy issues and grilled my own bread. Enjoy! read more

We were able to get a reservation at the last minute, which was great. The restaurant is very warm and inviting - good for catching up with friends or a romantic evening for two. There's outdoor dining but it was an overcast evening - downpour at one point - so we opted to dine inside. Our server, Jennifer, was excellent. There's a large wine selection, all price points and a nice dinner menu. The food was very good and served in a timely manner. We were not rushed. It has a great bar area with a lounge and fireplace, probably great for winter months. We were surprised to see empty tables and no one waiting. Our only negative, besides the plastic swans in the pond, we thought it was pricey for what you got, the servings were not large. Oh well. No kid menu, sometimes people bring kids! Well, it's a beautiful setting, I'll give it that. Stone walls, vaulted ceilings, large windows in the back overlooking a pond. But the food, not so good. The service was a wee bit indifferent, but okay. The kitchen needs help, maybe even a court-appointed receiver: I had a Ceasar salad, which is hard to get wrong. They did. Limp lettuce, stale croutons, dressing that tasted sort of like creamy Italian without a hint of anchovy. The pork tenderloin stuffed with prosciutto and fontina cheese was overcooked and had little taste. The accompanying veggies and potato were good, but I am not yet a vegetarian. My wife's scallops were like little rubber balls. I'm scratching my head, since it was Friday evening, but early and the restaurant was not yet busy. Oh, I should add that the prices were reasonable, although most everything on the menu was $18.99 or $24.99 or $27.99, which is kind of silly. Round it up to the next dollar, I told the waitress, I can afford it ! Fortunately, we met good friends, whose company we enjoy immensely. Thank God for that. Nice place, but a distinctly banquet like experience. If you like weddings and large catered affairs you will probably love this place but if you are looking for a passionately prepared gourmet meal worthy of the price they charge, you may want to keep looking. This review is based on apps and drinks at the bar - I haven't had a formal dining experience here yet. They have a great beer selection - not your typical bud light menu, so that's nice, and the mixed drinks sounded good, but we'll have to go back to try those. We ordered the mussels, which were good, but fairly bland. The hummus and veggies appetizer was good, though they don't give you a ton of veggies, but the hummus itself is really good. The oysters were huge and tasty, though the bartender didn't know where they were from, which was slightly disturbing, but nonetheless, we ate them and enjoyed them. My husband got a dirty martini, made to perfection. The regular dinner menu looks good, though pricy, but I'm sure we'll be back. read more

I was really looking forward to our dinner at The Quarry last night. We hadn't been in a couple of years; there are so many new places on the South Shore to try. To start, the Riesling I ordered was not a great glass of wine. It wasn't sweet; tasted more like a chardonnay. Would have been better off with a Moscato, but our server assured me it was a sweet Riesling, as they go. We had to ask for bread, which was just a basic, no taste, cold white baguette; nothing special. I did not order a small plate or appetizer as I was looking forward to dessert; last visit I had a chocolate Pot de Creme which was amazing. My husband ordered the seafood chowder which he said was quite good. For entrees, I ordered the lemon angel hair pasta with diver scallops. I asked our server if the scallops were cooked through as diver scallops are very large and I did not want a glistening inside. The scallops with the dish WERE NOT diver scallops. They were regular sea scallops - regular sized. Taste was fine. Nothing special. The pasta was somewhat gluey and there was no lemon flavor to the dish at all. It came with about 5 or 6 tiny cherry tomato halves; nothing to enhance the flavor. My husband had the wild boar pasta, which looked very good and he said tasted quite good. Maybe I just ordered the wrong items last night, but I was disappointed. Finally, looking forward to dessert, there were only 4 choices on the menu. None of them the Pot de Creme :-(. I ordered a slice of carrot cake. It was heavy with cream cheese frosting and not the best, but very good. Our server was attentive. There was a manager or host who kept hovering and asked my husband if he was done with his chowder when clearly there was half a bowl left. It just felt strange. Looking around the dining room, I just felt it was tired looking. The floor to ceiling windows are fogged and old looking and I just decided, you know what? this place just isn't what I remembered. As I said, we hadn't been in while because there are so many other options now and I'm glad there are. We'll just keep trying those other options and going back to the notable ones. We celebrated my husband's birthday on Friday night.The food was wonderful - plate-licking worthy. The service was attentive, but not overbearing. My only disappointment was the lack of gluten-free bread. There were gluten-free options for appetizers, entrees, and even a dessert, just no rolls. It was also more expensive than comparable fine dining restaurants we have been to. We enjoyed it thoroughly, but won't put it into our regular celebration rotation. read more

Food was great at the Quarry! We started with Welfleet Oysters, a pork belly bun, and swordfish tacos. Food for thought to the Quarry, substitute the chunks of cucumbers in the tacos for a little of your pickled cucumbers, just an idea! We also ordered the crispy salmon, cooked excellent with cauliflower and farro/beat mixture which was hot and delicious, it also had a pickled cucumber salad which was a really nice addition! I ordered the scallops, cooked perfectly, over delicious quinoa and brussel sprouts. I wanted there to be more. The server did a great job! All around we had a great evening. read more

We have been big fans of the Quarry in the past. We booked 8 people for the Brunch on Mothers Day, early afternoon. The server was awesome, the timing of the food a little longer than usual, but that was to be expected on a holiday. One of the favorite dishes we enjoy is the lobster eggs benedict, a signature brunch dish there. 3 or 4 of us ordered it, and that was when the problem started. First we were told that the kitchen had run out of baby spinach. We opted for the replacement green, and moved along. When the dishes showed up, french fries (with eggs benedict?) showed up unannounced, instead of seasoned fingerling potatoes (we waited 20 minutes for the entrees, how long does it take to brown potatoes?). This made no sense and we were not told about it in advance. It was a disappointment. Our reservations were at 1:30, the brunch ran till 3 so we were not expecting the kitchen to be out of anything (though the chicken and waffle was gone by then) as the restaurant was maybe 3/4 full. As Mother's day is one of the busier Sundays in the business, to be out of basics like spinach and potatoes to us seemed very strange, and frankly took the $19 dish down a bunch of notches. Four of us recently tried this place for dinner. We were all pleasantly surprised! Everyone's meal was great! Two of us had the scallops. Served with asparagus over quinoa. Very tasty! One had the wild boar papardelle and his only comment was he did not like mushrooms but the meal was great otherwise. The pork chop was the fourth meal and the meat was huge. He said it was cooked perfectly and very tasty! For dessert one couple split the donut sundae which came with two different dipping sauces, and we had the molten cake. We visited the restaurant a few week ago. Our waiter was nice, but his explanation of the food and how it was prepared made us all feel like we were in a science class, a bit over the top to put it mildly. He was very formal to the point we didn't feel relaxed and he could have loosened up some. The fried clams app was amazing but the portion was very small. Between four of us we were lucky to get one whole clam each. My mother ordered the scallops which were very good. I ordered the lamb chops which was a generous portion but they were very fatty and could have had more flavor, not worth $38 for this entree. Wine portion was very lean, about 4 ounces. Beautiful spot! (and a wonderful alternative to all the strip mall restaurants in this area) Met with friends for cocktails and appetizers at a high-top in the bar area by the fire - perfect. I so wanted to like this restaurant. I've been twice and both times were substandard. Service REALLY needs to be upgraded. We live on the South Shore and normally eat at The Scarlett Oak Tavern and Tosca's (both located in Hingham) The Quarry has a great location, lovely décor & ambiance, but something is definitely lacking. A restaurant in Hingham should NOT be near empty on a Saturday night. The fire pit and heat lamps were NOT blazing on a Saturday night. Why? On the two occasions we have dined at The Quarry, I've walked away scratching my head. On both occasions our waiters were good, not great. The first one behaved as though he were doing us a favor by refilling our water glasses and getting extra napkins to the table. The second experience the waiter seemed flighty and the lack of attention to detail in service really showed. We had treated out of town guests for a meal and this is what we thought. Appetizers were good not outstanding. The mussels could have used EXTRA crostini to consume the broth. The bread basket was pathetic no hearty, crunchy, artisan bread in that basket! Soft white bread cut on the bias. My husband's steak was dry although tender, it should have been juicy. My pasta dish was ok. One of our guests ordered the salmon with roasted cauliflower (she said her meal was delicious) another guest ordered the angel hair pasta with scallops and said it was good. Will we go back? As in three strikes and you're out? I don't know. Someone made mention that they also offer BBQ on certain days, we may try the BBQ and if the experience was anything like the last two..... Made a reservation for a Sunday evening. Not necessary, not very crowded. The atmosphere is elegant and comfortable. My second time there, and each time had a newly hired waitstaff. The service was pleasant and polite, no complaints whatsoever. After the drinks and appetizers, we had to wait an inordinate time for our meal, considering that the kitchen was not very use. The food was very good and satisfying, and overall a good experience. The total for four people averaged $55 per person. That was two appetizers, four drinks, four entrees, and no dessert. The Quarry Restaurant was recommended by our neighbor to my husband. It did take us 3 months to get there. I do not eat that much steak, but was really in the mood for one and felt as if I could get a good one at The Quarry. The evening: Delicious before dinner Mai Tai made with spicy rum. Husband loved the Cooperstown bottled beer. French Malbec was a first, and I found it very pleasant as my husband prefers Malbec, and me, the wino, usually order Cabernet Sauvignon. Very tasty drink and extensive wine list. Between the 2 of us, we ordered: olives, butternut squash soup, shrimp cocktail, 2 veggie sides, and 1 NY strip, medium rare. Was told that the strip would take 25 minutes, the restaurant was loud and busy. Was brought a medium to medium well cooked steak, very juicy and tender. Since the server offered to make me another steak at least 3x, I took her up on it. I was hungry after the wait and didn't want to wait another 25 minutes. Well, the person in charge came by and said it would be 8 minutes for a replacement; of course, it seemed like 80 minutes. Is it me? or is there any restaurant out there that observes customer etiquette anymore? We eat out all the time, and when I pay $118.00 before the tip, I expect that the meal will be served in sequence, with meal timing in place to enhance the experience. I go out to eat because I want a uncluttered table, timely service, and a variety of foods to please the palette served in a timely manner. I do not like to wait on my order to be cooked a 2nd time at the end of a long workday. Very tasty steak though. I would've expected to be comp'd for some portion of the $32 cost of the steak meal simply due to the inconvenience. Most places probably would have comp'd the entire steak dinner; however, they did replace all sides, and they did provide a complete side substitute because I am allergic to corn. Enjoyable evening, just puzzling that there was some financial comp when basically both steaks were cooked medium instead of medium rare. I usually cook my own steak at home, but The Quarry was recommended. So..... we'll probably go back sometime. read more

From the before dinner drinks right up until the after dinner dessert....everything was fantastic. I had been told it was expensive...and it is. But I have absolutely no problem paying for great food. Every bite was delicious. Every sip was good. The owners were delightful and friendly. From start to finish this is a great restaurant! Walking in the door we were greeted by a warm welcome and our coats were taken to the coat check by one of the owners. Our booth by the window offered a beautiful view of the quarry behind us. From our table we also had a view of the dining room and we were able to see that not only were we receiving great service but it appeared that others were very happy as well! Our server was exceptional in his knowledge of the menu and never made us feel rushed! The Brunch menu had so many choices. I had the 3 egg omelet, and my husband had the Apple stuffed crepes, both were delicious! Another awesome part of our experience was when the bartender brought over the mimosas & Bloody Mary cart, Our drinks were made table side! Their Bloody Mary mix is hand made with fresh ingredients and you can certainly tell! They have tons of options to customize your cocktail with house made pickled vegetables. We went to Nino's frequently. We were never disappointed. We went to the Quarry for lunch expecting as good a meal as we got at Nino's. It was one of the worst meals we had. Lunch was $50 for a dry overcooked pork chop that was over $20. My husband got a hamburger. He had coffee. I had soda. Even though the waiter was obtrusive, changing our silverware more than once, sweeping the table between courses, we still gave him a good tip. Our server did tell us the burgers were better at Burger King! We should have listened! read more

This was our first time at The Quarry. We "stumbled" on onto it while looking for a restaurant in Hingham with open reservations. Lucky for us, too, because the food was great. We started with mac n' cheese with crispy pork belly and the hummus platter. Both very good. Our entrées were also delicious. I had the cassoulet; my husband, the wild boar pappardelle; and our cousin, the hangar steak. We'd recommend them all. AMAZING brunch! Went in on a whim on a rainy drive back from out west and so happy we did. BLT with avocado & a fried egg was insane. The bread was light and fluffy, while also perfectly toasted. Hand-cut fries on the side which were so yummy. Adult iced coffee was delicious, as was my blueberry scone topped with lemon curd. (Obviously just a light breakfast :) Man friend got the breakfast platter (3 eggs, bacon, home fries, sausage, with a personal-sized skillet of cornbread). Anything but typical. All incredibly fresh with many local ingredients, I believe. Apparently the chef bought out the owners to run it himself. High five to him! read more

We went the Friday before Valentine's Day. The place was jam-packed, and it we weren't seated for 40 minutes past our reservation time. Given the crowd, I can give them a pass on that and will be happy to check them out again. The bartender was outstanding, managing a huge crowd essentially on his own. The decor is lovely, and the staff was great once we were seated. The food was good, but I think a bit overpriced. I held my baby shower here on Saturday 12/2. Everything was great-the service, food etc except for a couple of things. When it was time to cut the cake my sister brought, my dad & sister started to cut the cake and was literally taken from them & staff insisted on cutting it. By doing so it was assumed this was part of the service and 20% gratuity fee ($300) that I subsequently paid. When I received my check even manager Jennifer incorrectly assessed my deposit overly charging me $129.50 which had I not examined I would have had overpaid. I also was assessed a $122 cake fee which was not in my contract nor heard about prior to the event. When i asked jennifer about this she gave me somewhat of an attitude and could not really explain what this was stating "a lot of places do this," admitted she had not informed me of the fee and "probably online somewhere" since it was not in my contract. My best friend who is an attorney and present at the shower has corroborated this is illegal, unprofessional and just downright deceitful to do. Im not complaining about the fact that i only had 54 people there and was charged and paid for 61 nor for the 14 cappuccinos that i was also assessed when I'm fully aware of 2 or 3 that were served but feel I had to voice this. After a beautiful day with family and friends celebrating the upcoming birth of my daughter it's disappointing to feel taken advantage of. Short of the lack of communication it was okay. Just wish I didnt have to deal with this on a stressful day that I was supposed to enjoy :( read more

Tried this restaurant out on a whim, last minute decision early on a Saturday evening. Very nice, felt a little under dressed wearing causal outfit. Has a nice outdoor patio right off the quarry (which I'm not sure how it is with the bugs and mosquitoes so we sat inside). Our server was a delight; a gentleman who was very attentive to every detail, and knew the menu and questions regarding it by heart. The menu was small but I was told the smaller the more perfect each dish is. Im picky when it comes to new things and not being im an adventurous mood i played it save. My boyfriend got the filet, and I got the quarry burger. His steak was really really good. Tender, not over cooked. My burger was a little greasy due to the caramelized onions but it was a top notch burger. Their food was just more upscale, presentation, and a little spin off the normal. It is on the pricey side. Filet was $38 my burger was $16 and we got two drinks and the bill came to $80; before leaving a tip. It's not a place I'd go often, but it is definetly a nice date night out. We have dined in some the finest restaurants in MA, from the North End in Boston through the south shore. Some real hidden gems. And through all those experiences we have NEVER felt the need to walk out of a restaurant without ever tasting the food. Until now. We had an early 6:00pm reservation on a Saturday night. The place was EMPTY. We were seated in the middle of no where. We asked to be seated somewhere else. We were told no, other patrons had reservations so they could not accommodate us. This has never happened to us, since we had a reservation too. Ever. Our waiter felt compelled to explain in detail every entrée on the menu without us requesting such information. As another review states "it felt like science class." He never welcomed us or offered us a drink. I had to ask for them in between his descriptions of the food ..... "the best soup in the country." Really, in the country? The drinks came and the $10.00 glass of wine was less than 25% full. Really? Are things that tough that you have to cut back on the wine ordered by the customer? I then made the mistake of asking to have the out of season corn on the cob with my steak entrée replaced with some other vegetable. "Well the owner/chef likes to keep things consistent so I don't know ...... I'll have to ask. When it gets busy we don't like to start switching things around. You could still order the entrée (complete with corn on the cob and the full price) and order a $7.00 side dish to go with it." Really? Seriously? We are easily worth in excess of $100.00 a meal and a 20% tip Not to mention referrals to our many friends. And you can't replace a vegetable for me? Our first time at the new Quarry and you treat us this way? Seriously? We walked out. Again, we dine in some of the best restaurants in the state. They are always accommodating. Go figure they want our return business. The Quarry will not get ours. read more
