Best fish & chips of my life. Tender flaky meat, extremely crunchy and fluffy batter, giant portion. There are no negatives there! My girlfriend and I were strolling the area and went to look for Horace and Dickies to find they were closed. So glad we stumbled here. On top of the fish & chips, we also got bangers and mash. I've never had it before but it was also amazing. The sausage was perfectly cooked and complemented the mash very well. They added gravy on top which helped tie the different components together. Needless to say, we were done eating in under 10. I hope this place continues and survives the virus. After looking through my camera roll, I was reminded of that fateful night we found this hidden gem. When you walk past, and in this place, it comes across as a bit of a dive just for locals and the occasional barfly. What you don't expect is a grown up and family friendly pub with football (not American) on screens for days, couples at the counter having beers and watching the matches, and families having breakfast. I hubs and I went for brunch. He had the full English, very authentic, and I had biscuits with gravy. I had now idea how much food I was going to get. There was a huge wide bowl with home fries (best ever) on the bottoms with two biscuits and tons of sausage gravy on top. I kept thinking, I'm never going to finish this, but I did. I went to The Queen Vic for my friend's 29th birthday this weekend. What a quaint place! There's a "hidden" upstairs so don't be fooled by the cozy space. I went upstairs and the server was awesome- funny and personable. He recommended the Fish and Chips over the Pork Belly Poutine, so I went with that- It was delicious! Crispy batter on the outside, juicy/flaky fish on the inside. I do want to come back and try the Pork Belly Poutine to remind me of my Canadian roots. My friend ordered the Shepherd's pie which was delicious for the cold night we were experiencing. I also ordered Boddingtons- I was so excited that they had this on tap! So frothy and creamy. Came here for a date night on a Saturday- cool little pub! Even the outside looks just like a British pub, which certainly stands out on H Street. I'm not usually too adventurous with drinks but the bar menu intrigued me so I got a Guinness with cider -- quite tasty. The fish and chips were amazing, the fish was deliciously hot and flaky. The tartar sauce was clearly homemade and was a little more peppery than store bought brands but paired wonderfully with the fish. Lovely place and amazing dinner!! read more

Of course, we all know COVID has made restaurants uphold certain restrictions, so I call ahead of time to chill on the patio and watch the Liverpool game. No problem with my reservation. The hostess greeted me with love and seated me right away. I shared the patio area with 14 or so people... It wasn't crowded at all. We enjoyed ourselves and watched the game in good spirits. I order some drinks & made a land & gnocchi dish, which was bomb !! (it's like chicken & dumplings, but with lamb). I forgot the name of my waitress, but she was outstanding. Drinks weren't too firm, so be aware. As far as parking ... smh. It was a weekend, early in the day, so free parking was in play. But, it's on Hst.. so you know it's residential and packed on the street. Be ready to walk a couple of blocks if you're going on a weekday. Of course I'm coming back because I'm #Liverpool4Evaaa. Worst $80 we ever spent on British food. I don't know how this place has 4.6 stars. We lived in England for eight years and had fish and chips often enough to know what's authentic. We ordered two meals of fish and chips, at $20 each and the fries were overly fried, dark brown, and super greasy. The fish was soggy and under fried. We also ordered the caramel doughnut, the doughnut was not even sweet! How can a doughnut in caramel sauce be bitter and have no flavor??!!!! How? We also ordered the fried tomatoes with some type of rubbery cheese that made me gag. The ONLY redeemable part of this meal was their cheesy cauliflower. This is some of the worst food I've ever had. I hate that we paid $80 for such awful food. This place should not be serving food to the public. read more

We've gone here a couple times & have become fans. My fish & chips have been very good both times I've had them. The portion of fried cod is impressive, & the fries are fine. There's also a small portion of spicy mushy peas. My husband had the seafood pasta & was very happy with it. This illustrates perhaps the biggest surprise about the menu--it includes non-English options that are very good. We like the atmosphere a lot, too. There's a feeling of authenticity about the place in that it doesn't try to stretch itself into an upscale restaurant. Ok had to try it out for their veggie ratings. Nice looking quaint place with bar at two levels - the lower bar was dark and busy so decided to dine at the upper level. Upper level by the window is clearly the way to go if you are not here just for the bar. Lots of new beers to try - tried 2 half pints. The old speckled hen was good and very British (not too hoppy but had a casky. flavor). Bellhaven twisted thistle IPA was a bit more hoppy and more interesting. Yay for something new to try. Umm for the lasting impression though - not likely to go out of my way to try them again. Started with Welsh Rarebit (veggie) - toasted bread sticks served with a cheddar cheese dip/sauce/gravy with mustard flavor and mustard seeds. I liked the sauce - the toast was ok (bit greasy). Too much for a single person. Did not do full justice to the bread sticks - had to leave space for the main course. Ordered the Dhal Palak which is vegan dish and is served with saffron rice and vegan raita. Note that Dhal is the black lentils and the yogurt-like sauce is vegan and a bit on the sweeter side. The preparation was surprisingly good (I know my Dhals) - zesty and spicy. Recommended for the vegans They also had some good veggie pasta options. Gnocchi plus they would improvise the tagliatelle for veggie folks. Looks like a friendly place and the bartender upstairs was managing the crowd well. Crowd was on first name basis so sounds like a hangout place for the regulars. The place got filled up fast by 7:30 pm! From what I could see, folks were having a good time. This night I made the grand mistake of giving one of my favorite bartenders a thumbs down because I was trying to be funny. Carlos, deserves the biggest bows. I apologize for my dark humor. Queen Vics is home because of Carlos's kindness. I don't meet a lot of Hispanic bartenders but Carlos is one of the best. He makes DC feel like home and that is exactly why I will continue to go. The downfall of a good place: QV was always a bit hit or miss. When they hit, it was excellent, though. They recently jacked up their prices and it's no longer worth the price of admission. I never naturally think to go to Queen Vic, but when I do, I never regret it. They have many hard ciders to choose from and one on tap that's perfect. They have a very filling dish of mac and cheese that's great (Add pork belly to it to add even more great flavor). However, it's their brussel sprouts for an appetizer that will make you droil for weeks. It's AMAZING! It also has a more dive feel to it, which is refreshing in a city like DC. read more

The servers and bartenders are all super kind and enthusiastic, and the restaurant has nailed the British pub ambiance. It is a little cramped, but it's not too loud so that you can't hear yourself and your friends talk. The food wasn't my favorite, but probably because I ordered oysters. The oysters were high in price, didn't taste fresh, and came with no suitable sauces. My friends ordered the waiters' recommendations, however, like the fish & chips and their poutine, and they were both incredibly tasty! The poutine was especially swell; it came in a hot basket with thick cuts of potato fries and was smothered with this cheesy sauce and pork belly slices. This place has a good vibe. Two bars, one on each floor and a rooftop area for sitting outside/smoking. Lots of British memorabilia, good beer list, creative cocktails and good pub grub. Fish and chips are an obvious favorite, the roasts they have on Sundays are also delicious. Lots of televisions for sports fans, they often open early for big soccer matches. Music is at a level where you can talk to the person next to you without yelling. Another thing going for authenticity is that one of the co-owners is actually British. read more

I visited Queen Vic for the first time and last time on February 24, 2020. When my friend and I arrived, the Sunday/Monday female bartender was very welcoming and friendly. After browsing the menu, my friend and I ordered our drinks - I ordered the Scottish Mule and my friend ordered the Jameson Shandy. The Jameson Shandy was pretty tasty, but the Scottish Mule was gross. There was too much sour and the ginger beer was flat. I politely sent my drink back and the bartender politely gave me a smirk and made me a new drink. To make it simple, I requested a Smirnoff Blueberry and Sprite, which was also just okay because the Sprite was flat. As the night goes on, my friend and I ordered a late night snack. The asian wings with fries was a huge hit and super delicious. I guess the bartender was ready for us to go because when we finished eating she didn't ask if we wanted another round of drinks and quietly placed the check in front of us. Although we did want another round, we took this as our exit queue and opportunity to spend money elsewhere. This is when things got really left...we handed the checkbook back to the bartender with two credit cards so she could split it down the middle and roughly 5 minutes later she obnoxiously alerts us that she dropped the checkbook and lost my credit card. I patiently waited roughly 20-30 minutes for the bartender to retrieve my credit card and during this time period. - She condescendingly asked if I gave her a credit card although she told me she dropped both cards and obviously I knew I gave it to her - Had another guest and/or staff member help her look for the card, not sure of who he was because he was sitting at the bar as if he was a patron - Had her manager assist with the credit card hunt - Had ME come behind the bar and assist her - Did not ask once if my friend or I wanted a non-alcoholic or alcoholic beverage while we waited When my credit card was finally found behind the DISGUSTING bar, of course the non-forward thinker bartender did not wipe off my card after it was in filth and proceeded with charging my friend and I for our two drinks and snack. I was less annoyed that I was charged after being inconvenienced (mind you at this point I am sober, waiting and it is 12:30 AM on a Monday night/Tuesday morning) and more annoyed by the nerve of the bartender to not only lose my card, but condescendingly question if I gave it to her and not offer anything during our inconvenience. As a native Washingtonian from the Trinidad neighborhood, I try my best to frequent spots on the H Street Corridor, but this will not be a spot on my list. read more

Fantastic English and British beer selection- one of the only outlets in DC to serve this. This place gets four stars simply for that and for its properly pubby ambience, and its welcoming character. I m a big fan of Sunday roast thus this trip to DC I tried the Sunday roast. A bit surprised that it's easier to find the roast meal in DC than in NYC. Just like the reviews, their Sunday roast is actually quite yummy. I like how the Yorkshire pudding roasted and it tasted yummy with the gravy. The gravy is a bit too salty and too thick and would be awesome if adjusted. Cabbage is not commonly seen in roast meal in my past roast meal hunting journey but the cabbage with broccoli was actually quite yummy. A good place to try the roast meal:) read more

Stopped by for a quick drink the other day while waiting for Toki Underground to open. We sat at the bar and there were a few others in there too. Love the British vibe and decor! :) Drinks were good and bartenders were nice. I think this place is more about the ambiance (which I did love) than the drinks. I didn't try out any food on this visit since we were going to dinner, but based on other reviews people seem to really enjoy it - will have to come back for food! Queen Vic's Sunday Roast is the best meal offered on H Street. It is simply amazing and if you dine here on a Sunday and do not indulge in it, you are an absolute FOOL! The vibe here is perfect and the staff are all very laid back and helpful. My husband and I both ordered the Sunday Roast with beef and I do not think we spoke a word the entire meal. Walking out, we both agreed that we had found the best meal on H. This was my first experience with Yorkshire pudding, YUM. Everything was done perfectly. I think the gravy was my favorite part...no the duck fat potatoes...noooo the beef...no the yorkshire pudding......hahahaa idk why I am trying I could swoon about this dish and all of it's components all day! I came in on a Sunday with a group and sat at the bar. The brunch menu was great offering some traditional British pub type dishes and other regular brunch items. They also offer a Sunday roast lunch. Feeling in a snack type mood, I had the ploughmans platter which was more than enough to share between two people, it also comes with a side salad. I ordered a Cardiff Bluebird, which is hard cider, blueberry vodka, and Sprite. It's a sweet and fruity drink. We ordered bangers and mash and the shepherd's pie to share. Both dishes were really good. I don't know if it's because I was really craving comfort food on a cold day, but the dishes really hit home for me. I like to think of The Queen Vic as an upscale British Pub. Why? Because the quality of the food they serve here goes WAAAAY beyond anything you would expect from pub fare. They take their culinary skills here very seriously and it shows with their deliciously prepared food. You will be very pleasantly surprised with the food here like we were. Can I just say how perfectly fried my fish and chips were? How absolutely fabulous their homemade tartar sauce was? I can't really express that, you really need to just go over there have have some. It was probably the best fish and chips I've had ever since my last trip to London. I reckon I will return for the Sunday Supper too! Pot Roast with duck fat?! Oh yes please!! The staff here is super friendly and accommodating too. Even coming here on a busy night, you still feel comfortable just hanging out and soaking up the atmosphere. We even enjoyed ourselves here during a Captials playoff game (and loss) and a visit from some New Zealand rugby players who nearly at all of the fish and chips in the restaurant. English Pub, unique dishes and even better selections of European beers. This place is authentic, come on, it's owned by a couple from the homeland, they make sure it's top Notch! Absolutely amazing from the food to the service! I keep coming back and have never been disappointed yet. First things first, get the bone marrow, I know, I know, it sounds weird and awful but it's flavorful and tasty spread on top of their toast with pickled shallots and parsley. It's soooo savory and then the leftover bones are a plus, as I can take those home for my puppies and it will take them at least 3 months to destroy. (I can't even get antlers for that kinda price that will last that long!!) Next, their menu offers a bunch of amazing entrees that I could go on and on about but seriously, nothing will disappoint you. I really happen to enjoy the pimento Mac and cheese with added pork belly! Oh em geeeeee..... I'm drooling at the thought! Our first visit was the tail end of a quiet Saturday night bar crawl. We stuck to the downstairs, where just two other groups were mingling and head-bopping to the Pandora station playing. I spied Pimm's cup on the brunch drink list and our bartender was more than happy to make Sank and I one. Tasty and refreshing, no wonder Libby & D favor it so. Service was excellent and friendly, even stopping to rock out to the music with other patrons near the door. Black Velvetine was not quite a hit, and Cardiff Bluebird far too sweet. Noel's Seduction is a runaway winner as far as the cocktails go. On our return, Julia and I wriggled through the sports fans cheering at the tellies over the upstairs bar and perched at one of the tables on the balcony. We ordered three items to share around: roasted marrow bones, pan seared chicken livers, and fish & chips. You know, something less adventurous for the weak of heart. Our server raved about the chicken livers, but honestly these were pretty middle of the road. Somewhat under-seasoned, scarce on lardons, and the shallots yielded to the stronger flavors present. Bread with both offal dishes was lightly charred on the grill, average as far as carbs go. Fish and chips were okay, with the fries definitely cut thick enough to be starchy. Piping hot and just the right amount of breading, but it's no Eamonn's. Presentation is cute, what with the rustic newspaper-looking napkins. Marrow bones were definitely my favorite, cooked all the way through and they even left a bit of meat on the outside that I was happy to gnaw on. Coarse salt on the side to season at your leisure. I'm sad that they took the bones away when I wasn't looking, I definitely wasn't done. Beef pasta special was amazingly hearty and rustic, but the roast pork belly had a boiled-at-home flavor accompanied with black-eyed peas that were too al dente. Veal sweetbreads let me down, though the celeriac puree was nicely done-- the former weren't seared properly, and had membrane left on. I'll be back to this charming pub, I'm sure. On my still-to-try list: white anchovy toast, beef heart tartare, bangers & mash, roasted vegetable tart, sticky toffee pudding, eton mess.
