I like to think of The Queen Vic as an upscale British Pub. Why? Because the quality of the food they serve here goes WAAAAY beyond anything you would expect from pub fare. They take their culinary skills here very seriously and it shows with their deliciously prepared food. You will be very pleasantly surprised with the food here like we were. Can I just say how perfectly fried my fish and chips were? How absolutely fabulous their homemade tartar sauce was? I can't really express that, you really need to just go over there have have some. It was probably the best fish and chips I've had ever since my last trip to London. I reckon I will return for the Sunday Supper too! Pot Roast with duck fat?! Oh yes please!! The staff here is super friendly and accommodating too. Even coming here on a busy night, you still feel comfortable just hanging out and soaking up the atmosphere. We even enjoyed ourselves here during a Captials playoff game (and loss) and a visit from some New Zealand rugby players who nearly at all of the fish and chips in the restaurant. I even survived being around their drunken American groupies who kept screaming, "I Love You" as the guys walked by. Yup, I was in a pub all right, but even that didn't ruin my evening. You just still like being here. It's nice to know we have such a nice, laid back neighborhood hangout to call our own on H Street. I really fancy this place and I don't even drink anymore. English Pub, unique dishes and even better selections of European beers. This place is authentic, come on, it's owned by a couple from the homeland, they make sure it's top Notch! Absolutely amazing from the food to the service! I keep coming back and have never been disappointed yet. First things first, get the bone marrow, I know, I know, it sounds weird and awful but it's flavorful and tasty spread on top of their toast with pickled shallots and parsley. It's soooo savory and then the leftover bones are a plus, as I can take those home for my puppies and it will take them at least 3 months to destroy. (I can't even get antlers for that kinda price that will last that long!!) Next, their menu offers a bunch of amazing entrees that I could go on and on about but seriously, nothing will disappoint you. I really happen to enjoy the pimento Mac and cheese with added pork belly! Oh em geeeeee..... I'm drooling at the thought! Try whatever they have in their specials board, you'll be overjoyed with all of it! The service is impeccable, bartenders, cooks, servers, all are easy to speak to and as helpful as can be. Our first visit was the tail end of a quiet Saturday night bar crawl. We stuck to the downstairs, where just two other groups were mingling and head-bopping to the Pandora station playing. I spied Pimm's cup on the brunch drink list and our bartender was more than happy to make Sank and I one. Tasty and refreshing, no wonder Libby & D favor it so. Service was excellent and friendly, even stopping to rock out to the music with other patrons near the door. Black Velvetine was not quite a hit, and Cardiff Bluebird far too sweet. Noel's Seduction is a runaway winner as far as the cocktails go. On our return, Julia and I wriggled through the sports fans cheering at the tellies over the upstairs bar and perched at one of the tables on the balcony. We ordered three items to share around: roasted marrow bones, pan seared chicken livers, and fish & chips. You know, something less adventurous for the weak of heart. Our server raved about the chicken livers, but honestly these were pretty middle of the road. Somewhat under-seasoned, scarce on lardons, and the shallots yielded to the stronger flavors present. Bread with both offal dishes was lightly charred on the grill, average as far as carbs go. Fish and chips were okay, with the fries definitely cut thick enough to be starchy. Piping hot and just the right amount of breading, but it's no Eamonn's. Presentation is cute, what with the rustic newspaper-looking napkins. Marrow bones were definitely my favorite, cooked all the way through and they even left a bit of meat on the outside that I was happy to gnaw on. Coarse salt on the side to season at your leisure. I'm sad that they took the bones away when I wasn't looking, I definitely wasn't done. Beef pasta special was amazingly hearty and rustic, but the roast pork belly had a boiled-at-home flavor accompanied with black-eyed peas that were too al dente. Veal sweetbreads let me down, though the celeriac puree was nicely done-- the former weren't seared properly, and had membrane left on. I'll be back to this charming pub, I'm sure. On my still-to-try list: white anchovy toast, beef heart tartare, bangers & mash, roasted vegetable tart, sticky toffee pudding, eton mess. I should have gone with my original instinct to get up and leave after no one even greeting our table for 15 minutes........ I absolutely hate when terrible service ruins what could have possibly been a halfway decent meal, and unfortunately, this was one of those instances. I came here for a later dinner after seeing a show at the Atlas Performing Arts Center. I had this spot bookmarked for some time now, and after deciding Toki Underground would not work out tonight (still 2 hour wait at 9:45), I looked through my bookmarks in the area and noticed The Queen Vic had consistent positive reviews so my boyfriend and I decided to take a chance on it. That was our mistake. Everything else, well, that was a combination of incompetence on the part of our server, Joe, and possibly the kitchen, however, I highly suspect our order never even made it back to the kitchen. We were seated quickly and given menus quickly. I noticed a male server (who I would later find to be our server as well) yakking it up with the table next to us. He took his time finishing that conversation-at least 10 minutes since we had been seated- before he even left that table. In the meantime while he was being a chatty Kathy, some girl brought out waters. At least another 5 minutes or so went by before Joe (and I only know his name because the host said that's who would be taking care of us and he was the only server upstairs) came over with a gruff "know whatchya want?" Before I get into what we ordered, I'll shine a slight ray of light on The Queen Vic-the chalkboard menu had some pretty tasty sounding options to supplement the small, traditional British menu. House cured pastrami reuben, poutine with pork belly, pork belly donuts, and what I ended up ordering, the lamb lollipops with pork belly bits and a blackberry reduction. I also had a twisted thistle IPA. My boyfriend ordered the chicken tikka masala. Ok, so back to the service.......my beer, quite literally, took 12 minutes (yep, I was annoyed and counting at this point) to appear in front of me and this was after the server walked past us numerous times, servicing other tables. My boyfriend flagged him down to ask about it and Joe's response, "oh yeah, sorry about that". The reason I believe our order never made it to the kitchen was that a table who sat down after us and ordered after us, had food in front of them about 20 minutes before we did. Our food took about 40 minutes. Also what makes me think our food order never made it to the kitchen-after that server brought out the aforementioned table's food, he looked at us-with no food- and conveniently disappeared for the next 20 minutes before reappearing with our entrees offering a "sorry about that" yet again. We never saw him after the food drop off, and when we wanted our check after this disaster of an experience, Joe was, again, nowhere to be found. We sat at least another 15 minutes after we were finished eating before he made himself available to bring our check. I worked in the food service industry in both high school and college so I am pretty understanding and patient, but this was just absolutely unacceptable to the point that, although the food was ok-not great - we will not be making a return trip to The Queen Vic. Oh yes, the food, an afterthought..............the lamb lollipops were cooked nicely and the portion was large for $16. The sauce was a nice sweet complement to the lamb, however, the lamb to sauce ratio was skewed, and I would have appreciated more sauce. The "duck fat" potatoes were nothing special and were not well seasoned. If I was not ready to eat my arm by the time my meal actually arrived, I would have left the potatoes behind. The chicken tikka masala came with basmati rice and naan. The flavor was spicy as expected and the chicken tender. If our service had been even slightly better, I could give this an A-OK rating, however, I cannot give anything better than a two star review given my personal experience-which will be my first and last- here. read more

Review #100 went to a very sexy man's beard so I'll make a theme of it and dedicate #200 to another sexy man: Noel, you can seduce me any day. This is my favorite bar in the District and the Noel's Seduction is the best beer based cocktail I've ever had. The fact that we now live stumbling distance to The Queen Vic is both a really good and a really bad thing. Good - for so many obvious reasons. And bad - because the frequency in which we're tempted to go here does not financially support our house remodeling efforts. Sure, this is an awesome bar with good Irish, Scottish and British beers (I think there are four different Belhavens including bottles), great beer based cocktails, fabulous staff and a great laid back atmosphere. But, the food at the Queen Vic sets is apart from other good or even great bars. Every food item here is amazing, whether it's a pasty as a late night snack, biscuits and gravy for breakfast, or any one of the daily chalkboard specials for supper. I've never been disappointed and highly doubt I ever will be. The Queen Vic turned me onto mussels with its flavorful sauce and perfectly crusty bread. It excelled at donuts with pork belly. And it has been the venue for many fun nights (and days) like its own birthday celebration complete with a cake contest, and Saint Patrick's day to get a pint of the black stuff at 9am. But I have waited enough; let me get back to this sexy man. I'm not sure if it's his slim physique or the cardigans, but Noel's got it. He's as sweet as his signature drink and a pleasure to converse with. Justin's lucky he too gives me good beer or he might just have some competition from Noel. Ryan and the rest of his crew are pretty great as well ("pretty great" is an understatement"), and someday I hope to meet Ryan's Queen herself. read more

I had a great time last night when I came here. I can't imagine you will find another bar filled with Irish folks than you will here on a Sunday night. The place was crawling with them -- mostly industry people -- including my friend that I came here with. We showed up late. Around midnight, and shut the place down. We talked to the bartender, Noel, who exchanged stories with us about Ireland and how we all miss it in a great way. I had a pint of cider. My friend had endless pours of Guinness. We had several shots from Noel who was letting us try a variety of different things he has created for the Queen Vic. All shots were pretty tasty. He has a good eye for mixing different things. One particular shot we tried was with pear vodka and sweet tea. It is something perfect for the summer and recommended to try when you go. It has more components, but those were the two main things. The ambiance of the place is really chill. Everyone is there to have a good time and just to mingle with one another without judgment. I really liked that aspect of Queen Vic. This is more or less the neighborhood bar on H Street. It definitely fits the mold of H Street, and that's probably why I frequent this area as much as I do. I will definitely return. The Queen Vic is a pretense-free, no-frills bar and restaurant the serves British food and very strong drinks. I mean strong as in an $8 Tanqueray & tonic will leave you with a buzz. Yeah, good stuff. Anytime I've visited for drinks, I've always had a good time, and I'm fond of the roof deck in the summer. Service has always been friendly and restrooms are clean. I ate there recently, and enjoyed my meal. Since I am a picky eater, there was only one thing on the menu that I like: fish and chips. It was delicious. Neither the fish nor the chips were too greasy; and both were extremely crisp. The portion is huge - you can definitely share with someone. Another 12 taps upstairs, some different! All beers priced strategically like $7.27 so with tax it's an even number lol. Happy hour daily 5-7pm, a buck off drafts. No flights but halves are just $3 so lightweights like me can sample many beers. Just don't expect an over-the-top hoppy IPA, that's not how the Brits roll. Serious food at the Queen Vic: a lunch menu, a dinner menu, a late-nite menu and even a brunch menu! Also cheese and meat plates, they promise house-made chicken-liver mousse and fois gras. And a huge poutine - fries, cheese and gravy mmmmm. Everything about $8-16. Tried the spinach-mushroom house-made gnocchi which came with pancetta, a great big dish of yummy carbs, this is British!? Loved it, fairly priced at $16. Vegetarian rating: 4 stars, way way beyond chips and beer, the regular menu has Welsh rarebit and a Dahl palak, and that day's specials included spring veg risotto, baby kale salad and a goofy mac-n-cheese. Surprisingly these are your people. My only complaint - minor - is the service. A sole woman bartender on the ground floor making drinks and tapping beers also serves all the tables, runs the food, etc. Even with the place barely half full she's stretched way, way too thin. Perfectly friendly but too many drinking peeps, too little time to notice an empty glass. The narrow storefront will fool you, this is no little dive. It is maybe not be wholly fair to review the Queen Vic unfavorably, but I used to be a big fan of this place. It holds itself out as an English pub. It never was that, but it was at least a pleasant bar with an English pub flavor. I went there last night and found that it is now a sports bar that still serves pub-like fare and some British beers. If you like the typical row of televisions playing "the Game", a pounding sound system that shakes your bones, and someone shouting and swearing at the television then this is your place. Clearly the bartender was fine with the fellow shouting and pounding the bar as he stood near the him chatting with him periodically - when he wasn't staring at the game and neglecting the other customers. read more

I really like the idea of this place, and it's a great place to watch rugby or soccer. But other than the Sunday roast or the full English breakfast, the execution of their food was barely decent when I went back there recently at 2-ish on a Saturday afternoon. Probably the worst fish & chips I've ever had - the fish was muddy flavored, heavily battered, and so ridiculously greasy throughout, like they cooked it at the wrong temperature. The mushy peas were also the worst I'd ever had, like they'd come out of a can. A couple of the oysters were not fresh (tasted dead/like garbage). Everything we ordered was underseasoned, too - from the daily samosa with onion bahji to the pigs head croquette balls. They would have been so great if they just had salt, or a sauce other than the tartar sauce that came with the latter. The onion was fried into black, greasy oblivion - definitely an issue with the fryer that day. Perhaps the food that I did like from the previous time I ate here (on a Sunday) was made by someone different than whoever cooks there on Saturday afternoons. Or maybe it was because I hadn't had the fried items yet. In the future, I'm probably going to stay away from the food and stick with the drinks...although I may give in when I'm in the neighborhood again and try their sticky toffee pudding, one of my top 2 favorite desserts. EDIT: Soon after I posted this review, I was contacted by the business, and a couple of days later, the chef suddenly left. I can't help but feel a little guilty. :S read more

The Queen Vic is home to the world's slowest bar tender. I was mesmorized. Imagine watching a sloth pull the tap, and that's what this bar tender looked like. It's impossible to look away out of sheer confusion as to how anyone can do such a basic task so slowly. That said, there is a fantastic selection of British drinks here at great prices (and having lived in London for a six months, I frequently find myself missing them). Plus, the chairs are outrageously comfortable. Overall, a chill bar and a great spot to hang out and catch up with friends. read more

I've been here multiple times and have always had exceptional food and drink. Love that it feels like a sporty dive bar AND has such gastronomic range. This time I had the cod on the board (would highly recommend ordering from the board) which came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Five months later and this is now my absolute favorite spot on H Street. This is the only place in the Atlas District that I feel like I'm with family when I'm there. This has now surpassed customer service because I no longer feel like a customer. I feel like we are family and friends chilling in their home listening to music, discussing life, while eating and drinking. The food is still as good as the first time. This particular meal I'm posting a pic of is Coq au Vin. Essentially, it's chicken over mashed potatoes. I am ashamed that I ate the entire plate full but I just couldn't stop. Look and watch your mouth drool at the sauce. Mmmmm. They are covering the patio now. Soon folk will be able to sit out during the winter. I stopped in on my way home from work on a Friday evening. Started with a pint of Boddingtons and the Spiced Nuts. Love their tap and chilled glass system, saves on glass washing when you want to change-up your beer. The Boddingtons was perfectly tapped and the nuts addictively good. I'm so bad with names, but the bartenders were super friendly; took me on a tour of all their beers on tap, including tastings, very nice touch. Met some of the other locals, very friendly and down-to-earth. I also ordered the burger, which is made from local lamb & dry-aged beef. Tasted incredible with the onion jam! The bun was a bit dry though. The specials that evening sounded pretty spectacular and the Poutine that my bar mates next to me ordered look awesome. This may be my new local pub! read more

One of the best fish n chips places in the DC area! I visited the Queen Vic a couple of weeks ago with a coworker and we both really enjoyed it! It was honestly the biggest piece of fish I'd ever had! I could only finish 2/3 of it and even that was a feat. The fish n chips was a bit pricey ($14.55) and you didn't really get to customize what type of fish you got - I think we got cod or haddock (not entirely sure), but it was HUGE and came with some awesome dipping sauces, as well as lots of fries ("chips"). The downsides of this place: it's only open from 5pm-3am, so it doesn't serve lunch. Also, it's not located in the best of areas. H Street may be "up and coming," but it doesn't feel super safe to walk there alone even during the day. But those considerations aside, the Queen Vic is truly amazing and I recommend it highly! read more

I went here on a week night with a few friends and wasn't expecting much from the food. We came here 5 minutes before happy hour ended and ordered beers. When the tab came, the server said it was on the border of happy hour ending so that's why she didn't give us the happy hour price but offered to give it to us anyways. So if you come here around the end of happy hour, make sure to remind the waiter that happy hour hasn't ended yet. Overall, the service was good. I search the states for good fish and chips and this place has a good dish. The batter is a little too salty but it's still good. It's a little pricey ($15.95) for fish and chips. I was actually planning on trying Toki Underground (a famous ramen place a few doors down) with my cousin and his girlfriend, but the wait there was 3.5 hours, so we wandered down H street and ended up at The Queen Vic instead. I'm so glad we did! This was my first time having British food, and it did not disappoint. My cousin's girlfriend had studied abroad in England a few years ago, so she vouched for the authenticity of the food here, down to the various sauces at the table. Although this is technically a pub, the food here is phenomenal! Our party of three sat upstairs. It was relatively full even at 6PM when we arrived, but by the time we left, the place was PACKED. There were a bunch of TV screens behind the bar playing various news and sporting events, as well as a bunch of pennants hanging from above. Our server was really amicable and checked on us frequently throughout our meal. He kept giving my cousin and me thumbs up at various points, which was very amusing. The wait was a bit long between the appetizer/soup and our entrees, but fortunately we were not in a hurry. I enjoyed my soup of the day (some sort of chowder). The three of us also shared the roasted marrow bones, which we all LOVED. They were incredibly fatty and delicious. My cousin ordered the Fish and Chips (big portion!), his girlfriend ordered the Full English Breakfast , and I ordered Fried Chicken Sweetbreads with Foie Gras Sauce. It was my first time trying pancreas, and it was great, although the texture was not what I expected (I'm a huge innards fan). My only criticism was that the portion was small so it was not enough to fill me, although the value was great since my dish was less than $10. I had a fantastic dining experience here and enjoyed trying all of the new, unique dishes. Perhaps I should try the haggis on my next visit! ;) read more

We searched all over town for a sunday roast. We found it. But it did not seem very british. The vegetables (potatoes) were fried for one. So it was like having fries basically. I like fries, but would've preferred roasted vegetables. We used to walk into any old pub in london and have their roast on sundays and the vegetables were always the best part - moist and tender. I was pretty disappointed. it's also really crazy loud inside and that's saying a lot since my baby is also really loud at times and screams in my ear. The roast itself was not bad. I had the beef and my husband had lamb but i could not tell the difference to be honest. Pretty odd huh. The gravy drowned out any flavor of the meat, but it was a tender roast, i'll give them that. It looked like a good place to watch "football" since that was what everyone was doing. Anyway, pretty different from expectations so we are still on the hunt for a traditional sunday roast. read more

I had never heard of the Vic until I met people who were friends of the owners. As of today I go to the Vic at least 3-4 times a month, either to watch rugby, have brunch, spend a night on the town or just have a drink or two and chill. I love the atmosphere here and was pleasantly surprised by the food, crowd, the venue (two levels with two full bars and an outdoor deck). I was here on Christmas Eve and it was wonderful. Not only was H street a deserted neighborhood but the Vic was nice and intimate -almost everyone who was there was either friends with management or lived nearby. We decided to eat family-style and ordered the fettuccine, devil's on horseback (my favorite appetizer), beef stew and the headcheese. Everything was delicious - I have never had beef stew where the potatoes cover the stew - most versions I have had are more of a soupy dish. I did not eat the headcheese but I was told it was phenomenal. I liked the small salad that came with the dish - light but potent dressing garnished with dill. Devil on horseback is my fave, the fettuccine was tasty as well. The last thing to come out were the donuts. I can't even describe what it tasted like. Foodgasm, a slice of heaven. Mind-blowing. Just a few words that come to mind. Even though I do not live in/around H Street and do not frequent the area when I am in the neighborhood my first and last place I hit is the Vic. Would give four stars but the service was awful. They ignored our table and our server gave us extreme stank face the whole time, and never said a single word to us. Sat at the bar and ordered the Ploughman's lunch $14 (pics ABOVE) thick slices of juicy ham, cheddar cheese slices, apples halves, celery and chutney. Original English style mustard upon request. Good vibe at this place and lots of energy from neighborhood locals and outta towners who realize this is a REAL English pub with taps and bottles with REAL English cook Ian unlike Union Jack's and other places.. Ryan entertained a large group watching the Chelsea- Manchester game at 7:45 AM. He opened his doors and had some good ol' English breakfast eats ready. I'd give this place a solid 4 1/2, if that was possible! Ordered dinner from this place for the first time last night - for hubby's bday. He LOOOVES shepherd's pie (& how great that it was Natl Pie Day - that falls on HIS bday for a reason, i'm sure), and the reviews of this place had me hooked. He also LOOOVES sticky toffee pudding - again the reviews pointed me to TQV. Only service that delivers from the restaurant to Columbia Heights is Postmates which charged a friggin fortune to deliver (not using them again!!), but it was a bday dinner - so no prob. The food was really good. The s.pie was super tasty - perfect lamb stew under tasty mashed potatoes w/ a bit of melted cheddar on top. My lentils dish was good - but nothing super special. I did really like the Naan-like bread that came w/ it. Really fresh & a great chewy consistency w/ grill marks - yum. The pudding was really good, but oddly - the bottom of it was hard. Maybe it was entirely fresh and had been reheated? That's what it seemed like. The taste was fantastic, though - of the part we could eat. The warm sauce was excellent. We had a livery pork hash because they were out of chicken and it was pretty enjoyable. The pickles were a solid accompaniment and the bread was toasted well for a contrast to the pork. I was excited to finally find a British pub in the area. Usually there are only Irish pubs and none of them ever have Strongbow on tap. The food was good and I had the fish & chips because it's a British pub and that's what you do. Our waitress was new and she was pretty rude so I can't rate this place 4 stars because of it. There is a pretty ample selection of beer and cider and the menu is full of great meals. I had a hard time picking what I wanted to eat for dinner. I definitely want to go back and try the Sunday roast sometime. The area where it is located isn't the greatest but it has definitely improved over the last few years. It would be nicer if there was more parking available. read more

Belhaven Scottish Ale. It's like buttah. Other than that, the atmosphere at The Queen Vic is just like the other little restaurants along H Street. Small and cozy! After getting denied at three other places, we ended up here one night and settled in to the back table. We heard that this restaurant was like other restaurants along the street but "minus the hipsters." I suppose that's true. The crowd was a bit older. Not a big deal. Our appetizers were interesting. The Fried Oysters on a Half Shell knocked my socks off! The pickle was a nice touch. On the other hand, the Welsh Rarebit threw me for a loop. The bread was very tough and the cheese was overwhelming! Still, we ate it all. For our entrees, we were pressured into ordering the Fish and Chips, as it is their famous dish. I though the batter was great and perfectly crispy. The fish was definitely fresh. However, something about the entire meal left me wanting more. I'm not sure how else to explain it except I wasn't overly impressed. Also, that mashed peas side was more than a little repulsive. Bleh. For dessert, do not order anything besides the Sticky Toffee Pudding with Whipped Cream. We tried three desserts (the pudding along with the Apple Crisp thingy and the Dark Chocolate Cake) and the pudding was the only dish worth eating. It is out of this world! One last thing to note: the service was very friendly. The owner, not sure of his name, treated us and every other customer like VIP! We like to go here after or Saturday hockey games and then tend to hang out until we can on no longer sand , up anymore. Let me cut to the chase. The Queens Vic is a serious establishment, offering authentic British fare and drink including a Sunday roast! At TQV, you will find incredible food from an incredible menu. So far, I've had the fish and chips, the breakfast poutine, and the fried chicken on french toast. The fish and chips were huge and probably the best I've ever had. The mushy peas were a nice, authentic touch. The breakfast poutine (as recommended by a friend) is one of the best dishes in DC. Pure salty, fatty goodness. Make sure to smother it in malt vinegar. Everything is just spectacular. The beer list is great. They stick to their British roots, and carry just about every major style. It's very easy to find a good beer to pair with their food. We always like to head upstairs as that seems to be the "spot". There is a heated outdoor section with a couple dart boards and a television. The best time to come here is during a sporting event, like rugby, hockey or soccer. I'm sure football is a great time as well! Local sports teams like to flock here after games. Best burger ever!!!!! We initially went to h street to visit Toki.. Well... We were told around 8~pm that there was a 3 hour wait.. Welp! We yelped a few places near by since it took us forever to find parking and found ourselves at queen Vic. So, the bf orders the burger with pork belly and an egg from their specials menu, I was suggested the chicken tikka Marsala by the bartender. Well, the burger was deeeeelicious! It was huge, the pork belly wasn't that overly fatty piece that tasted like nothing, the bun was delish, the patty was so juicy.. Everything was perfect about this burger. The chicken dish was just alright. I never tried the British version of chicken tikka Marsala (I know it's their national dish and all) so I listened to the bartender and tried it. It was extremely filling, we brought home left overs, and just alright- not amazing. We ordered the pouting halfway through and thank goodness they ran out of an ingredient to make it- we were stuffed! read more

Me and my girlfriend came in here wanting to have a nice Sunday brunch. We were pretty excited after reading the reviews for this place. We ended up leaving after 5 minutes without getting anything but extremely poor service served with a side of angst from the bartender. (we sat at the bar) We inquired about some of the food on the menu and got short short answers from him. We decided to instead ask about one drink from the brunch menu. It was met with "are you familiar with this alcohol?" to which I replied "no sir". He gave me an answer of "it's a cordial" and left it at that. I gave up trying to be nice at that point, grabbed my girlfriend and left without ordering anything and went across the street to try a new place which was fantastic. Needless to say, they lost 2 potential customers who were initially excited to try this place and their food out. read more

Great selection of beers. Great ambiance. Nice waitresses. Delicious food. We ordered hand-cut fries and loved it; Market Salad is so good with its tarty dressing with celery slicing; and Welsh Ralesh (Sp?) which is basically sliced bread with melted cheese-- pretty good. Fabulous food to absorb all alcohol that we plan to guzzle down. And they do not rush us out-- we arrived early and left long time later-- we definitely enjoyed our time here celebrating a friend's 42nd birthday on a Wednesday night. Oh. My. Yes. I love this place! The Queen Vic has the BEST fish and chips in DC, if not the nation, and the ambience is awesome. The floor manager/barkeep was amazing as well and so friendly (his name was Noel I believe)! He gave us some free shots and free pint glasses to keep after our meal. Still love this place! And just wanted to add some comments: I've been twice since my last review, and have tried the Full Monty and the Sunday roast. I have nothing but good things to say about both dishes, and the portions are perfect. I usually feel overwhelmed by portion size at restaurants, but I always leave the QV feeling well-fed and not overstuffed. The beer selection has only gotten better in the past few weeks - I do wish they'd put it on their website, though! Anyway, I think I'm going to be here every week, so the Queen Vic can get to know me :) read more

There is one thing that will always keep me coming back to Queen Vic - the bomb a$$ biscuits and sausage gravy on the brunch menu. I crave that meaty gravy at least weekly. Queen Vic - in no uncertain terms - is most definitely a "dive." Which would normally not be my scene, but the bartenders are ALL so friendly and accommodating. The drinks are basic, but the mimosas are always champagne-heavy (which is a good thing). I will definitely be back and I really want to start exploring the dinner menu and Sunday roasts! read more
