Not going to lie, I definitely died a bit when I tried this place. Turns out, I've never had dry rub spicy heat before and it is definitely not the same as wet sauce spice. Learned that the hard way. Once the initial shock faded, I did still enjoy our meal. Overall, my guy and I both thought the chicken was just a bit above average, despite having a higher cost. HOWEVER, they only provide 1 small thing of sauce! That is soo rude and upsetting! Just have large tubs of sauce available for people if the individual packets are too expensive. Also, for what we paid, they could've at least given a decent slice of bread instead of a sad slice of wonder bread. Chicken is 3.5, but rounding down because of the lack of sauce included.

The honey butter chicken sandwich is elite, especially when you add that Strawberry Milkshake!! the tenders have the perfect crunch and the Mac n Cheese is awesome. They've got $2 Tenders on Thursdays. The staff brought the energy and made it some of the most fun I've had in a long time. Overall this place is fire and I'll definitely be back.

Yes!!!! And damn, the chicken, shrimp, and cauliflower at The Red Chickz really are as crunchy as they claim. I've been a hot chicken fan ever since my production team and I worked the CMAs over a decade ago, so I know good hot chicken when I taste it. The seasoning here is savory, addictive, and absolutely delicious. Now, full disclosure: I love hot chicken... but hot chicken does not love me. So I always order their Cool (no heat) version, and every single time it is fantastic. Their tenders are beautifully crunchy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and generously sized. They're so substantial that you can easily make a full sandwich out of them , especially if you add their delicious Texas toast. And let's talk about the shrimp: these are not little shrimp. They are basically the size of prawns, and honestly, some of the best fried shrimp I've had in North County. I'd even say they're better than what I've had at some seafood spots nearby. But my absolute favorite thing on the menu? The cauliflower.As a kid, I never liked cauliflower, but The Red Chickz completely changed my mind. Their cauliflower is outrageously good , crunchy, flavorful, and seriously craveable. Lately, I've been perfectly happy ordering just the cauliflower, Texas toast, and fries because it's that good. A few more standouts: Fries: thick, hearty, steak fry-style, and excellent Mac & cheese: one of the best I've had anywhere Salads: fresh, crisp, and generously portioned Fried cheese curds: squeaky, creamy, and delicious Honestly, I could easily make a full meal out of just the sides and salads. Big thumbs up to The Red Chickz, crunchy, flavorful, and consistently satisfying. I'm looking forward to a very crunchy relationship with this place. Cheers!

This place lives to the hype I will say!! After walking around the mall I wanted a quick bite to each for lunch. This place is pretty big with a lot of seating both inside and outside. This reminds me a lot of Dave's Hot Chicken but I think this is 10x better. I got the original chicken sandwich, added some pepper jack cheese (reccomended by the staff and I will say amazing) with a side of wedge fries. Service was great, the staff were super friendly. The portions are big! I wasn't aware but M-F from 11-2pm they do lunch specials for 9.99! Loooove! Next time I'm in Carlsbad I'll come back !! Check it out if you're in the area!

Listen, paisans -- saw a TikTok about Red Chickz and I got nostalgic enough to make the hundred‑mile pilgrimage from San Diego. I was picturing big, glorious chicken tenders. What arrived: two regular tenders with fries and Texas toast, plus two spicy tenders. Mac & cheese on the side? Missing. Parking? Ridonkulous -- maybe holiday chaos, maybe bad planning. Taste wise, this one lands in the low‑average camp. The meat was dry and the crunch I was hankerin' for was AWOL. My lady asked for a mild heat on her country‑style; she got the full inferno instead -- maybe a mistake, maybe crossed wires, but not what she asked for. And here's the kicker: we asked for one sauce and were billed for four. That ain't right. Overcharging for extras leaves a bad aftertaste you can't fry away. Came in on a Thursday for the $2 tender deal and it was great! I got the glow spice level 3 piece and a strawberry shake (for free for checking in on yelp!!) and shared a large fry with my husband. My husband got the cool spice level. I loved mine with the buffalo sauce. I only ate about 1.5 and took some home, was a great left over for the next day. My husband can't handle spice and although it was only paprika on his he liked it but think he will try the country level next time. The tendies were flavorful, crunchy and very tender on the inside. Piping hot temp wise. So much better than Canes. Fries were pretty good, a bit too soft for my liking. Only bummer is you have to pay for additional sauce, but I get it otherwise people would probably waste it...it's good and pretty cheap so it's worth it. Ranch was pretty good. Strawberry shake was delicious! There was a bit of a wait but I was with good company and there was good people watching lol. Bathroom was pretty clean for how busy they were and how many young people they had working haha. I would definitely come back! :)

Really wanted to like this place. The girl working the counter was busy with an order but still greeted us. She did ask if we had any questions. We thought we had it. Ordered the honey butter chicken sandwich x2. Both mild. One was with fries the other with coleslaw. And asked for honey mustard sauce. Didn't realize had to pay extra for that. The coleslaw was very bland. The sandwich was ok. One chicken strip for a sandwich was ridiculous. The sauce the sandwiches came with reminded me of thousand island dressing. The honey mustard sauce was different. I will say, the chicken strips weren't greasy like another chicken place we tried. They were crispy with little flavor. I totally disagree with having to pay for a side of sauce. Now if I was asking for extra, that I would understand. Will we be back? No.

I've been wanting to come here for long time - especially after every foodie IG influencer posted videos of this place. Let me tell you, it is legit. $3 beers daily. $10 lunch specials daily. $2 tenders on Thursday. What a deal. Free drink with Yelp check in. The spice levels are for real. and they are seriously generous on the portion size... 2 tenders might be enough for most people. I'm guessing but there is a secret to breading fried chicken with corn flakes and I think that's how they do it. It is very crunchy on the outside with juicy chicken inside. It's really good. What gets me is the spice. It's not your wimpy spice levels that you might find at those big corporate chains, this will put sweat on your brow, which is how I like it (bonfire and blaze were HOT and you can level up from there)... But if you aren't into getting your face melted off, there are more mild levels... I'm definitely a fan and will return...

Wanted to see what the hype is all about- and yes the chicken is amazing. The crunch is the best and the seasoning delicious. Cashier was very helpful describing the spice levels, making to easier to order what's best for my kids. Why not 4 stars- cleanliness. Tables needed to be cleaned. I really enjoyed this spot Service was good, and food was fresh. They told me from cool to glow it was a big jump in spice. The inferno was HOT! But yummy. I enjoyed that it was crunchy but there was not a lot of breading. The strawberry dragon fruit drink is really delicious, and the smoky honey mustard sauce is worth the .75 cents. I would of gotten 2 if I knew how much I was going to enjoy it. The tenders are $4 each, $2 on Thursdays. When you order 2 tenders they have to be the same level of spice, and if you want to try a different spice flavor you need to get a third tender, which is strange but it was fine. The chicken was crunchy, tender, and I wouldn't say they were dry at all. The piece of toast that comes with it is a bit useless, but the pickles were really good I wish the order came with more. The potato wedges are crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside which I enjoy, but I would get the delicious cheese curds over the wedges if I go back again. The cheese curds were really good and you can get a spice level on those too. Ambiance was cool, they have some funny brain rot videos of the tv's. Biggest complaint is it was on the dirty side, and the bathroom was really dirty. I told the employee and she thanked me for telling her I'd come back again, but on a Thursday to get the $2 tender deal.

My wife and I recently caught a matinee at the Regal at the Carlsbad Morgue....er...Mall. After the movie, we decided to check out Red Chickz, since my FB feed has been slammed with ads for it. It's conveniently located at the spot that Angry Chickz was in (apparently called that because people who ate there were angry at the poor quality). It's a order at the counter and wait for your name to be called kind of place. [set rant on] yet they want tips. Tips used to be something you gave extra for table service - yet these days, merely taking an order justifies this? NOT. [Set rant mode off] I ordered the chicken salad at the Bonfire spice level (first time there, testing what "hot" was), while my wife ordered the tenders.While NOT a big fan of wedges, I ordered those since the other option was cauliflower bites (now that's just disgusting....but I digress). It was cool that they make their own shakes right there, but I opted for a Diet Coke. My wife wanted tea, but that wasn't an option, so she went with water. I will say, in today's world of ludicrous pricing at fast food joints, this was a very reasonable price for the two of us. A few minutes later, they called my name, and I picked up our lunch. First bite in, and I had two realizations - this chicken was PERFECTLY cooked - nice and moist - and WAY WAY WAY too much breading. Just over the top. That said, it was truly a very good sandwich, heat level was what I would call medium. The wedges were actually quite good, too. My wife loved her tenders and coleslaw (pictured). The only dings were the aforementioned breading, lack of iced tea, and the lack of salt and pepper (which seems strange - they did get some for me out of the kitchen, but it was delivered in the sauce bowls - this is something that really needs to be addressed. Slaw and fries w/o salt/pepper? Nope). We'll go back and try it again to check out the next heat level. Overall, I'd put this near Dave's as far as similarity goes, and above Pollo Loco on quality.

Where do I start? Well I am going to say that Kyler took great care of us. Explained the menu and gave great recommendations. My wife had the chicken sandwich, medium heat and I had the two tenders, hot. Both were great. I will say that while I loved the flavor and first bite the heat was perfect, it seems to stack. I first came here with my wife on a lunch and movie date back in May of this year. Since then, we've been back probably about 10 times, usually bringing along family or friends to share in the food. That alone should tell you how brilliant Red Chickz is and it is easily the best spicy chicken sandwich spot I've been to after sampling a dozen similar spots around the county. The portions are large, a two strip meal easily splittable. The breading is thick, crunchy and flavorful that helps soak in the oil without becoming soggy even after reheating. The spice coating is delicious, a good amount of heat, and nicely cooked into the chicken and breading. And all of the sides have been top-notch, making every meal I've had fairly perfect. Having come so often, I've tried something new on every visit, allowing me to have a good list of things to give a hearty thumbs up on. The Original Sandwich: Juicy chicken, good spice and heat, sour pickles, sweet slaw, all on that tasty bun. It's a classic and it's delicious. The Comeback Sauce that came with it was a great add-on, not too salty or sugary, and bringing its own flavors. Chicken n' Waffle: Sweet, salty, and spicy ... you can't go wrong with all of that. The waffles were thick, soft on the inside with a crispy outer shell. They soaked up the syrup and eating them with the chicken was soul comforting on multiple levels. French Toast Sandwich: Delicious, like the chicken n' waffle, just with a hint of vanilla. Honey Butter Sandwich: Another sweet and salty masterpiece. Dripping with thick and gooey honey butter, each bite is a sinful and creamy delight. Cauliflower Sandwich: It's a thick slice taken from the bottom of the head. Cooked to the point where it's tender and easy to bite and firm enough where it stays in one piece on the bun. And it absorbs the flavoring surprisingly well, the breading nice and spicy. It may not be the chicken, but it's still pretty good. The only issue with this is the sheer size. It may be a wild thing to whine about, but the cauliflower does get old about 3/4ths of the way through in a way that the chicken doesn't. Chicken Tenders: Basic, delicious, damn good. Potato Wedges: Perfectly cooked, thickly cut, nicely spiced, and they have a great skin on them when eaten either fresh or on reheating. Cauliflower Bites: My wife's favorite thing here. And just like the wedges, they've brilliant fresh or on reheat. Cheese Curds: Holy crap these are good. I can guarantee you, I will be coming back. This place might be two cities away, but, nothing can keep me from visiting a few times a month. I mean, I still have the Jumbo Shrimp, Loaded Mac n' Cheese, Nashville Tacos, and Southwestern Salad to try. God, I just convinced myself to have lunch there on Monday. read more

This is honestly my new favorite chicken spot. They have an amazing selection and the quality is great. I got the French toast chicken sandwich with the cheese curds for my first time and it was so delicious. I love sweet and savory/spicy so it was perfect. I got of them (spark, medium) and that was a good solid heat and flavor. I went back a few days later and got another French toast but with Mac and cheese which was so saucy/cheesy, I loved it. I would say their only down fall right now is that they don't have enough locations, but I'm willing to make the drive, it's that good. Fast and friendly service, with a good ambiance and seating. It's also near the mall which makes it a great choice while shopping. I highly recommend trying them out ASAP! read more

I was on my way back to OC from SD and was a bit peckish along the way. Found this spot on the way and I'm glad I tried it. My man behind the counter is an absolute boss. I wish I remembered his name, but major shout to him, we had a nice small conversation and he was on point with his recommendations for menu items. Service great. The chicken sandwich was tasty, nice kick of heat on the spice blend I chose. Tasted fresh and clean. The potato wedges were a nice change of pace from the standard fries. The cheese curds were also good, but I quickly got flavor fatigue from them. Just a tad too greasy for me. Overall, the food was enjoyable. The restaurant is pretty nice and spacious. I gotta give Mark the owner a shout out for understanding great customer service. He was very warm and came out to greet me right as I walked in to pickup my to go order tonight. We had a short chat then he asked his staff to take care of my extra sauces and get me something to drink. A small gesture, but just a brilliant first impression, customer service, and meant a lot to me as a customer. Kudos Mark! Oh ya the chicken and french toast was the best in SD easily, 8.7/10 for both. Mac and cheese was solid noodles still al dente which is means it was made fresh, not the bagged junk at popeyes. I recently returned to Red Chicks after my previous visit left me unimpressed, despite giving it a four-star review. I decided to give it another shot. Unfortunately, the food was just as lackluster as before, nothing to rave about and definitely not on par with other chicken spots I've been to. But my real issue is with the service. They had signs offering a free soft drink or shake if you posted a review on Yelp or Google. After writing another honest four-star review (because the food still isn't five-star worthy), I tried to claim the shake. The cashier denied it because I had checked in (yelp) twice. Apparently, returning customers aren't qualified after one check-in, which seems odd. Wouldn't a business want returning customers to be happy? So instead I had my wife write her own review, also four stars because we refuse to lie about the quality of the food, and when we showed it to the staff, they denied us again, saying only five-star reviews get a shake. Nowhere on their sign did it mention a five-star review requirement. So, they're clearly desperate for perfect reviews and will not honor their own promotion unless you inflate your rating. It's dishonest, and frankly, it's bad business. We left without the shake. Very disappointing. Honor honest reviews. Don't falsely advertise. read more

I'll start off talking about the service. Everyone is very nice and attentive. They try to keep the store clean as well. The service was good when it came to speed of receiving the food. Luckily for us it wasn't too busy. There was about 10+ people eating inside. As for the food, I ordered the medium heat. It had nice flavor but I wish it was a bit spicer. Next time I'll have to go to the hot flavor. The sauce was good and their wedges are delicious. We came here to compare it to Dave's hot chicken and I'd say it's pretty close to the level for flavor. came here after volunteering at the carlsbad half marathon. it's advertised as having the crunchiest hot chicken. i will say, it was very crunchy. and not hard crunchy either. very nicely done. i went with the spark which was considered medium. i have a pretty high threshold for spicy so its more like mild to me. i asked for a little sample of the spiciest and i think i could have handled that. the cashier was super nice and helpful to first timers. very nice place. will probably come by again when i'm around the area. read more

I never understood the Popeye's Spicy Chicken Sandwich craze. I had four or five before deciding as fond as I am of Popeye's fried chicken (and red beans and rice) there's nothing terribly special about their sandwich. these days pretty much every place that sells burgers or anything meaty on a bun or between two slices of bread has added a spicy chicken sandwich to the menu, and I prefer KFC and the Jack in the Box's versions to Popeye's. additionally, the hot chicken sandwich craze spawned a slew of "featured menu item" imitators: Main Chick Hot Chicken, Angry Chickz, Dave's Hot Chicken, and Bad Mutha Clucka all of which open shops in the neighborhood. none are very good. in that niche, it's not close: RED CHICKZ should be your spicy chicken sandwich of choice by a country mile. though I'd confess to preferring Cross Street Chicken (Carlsbad location's closed and Mira Mesa's a drive) or the Crack Shack's (Encinitas) sandwiches (both restaurants are, in fairness, on the fast casual rather than fast food end of the spectrum AND sell beer) but still pretty darn good. I got to visit my family for the first time in a long time during Thanksgiving - we decided to have lunch at the Carlsbad mall because my mom was craving some fried chicken. I've never heard of this restaurant but did notice the similarity with Dave's Hot Chicken, which is local to where I live in the Bay Area. First timers here! I've always heard good things about The Red Chickz, but when my good friend recommended this place to me, I asked "So is Dave's Chicken better or this place?" She said hands down, "Red Chickz is so much better!" So I said BET, and decided to try this place while being in the area. When me and my fiance walked in, we were greeted right away by this gentleman. He asked us, "Is this your first time here?" We both said yes and he proceeded to go over the WHOLE menu with us. Including the favorites, the spiciness level, and even the combinations of sandwiches and sides. We thanked him for going in depth & we hit it off by conversing about the spiciness level. We were stuck in between the Spark and Bonfire. We laughed a bit and he really liked us, so when we checked out; he wanted to introduce himself to us. You were awesome, Mark! The ambiance inside is spacious and clean, with the beautiful Carlsbad fresh air breezing through the restaurant. Mark was sitting next to our table training another employee I believe and all I said was "Ooh it's a little chilly in here." Mid conversation, he overhead me and offered to close one of the doors for me! Caught in shock, of course I told him no because I don't want one minor inconvenience to affect the whole restaurant. He double checked & asked "Are you sure?" I work in Hospitality so for him to listen to a customer and SERVE us with a big heart went a long way. The food didn't miss, it was phenomenal & yummy! We both got the Original Chickz Sandwich with Spark spiciness level and cheese curds on the side. One cheese curd with Bonfire and one with Spark. The fried chicken was cooked with perfectly crunchy breading and the sandwiches were so much bigger than most fried chicken places. To say the least, it was the best chicken sandwich I've ever had & I will be back because now I'm craving their sandwiches again. AGAIN, Mark was awesome! My daughter opted for a 2 piece tender meal Country Style with ketchup. I was in the mood for more heat ordering a Classic Chicken sandwich with Blaze sauce. We were helped by a fresh faced teen at the register who was more than patient with a couple first timers. Upon sitting down we both noticed how BIG the chicken pieces are. My 8 yr old daughter only finished one tender and her fries. My Blaze sandwich had some heat. It made my nose run and mouth burn which made my meal enjoyable. I can usually handle my heat, but I suggest you don't go beyond Bonfire. I tried Inferno because I thought I was tough, and it made me cry--literally! But it was so worth it because the flavors were out of this world. The shrimp were huge and perfectly cooked, with just the right amount of crispiness. They were absolutely mouth-watering.
