Stopped by for an early dinner and got seated immediately. My server "T" was excellent, very friendly and attentive. Menu selection was good. At first I thought about trying some tacos which are $3 each from 3-6 pm every day of the week, but the green chille turkey meatloaf caught my eye instead. My family and I just ate here. They were extremely slow despite not having anyone in the dining area. Multiple times, when we asked for something, we did not receive it because our waiter, Ambro, completely forgot. If we weren't good people, hands-down, we would have and could have walked out of this establishment without paying. Once again, as soon as we walked in, we were greeted with a smile and seated promptly. It must be the south and southwest hospitality we have experienced this entire trip. All the waiters had food themed shirts - Michael was wearing bacon and eggs. We ordered one regular coffee, one dirty chai (my favorite and it was yummy), a Veggie Omelette, and Carne Adovado Grits. Everything came out pretty quickly. The veggie omelet had plenty of veggies in the inside with a side of fresh fruit (pineapple, grapes, etc), and a side of wheat toast with fresh blackberry jam. The grits were thick and creamy, topped with tender pieces of carne, sliced avocado, and house made crispy fried onion pieces. The inside has some unique artwork and many pieces are for sale. The only issue was a lady at a table across the room who had her phone on speaker the entire time, making it very annoying. I almost went over to say hello to the person she was talking to since she wanted the whole restaurant hearing their conversation. The one thing I've noticed, while traveling this past week, is that a couple of our breakfasts were more expensive than a couple of our dinners. Husband and I were going through town and remembered this cafe from another visit years ago and wondered if it could possibly be as good. We were not disappointed! My Santa Fe Smashburger was so good I looked like a taster on a cooking show. "Mmmmm-mmmm." I had agreed to split meals with husband and really dreaded giving up any of the burger. Once I tasted his beans and rice with a perfectly spiced fresh tomato salsa, however, my regret disappeared. The Ranch chicken was good but not great. The sweet potato fries were perfect. Service was great. Attentive server even though it was a busy brunch time. I had the carne adovada with cheesy grits. The server suggested having with a side of red chile. I have really never had grits but was interested in trying something new. The carne was fall apart tender and delicious. Tried The Range at this location and was very disappointed. We decided to order dessert first and wanted their seasonal cheesecake. Waitress came back and told us they were out so we ended up ordering the death by lemon . Then we decided on what we wanted and were told that they had no bourbon steak so we ended up ordering posole, meatloaf, hot turkey plate and a Lobo club. The posole ( one star) came out with a dinner roll and the turkey plate was soooo disappointing because there was no cranberry chutney and the dinner roll was pretty hard. In the end, the poor waitress was the only one serving all tables and I made sure to leave her a tip but left this review. We have eaten at The Range on the east side of town and the service was memorable. The only highlight to our dinner was the dinner salad that we had substituted on our plates fir the veggies. The best Range is the one by Cottonwood mall. They have the best food and service. The one on Rio: I ordered my Urban Salad. I asked for extra cheese (it comes with fried feta, and I always get extra). I even specified extra fried feta. The server came back with the salad - which was not at all as good as the one near Cottonwood- and a bowl of shredded mozzarella (which even appeared in the salad, first time ever. I get this salad all the time). Ugh. And, the dressing was quite watery. Will not return to this location. The server acted like we were a bother. read more

My husband and I eat at this location and many of the others around town. It's one of our go to restaurants. That being said, tonight's meal was a disaster. My Cesar "salad" was two heads of roasted Romaine lettuce thrown on a plate and drizzled with some Cesar dressing and sprinkled with a few croutons (pictured). It was extremely difficult to eat. I could barely cut it with the knife. I gave up after only 1/2 of the first head of lettuce. The eight pieces of grilled chicken ensured I wasn't going to go too hungry. If I wanted to make my own salad, I would have stayed home. Bring back the deviled egg Cobb salad-that was delicious and a real salad. My husband had the Bourbon Flat Iron Steak. Years ago, my mom worked, briefly, at a location of the Range Cafe. So, I've eaten at them, often. Joe and I were near Old Town, early, so we decided to get breakfast. I had heard about this newer location, so we went to check it out. I love the kitschy decor, like other locations. One thing that I immediately noticed was the inclusion of some longer tables. So smart! Lots of waitstaff and busboys. There was constant motion around the restaurant. Both Joe and I ordered pancakes. He ordered the regular and I got the blue corn. I was initially surprised that there was not an option with eggs, bacon/sausage, and pancakes. When the pancakes arrived, I realized why that wouldn't be offered. The pancakes were HUGE. My blue corn pancakes didn't look all that blue/purple, like I've seen other places offer. However, what they lacked in a blue hue was made up by the blueberries and pinons that were cooked inside. I was surprised at how many pinons were added. I know they don't come cheap. I did add a side of bacon. It was just ok; not too thick, nor flavorful. Joe's pancakes were just as big as mine. Our water and tea glasses were constantly refilled. The waiter checked on us several times. There was a cute little art vending machine. The machine was a repurposed cigarette vending machine. After a long day traveling from Florida with countless delays, we are here after arriving. The place is very well decorated and the server we had was very sweet. My husband ordered the combination plate and loved his chili relanos. I ordered the blue enchiladas. Everything was very good. The rice was green so that was a first for me. While the presentation was impressive, I can't say it's the best food I've had or anything I'd go out of my way for. I had the Range Chicken. For a to-go order, it was very nicely plated! It came with black beans and hatch chili rice (the green tint kinda throws you for a second!), and nearly half a sliced avocado on top w/ a side of salsa. Unfortunately- the food, itself was pretty bland. Besides the black beans, there wasn't a whole lot of flavor to anything else. The portions were generous, but nothing to really rave about. I saw "cream puff" and wasn't paying attention to the "giant" prefacing. I love cream puffs! (Guilty pleasure.) So, this was pretty much the best part about this meal. OMG, it was HUGE! Bigger than my hand, filling nearly the entire to-go container. And, it was very good! Probably one of the best I've had (even better than the famous ones from the Alaska State Fair). I couldn't even get 1/4 of the way through it. Definitely portion enough for 2+ to share! The staff here were very nice upon arriving to pick up. Prompt, friendly & made sure I left w/ utensils or anything else needed. They also have their own, custom utensil package- branded & bright, colorful turquoise cutlery! Cute touch, I thought. The establishment itself was nice- clean & spacious inside w/ a nice ambience. Looks like a nice place to enjoy a meal w/ good company. I'm not sure I'd go out of my way for this one. Swing and a miss......Stopped in for breakfast. Greeted quickly and pleasantly by staff. Love the interior decorations as it is so unique and inviting. The menu here is rather extensive yet the prices seemed higher than i had remembered from visiting last at another of their locations. Server was quick to take drink order and deliver. Yet when missing a straw, needed to request it two times before delivery. Four meals were ordered and delivered, all of them were on the colder side of warm, definitely not hot. The server warned of hot plates, but that was more to melt the cheese under the salamander thus the plates were hotter than the food was. Plate 1: Child portion size breakfast burrito with bacon smothered in green chile. As stated cold, green chile was forgotten tortilla not fresh. Plate 2: Biscuits and gravy- as stated not warm. Hard to understand how you can mess up gravy poured or one split biscuit surprises me. Flavor was good. Extremely disappointed on the price of $8.99 for such a simple dish. Plate 3: Child portion size breakfast burrito with crispy bacon and no chile requested, bowl of fruit medley . As stated cold, asked the server to reheat. Really bothered me that the server politely agreed to warm the dish, yet removed the plate and stopped by a new table, placed the food behind her on a vacant table and took the order from the new table. Not pleased at all with that! This meal once warmed was really delicious. Bowl of fruit was exceptionally large (pineapple, grapes, strawberries, blueberries,cantaloupe) and tasty. The pineapple was not ripe enough to enjoy however. Plate 4:Picture attached Carne Adovada Huevos Rancheros plate served with red and green chile. Meal was cold as stated. Appearance was very nice, and the pork was tender and flavorful. Flour tortilla was not very good. Eggs were cooked as requested.
