My wife and I stopped here on a weekend visit to Lake Almanor. The staff was friendly and the outdoor seating area was pleasant and welcoming. My pour of whiskey was quite heavy, which was a welcomed surprise. Food was decent, however, I didn't see one staff member wearing a mask. read more

Maybe other people built this up too much, or maybe we just ordered wrong, but we were both disappointed in the food. I almost ordered the Shrimp 'n Grits, but when I saw the write up they had on the menu for their steaks...perfectly aged and perfectly cooked, yada yada, I thought I'd better give steak a try. I ordered the smaller rib-eye, medium rare. First of all it was boneless! What kind of steakhouse serves boneless ribeye? The steak had NO grill marks, NO charring - it looked like it had been baked or fried in a lukewarm pan. It was overcooked and dry - no juices when I cut into it. Just awful - and ridiculously expensive for what I got. My husband got the New York special and his steak was the same - no grilling or charring, dry and juiceless. This place is an hour and twenty minute drive for us. We will NEVER go back! read more

This little hole in the wall is worth the drive into town. Every time I have eaten here the food and the service have been great. Last weekend we were looking to get some dinner and I wanted a good steak. Having eaten here only for lunch in the past I wanted to give their dinner a try. Glad we did! I had the NY strip steak medium rare and it came out perfectly cooked and smothered with mushrooms, onion s and chive butter. The salad that came with it was fresh and just the right size. The baked potato was huge and loaded with things that are not good for you but sure taste great. The wife had what looked to be a great burger and we agreed that this place will definitely e on this for dinner again soon. read more

Went for Sunday breakfast, building freezing, food cold (5 out of 6 of us). Waitress did a good job serving, but some of us didn't get what we ordered. At one time, place great for all meals but lately terrible, trouble is in the kitchen with keeping food hot until served. Talked to other friends, same complaints. We had been to the Ranch House in the past with mostly mixed (on the lower end of the scale) reviews. Food was so-so, hours were unpredictable and the hostess/owner was quite unfriendly. We were looking for a place to take the folks out for lunch, so I yelped the local restaurant scene. Much to my surprise, the Ranch House was getting 4 and 5 stars. I read some comments about new owners, refreshed menu and decor changes so we had to give it a try. WOW! We were met with friendly faces! Sat down at our table and had a nice conversation with Robert, the owners husband. They are both awesome and committed to creating a nice atmosphere and erasing the bad memories. My wife had, in her words, "the best patty melt ever", my mom was treated to "the best salad" she has had and the "shrimp was delicious". My dad had the 1/4 pounder with onion rings and "the burger was perfect". I had the club sandwich with fries, the sandwich had more meat than Oscar Mayer himself and the fries were served piping hot! If you had been to the Ranch House in past, but not within the last year or so, you simply must come check it out! You won't be disappointed! read more

And it's definitely the best service you're going to get a sit-down restaurant in Chester. I've been here a few times in the summer of 2017 and I haven't been disappointed. Looks very different in person. Definite dive bar. Went for dinner, sat outside where it looks like a collection of items found at the trailer park. Could overlook that but the food was lacking and took forever to get. Waited 45 minutes for salads. Mosquitos ate us alive, seriously!!!! Server was nice and polite but food was overpriced and not cooked well. Terrible start to our vacation but did give us lots of laughs at how we stayed for some reason. I wouldn't recommend this place I had chicken marsala it was greasy and the chicken was burnt charcol. I showed it to the waitress she seemed unconcerned didn't ask if she could get me anything else I was hungry I didn't feel like waiting another 40 minutes. my friend had the scampi the only thing good about it was it had an abundance of shrimp it was dry the noodles were tasteless.
