I've seen this place while out jogging and never thought to give it a shot, untill one morning I was to inebriated to cook breakfast for me and my gf so I looked this place up and got there breakfast. There is very little that I need from a coffee shop. And if all of those things are crossed off the list, I don't see how I can't give 5 stars. First and definitely foremost is good coffee. Red Cat has a good selection and baristas. I am no connoisseur, but I know a good cup of coffee when I get it. Second on the list is space. I have never had a problem with parking or finding a table here. Convenience is the name of that game... check! Wi-fi and friendly service are next on my agenda. These are some of the consistently friendliest coffee shop employees in town and their wifi has never let me down. Check and check. Red Cat is 5 stars all day in my book. Redcat is one of my go to locations to grab coffee with friends or even get some work done. The general atmosphere is really cozy and inviting. In terms of COVID-19, all of the employees were wearing masks and most of the seating has been spaced out by 6 feet. I think what could be improved is designating a space for people to order and wait to pick up/get their drink or food. As of now, it can get a bit crowded. This week, I decided to have lunch here and I ordered the veggie with hummus wrap with chips on the side to-go. This is a vegetarian option that this location offers and I really enjoyed it! The only thing I wish I could've changed with this wrap is the amount of hummus - I think it could've had a bit more hummus inside. Hands down, 100%, my go-to coffee shop. The Red Cat is an all around win when it comes to coffee shops. The atmosphere is excellent, their music selection is fantastic, and it's more roomy than their other location on 1st Ave. I come here typically to study or to grab a cup of coffee with my friends, either way the atmosphere is so accommodating. I also come to the Red Cat because of the staff. The staff is always so nice, friendly, and helpful. Ask them about what's new and what's good, they will even ask you some questions to make sure what you get is suited to your taste. Be sure to get your coffee in a mug and stay for a bit. Finally, the coffee is FANTASTIC. I've had most of the items on their menu and I can't say I've found something I don't at least like. I highly recommend trying one of their signature lattes names after cats (I prefer the Bengal, get it frozen if your there in a hot day). Cute, conveniently located coffee/breakfast shop in the heart of pepper place! Stopped here after a night shift when I was hangry but too tired to cook myself breakfast. I got the breakfast grit bowl (cheese grits, an egg, bacon, more cheese) which was large and delicious! Even though it was great, the egg patty and crumbled bacon seemed pre-cooked and reheated... I can't even imagine how good it would be with freshly cooked bacon and a poached egg! I got the super food smoothie which was spinach, banana, mango based. Though a little sweet, it was refreshing and I appreciated being able to sneak some greens in. Ample seating of multiple types, arm chairs with side tables, standard 4 tops and bar seating along the window with a ton of chargers. This place would be great for getting some work done. I have been looking for a unique coffee shop in Birmingham and I think I have found my favorite one. It is a super cozy yet spacious coffee shop with various types of chairs, tables, a couch or two and even a bar area along the wall looking outside where you can bring your device if you want. They also have a few tables with umbrellas outside looking at the Pepper Place Market street area. The coffee was amazing. I had an iced coffee medium Guatemalan roast and it was smooth and made just the way I like it. The best one I've tasted. I also ordered the Martin biscuit. I've had better buscuits but it was still good. I thought the meat and cheese were going to be in the middle of it like a normal biscuit but it's actually all cooked into the breading...interesting. The service was decent for a busy Saturday. It did take a few minutes to get my order for my wife and I but it was also on a Saturday morning during the Pepper Place Market, so I cut them some slack. I will add that my wife ordered one of the crepes and it was also was really good( had Nutella and bananas in it). I will definitely come back and may try it on a normal day when it is less crowded. My favorite drink it the Burmese lattè and I switch it up when it comes to breakfast items, the peach muffin being a favorite and last week I tried their biscuit (with sausage, lettuce, and tomato) and it was very good. The biscuit itself is made with chives and cheese so it has a good amount of flavor. The staff is friendly enough but my only complaint is that it usually takes a while for me to get my food...one time I ordered my coffee and muffin and they completely forgot I ordered my muffin and another time I ordered a biscuit it took a very long time for me to get that as well. I'll try different menu items until I find a favorite because I do feel like there are some quality items here. They also serve cafe food crepes, pastries, etc. Service was super friendly. You walk in and head straight to the counter to place an order so I do suggest checking the menu out online prior to your visit. There are several 4 top, a few two tops, a laptop bar and a couple couches so plenty of seating for a variety of groups. Busier on weekends but probably a great place to study or relax on week days. Great place for coffee, lunch, and studying! It's a quaint, quirky little shop with big windows all around. I go here to study often because I love the casual atmosphere. Most recently I tried the tomato basil soup and it was phenomenal! Can't wait to get it again. On Saturdays during the Farmers Market they also make crepes! So yummy! But be aware if you go during the Farmers Market it will be extremely packed! I was really impressed by location of this place: quiet street under big trees in the middle of the city. Several tables on the street (though I think they can put some more) and a lot of space inside. They serve breakfast all day long, so at the lunch time you can choose from both breakfast and lunch menus. What didn't impress me that much was the lunch itself. I've ordered a cup of latte and an omelette. Coffee wasn't bitter, but had rather weird taste, so I had to drink a bottle of water after it. Not my favourite shop in Birmingham. This shop seems to mostly focus on sweet, syrup drinks. I prefer a espresso/coffee focused cafe. They have good locations, but their coffee isn't very good. This is also an older style shop where if you get a cappuccino, they are going to make you something very bubbly and too hot to drink immediately. If you are looking for a third-wave style shop with a heavy focus on coffee quality and taste, this may not be a place you want to visit. read more

There is nothing too fancy about The Red Cat, but the seating is plentiful, the lights nicely dimmed, the baristas (is that what I should call the masters behind my delicious cinnamon infused coffee beverage?) friendly but not too chatty... all in all, a great place to hang out to work, meet a friend, or chill out for a bit. I come here about 3 times a week, if not more. It's the least pretentious coffee shop I've ever been to, and still has a unique vibe. Everyone here is so friendly and does their best to give you a great experience. And then the food...mmm. If you're a heavy meat eater, this may not be the place for you. But I'm addicted to their tomatoe basil soup. It's the best I've ever had. They also serve breakfast all day so to switch it up I sometimes get the breakfast sandwich or the cheese grits. Everything is super tasty! They make their mocha with dark chocolate, so it's unique in my opinion. It's another thing I'm addicted to. They have lattes named after cats and are so delicious. Expect great coffee and good food. The only time I come here is Saturday morning before pepper Place Market but, I plan on making this something that happens more often. To have this in Birmingham is awesome and it is one of the places that if I want to give someone from out of town a truly authentic Birmingham experience I bring them here. The coffee: they typically have 3 daily brews available. A medium, dark, and decaf their selection of espressos and cappuccinos are some of the best I have found offered in Birmingham. If you normally drink coffee you won't be disappointed however, I encourage trying one of their cappuccinos or espressos. It has never disappointed mean when I have tried something new coffee wise The food: they have an arrangement of goodies made locally. I'm not sure if they make it in house or someone local makes them however, the quality is great and the cookies are ginormous! This place is known for their crepes unfortunately, I haven't had the privilege of trying that yet but I'm planning on making that statement change in the near future :-) I have tried the oatmeal cookie and the chocolate chunks and I have to say this is the place to indulge on a cookie craving. My stomach agrees;) The customer service: friendly but a little slow. I have not been here anytime except for Saturday and usually wait in line for a while. They do have a lot of people come in that morning but I think they could have a better system for ordering to make the line move a little quicker. The shortest wait time that I have had has been 10 minutes. When I get my coffee and occasional goodies that always makes it worth the wait. I've only been here once so my review is very limited in scope. I love the decor of this shop! Bohemian cat theme seems to work for this comfy couch filled shop. The drinks are named after cats and are your standard mixed coffee beverages. Since it was hot and my first time here, I tried their iced coffee and my guest tried the cappuccino (our go-to's). Both were good. That's it. Just good. But I honestly didn't mind the less than fantastic coffee because the atmosphere of this place made everything seem so pleasant. The staff was friendly and service was speedy. I may come back to try some of the cat themed beverages. It's hours and location are the main blocks to visiting it more often. I had an order of their cappuccino and a blueberry scone. The cappuccino left much to be desired. The blueberry scone, however, was terrible. I have such a love for pastries, but a bite of this scone literally made that love disintegrated. I really hope that the quality of all of their other food selection is on a higher standard than that scone. It's become a tradition that every time we come to the Pepper Place Farmers Market, we stop here first for coffee. One those Saturdays, get there early or there very well may be a line out of the door. That said, even when there is a crowd, the employees here crank the coffee out fast. The coffee is great! I mostly get either a black coffee with a flavor shot or a latte. My husband typically gets a signature latte and they always look and taste amazing. Don't forget about the food too! I have frequently gotten a bowl of grits (they serve McEwen and Sons and I think we can all agree that's the best brand of grits ever). The scones are good too and my 2 year old inhaled an entire salted caramel cookie without sharing a single bite. I also saw that there is now a breakfast bowl with grits, eggs, and bacon and I can't wait to go back and try that!!!
