I went here for lunch. Service was good. They have a lot of interesting choices to choose from. I definitely want to return to try more. There is a great beer list and we did a flight for $8. We tried the pizza and it comes out thin, loaded with toppings. The queso and the wings are tasty. Great place in downtown Conroe. Large portions and reasonable prices. Lots of draft beers if you like beer. And, they rotate some of them frequently. Stays open late for Conroe which rolls up its streets around 7:30. Live music between 2 - 3 nights a week. Cozy but not much room for large crowd and it can fill up quickly. Food is great but they close whenever they want. I walked in and asked when the kitchen closed and was told 11:45. I came back at 11:35 and waited for the bartender (who never came to me)so I got up to order my to go pizza to go and she told me they already closed the kitchen. This has happened multiple times, they are very inconsistent with their kitchen hours and it makes it very irritating to want to go back because I don't if they will be open. read more

Mariah, our waitress, was absolutely fantastic! Some of the best service I've ever had anywhere. I'm honestly surprised she isn't working somewhere much nicer. I would definitely recommend requesting her if you go. The pizza we got was delicious, and they had a great selection of beers on tap. Now... The reason for only 3 stars... When we went, they had some musicians there to play. They definitely weren't anything special, but they weren't really bad either. The problem was how obnoxiously loud it was in there. Now, I'm an audio engineer. I've worked all over the country running sound for music festivals, Broadway shows, churches, and music venues. I like loud music! But not in a dinner and drinks environment. I will was so loud I literally could not hear the poor waitress asking, no yelling, about which beer I wanted next. It was awful. By the time we left at 9pm, the place was half as busy as when we got there; I'm pretty sure it was the music driving people out. So to wrap it up, if you want amazing service and great food, ask for Mariah and you won't be disappointed. We ate here on a Sunday and the place had a fabulous vibe, and wonderful gospel group. Music was fantastic and waitress amazing. The wedge salad was not a wedge but Romaine. That was disappointing. I ordered carnitas and they were not carnitas but sweet pulled pork. Waitress asked if black beans were fine with my carnitas and I said yes. I was charged 3 dollars for them. This was our first visit to the Red Brick Tavern and it happened to be on the evening of Valentine's day. We didn't have a reservation and they were still totally accommodating. Our meals were delicious and we were very pleased by their attention to detail. My meal was a beautifully cooked steak with delicious mashed potatoes and the best asparagus I've had in a restaurant in a very long time. I know focusing on asparagus when it's not the main dish isn't important to everyone, but it's a favorite of mine and rarely done well. When the side dishes are cared for as well as the main dishes it just improves the whole experience! My compliments to the chef! Everything was done very well and the wait staff was attentive too. We decided to come based on the reviews and our love for intimate, down-to-earth, friendly places. My fiancé and I took off early from work to drive from the Woodlands to obtain our marriage license and wanted to celebrate. We called ahead and were told that the happy hour was what was advertised on their website under food and drink (see screen shot). When we got there at 4:30 pm, we asked the bartender for the happy hour menu to see the appetizers and after thumbing through the register were told there is no happy hour on Fridays. After reading reviews about service, I was nervous, but service was friendly, quick and knowledgeable. My friend wasn't that excited over the wine list, but I don't think that is their focus. We started off with fried oysters that were so flavorful and very crispy. They were fried in bacon fat, so it should be flavorful! But I don't know how they got them so delicately crispy. Wasn't that crazy about sauce, but it was okay. We could have made a meal of that. We also got the Caesar Salad. That was one of the best Caesar salads I've ever had. Romaine that was so cold and so crisp. Dressing was addictive. And to put it over the top - capers! Sooo good! The croutons were strange fried little rock like things. But we shoved them aside. We hit a speed bump with Shepherds Pie. Really not that good. Imagine a can of beef stew with mashed potatoes glopped on and lots of cheese melted on top. I never had Shepherds Pie with cheese on top and it was not a winner. Server was so nice to let us get Roasted Chicken instead. The chickens skin was not crisp and not all that flavorful, but was fine. Two sauces. Didn't try barbecue sauce but the other sauce was kind of bland. I was hoping for a lemon butter kind of sauce to liven up the chicken. For desert had a skillet brownie with vanilla ice cream. Very good. I think there were nuts which was a nice touch. Chocolate spears were delicious. The brownie itself was obviously heated in microwave, which didn't help the texture, but how else do you heat it up? Overall a fine meal with some standouts. I used to absolutely love coming here. I haven't been here in about a year. My bf and I came in and I ordered the Santa fe pasta with shrimp. The shrimp still had the tails. Normally I don't mind this in food, but it's mixed in and covered in pasta. I don't like having to take the tails off, when they're covered in sauce. The menu should specify they still have tails. The dish itself was alright. The sauce tasted canned, with no seasoning and same with the first few shrimp I had. Definitely nowhere near worth $18. I'd expect this quality of food from a place like dennys.... One of my shrimp, a bigger one, was either bad or vastly undercooked. It was like biting into a rotten fruit gusher. It was disgusting enough to send me running to the bathroom to throw up. I set the food aside and waited for the server to come back while my bf finished his food. After about 15 minutes passed without seeing the server, I finally went to the bar and asked for the manager. I told him what happened, but in the middle of me talking, says he's going to check on (garret/Garreth?). No apology or anything like that. I mean he literally only says he was going to check on that guy and that was it. After a minute or so the server shows up and tells us that the manager is comping my meal. Still no apology, is there anything else I can do, nothing like that. I also ordered a dessert, as a yelp check in gets you a free one. I ordered it right before we got our food. It was never put in. When the server came back to tell us my food was getting comped, he then asked if we wanted to put in for desert. We ordered the brownie, which has a 15 min. Prep time. We had already been done with all of the food for at least 15 min. I ordered it early for a reason, he just never put it in the system I guess. I declined, we got the check and left. This place used to be amazing, but the service and quality of food have tanked big time. Edit: just to clarify, he comped my meal. We still paid for our drinks, and my bf's meal. We ventured down here for the live music and quaint atmosphere - both exceeded our expectations. Saturday night, dinner time & we were still sat almost immediately. Upon reviewing the updated drink menu (since the last time we were there) we were extremely let down. There was only ONE IPA beer on draft and on top of the low selection, it wasn't very cold. So, my boyfriend eventually just switched to a bottle and poured it into a glass. I enjoyed a couple glasses of wine - good selection. Now what I am about to state may not be necessarily a complaint...but more of a suggested courtesy: about halfway through my glass of wine a fly flew in & decided to have a swimming party in my drink. I got the waiter and asked him if I could have a new one (as you can clearly see the fly floating in it) I assumed he would comp that glass because I was barely halfway into it...nope got charged for it. I didn't say anything, as he seemed new and I didn't want to stress him out, but I would say that's a big NO NO in my book. We started with the oysters, pretty good, probably wouldn't get them again. They say pan fried so I expected a lightly battered oyster but it was thick - personal preference I guess. Prior to ordering our entrees we had been there about an hour so far....plenty of time for the waiter to tell me the kitchen was out of an item BEFORE I picked what I wanted....not after I attempted to order it. I tried to order the salmon. "Sorry we are out of that tonight." Okay no problem, but tell me when you become aware of that. Luckily I had a back up, Mahi Mahi, SCRUMPTIOUS! It had a spicy pineapple salsa on it that I could eat 24/7. My boyfriend got the Grilled Chicken Sandwich, he said it had great flavor but the bread was so incredible soggy that he had to eat it with a fork & knife - I think a simple change in bread would fix that issue. *sigh* read more

Heard lots of good things about Red Brick Tavern especially since its in my neck of the woods. With my friends' glowing recommendation and all the great reviews here, blogs, and TV review on the evening channel, figured this would be a safe bet. Got dealt a tough hand to play with tonight. Located in the historic part of downtown Conroe, it's in a rather cozy location that transports you back to a neighborhood bar in a sleepy rural town, except this place was packed even on a regular weeknight. Walked inside and waited quite awhile before we were seated as the place appears to be understaffed. It was difficult to discern who the servers were as there's no uniform or tags per se. Finally flagged down the busboy to get us seated. Talk about a bad start, but we were given an apology. Aside from that hiccup, service was good overall for the rest of the night. The decor is kinda trendy in a country kind of way. Live acts play here (Family Folk Revival played recently I think, but nothing tonight). Would be a fun place to check out a live act while drinking and snacking. They have a decent selection of beers, I opted for Conroe's favorite son, Southern Star (Bombshell Blonde). We order food and it comes out pretty quickly. First up, bacon-fried oysters. I love oysters and I love bacon so this should be a no-brainer. As awesome as it sounds, the dish was not executed as well as I had hoped. The oyster itself was ok. Could certainly taste the bacon grease. The breading wasn't all that. The flavors kept fighting with each other. I would've rather eaten raw oysters or even regular deep fried oysters than this. Wife opted for BBQ meatloaf. Presentation was excellent! You get a slab of meatloaf topped with a mountain of mashed potatoes and onion fries over it. The taste fell a bit flat though. Meatloaf is usually kind of dry and usually goes well with a tomato based sauce. They used BBQ sauce here instead which doesn't help moisten it up. Worse yet, the BBQ sauce wasn't all that (I preferred the meat loaf plain with the tasty mashed potatoes. My dish comes out last, their filet mignon pizza. This is topped with lots of fresh cheese, onions, bacon, and strips of filet mignon. The meat was tasty and sufficiently tender (although I was expecting it to be more tender). Its a bit on the heavy side but flavorful nevertheless. The crust was not as crispy as I had hoped since its a thin-crust type of pizza. Pizza is decent, but not necessarily spectacular. Overall it was an ok experience (2.9 stars). Food was ok. Very pricey food though and definitely not bang-for-your-buck. I might've enjoyed it a bit more had I been seated sooner instead of ignored, ordered different pulled pork anything, and if a live band was playing. read more

Found this little gem on yelp, The Red Brick Tavern came highly recommended, and the only place with live music on a Tuesday. This place doesn't disappoint, great food and drinks. Our waitress Kat was Awesome! She is friendly, fast, and attentive, she kicked ass working a bar full of guests. We were also treated to the sounds of Southern Disposition who put on a great show! The Red Brick Tavern is their home venue and they are here every Tuesday night playing a variety of Americana music that we all know and love.
