I have been wanting to try this place for awhile now. Well sadly it didn't live up to the hype. The pictures of the food and drinks look amazing but not so much. There is definitely nothing special about the food. It may look good but unfortunately it's not. We got the Mondo Pupu Platter, The Duke burger, Thai Chicken Tacos, steak tacos, and orange chicken. I was thinking the other day that I have never written a review for The Reef and was curious what their reviews looked like on Yelp because it's one of my very favorite places to eat or go out to on the weekends. I am shocked by the low ratings! So I had lunch there for the first time today rather than dinner and it was delish as usual. I LOVE to go to the Reef for a few different occasions: 1. It's in my top 5 places to have a delicious dinner in the Boise area. I have never had something that I didn't like, whether it's my favorite Ahi Poke salad (I dream about this salad and I don't even typically like salad), the Coconut Chicken or Shrimp, Nachos, or the Pupu platter. There's many choices for unique, tasty American-island food (I think that's what they're going for). Ahhh I just love it! 2. It's also a top choice for getting a group together for an evening celebration for a birthday or some other special occasion. There's plenty of seating inside or outside on the rooftop patio and I love the fun ambiance. 3. It's one of my favorite bars in Boise as well!! On the weekends they have awesome live music very often and the cover is just $5. They also make the BEST mojitos I have ever had, hands down. They have different flavor options as well as a pitcher option! I have tried many mojitos and no one tops the Reef's. They also have a list of fun drinks that come in big bowls or tiki glasses. A big draw for me in the summertime specifically is their roof-top tiki bar. It's the best atmosphere for a summer drinking spot. A little tip I would give is come at dinner time and stay for the live music, then you get out of paying a cover because I believe they start charging at 9. I just can't say enough good things about this place so I would definitely recommend this place for lunch, dinner, or going out to party! read more

I love the Reef, a lot, and don't get people that don't. With my sister in town, I had to take her to my favorite rooftop bar! (It was nearly 100° after all...) We arrived a little after 8pm, and were glad to find there was no cover fee yet. The roof was full, so we put ourselves on the list and grabbed a spot at the bar while we waited. Grabbed a few drinks from the sweet bartender, and then got called to our table before we even took a sip! The roof is always a little crazy, so don't be surprised to find the service a little slower than "normal" restaurants. Our waitress was super sweet and was working her butt off! We had a few rounds of drinks and split the large appetizer sampler. Then, of course, a suicide Barbie bowl! We had a great time. Food was great (the calamari steaks were bomb!) and the drinks were on point! Great place to enjoy a summer evening with friends, drinking or not. read more

Easy 5 stars. -LOVE the roof-top bar/seating! -The Bam Bam Mojito/made with 44 North Vodka- not too sweet, not too sour, but just perfect! - I had the grilled fish tacos- refreshing and delicious. My bf had the Hula Hula chicken sandwich- tasty. We also tried the coconut shrimp which came with a great dipping sauce. -Service was on point, our server was very nice and prompt. Not sure how this place gets bad reviews but everyone and every business has it's off days.. I was taken here last weekend for my birthday by some friends and had a blast! We had reservations, which appeared to be a good idea; 7:30 and the place was packed. Atmosphere is super cool. Well lit, good music but you can still hear your party. Service was good, could have been better but was good. All of my friends, who had all been before, ordered a version of the coconut chicken. I decided to stray and ordered the fish tacos - wish I had gotten the chicken. They weren't terrible but I guess growing up along the Oregon coast I just have a higher expectation. The sweet potato fries were delicious though and the aoili they're paired with was booomb! We shared a few pitchers of the coconut mojitos, sooo yummy! Then I had an effin cucumber mojito that honestly stole the show. I definitely plan to come back, maybe next time go for the coconut chicken (or shrimp!) read more

When we got here I had my heart set on steak and the menu says they don't serve until 4. But our nice waitress let me get the steak. But now I have to decide between Ribeye Net York or the filet mignon but they were all reasonably priced between $20-27 so not that bad. read more

I love the vibes of the reef usually but never in my life have I been to a restaurant where not one but two fist fights broke out! We were on the roof when a man started fighting his "friend". The whole group was mid 40's and very intoxicated! Everyone including staff just stood there and watched this go on for at least twenty minutes. Finally a manager came up but he seriously did nothing to stop the situation. Then a group of young men were egging on the fight and the wife of the man became verbally aggressive with them. Another young lady said "what are you gunna do"? The wife of the man from the group of drunks started wailing on this girl half her age. Still management didn't do a thing. The wife was body slammed by the young ladies boyfriend and then all parties were asked to leave. This group of drunks lingered around for another twenty to thirty minutes on the roof! Making everyone so uncomfortable! If it were anyone else cops would've been called and they'd be removed immediately. It was honestly the biggest shit show I've ever witnessed. Do better management! My friends and I will not be back! read more

It's been over 5 years since I had been to the Reef due to business travel, so was very excited to get their Jerk Chicken. I should have known when it wasn't even on the menu (they printed new laminated menus this spring and accidentally left it off). It was "maybe" available. Waiter pulled through and it was awful! The chicken, veggies and potatoes were swimming in an Asian sauce, heavy on ginger. NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THEIR FAMOUS JERK CHICKEN. I could barely choke it down. However, I have to give this place 2 stars because I saw something completely unacceptable as I was walking out. I was walking out around the same time as this other girl that I had seen getting drinks at the rooftop bar when I saw her get approached by one of Reef's managers. Somehow I caught that his name was Pat. This poor girl just clearly forgot to put her mask back on on her way out of Reef and this guy just completely berated her. He was moving his hands in a way you could obviously tell he was talking down on her, and his tone was unbelievably rude. She apologized profusely but that wasn't good enough. I felt so bad for her. She was a paying customer!! Totally unacceptable in my book. This was our first time for dinner. The wait staff was amazing from the moment we entered the establishment. Our waitress was on her 3rd day and obviously trained well. The roof dining makes this place nice to go to for dinner. The cocktails were good. The lighting wasn't working so it was difficult to see our food. Someone did come by and light the tiki torches. The steaks came with your choice of potatoes and vegetables. Everything tasted good. It's a nice place to go on a summer evening or at sunset. But the place to be is upstairs when the weather is nice. It's one of the few places in Boise w rooftop seating. I happen to enjoy their tacos above anything else on the menu. First, the food was good... in fact, it was excellent. However, the service was horrible. We had to track down a server any tome we needed something. We never received our salads before our meal. We did not get bacon on our bacon burgers. We never received refills on our drinks. On a side note, the restroom did not have a baby station. I changed her diaper with her standing on the counter. I have been coming to the Reef for a few years now, I love being able to sit outside in the wonderful atmosphere that they have. It is only open during the warmer days. The Drinks are amazing, and the food is pretty good too sometimes it does take longer to arrive to your table. The best thing about this place is the concerts! It does get pretty crowded and I do suggest getting there a little early for a table before the concert starts. read more

I went here for my 21 birthday and it was great! Call ahead and get a reservation we just showed up and had to wait 30 minutes for a table, but I didn't think that it was bad considering. They had live music which gave it a nice setting. Their volcano drink is amazing and their food is really good too. We had a party of 6 and we got our food pretty fast considering it was packed. One thing I noticed is they like to add spice to a lot of their food so if that's not something you like, I would make sure to ask them not to put spice on your food. read more

Drinks are good. The scorpion bowls can be a little too strong, but they require two people anyways so they're manageable. What is not manageable is the nachos. After being informed that a half order of Nachos was not possible I opted to go ahead and get a full order. Nothing could have prepared me for the mountain of excess I was about to receive. Still, I resolved to eat this exorbitant portion just as one would eat an elephant; one bite at a time and with plenty of queso. As hard as I tried, my resolve began to falter. The dish taunted me, my efforts had not yielded even a noticeable reduction in the sheer volume of chips and cheese. I began to have an anxiety attack as my mind ran through traumatic flashbacks from my childhood. I couldn't shake the vision of my mother scolding me in a McDonalds Playroom, letting me know my inability to finish my Happy Meal was disrespectful to the children around the world without Happy Meals of their own. This angst destroyed my appetite and made the already difficult task of finishing these nachos impossible. With my stomach fully engorged and the taste of shame on disgust in my mouth I admitted defeat. I surveyed the remains of the plate. I had only made it 50% of the way through the Nachos. read more

Don't trust the online reservations. I wanted to make reservations for a Sunday, and according to the online thing they were full. So I called just to make sure, and lo and behold they had space. We were the only people there, so we had the waiter all to ourselves. The food was amazing. And the drinks were good to. I had the Forbidden Nachos, which were huge but very good. He had Hula Hula Chicken, that he liked. The Reef is not wheelchair friendly so if you have an elderly grandmother you might have to carry her up the stairs. read more

Always a solid place for good fairly unique pub fare. The Reef roof is a great place to eat when the weather is clear (common) and not that hot in the summer. The jerk chicken is really good. Remember that the "novelty" drinks are NOT part of happy hour, though. Noisy enough that it isn't intimate, so if you want to have a real conversation you may want to look elsewhere. But totally fine to bring kids there since nobody will notice the racket your family makes. read more

My favorite restaurant in Boise, hands down. It's particularly great for gathering for happy hour on nice days because they have a fabulous rooftop patio. I love the ambience, food, and service has always been killer. I've never had anything bad there, but the grilled cheese satays are the best. It's golden Greek grilling cheese (like haloumi). If you've never had grilling cheese, oh, I'm so sorry for you. You are truly missing out on life. The mondo platters are also great for sharing and have a bit of everything. And the Mai Tais and mojitos rock. And they have happy hour prices - yessss. Always a win with me. Voodoo fries are great, lettuce wraps are a safe bet, and the fish tacos are divine. I go to the Reef for two reasons, #1 - their mojitos are terrific! You can even order a pitcher of mojitos to share, which I think is a great option. #2 - I love their Cobb salad with chicken. Always cooked and prepared to my liking. One time my friends salad was put together wrong and they apologized and quickly re-made the right way. On a different visit a friend ordered the lettuce wrap appetizer (expecting something similar to PF Changs, but it wasn't at all) and she could barely take one bite. The waitress gladly took it off the tab, which we appreciated. Despite those little things, I would still recommend Reef and will continue to be a patron! read more

Super friendly, amazing service, just the right amount of checking on us. Food was so good, drinks amazing. I love this place. Always have great food and great service. I asked for a comment card at the end of the night to let management know how much we enjoyed our dinner, and they said Yelp review was the way to go. The Reef has great food and great drinks, service is always very friendly. The rooftop bar is the place to be for summertime happy hour...but their nachos as delicious as they are are just too big. I have never seen any one person finish the nachos, and who likes leftover nachos the chips get soggy and frankly it's just gross! Its simple the Reef would go from 2.5 stars to 5 if they give the people what they want...half size nachos!! read more
