Tried this place last night and had a nice time. Very pleasant, simple decor with a fresh vibe. The host and hostesses were friendly. Our server was nice, but service was a bit slow. We were not in a hurry though and enjoyed the time between drinks and food. I had the Railpenny Punch which was awesome. Beer on tap could use some tweaking. They place a bottle of tap water on each table which is fine, but really wish they would bring over glasses with ice when people are seated. Lukewarm tap water isn't pleasant on a warm summer night. We had the Szechuan wings to start. They came out deep fried which surprised us a little. We were not expecting that. Granted we didn't ask about preparation, but the menu also didn't have a description beyond the dipping sauce. The wings were quite good though. We had the Railpenny burger and the fried chicken sandwich. The burger was off the hook amazing! Cooked to perfection and exactly medium. Every bite was sumptuous. The fries were a little disappointing though. They were very thin and overdone. Fried chicken sandwich was interesting but very heavy on the BBQ and pepper jelly and very light on the chicken. We skipped dessert, too full. We will definitely be back. The prices were excellent and they even have a kids menu. This is a nice addition to Epping. read more

The Railpenny Tavern used to be one of our favorite go to restaurants in the area. The craft beer selection is delicious and the overall modern twist on pub food with some upscale entree options is unique and well done. However, our dinner tonight was worse than going to Applebee's except we paid 3x as much. We expected Valentine's Day to be a crazy busy night and it was. They were clearly understaffed which is not a problem as we don't like being rushed. The pre-fix, 3 course menu was what my wife chose. The Brie and fig jam was good. The rib eye steak however was flavorless. It came out pre cut which is weird. The tavern burger which is usually awesome was dry and cold even though it was cooked medium, probably because it sat under the heat lamps too long. The burger is also about 30% smaller than what it used to be and it was covered in aoli about 3x what should actually be put on the burger. Fine every restaurant has an off night. The real kicker is when we get the bill, the charged us for the appetizer and dessert when they were supposed to be included in the price of the pre fix of $45. After waiting for 20 minutes for them to fix the billing error which was off by $17, they brought back an unitemized receipt that was still off by $8. Impatient after having been at the restaurant for over 2 hours. We signed the bill and left. I will probably think twice about returning ever again. read more

We have been going to this restaurant on a somewhat frequent basis since moving to the area two years ago. Last night was our first time when leaving that we both agreed, maybe we'll give it a rest. 1. Stale popcorn was not a good start, followed by 2.After ordering, an unusually long wait for the salads. 3. A BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger without Bacon, illicited an apology and a hastily retrieved small dish of bacon bits to fill the order and 4. a very very long wait for a second glass of $8.50 Chardonnay to top off our experience. It had been an emotionally draining day for us anyway, but looking back we should have stayed home and put something on the grill. read more

Delicious Mac and cheese!! Got the dads mac and it was creamy, cheesy and bacon-y. They made me a delicious, beautiful virgin mixed drink and I loved it. They also gave us some lightly seasoned popcorn to munch on while my friend and I waited for our dinner to arrive. The restaurant has such s beautiful, welcoming and warm environment! Reminds me of a restaurant you'd see pictures of in a magazine, no detail of the design was overlooked. Been here twice now and not your average pub or bar food. Interesting menu blend of choices from burgers with a twist to appetizer choices to more complete dining dishes. Hours are limited so don't be surprised if not open when passing by or thinking about this place. Service is fast, nice environment and friendly people. We dropped in early without a reservation but the place filled up fast with people. Would suggest calling and making a reservation if coming after 6pm. read more

Finally got to try this place out last night after passing on it before because of it's very full parking lot. The atmosphere was great, service was slow but I didn't really care, since I got my wine right away (4 oz first pour, 6 oz second). The problem was when the food arrived we got one overdone and spiced (not described on the menu) fish fry, a cold meal of flat steak, etc. and the fra diavlo with some suspect mussels, 3 shrimp and no roasted tomatoes as described. read more

This was my second visit to the Railpenny. Sadly, if I could give it zero stars, I would have. My first visit was to celebrate with the family. The consensus was the food just wasn't that good. This time we went with friends. Two out of us could not eat their meal. I ordered the Coconut Green Curry Rice Bowl. The only word I can use to describe it is horrendous. My buddy got a pork loin meal which looked very sparce on his plate and the meat had been sliced so all the juices were gone. You could see how dry it was before he even tasted it. I'm sure the waitress was sorry she asked how everything was. She was very nice about it and removed those two meals from our bill. Still cost us $120 for two meals and four drinks (and one meal was a salad). Wish I could have said my second trip was a more positive experience than my first, but sadly not. This Place is New to Epping. It has awesome food, a nice bar the staff are very friendly and there adding a deck and fire pit out back. OK, I was sick of standing in traffic on 125 and needed some libation. I looked across and saw Railpenny and decided to stop in. What a surprise! The place was packed at 5:00 and the ambiance was a delight. What really made the visit worthwhile was the waitstaff. They were knowledgeable about the beers on tap and served me a delicious IPA. Needing just a snack, I had their hand cut fries that were simply outstanding. I will definitely be back for a meal. read more

Went to a wine tasting event at Railpenny last week and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Wines from Cycles Gladiator were paired with "small bites" from the kitchen. The food was delicious! All wines featured that night can be purchased at Greg and Jane's Beer and Wine in Epping. Also, Greg and Jane and I enjoyed an American hamburger, Mac and Cheese dish and stuffed peppers at the bar. Wait staff was great, good ambiance. My only complaint was the food was basically excellent, only they put this spicy aioli on almost everything we had. Really masked the flavor of the food, and everything was tasting the same. Maybe put it on the side? The roasted cauliflower could have been delicious if they had left it alone and hadn't sopped it in vinegar. Their featured drink, a cosmo with sparkles, was so sweet, none of us could drink it, although it was pretty! Will try this restaurant again when we return to NH next year... read more

My husband and I decided to follow all of the positive reviews and check this place out. We were seated in a timely manner for a busy Saturday night and the atmosphere was great. Our waitress was also friendly and attentive, for the most part. We ordered salads topped with steak, wanting a light dinner on a hot day...My spinach salad had figs, goat cheese and sunflower seeds - awesome combination, however not enough goat cheese (only a few little crumbles) and about a half a cup of balsamic vinegar drowning the baby spinach (literally - there was a huge amount left in the bottom of the bowl with baby spinach swimming in it that I would not finish). My husband's caesar salad was topped with an enormous amount of shaved cheese - too much and the steak for both of our salads was plain and unseasoned. My husband ordered his medium-rare and ended up not finishing it because it was extremely rare. My guess is that these salads were made in a hurry and ingredients were just thrown in hastily because they were busy...Not acceptable though. Service, atmosphere and wait time were good, but food left a bit to be desired. read more

Just visited this establishment. Nice interior, would have been nice to sit outside since there is a deck. But they were not prepared for that. Ordered the chicken sandwich and fries. Regular fries were good, sandwich was tasty, but not as described. Was supposed to have slaw but I don't remember seeing or tasting any. Ordered a cocktail and it was very good and powerful! A friend of mine wanted to try the Railpenny Tavern because she heard the burgers were great. We went on a Tuesday night and it was quite busy but we quickly got a table. The waitstaff was very attentive. The beer selection seems decent enough. We both got burgers and my friend got a sale for her side. It looked like a fair amount of food. I got the BBQ burger. It was ok, it was cooked medium just as I had requested . It didn't really have a ton of flavor to it, other than something was some what heavily salted. I wasn't sure if it was the bacon or the onions. The roll was fresh and the sweet potato fries were pretty good. I'll go back but not in a hurry. read more

Just recently went back to the Railpenny to try out their Sunday brunch and wow I was really impressed. My husband and I were actually on our way to go grab breakfast elsewhere when that other place ended up being crowded and chose to give the Penny another go. So glad we did. The frittata that I got so yummy. My husband got the French toast with eggs and sausage patties, which he doesn't advise people order, just stick to the bacon. The patties were way too tough! And although we really enjoyed our morning cocktails we were a little underwhelmed with the mimosas, we really thought the flute glass is a nice touch but could have been served in a larger glass for the price. I got the bloody Mary which was tasty but a bit on the spicy side for that time in the morning. Overall we would definitely come back and do the brunch again as well as probably try out their dinner menu. This place is super cute and our waitress was great! read more

Went here after spending the afternoon in Lee and we had a fantastic time! I would definitely come back here. We ordered the calamari for an appetizer and it was delicious. So new restaurant in town and not bad, menu is limited and they seem to be out of a lot of things. Worst part is the owner, she presented as stressed out and anxious, treating staff poorly, making the bussers (who were doing amazing) pick up everything as we sat it down. I went to the Railpenny Tavern with my mom on a nice afternoon. The host neglected to bring over the full menu and was a bit annoyed when asked if we could sit on the deck. I asked twice for lemonade and the server was less than nice. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and it came out and at first looked OK. Upon biting into the chicken it was a dark brown meat and looked like a spoiled previously frozen piece of meat. Upon notifying the server he said it was dark meat and "Americans just don't know what dark meat is". He then took my food and paraded it around the restaurant to the chef in the kitchen where it then returned to the table and they let me know "it was fine and I could get something in addition to the chicken if it didn't like it" There was never an offer to take it off the bill and that maybe I should take it home for another family member to eat. I will not be returning and will be letting others know about my terrible experience at the Railpenny Tavern. read more

Tavern fries cold, tried to get waitress attention. She finally asked how dinner was, told her they were cold. She said she would try and get manager to comp us a dessert. So ordered mint chocolate cheesecake. It was made in cupcake container so way too much crust, a big puff peppermint on top. Not good for $7 but thought it would be free. Ate 2 bites of it. Got bill and waitress apologized that manager wouldn't authorize free dessert but too $2 off bill! Seriously? Never saw the manager! Waitress apologized and said to come back another time when it wasn't so busy. (7pm on a Saturday) We said "no"... and she says "sorry!" Plenty of opportunity for manager to come over or give us a rain check to try again - nothing! I want to love this place we need more options in Epping. I went for happy hour excited to try apps and drinks but was so disappointed when our server says the apps are 2 salad options and fries!! Our very sweet server was under 21 and had no idea about the drink menu. The HH included beer and 2 different odd mixed drinks. Not happy! How about wine?
