Never even heard of Softies. At first I thought it was an ice cream place. We walked in to check it out and it's a cute little diner looking place that serves smash burgers. It's located in the USC village. If you are looking for a smash burger, this is your place. I really like the crispy edges. If you like mushrooms.. you have to try the shroom burger! It was amazing. It's a burger with a crispy tempura battered enoki mushroom. You can also order it without the beef patty. All the flavors of the sauce, cheese, mushroom and meat blended very well. The fries were a little over cooked but still good. I didn't get the cashiers name (Asian guy who goes to USC.. not sure if that helps lol).. I wish I did because he was super friendly and had great customer service. When we came in (It was a Thursday around noon) we were only the second one in line but then a flood of students came in.. about a line of 20, so we got super lucky. We stopped for lunch here while attending the Festival of Books. Big mistake to come during lunch because there was a long line, no seating inside or on the nearby patio, and a 30-minute wait to get our food. We were all hungry but decided to commit, stand in line, and brave the wait. We had a big group, so our friends scoped out the area, and we were able to find a table to accommodate us around the corner. Although there was a rush, the staff held on to their composure and still offered great customer service. After a 30-minute wait, we got our food. I ordered the Lil' Softie and added lettuce to get my greens. The burger was a plain Jane, but I didn't mind. I made it a combo and added a drink and tots. Everything tasted great, and the tots had the perfect amount of crunch. Sadly, I was so hungry that I forgot to take a pic of my food. I love it when a place lets you order at the register and then they bring it out to you. We sat in the patio and it was the best choice tbh. To our surprise they brought out corn bread. It was solid cornbread with some butter the butter did not really have a taste so it would be great if they once day made it flavored. My partner had the blackened chicken sandwich and I had the grilled chicken sandwich. The fries are thin and have pizza like seasoning. They were pretty tasty but their ketchup is not chilled and that matters to me. My chicken sandwich was great if anything it may have been a tiny over cooked but honestly with everything in the plate it was great. The pickle chips were sooo pickle. They cut them in shears so if you like the taste of pickled you will love these. They literally were the perfect pair to our entrees. My parter also had the strawberry lemonade and if you are a fan of stuff stronger in strawberry taste please skip the lemonade. Yum!! Caesar salad is a treat!!! I would skip the chicken (since that's $4 extra and it didn't blow my mind) and order the salad with a single burger. Those two make a great meal. I initially had Softies when they were a vendor at Smorgasburg and had been hooked ever since! So hearing they finally opened up shop at the USC village, I was excited to stop on by. When visiting, parking is 2 hours free at the USC village lot w/o validation (located underneath the village itself)! Food: I've had each of the burgers and each of them are still a standout and the prices are about average for a smashburger spot (between $9-13) in LA. Service: Service was quick but fairly hands-off. The space was empty when we arrived, our order took about 10 minutes. Overall, Softies has still got it. The burgers are awesome, the sides stand on their own, while the cookie and salad wrap felt a bit more understated. Here's what I ordered: Aji Double Burger ($13): Really really good. The aji verde sauce was creamy and rich, pickled jalapenos were sweet with a nice bite, and the burger itself had the perfect lacy edge that most smashburgers miss. Tots ($5): Crispy and light, seasoned with a Lawry's-esque seasoning salt. Yum. Chicken Caesar Wrap($14): Straightforward. Didn't quite stand out as much. Awww man I've been rooting for them to finally have a store of their own during their pop-up times and they finally did it this year! Staff were friendly and such a clean place at USC Village makes it really great area to visit (lucky for USC students). Softies has moved and found its home in USC village!! So excited cause now I don't need to wait till Sunday to eat it !!! Finally got to try their shroom burger and loaded tots (aji style) and geezzzzz they both did not disappoint. The shroom burger had so much crispiness and later getting the chewy texture of enoki mushrooms. I was pleasantly surprised that there was a patty too, didn't know that haha The tots were perfectly crispy too plus the aji sauce, patty bits, and jalapeños really made it. They also have this bottled hot sauce that has a nice sweetness to it. I'm really weak (for an Asian) with spice and this was not spicy for me at all. Working at USC allows me to try the great food spots here at the Village a lot. Softies just opened up before the school year and I was fortunate enough to try it before the huge rushes that having all the students back on campus can bring. The burgers were amazing! Very yummy and have so much flavor. This was absolutely my favorite part about the entire meal! I recommend getting the tater tots as the fries are not the best compared to the tots. Even their employees recommend the tots over fries. The ranch there is delicious. Be prepared to pay extra for sauce. Food wise, you will definitely enjoy the experience. I even got the lime pie and it was incredible. When it comes to the wait time, it will be packed during peak lunch/rush hours. The prices are high but that's to be expected being at USC. You will enjoy the experience but again, the price will definitely be up there. I did feel full though after getting the burger, tater tots, and a soda. Lunch menu is simple, just two different kinds of special burgers, a vegetarian option, chopped cheese sandwich, fries and tater tots. I got the Cali burger, grilled onions, American cheese, a special garlicky sauce and a potato bun. It was fantastic. Crispy edges and great flavor. If I'd only gotten the burger I would've given it five stars, but I got the fries and they were terrible. Heard great things about this place so I decided to stop by for a quick bite while I was in the area. It's located in the USC Village, closer to the Jefferson side. There's plenty of parking underground (enter on Hoover, by Target), and it's free for the first two hours. There's a good amount of seating inside and outside the restaurant. It does seem like there's quite a bit of underutilized space that could offer more seating, but it wasn't hard to find parking on a Monday evening. Most of the crowd was students. Service was fairly quick. The two people taking orders and calling out orders were both really friendly and helped explain some menu items. We decided to try the Cali and Aji, along with fries and tater tots. I didn't think the burgers were amazing by any means. They were good, but not sure they justified the price point (although expensive meals are sort of the norm at the Village). The tater tots were actually quite good, though. Glad I tried it since hearing so many good things, but not sure I'd come out just to try Softies again any time soon. Its located right next to USC, in a really cool spot. My friends each got a different burger and we each loved our burgers. I went with the Cali burger which was surprisingly pretty reasonably priced for LA. I also got a side of tater tots bc i LOVE tots (a la Napeoleon Dynamite). I find it beyond frustrating when burger places or any restaurant for that matter doesn't allow for the removal of onions. It's such a distinct flavor and it is probably one of the most popular ingredients that people don't enjoy. An appropriate cheese to meat ratio with not enough sauce, but the main takeaway is the softness of the buns and crispy lacing. Went during a festival at USC. I placed my order and then was told it was going to be at least a 35 minute wait to get my order. I was starving and had already paid, so waited it out. After 45 minutes, I went to ask if my order was almost ready and they apparently forgot to put it in? Or maybe confused it with another order or something? Warning to UCLA fans: this is located on USC lol. We put it in the GPS and realized we're parking at USC BUT the parking is free for plenty of time we needed to eat and walk around. It's not a huge menu but what you're going here for is the smashburgers. It was a little saltier than expected and I think the tots are probably the better way to go than the fries. I think given the name with not knowing why they named it, it'd be nice if they had soft serve milkshakes and nothing crazy, just a little sweet to help pair with the salty.
