A few things I love about this place, plus a few things that could give it 5 stars for me. I love the casual atmosphere and the seating encourages people to potentially strike up a conversation with someone new. Great selection of drinks and board games and pop corn make it extra family friendly. Also, one of the only places that has family-friendly trivia on Tuesdays! Improvements to Consider: It would be nice to be able to order food directly, rather than fully on our phones. My friend had an older phone and mine was about to die. When we tried to order at the front desk they said no, we had to order on our phones. This was really frustrating. The food is really not great. I find it a little odd to have a restaurant with a dog bed in it, but they don't allow dogs! Lol read more

Bill was $35. I had one $5 well drink and my husband had one drink from the tap. Guy ringing me up just shrugged his shoulders when I asked why. Horrible service - didn't get the waitress to even look at me as she was taking food out until I literally said "this is ridiculous". I didn't even bother to ask how it was $35 from her because I just wanted to leave and waiting for the waitress to come and tell me would have been forever - just like the service. Good only knows how long it would have been to get an itemized receipt. We just left. So sad. Will never come back. read more

I have now been to Redd Dog twice. My partner and I originally checked it out last month and I thought it was awesome! When you enter, you give them your credit or debit card and they give you a card, which you use to self pour a wide selection of cider, beer, seltzer, and wine. We shared a giant pretzel and it was tasty. We decided to bring our daughter back on Friday. Family-friendly is definitely a plus for me. I still enjoyed the self pour, of course, but this time we decided to order actual entrees. I got the black bean tacos, he got chicken tacos, and our daughter got kids macaroni and cheese. The tacos were fine. Nothing special, but not terrible. When ordering, the menu on their website versus the online ordering menu are different. He does not care for onions and there were SO many green onions on the top, so he did have to pick out a good portion of his tacos. The cabbage slaw was a nice touch, but apparently guacamole no longer comes with the tacos, so we had to go up and get a side of that. Everything is self-serve, so when it's busy, it gets really congested. It would be nice if occasionally someone came by just to check on you or see if you needed something, rather than having to go up to the front and ask for each thing. Back to the guac. It was terrible. It reminded me of the really bad guacamole they serve at Subway. It doesn't taste like avocados and just tastes like it came out of some sort of package. I ended up throwing it out. On the plus side, the kids mac and cheese was yummy. It came with a side of homemade potato chips. I'm not a potato fan, but they were good. My daughter liked them. We play shuffleboard and they have other games there to play. All in all, I like this place a lot for the drink selection, games, and chill vibe, but I haven't had any food that was outstanding. What a great find! I met a friend and loved the punch card with beer, wine, kombucha, coder and seltzer samples. They had a great variety of pizza, pretzel, nachos, salads, fish and chips and other delicious eats. They had great atmosphere and dog theme. I would Definately return. read more

I'd like to give a 3 star because the pour your own option is nice and convenient for when you would like to just try different beers or wines as well if you're unsure of which one you'd like and I tried a few of them which were good! When we came in they told us they had no pizza, breadsticks and the soda machine was broken so even if you weren't drinking you couldn't get soda or even water unless you wanted it warm out of the broken soda machine. Another thing I will say is the quality of the food was not the best, I ordered two quesadilla's and they were both soggy and not cooked fully the cheese and chicken was still cold and not melted so I didn't even finish my food because It was not the best. Other than that it is a nice atmosphere to get together with friends hangout and play some games. read more

I was able to make my first yelp elite event and it was awesome. I have been planning a trip here for a while, but life is weird and busy and sometimes its just easier to go to places you know. I am very glad I was finally able to visit and its a really cool spot for sure. We had a pretzel and was able to sample a bunch of beer. The beer was good and the pretzel was stupid big and delicious, we are definitely planning a return trip soon. I think the idea is fun and cool. I wish there were a few barrel aged beers for the season to sip on, but overall I highly recommend this place for any beer drinker. read more

Pros: atmosphere, TV's, games, chill place to hang out with friends Cons: if it's a "family" restaurant then please have at least one high chair for families. Food is OK for Costco dishes being warmed up in the back kitchen. However, PLEASE let your chefs know the difference between raw and cooked tortillas out of the package. We ordered the chicken tacos and the chef used corn tortillas that were barely warmed up, because he didn't realize they were raw. If you are going to use corn tortillas purchased that way then they need to be cooked and NOT just warmed up. Needless to say, we took one bite and didn't touch them. If the staff was attentive, they would have realized there was something wrong with the meal. At a minimum, they would have asked at checkout how our meal was, but none of the two people who we made contact with during the checkout process took the time to ask. Not wanting conflict, I didn't bring this up to the staff. So, I will vent here and hopefully this 1 star review will help in some re-training of staff. read more

Came in for diner with my family. The host/server was rude from the minute we walked in. Had to keep asking for thing and got eye rolls every time. Tried it out for the first time last night. Boyfriend and I went to Locust next door and enjoyed cider. We were able to order Redd Dog from Locust and have someone bring it over to us no problem (apparently it's very commonplace)! I was very excited to try this food out and unfortunately was left feeling disappointed. Between the side salad, smothered tots, and carnivore pizza it came to about $60 including the tip. Food was delivered quickly but honestly it did not taste great, nor worth the money by any means. The pizza had little sauce, only thing I could taste was oil, cheese, and bacon bit preservatives. Tots were similar, only tasting what a bacon bit bag smells like. I could only stomach eating the salad. Hoping this was just a bad night for the kitchen because it's an establishment that seems to get positive reviews frequently. Service was amazing, food fell quite a bit short. read more

We love this place! Great food and a solid selection of beer (self-pour) that rotates pretty regularly. The kids love the complimentary popcorn and fun selection of board games + shuffleboard. We've also been lucky to have found our way there for trivia, bingo, and brewer's nights and walked away with some cool swag and prizes. read more

Preface: this has been a favorite go-to for bringing friends and especially out-of-towners for awhile. So it's far from my first visit. The drinks are great but I've always really enjoyed the food. Like, I ordered from Uber eats (which I never do) because I literally dreamed about their cheese sticks and I couldn't go in because I had Covid last June. However. Tonight was a little rough. We had orders in by 6:30 and they were a bit slower than usual getting it out (ok, whatever). Partway into our cheese sticks, we realized the cheese was melted but the dough was literally raw. Oof. I hate sending food back, I never do that, but...raw dough is a health hazard so I hesitantly took it back. The pizza came out a few minutes later and was 1)TINY. I come here more than I should. It's not a $25 personal pan. 2) burned on top. Ish. And 3) dough was still raw. Sent it back. They were clearly not happy, and I'm not excited either...said the pizza oven might be down. By contrast, my friend's burger was perfect, totally up to the usual standard, and my sister's salad was likewise tasty. So then the remakes came out. Except they weren't remakes. They were the same stuff the staff had just been picking at with their bare fingers. So now it's crusty on the inside because it was recooked cut. And the pizza is charred on top. And the hostess... "what's wrong now?". Uhhh, wow. Hostess said she didn't know how to do a refund. I'm at negative stars at this point. So we called the number on the card she gave us that said it was for the owner. A few minutes later, the hostess came back and said she was on the phone with a manager trying to figure out how to do a refund. Incredibly disappointing experience and not what I'm used to here. It's going to be awhile before I'm ready to give this place another chance, this was not cool. They did finally say we've been refunded so we're going to leave the food (first time I can remember doing that in my life, but it's really that unfortunate) and go home. Hungry. We came with a few friends for drinks before dinner and it was great! Everyone was very friendly and they even give a Law Enforcement discount wich is great! So many beers and cider to try and even had some nonalcoholic drinks for the kids or pregnant peeps. They played great country music wich made for an awesome atmosphere. Unfortunately for Tacoma, Redd Dog restaurants aren't created equally. My family ate at the one in Puyallup a couple weeks ago, and it was amazing. However, we recently tried the one in Tacoma, ordered the same entrees, and it was a very different story. Our fish had been fried to a light black color, our fries were over salted, and our cheesy bread lacked cheese. We were pretty sad about this because after eating at the restaurant in Puyallup, we were really excited about trying the one in Tacoma closer to home. I doubt if we will return. read more

this establishment partnered with yelp for an elite event and we were able to come check the place out! we had so much fun!! we love the self-serve taps so much... our first experience with anything like this was a barcade in richmond, so we were thrilled to see the same concept here except with board games and table games! there was free popcorn and a juke box, but everyone was pretty invested in the game on the tvs :) my husband and i tried a few different ciders and sours with our pour cards, and they were all delicious. i liked the lucky envelope's raspberry sour, and the loganberry cider was also very tasty. the wings were crispy, the loaded tots were satisfying, and the quesadilla was alright (not great but not bad enough to detract from our experience). the only bummer is that it's dog-themed but not dog-friendly, because our pups would've loved to tag along. we'll definitely be back! read more

Fun place!! Only three stars due to lack of staff attentiveness and inability to modify food orders. But we had a great time!

We have been to The Redd Dog at least half a dozen times. We like the you-pour experience. However last night we went with friends who had not done you-pour before. They had questions and the two staff at the check in were really surprisingly rude. We would have left but several members of our group were already inside. The two staff were short tempered and caustic. In the past we have ordered food, tried a variety of dishes, and the food is below average - really basic. The reason we have gone back is because the you-pour is unique. However after last night, we won't go back again. There are plenty of restaurants and bars along Sixth Ave that offer a better experience -- from The Red Hot (great service and lots of beers/ciders on tap), to Beer Star with its great outdoor seating and huge tap list, so many others to patronize. This place is very cool and nice looking inside and, being a dog lover, I really LOVE the dog friendly vibe.  Would I return?  "Maybe" ... but if I did I would do the following - make sure I have cash beforehand and then, when ordering at my table, I would select "0 tip" (for sure) but then I would immediately walk over to the "server" and immediately tell them "just so you know we love to tip and we just tip in cash though at the end which you should appreciate."  (I think this is an important first step so hopefully that message is then passed to the cooks as well if you know what I mean.)  The concept of tipping, in my mind, is a customer's assessment of "the final result" at the end of their experience. I am not sure I would get their beer again because on three different taps, it was all foam.  I have been to college keg parties and am aware of the concept of tilting the glass and that absolutely did not improve the situation. 55 cents an ounce for foam?  Ugh. $8+ for an IPA is outrageous particularly since you have to get it on your own. For $16, my sandwich, though tasty, was small and underwhelming/expensive. At the end of everything I would probably tip like 7 percent or something merely for the fact that she brought our food to our table.  Everything else we did ourselves.  I wouldn't tip the checker at Winco when putting my own food into a cart and walking it to my car, nor would I tip a Taco Bell employee for saying "order 34" while I walk up to get my taco.  So - yeah.  Just being real! (Oh and just to put it out there - I normally tip 22-ish percent every time I ever dine at a full service establishment unless the service was beyond the realm of "bad.") So conflicted! This establishment does not market itself as a PIZZERIA, but rather a beer pub. When I did a Yelp search for pizza, The Redd Dog came up. Why not? I wanted to try something new in celebration for National Pizza Day. Let's talk about the positive first, the cutting edge service. A lovely hostess greeted me at the door, Helena and she gave me a tour of how the place worked. Folks who want beer are given a plastic card for swiping and they are charged per beer volume for whatever tap they get their pour from. Genius! They offer a 20% military discount on beer, but not on food. The food...I only ordered the pizza, but guess what? They were celebrating National Pizza Day:) yay! I ordered a pepperoni pizza and a regular cheese pizza. So it's pretty decent for bar pizza but not good enough to claim itself as a pizzeria, which they don't. The crust can use some work. It's flat, lifeless and might as well come from a safeway freezer. However, the sauce and cheese are pretty good. Please invite me and let me take a look at your process, I promise we can make your curse better. They do make their dough in house, which is impressive. also, they have a shuffle board and board games to play. P.S. The Redd Dog replaced the Pizza Press, which didn't last too long in Tacoma. Great taproom in Tacoma. I was reluctant about the beer by the ounce payment but after spending back to back days at The Redd Dog the price of a beer is similar to any of the other beer house in the area. What I like is you can pour yourself a 1oz sample, a flight, a half or a full pint. As you're pouring the beer, cider, seltzer or wine you can see the ounces and price which puts you in control of you spend. Beverage selection is good and rotates once the keg is blown. They have large group tables and some smaller tables to handle all size groups. They also have games, tiki toss and shuffleboard. Televisions are all over too so you won't miss any games you want to watch that day. The food looked very good, we had cheese bread which was hot and tasty. Going back for dinner soon to check out the eats. Note they do have free popcorn, nice touch. Staff was very helpful and friendly. They were knowledgeable of the menu and made the experience comfortable. We really like The Redd Dog as a new twist on tap room. Parking can be challenging in the area. read more

Love this concept and happy to have a you-pour taproom here in Tacoma. The staff were friendly and helpful and the beer selection was pretty decent. However, the food is just not good at all. The chicken used on both my salad and my friend's sandwich was clearly the fake processed chicken strips you can buy pre-cooked at Fred Meyer. Just awful. The lettuce was yellow and wilted, and what was advertised as "prosciutto" was just sliced deli ham. For the price, the quality was very sub par. Still giving this place 3 stars because the experience wasn't absolutely terrible, just the food. I will give this place another shot when I'm not hungry and just looking to enjoy a flight of random delicious beers. read more

This is such a fun place to eat & drink! They have lots of beers on tap and even have cider and wine if you're not a beer drinker. They also have lots of games you can play at your table!! The beers are super well priced, most of mine were under 5$ for a full pour. They also offer a flight option if you want to try a couple different beers. I found this place after visiting a self serve tap room in Littleton(Denver area), Colorado and googling. It was fun but was a bit disappointed with the selections. It might have been buzz from drinking beer at a mile high but Behind The Scenes Tap House in Colorado had triple the taps and movies on a jumbo screen outside. Fun for the whole family... but Redd Dog was nice and very much closer to home. read more

How do you have a dog themed tap room that isn't dog friendly? It seems bizarre to sell branded tennis balls, dog treats and bandanas like a pet store but not actually be friendly to non-service animals. I suppose the dog bed indoors is for entirely decorative purposes? We'd have loved to enjoy your tap room on the outdoor patio with our well behaved companion. Possible name change suggestions: "The No Dog","The Redd Dog-less","The Service Dog". You all might consider changing your branding to represent that while you like marketing to dog owners, you don't welcome them in your business. read more
