We needed a breakfast/lunch place along our travels down route 95-495. We saw this listed and it turned out to be great smallish cute cafe atmosphere. It was easy to find . The service was great, friendly and efficient. The food was excellent and was just what we wanted/ needed for our journey. We had the chicken rice soup and egg salad and Buffalo chicken sandwiches. Went here for breakfast one Sunday morning. My daughter was participating in a nearby event and we decided to go out for brunch. We expected it to be busy since it was around 10:45, but it only took 5-10 minutes for a booth to open up. There was a good selection to choose from. I had the Blueberry Muffin French Toast with a side of bacon, we also had the lemon blueberry pancakes and an omelet. Everything was delicious and reasonably portioned. The bacon was cooked perfectly crispy without being overdone. The waitress was one of maybe 2 for all of the booths yet she came around regularly, ensured our coffee was topped off and that we were happy with our food. One thing to know is that it's small and a little tight. If you have issues with feeling crowded it may not be the best choice during peak hours. I'm not crazy about things like elevators, etc. but once we got into a booth there was plenty of space. However, there was a section where tables for 2 were placed in the aisle between the booths. I wouldn't have wanted to sit at those tables but it seemed like they were reserving those as a last resort as no one was encouraged to sit there versus the tables they were bussing. read more

Went here for breakfast yesterday & have to say that it is better than ever! I've been going here for about 35 years & have seen it go through a few different owners. It took a hit during the lockdown but it's back better than ever. DD & I shared the ghost pepper omelette & blueberry pancakes with real maple syrup and they hit it out of the park!! Very Spicy! The place is cute & freshened up since the last time we were there. Service was friendly, professional & awesome. I'm happy to say Shawsheen Luncheonette has reopened and is mostly unchanged, despite being under new ownership. For those who don't already know, Shawsheen has a great breakfast menu with something for everyone from pancakes, waffles and French toast to 17 types of omelets, Eggs Benedict and eggs fiesta. There's even an "Eat Green Eat Clean section with some very delicious and healthy dishes like the green goddess omelet (this is in addition to the 16 above!) The service is very friendly and attentive - not like other fast paced breakfast places - here you never wait for coffee or a check. Can't say enough about how great the people are here. Easy parking on the street in front or in the lot in back. The buzz among everyone eating there (many long time regulars) is that we're all very happy it's back! read more

The only good thing about Shawsheen was the time it took to receive or food after ordering. The staff seem put out by the fact that they had to wait on customers. Coffee refills were not offered, water seemed like a luxury, and the staff seemed surprised to be asked for such service. We wait for service for quite a while before having to flag down our server. Now on the the food: the toast looked like it was left over from another order, cold and pretty much not toasted and falling apart. The bacon was cooked yesterday, cold and hard. The egg was the only thing cooked well. Huge decline from prior experience. Won't be returning. read more

The piece of ham on the sandwich was hearty. The Hollandaise Sauce was creamy. I was very satisfied with my choice. My son got a pancake with a side of home fries. The pancake was the size of a dinner plate & the home fries were nice and crispy. He ate it all. Coffee was good and my cup was never empty. We did not feel rushed at all even though people were waiting to be seated. Small parking lot but ample street parking. The staff here is beyond nice. The service was wonderful but the prices are a little high and the food is good but not for the price. I got pancakes with a side of bacon and paid 18 for the meal. My partner got an omelette and paid 20 for that. Overall it was roughly 40 dollars for two meals on top of that I found a hair in my pancakes. For a 40 dollar meal I was not happy. read more

We were in the area for my wife's work and came away super impressed after our first breakfast experience on a very busy weekend. It was easy to find parking right out front and I believe there is a lot behind the building, as well. We were seated after only about a three minute wait and offered the few seats at the counter but decided to hold off for a table. Get there early though, it does seem to be a hopping place. I was not expecting what is usually a greasy spoon kind of setup with the counter service, to have offerings that on the surface are super healthy (is cheese ever all that healthy?) but they pulled them all off and with flying colors. I had Eggs in The Grass and again, a breakfast item here, maybe even two you wouldn't expect to eat before 9 AM....microgreens and hummus. My wife had the pear toast with goat cheese and she walked away full and happy. The Johnny Cakes were very tempting and I'll likely get those in a future visit since they seem to be getting rarer as a breakfast item. We were not impressed by their hash browns, blackened in parts and overcooked, we left much of it behind. Stick to the superfoods breakfast options, I think they excel at that a lot more. It's a bit tiny and you have to move out of the way if someone is coming the other way. Also, a very minor complaint is that the men's toilet is up against the wall and you basically have to turn on it to get comfortable. :) Other than that, the service was impeccable and they filled your coffee cup even if you had only drunk it down a quarter of the way to keep it piping hot. The people were awesome, the food was awesome, what more can you ask for? read more

They do have some amazing healthy options like the breakfast salad. I was hoping for the spicy pork hash others had mentioned, but they didn't have it that day. They are able to add poblanos to the chicken hash. I had 2 eggs over hard, hash browns and wheat toast. I was surprised that the chicken hash was just hash browns, chicken pieces and poblanos. Usually there are onions at least. It was good chicken, wonderfully crunchy hash browns and the eggs were done perfectly, so not much to complain about. Came here on Thursday morning around 830am with a group of five, and was seated without a wait. It's been a while since I've been to small town diner in Massachusetts, and I was pleasantly surprised. It's extremely cozy, with the perfect amount of not-too-serious, and not-over-the-top-fake-friendliness that is pretty much the standard in New England. In other words, this place is the real deal. I won't comment on the specifics of the food we ordered because it's a diner folks. How different can bacon and eggs, or bananas on pancakes get at a diner? But that's the perfection of the place. It's simply real. It's old school comfort, and comes with bottomless coffee. Glad to see that after living in Los Angeles for a year and dealing with wanna-be trends, and duck-lip selfies, that there are still places like Shawsheen that have kept the faith in keeping our good old American traditions just the way they are: real. read more

Met my "now back in the office" pal Elsie at the Shawsheen on day recently for breakfast, as it's close to her office. Parking around back or on street. Right downtown, this place has been around forever, until recently, when it was closed & now has happily re-opened under new ownership. Cute inside, booths & tables & big counter to eat at, sunny with lots of windows. PRO- The staff couldn't have been nicer! Very kind, lots of smiles, quick to refill your coffee. They were terrific. The coffee was EXCELLENT. I drink it black so I notice when it is not good. Elsie commented on it being good as well. Large, varied menu with lots of choices. I got my usual "egg sandwich" on an english with HAM. Inspired Elsie to get the same. Sandwich was fine, deli ham & egg/cheese, nothing to write home about though. CON- The Hashbrowns. A. You have to order them separately. None came with my egg sandwich. B. They were AWFUL. Burnt & totally unseasoned, no onions, nothing. It's too bad, I hugely judge a place by it's potatoes. You guys need to change these babies up. SO- The staff was amazing, the sandwich was pretty good, the coffee was terrific, but the home fries need serious work. I would not make this a destination but would go if the need presented itself. The food is good but not as good as it used to be and not as good as the price would dictate. The Ruben was on small sandwich bread and was about 50% sauerkraut, 50% meat. The fries were just regular old fries. The breakfast was adequate. The soda was small and overpriced as they all seem to be these days. A $31 lunch not including the tip which was less due to the waitress not really giving much attention to us (or even being somewhat friendly), we needed a refill as well as just a stop by after we got our food, neither happened.
