This was always my favorite Raw bar to get a huge lobster roll. I would take pictures, and bring all my guests here. First visit today this year....very disappointed!. Lobster roll is now up to 30$ and it has shrunk! People come all over the world for this lobster roll. You could watch them put the big scoops in. Now it's a wrapped portion. So so sad! Claws were so dry and it sadly is the last lobster roll for me and my guests. I believe that the sales will dwindle and it will be a favorite of the Past. Such a shame, I used to love this place for the lobster rolls/lobster salad. Calling it a salad is a stretch now. What they call a salad has become just boiled lobster chunks plopped on top of dry arugula. No dressing, no flavor, not chopped up at all. It was awful. Despite asking for some mayo, it was still tasteless and I had to go back to my room to add my own dressing. For $32 you would think you might get something special. No more visits to the Raw Bar! I went there with 12 people for dinner on 8/5 and it was THE WORST dinner I have ever had. Among other things, we ordered four lobsters. My wife's lobster came to the table missing part of its claw. It clearly had an injury that had partially healed, but the nub on the end, which was black looked like rotting meat. Kind of like when you get gangrene. Much of the remaining claw was black and not appetizing at all. We sent it back and it was sent back to us with the disclaimer that there was nothing wrong with the lobster. Well I can count a few things that were wrong; (1) it was MISSING part of its claw, and (2) there was clearly rotting flesh at the end of remaining nub. We sent it back again and once again it was returned to us with the message that they would not serve us anymore food and that the lobster we had to pay for this lobster. I met the manager at the side door and he explained to me that; (1) we were only there for cheap lobsters and (2) he could serve that because it was "cheap lobster night." We got into a heated argument and he told me to "get the F out of his restaurant." I told him that I would not pay for the lobster. What's funny about the accusation that we were only there for there "cheap lobster." Out of 12 of us, only 4 ordered the lobster special. I also guess that it's ok to serve diseased and/or dying lobsters because they are on special. Aside from the lobster incident, it's just a gross place. The table was sticky and they literally are cooking behind the bar. There is no room for a proper kitchen. You can literally see a dank employee restroom from the bar area and it looks like a scene from Saw. Yes the lobster roll was big, but it was also vert expensive at nearly $40. I can go somewhere else and get two $20 lobster rolls and still get a better serving. read more

Never felt as unwelcome as during my lunch at this place yesterday. This restaurant (?), seafood shack more precisely, was highly recommended by my cousin, a local resident, as a local seafood favorite. However, upon arrival and while waiting for the table we had to deal with the owner Bob, who was extremely rude, sat other groups that arrived after us at the table before he sat us and behaved in a manner which made us feel very unwelcome. Later, when I complained to my cousin that Bob's behavior is very odd, she went to confront him. He plainly told her that he doesn't like "those" people from New York!!!!referring to us. Since there was no indication in our appearance that we are from New York (actually our group was from Connecticut, NJ and New York) my conclusion is that by meaning "those" people he referred to my visible Star of David and Jewish features of some of my companions. Notwithstanding the quality of food, racist behavior should not be encouraged or supported. I hope Bob's place will be boycotted. read more

We are frequent visitors to the raw bar in Hyannis and absolutely love it. A local resident recommended the raw bar in Mashpee so we decided to try it out. We couldn't be more disappointed from our visit there. The seating area was dirty, the staff was rude. When we requested water for the table we were told it is self serve and we had to go behind a fence to get it. We ordered starters and they came out with the meal at which time we were told that's the way they do it. When our food came we then noticed a hair in one of the lobster rolls which they refused to credit for the meal. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

THIS PLACE IS A JOKE! When looking at ratings - check the trend versus the score. The Raw Bar is trending DOWN.....so while looking at the reviews, noticed most negatives are recent = the review on the lobster roll from 2007 isn't relevant any more. Raw Bar has run its course - the place is nasty and tired. At some point you have to spend money to make money (fix patio, broken fences etc.) - this bar works off the idea that you are on vacation and are willing to over pay for terrible food and terrible service. The lobster roll is OVERRATED - jammed into a hot dog roll and served on a paper tray - fries are extra as are refills. Last night even saw the "manager" refuse to take a meal back when an older lady politely offered at the next table that "it didn't taste right!". He couldn't have been a bigger jerk, "we have been cooking lobster like this for 25 years" get over yourself it was a $13.95 special - ZERO customer service - they work on the model, we are the Raw Bar, the only gig in town. Well you are not. I, for one, am sick of places like this - never go back. This is not the picture of the Cape I want, way too many better places to spend your hard earned money. Unfortunately, sometimes success breeds all the wrong attributes for the fortuitous ownership. I'd define it by using the terms of success having gone to one's head or as success has made someone way way too big for their britches. We just spent 4 days in Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. One of our pre-trip missions included re-visiting The Raw Bar as we had 3 great meals there last year. We also intended on visiting other establishments that have a reputation for serving the best indigenous to New England seafood. Specifically, we were after lobster, lobster rolls, fried belly clams and chowder. Our first visit was to Sesuit Harbor Cafe in Dennis. We also visited the Quarterdeck in Falmouth as well as Arnold's Clam Shack in Eastham. In between Quarterdeck and Arnold's, we visited The Raw Bar for the last time. Certainly, you now know,where this review is headed, but please understand clearly that I'm as objective as anyone you know and therefore, I call "em as I see em." I was at the bar when I witnessed Bob, the owner as well as one of the waitstaff totally dressing down a woman who went in there to get take-out lobster rolls, which The Raw Bar is acclaimed for. I have never ever witnessed such distasteful and repugnant behavior by a proprietor of any establishment toward a paying customer. It made me cringe to hear Bob literally yell at this woman. This uncalled for display of poor demeanor was so off base that I immediately decided to leave the bar and promise that not only will I never return there but I will make sure to tell anyone I know as well as anyone I can touch via a public review that The Raw Bar should be off limits to them. Why should someone pay their hard earned money to an establishment where the ownership and help show no regard for their clientele? I bring the other three establishments up so as to eliminate any concern anyone should have of not being able to find a great lobster roll or other New England seafood. Sesuit Harbor Cafe had absolutely delicious lobster rolls and fried belly clams. The Quarterdeck served an extremely tasty lobster sandwich on the best Portuguese bread. Arnold's had hot or cold regular or jumbo lobster rolls, the best fried belly clam and fried scallops I've ever tasted, succulent steamers, the best stuffed Quahog on Cape Cod and fresh and delicious raw clams and oysters. I bring all these other places up for two reasons. They all blew away The Raw Bar's lobster roll as the lobster meat was incredibly fresh tasting vs what comes across as lobster meat that may have at one time been frozen. They are also presented with a much more culinary attention having been paid to the bread and/or lobster salad. And, the real treat is that along with the superior lobster roll and other fried seafood selections at these other establishments, these alternates come with proprietors that show respect and appreciation to their clientele even though they are extremely crowded at lunch and dinner. I could not be happier that I've found other worlds away better options to The Raw Bar and it's disrespectful and unappreciative ownership and staff because otherwise I'd go without some of my favorite foods vs ever patronizing them again. read more

I was really excited to come here, having read the reviews and getting a recommendation. So I went, ate the lobster roll and clam chowder, and was underwhelmed. As some other reviewers have noted - it is hard to find. It's in this weird shopping plaza (with a stage for kid-friendly performers). Once we found it, we were told to seat ourselves. There weren't any free seats, so someone finally told us that people share tables. Fine with me, but that would've been nice to know before I wandered around like an idiot, saying "there's nowhere to sit." The lobster roll is big and has tons of meat. It was tasty, but another reviewer said it is kind of plain, and I'd have to agree. The clam chowder was good, though didn't seem to have a lot of actual clam. Oh, and would you like water? Go get it yourself. It's a brilliant business plan - charge $25 for a lobster roll, hire unenthusiastic wait staff, and make your patrons seat themselves - very cost effective, I'm sure. Contrary to popular belief, this may be one of the worst places to go on Cape Cod. Yes, the lobster rolls are huge - they should be for $25. For $25 more, you can get a bucket of sandy steamers...mmm gritty! The lobster rolls didn't taste great and there were shells throughout. If you've been there before, you must know about the strict "no cell phone" policy. People have been kicked out for using their cell phones - even for texting. I know it's annoying to have to listen to other people yack on their phones, but I don't really find texting so offensive that the waitress has to come out and tell you to put your phone away. Besides that - our waitress was rude. I live on the cape and I do not recommend this place to any self-respecting seafood lover. read more

Why weren't you here yelp 10 years ago. I would have been the first to go on and tell about the awful, horrible, hideous experience we had here. The experience was so bad, I still talk about it and remember to like yesterday. Drove down to the Raw Bar with a friend and our two toddlers. Both of us at the time were new stay at home moms, it was Summer and we were so excited to take a road trip with our kids and have a fun day of food and adventure. We had no idea what a nightmare this was going to be. We got there, after a long drive and my friend stayed outside with the kids while I went in and ordered. It took forever to make eye contact with a staff member behind the counter/bar. When they finally acknowledged me, I asked for two lobster rolls. No "hi" no nothing accept "yes". I placed my order, and she turned around, went to a fridge and pulled out two ready made lobster rolls. Wrapped in foil and small, like they had been rolled a while ago and had shrunken down, which was the case. I paid "rude girl" and even tipped (former long time restaurant employee...always tip). No "thank you"....nada! Went outside and sat on blanket, took lobster rolls out of the bag and the bag was filled with mayo that was dripping off the wrapped sandwiches. They were drenched and almost water logged. WHAT? What??? $50 bucks for this. I had thought we were going to get two heaping rolls, freshly made, like the pics. I picked up the bag, said 'be right back" and went back in. I waited for the girl who first served me and said "excuse me, blah blah blah.....can we get new rolls. These are dripping and don't seem freshly made". I did this over to the side as well, so no one else had to hear. The poor rude girl couldn't seem to figure out what to do so she said "um, I don't know what to tell you, you'll have to talk to the manager" I said "ok...that's fine". Over comes the manager (who recognized from the Phantom Gourmet, where I first got it in my head to visit the place to begin with). She said "what's wrong" I told her and without saying a word, she went to the cash register, banged it opened and took the money and literally threw the money back at me and said...ready???? "GET OUT" I said "excuse me" What did you just say to me" and she said 'Get out of here. You are not welcome back". Nervous customers at the counter actually started laughing with her, like they were afraid if they didn't, she'd throw them out too. I was so flustered and flabbergasted that I picked up my money and like an idiot, walked out. I was just shocked at how over the top nasty she was that I don't think I had time to react! So there you have it. I have told this story over and over pre Yelp and now it's out there for others. Maybe the service has changed and things are different. Hope so. But if not, you can get great lobster rolls, seafood and service at hundreds of other places on the cape and off! Phew..that felt good! read more

Fantastic Lobster Roll, Casual Coastal Atmosphere. Good Vibes.

The lobster rolls here are usually as good as everyone is raving about. HUGE - chunky, etc. However, this year (July 2011), the rolls themselves were smaller and thus not as much lobster. Plus the lobster wasn't as chunky. It was more of a fine lobster salad. I'm hoping this was due to how busy they have been and thus we got the bottom of the bucket. Ok so here is the deal on this place. 1.)BEST lobster roll around, hands down!!! Enough to share at $25 2.) Not a place for children. This place is a party.This place is an "experience". Not fine dining, not family friendly, constant amounts of F-bombs and levels of undress may be observed. However... 3.)They believe in family, so they opened a "family friendly" version called Bobs Seafood Cafe and is right across the quhog path. A better option for kids or for takeout and they still have the famos lobster rolls. 4.) The service. Now being in the "industry" I am quite perticular, but let it be said, the level of service is part of the "experience". Think of yourself as a guest at a Cookout/keg party at a neighbors house. If they offered you a margarita and it didnt have a salted rim, would you ask to remake it?? No you would take it and go on enjoying "the party". Listen all of the food is served on paper and plastic and served to you on family seating style picnic tables. Just relax and dont ask for, lemon in your water, salted rim, the wine list (although they do have a decent selection) or where to sit. There are no frills here!!! The staff is friendly and obvious professionals, but also VERY, VERY busy hosting this shindig. Get your act together when you order- order off the menu and dont get creative. If you are a fast drinker then order two drinks at a time. Again, relax and enjoy the EXPERIENCE!!! 5.) Other things that are cool. Mudslides, Rum Punch, $2 cherry bombs and the obvious RAW BAR of chilled shellfish!!! So, is this a not to be missed place, yes. Is it for date night or family dinner? No. Brings your flip flops and your friends and enjoy. Also to be noted, there is also a sister restauront in Hyannis- not such a social party, different atmosphere being on the harbor, but same idea:same owner. There is a Falmouth Raw bar with is no affiliation, just a knock off, not sure how that works, but dont be fooled. The REAL Raw Bar is in Mashpee. In a vacation area called New Seabury in a shopping plaza called Poppinesset. Maybe confusing to get to. Put in Shore Drive Mashpee Ma. ps Grab a few extra bucks and buy yourself a t-shirt. It is a genuine joke how good the lobster rolls are at The Raw Bar. They are HUGE, and are essentially just lobster and a small amount of mayo. No fillers, you just get an enormous amount of fresh lobster. Last summer they were $23 each, which may seem expensive, but you get your money's worth here, it's a solid value. The Raw Bar can be difficult to find, so you're probably best off going with someone who has been there before (or get really thorough directions). The scene is fun and can be a bit on the rowdier side than much of the area, plenty of beers and wines available as well as specialty cocktails and such. Bob the owner is always around and is friendly and insistent about quality lobster rolls. This place is tough to beat and must be tried at least once... read more

Very disappointed... Mostly in the location. The description on Yelp says that they are right on the ocean. The map on Yelp makes it look like it's on the beach. This place is not... It is near the ocean (maybe . 1 mile) but it is a tiny bar with a tiny fenced area with picnic tables. The only view is the fence and the garbage can. It's in a weird little shopping area. I have been coming to the Raw bar for over 15 years and it never disappoints. The best lobster roll on Cape Cod. They have live music Thursday-Sunday during the summer. Try their rum punch, you will not regret it. I wish they were open years around. Their clam chowder is great. Great atmosphere read more

The Raw Bar is pretty good, the biggest downfall for me is the small size of it. The restaurant is very small inside so it's harder to get service, ie harder to get the attention of a waitress or bartender. It's a popular place in Mashpee in the summer especially so it becomes really hot inside from the amount of customers. Would be great if they could expand somehow as getting other people's sweat on me isn't something I'd like to happen again while eating. Pricing is a little high like mentioned in other reviews but portions are large. Another request would be to offer a few more non seafood options for individuals who are eating with seafood lovers but are allergic to seafood. I do recommend it you check it out for the lobster roll experience! Also it's located in the Popponesset Market so just find some parking and walk past the mini golf to find it! read more

Went a few weeks ago - had the lobster rolls and steamers. OMG - just awesome! Very expensive - but it's the Cape. Can't wait to return.

I visited the venue over the weekend and in my opinion the 3 star rating is pretty much all it deserves. The cellphone complaint might not be valid anymore as it wasn't a problem for me over the weekend. That said when the place is rowdy it's near impossible to talk on your phone. I can understand the attempt to implement the policy because the inside is pretty small so you are close... Now.. the important stuff... THE FOOD... Firstly, on sunday they have an all day dinner special. The weekend was 1 lobster for $15 - not a bad deal, but I didn't try that. I went for the famous lobster roll. In my opinion it appears that people confuse taste with size. Yes the roll is HUGE ( mine was shared between 2 ppl ), but I must admit I have had tastier. I was fortunate not to experience any shells in my serving as noted by some reviewers. That said, I keep coming back to taste... it was OK, and worth a try but definitely NOT the best tasting ever, not even close!!! I also had the barnstable oysters. It was only the variety available, I'm not too sure if this was a one off or they don't carry more. I would give these a skip if you are true oyster lover. There isn't anything wrong with the freshness but it wasn't the best flavour in my opinion. This is no reflection the venue but rather comment on the oyster variety. Lastly, my exchanges with the wait staff was extremely pleasant. They were attentive and polite ( although my initial request for glass of water was forgotten, but the beer arrived promptly ). I come every year to this establishment. Sadly, today's visit is my last. I purchased the lobster roll for $30, it was smaller than previous years and lacked in flavor. Tasted like it had been frozen. Definitely not worth the hour and a half trip and the money. Looking for the next best lobster roll for next year. Find this place overrated, the lobster roll is MASSIVE but I feel like a lobster roll should be about quality not quantity. Nothing special about the bread, no lettuce, not served with a side. What bugs me the most about this place is that they straight up just microwave your food in front of you... like do you think I want a mushy microwaved quahog? It's so bizarre & strange to me to microwave seafood? I grew up here and have never had a quahog so mushy and bland. Also mudslides are pretty boring in comparison to those at chart room or baxters. They are too Icey. And female bartenders were super rude & treated everyone they didn't recognize like an idiot, not patient friendly or a good server. Dressed really sloppy too. Not impressed at all with this spot. Wouldn't recommend it unless you just want a whole ton of lobster meat. read more

Stayed in mashpee for the weekend. Was lookin for a good lobster roll, everyone recommended "The Raw Bar." We had it the first night, it was good but server was not happy to be there and atmosphere sucked. Stopped in here before an event at the Popponesset for a quick bite. The menu spans from a few appetizer options like wings or an $8 hot dog to a $60 clam/lobster steamer bag for two. To stay on the more casual price side, I ordered a cup of gazpacho soup and Jamaican jerk wings. I'm almost 100% sure that the "soup" I ordered was Tostitos salsa poured into a cup. The wings were cooked through (the plus side) yet the skin was wet and soft as if the wings hadn't been fried or baked. The rub was incredibly spicy and not cooked into the wings, rather the soggy chicken wings just were rolled around in enough rub for 7 orders of this stuff. I feel harsh for saying this but there really isn't any other way I would describe the food: it was inedible. I told my waitress that I couldn't eat the food and wouldn't be paying for it. She didn't ask what was wrong or act surprised at all. I wonder if they know it's pretty terrible? Kind of confused how this place has customers in it.... read more

I went here for dinner with my family. We were planning to sit outside since the patio had a water view but it was really windy that day. We ended up sitting inside where the bar was. The boiled lobster was super meaty and the Monster lobster roll was literally a monster. There was so much lobsters meat in the sandwich. It was definitely worth it but I think this would be good for two people because I definitely wouldn't be able to finish it on my own. I ordered the burger and clam chowder. Their burger was nothing special. I wished it came with some vegetable such as lettuce and tomato. Their clam chowder was a bit too salty so I only took a few sip. Don't really get the attraction to The Raw Bar. Small bar and outside picnic table seating. The bar has no A/C so hotter than heck during day or humid evening. The lobster rolls are HUGE, but they are also $30, so they should be. Thirty dollars is a price of a restaurant entree so it should be a decent meal. Its just a lobster roll, no fries or any sides. Not even a piece of lemon. It's served in small paper try so the heaping lobster just spills onto dirty bar or picnic table. No placemats, had to create one with a napkin. I think if you live in the development its probably an OK place to meet up with neighbors and grab a beer. The Kettle Ho in Cotuit has same huge lobster roll with fries and slaw included, attentive bartenders and wait staff. If your driving to get The Raw Bar keep going to Kettle Ho. The food at this place is really awesome. You got to try the lobster roll but they also have some nice appetizers (stuffed quahogs, clam chowder, etc.). The lobster roll was huge and so good. The meat is great, you can definitely split it with 2 people. The staff was very friendly which is very surprising given the environment (full of richhhhh people), they even advised us to only order one roll for two. The atmosphere is very laid back, you even get to share tables with strangers (the palce is so small, there is no other choice). The only drawback is the location, why don't they say that they are located INSIDE the market place? My GPS was acting crazy and we were about to give up... Don't go here! False advertising! We went here with the expectation seen in the photos that it was a beautiful place on the water! It is neither of those! Instead we had to walk through shops to find this place squeezed in the back in a seedy bar with very small claustrophobic seating. There is NO VIEW of the water and WORSE, this place was smack dab in the middle of screaming children and teenager land. It was like we were lost in the twilight zone! We left immediately! Don't go for the ambience, the great service or the cleanliness.... You go why I went, to try the #1 voted lobster roll. For $26.75, it's definitely delicious...and is clearly at least 2 lbs of lobster piled into a non-toasted/non-buttered roll (I always prefer a toasted buttered roll)...so a great value that you need to start eating with a fork to be able to pick it up. But be prepared to get your own water out of the water cooler, to receive slightly rotten limes and lemons in your drinks, to be seated at overly sticky and rotted tables in a fenced in outdoor area (no indoor seating other than the bar if raining), and to receive less than enjoyable service from servers that seem rather annoyed to still be working this late in the season. Lesson learned? Call in take out and order your lobster rolls TO GO. read more
