My only complaint about The Range Café is that it is inconsistent. When the food is good, service is usually that too. Other times, the wait for a meal is long and the food is cold to the touch. Some friends invited me to breakfast at The Range...one up on Wyoming and Montgomery. Staff greeted me immediately. Quite a bit busier than I expected. We were seated quickly and drink orders were taken almost immediately. I ordered the huevos rancheros christmas. Their red chili was better than the green chili on this day. My only criticism was that the food wasn't served as hot that is temperature wise as I happen to like. I brought it up and one other in our foursome agreed. It was definitely tasty and plated beautifully. There are lots of restaurants that serve a good huevos...just a recommendation. Staff was terrific!! read more

This place is a local gem. The sign is faded and it looks a bit run-down, so (not being from around here) I didn't know what to expect. I'm so glad we finally went in after driving by many times. It was packed when we got there (on a Sunday afternoon). My husband and I waited about 10 min for a table. It was WELL worth the wait, and there was plenty to look at while we did. There's a huge mural in bright pastel colors, lots of paper mâché cows painted blue, and a collection of plastic toy ranges as decor. There's also a gleaming case packed full of tempting cakes and pastries. The food was excellent: good quality, prepared well, and served with pleasant efficiency. We also appreciated that it was spicy but not over-the-top (to our out-of-town tastebuds). I got the blue corn enchiladas, my husband got the Huevos rancheros. Both were delicious and the portions were substantial. I was only sorry we didn't have room for desert. Now I crave their blue corn enchiladas every time I drive by. There's an extra something special here that will keep us coming back for more. read more

YIPPEE!!! I just found out that I'm getting Tax Refunds so I came back to The Range on Wyoming to celebrate for lunch. But, to my surprise I saw Albuquerque's very own and much beloved "TIM" working there. That lifted my spirits even more. For those of you who don't know this fine young man - he had his own restaurant for several years called Tim's Place with a loyal customer base. He also has an extra Chromosome (Down Syndrome) which makes him more Special to us. (I posted his pic on here so I hope you can find it.). Kudos to The Range. But I ordered a "special" Enchilada plate with 1 Spinach and 1 Chicken Enchilada combo just to try the recommended Spinach Enchilada. My server Kelly said it was her favorite so I tried it. It was yummy and I'm glad I had a Chicken enchilada to balance it off. It also came with Black beans and rice. My service from Kelly was great and Tim also came around to check on everyone. I just had to get a pic of these two so if you wondered what happened to our local celebrity and favorite guy - he's here!! A great day altogether indeed. read more

Had an amazing new Mexican style breakfast with home made mocha late. They had so many more options all looking delicious. There homemade pastries and pies were so tempting. My brother was given the wrong item but not even a moment after giving it to them they relieved to. Asking if it was okay or if he wanted something else. No wonder it's busy it is a great place with plenty of bar space. My brother who is a local said sometimes there a long wait but it's always worth it. read more

I'm only able to speak to the experience receiving their food via DoorDash. I'm happy to say the food was fresh, well-cooked, and flavorful without the extra or heavy seasoning or salt many places use. The food was well packaged, obviously sanitary for the current situation without seeming ominous... they didn't only go above and beyond in respect to the product and preparation, but way above in its presentation and personalization. Not worth the hype. You're paying for the name. We ordered the country fried steak, it was soaking in grease. Also ordered the biscuit and gravy, it needed salt. Gravy was watery. The range fries were not cooked all the way. Definitely not working paying $16 for the county fried steak and $13 for the biscuits and gravy. read more

The waiter was rude, rude, rude and forgot over half my order. I had eaten at a different The Range location during a different visit, and usually love the food, but the service was so bad that I left the café hungry, disappointed and disrespected. After a long wait for the staff to take the order, I ordered an entrée, the chili strips noting to our waiter that the table would share it but it would go on my check, and a mojito. Over 45 minutes later, he slams down the entrée and when I asked about the drink and strips I was told that the café was too noisy and stalks off. But I can't entirely place the blame on the server, but also on the manager who saw that his lone waiter was overwhelmed and but did nothing to pitch in or help. The manager was chatting away with someone at the front while the waiter struggled to deal with our large group. Plus the manager just ignored the kitchen who was also overwhelmed. The visit took around 3 hours for dinner. Dessert wasn't an option because the main meal had taken so long they wanted to close. As to the food, serving rice that is undercooked was sad. How undercooked - it was hard enough that it got in-between your teeth and could not be chewed. Having been a waitress, I didn't have the heart to dock his normal tip. This guy was not having a good day, and his manager didn't do anything to help the customers who were impacted. BTW, the group had a reservation, so they knew that we were coming and should have planned accordingly. We called ahead to remind them that day, and they still didn't plan well. read more

A very artsy interior and service has always been great throughout the pandemic. I've had thier meatloaf and burrito. My wife, a vegetarian,has had creme brulee, Chile relleno, and veg blue corn enchiladas. She really likes everything she's gotten. She love the brulee. I liked the burrito and the meatloaf is ok. This was our first time at this location and not sure if we will come back. We have loved the other locations and thought we would try this one. Everything we got was cold. Attention Tourists: If you don't like chili, can't stand the heat and want to be filled to the gills, this place is for you. I've had more spice in a bottle of ketchup than on these Blue Corn enchiladas with red sauce. These were quite heavy with white cheddar cheese and 3 tortillas. Lots of red sauce, but I hesitate to call it chili--non-existent spice. And no onions? Sad representation of Mexican/New Mexican food. I've had other offerings which were decent, like chicken fried steak and breakfast food, but this was the first time for Mex/N.Mex fare. I was debating whether to give The Range Cafe a 4 or 5 star. When it came down to it, I had to ask myself, what are the things I don't like about this place? The answer is, I can't think of anything. I've been here about half a dozen times and each time was really, really good. The service is always friendly and they get to your table pretty quickly. I haven't tried the bar area yet, but I'm assuming it's stellar too because this place is always packed. Now let's get to the food. This place serves up some of the delicious food in ABQ and beyond! They're known for their Huevos Rancheros and rightfully so, it's a miraculous plate. What I have found that is also really good here is their sandwiches! Their rueben is something special, and you need to try it. All-in-all, The Range is a place that will be around for a long, long time because they give the locals what they want and they're cooking up some damn good food! read more

I wanna make my home at the Range Cafe! Seriously cool local joint with strange wonderful decor to enjoy. We arrived fairly early on a Saturday and had a short 15 minute wait. When seated we walked past a bakery case that was drool worthy. The menu is wild, lots of options that are familiar with a twist. We had the blue corn pancakes as well as the a New Mexican version of Eggs Benedict. Both dishes were delicious, a little strange, a little familiar, and huge portions. We couldn't finish either one! The blue corn pancakes were really the star of the show. I've never had anything like them, and can't wait to go back. Service was friendly, coffee is topped off constantly! You'll never have an empty cup in front of you here. I love that :) I want to go back to the range as soon as I can! I was too full to enjoy anything out of the bakery case and look forward to trying something on my next visit. read more

I finally decided to try it this weekend and it was the best decision I made! While it did take a while to get seated (40mins), we finally got a table and got a very good server. He was very polite, knew information on all the dishes, and was very attentive to our needs. Our food arrived 15ish mins. after ordering so it didn't take to long. Everything was really good, it was perfect comfort food. The plates and portions are big enough that you could share if you wanted. Disappointing at best for breakfast this morning. My wife raved about the lunches she had at the Bernalillo and Menaul locations so we gave it a try. The wife had the best of the dishes with the Huevos Rancheros, but we have had better. My son and I both chose the biscuits and gravy. The writeup sounded wonderful in the menu, but it tasted like eating a flour paste. My son ended up dining on most of the Huevos rancheros, while my wife and I ate some of the b&g and a side of scrambled egg. The waiter didn't bother asking if we enjoyed the meal. Either he already knew it was inedible, guessed by the amount left on the plates, or by the look on our faces. Bottom line, we won't be back for breakfast. Weck's still wins that title in our book. read more

I had two brunches here during my time in New Mexico and am thankful that it would take me 17 hours to drive there from where I currently am. If I had easy access to this place, I would come all the time and become quite hefty. The Range Cafe is great for hearty, full breakfasts. They aren't big on the light options, but it is possible to get yogurt, granola, and fruit. I did that during my first visit and then I wised up and ordered the Stuffed Range Toast on my second visit (see the photo). This is what the menu says about the Stuffed Range Toast: "Two thick slices of our cinnamon raisin bread dredged with rich egg batter, grilled and stuffed with sliced strawberries and bananas, topped with our homemade apple / peach butter, whipped cream and syrup" Need I say more? read more

Ordered online, paid in advance, waited 20 mins before going to pick up the order. Arrived and one of the girls at the counter told me that they were working on the order now so I sat and waited in the lobby. And waited........and waited. 30 minutes passed and I got up to inquire about my order and no one even acknowledged me. I then went out to my truck and called them and asked to speak with a manager. When she got on the phone she informed me that my order was never made and she offered to have the cooks "911" the order and have it out in 5 minutes. This seemed to me like I was now going to recieve a rushed job preparing the food so I declined her offer instead requesting a full refund. read more

The Range Cafe is truly a gem of Albuquerque. While the baked goods - in particular the sticky bun, chocolate cake, and rotating creative pies and cheesecakes - are some of the best I have had in my life (and I have had many baked goods), the banana pudding IS the best I've ever had in my life, and you can get many of the truly excellent New Mexican craft beers here (try the La Cumbre Malpais Stout - it will blow your socks off in the most mellow way a sock can be blown off), I want to conclude this ridiculously long sentence by mentioning that the community and vibe fostered by Range is warm, welcoming, and relaxed: truly evocative of Albuquerque itself. Here is an example: my boyfriend and I walked into Range a few minutes after it had closed, jonesing for some of that banana pudding I mentioned. Everything was shut down - lights were even going out - but the manager saw us walk in. Not only did she greet us with a smile, but when she heard me plaintively beg for her to sell us a pint of the pudding, she said, "the registers are down so we can't sell it to you... but here, go ahead and take one.' We will always be back, and hope to see you there too. : ) read more

I always love their food. But this rating is about their service. While had food to go there was miscommunication and one order was not prepared. No big deal, it happens. I requested missing order but manager was gracious enough to prepared the order on house. It wasn't restaurant's fault, just that I might misunderstood something, but still they went out of their way for me. They are definitely on my favorite local restaurant. read more
