Service was terrible. Why have a bartender serve as your waiter when he doesn't know the specials and doesn't know anything you ask about what contains dairy, which my wife couldn't have? Took 20 minutes for him to find that out and in the meantime no water or anything. Then we order on an appetizer which we say we want as a starter - gets brought out same time as our meals. Great outdoor venue. Our party of 4 enjoyed the live music Friday afternoon. Food was presented beautifully. Chicken sandwich was on point and hamburger was cooked perfectly. However, I ordered the fish tacos based on the enticing picture online of the big pieces of fish. When I received the tacos, I was very disappointed to see the fish was merely flaked fish, as if it was served from a can. Where do I begin... this meal was honestly comical. Like it's possible we were being filmed as a prank at this point. I will say that the location is very ideal, but everything else was a total flop. Literally go to Applebees over here if you're looking for good food. Let me list everything that went wrong below. - someone's drink came out and was absolutely foul - Steak was supposed to be medium rare but came out medium well and the chef gaslight us to think they did cook it medium rare but it clearly was grey. - Repair steak came out and was totally rare and cold and looked like ahi tuna - manager Jake was as cold as the steak, avoidant and unapologetic - manager Jake offered to put it back on the grill once everyone had finished their meal - manager Jake laughed at the rare steak - why did the steak come with olive oil to drizzle on????? - service was horrible and took 45 minutes from sitting down to get drinks - appetizer never came out - someone ordered a salad with chicken and it came out with shrimp - lobster roll did not come with butter and it showed up on a burger bun - bathroom was flooding - bill came out wrong and charged us for the shrimp, not chicken and multiple drinks were charged wrong - salad had sorbet on it - manager Jake is clearly not ready for a manager role Nonetheless, I will say the espresso martini was phenomenal. I had reserved an igloo for myself and my girlfriends. It was an off an ad on Facebook. It took me right to a reservation site where I happily put my credit card in for the $100 hold for the igloo. I assumed this came off the bill at the end. It seemed it would be an amazing evening. Silly me. Being winter in RI, I wouldn't have expected warmer weather. One would believe the establishment would take this into account and be sure the igloos were properly heated. Unfortunately, that was not the case for us. We were freezing. The heater, which is placed above the door, at the ceiling, did nothing to warm the space. When sat, the man said "It's pumping and should heat this in a few minutes ". Ok.. that's acceptable. Never happened though. Our waitress, who was amazing, even commented that we have the coldest igloo of the bunch. Onto the food.. we ordered calamari and the brussel sprouts.. flavor was good but they were lukewarm. Calamari was not crispy at all. Overall, apps were so so.. my girlfriend ordered a hot coffee.. it was also lukewarm. At this point we are huddled in our jackets and blankets. Our noses are now running. Entrees.. 2 ladies ordered the filet specials.. one was cooked perfectly, the other was so rare (she ordered medium) that she couldn't eat it.. also, it was also lukewarm. I will say I had the braised short rib.. it was hot. Flavor was good. Another got the Italian flatbread, which she said was just ok. We are now running out of Kleenex. I was disappointed to see the bill. Admittedly, now that I've gone back online to their website, I see the $100 is NOT a deposit but a charge for the igloo. Little did I know we should've dressed like we were literally going to dine in an actual igloo.. all we were missing was snow and penguins. I am now sick with a cold. The igloo was very beautiful though. ‍ **edit added after restaurant response. Thank you for replying. After reading the managements response, there seems to be a misunderstanding. I am not upset about the $100 fee for the igloo. I had followed a link off of Facebook to reserve. Which sent me to open table. I did not understand that this was an extra fee. That was my misunderstanding. That seems to be mostly what the reply is about. What was unfortunate was the lack of heat which has now taken its toll on 2 of us who dined with you that evening. Also, we did complain to multiple people while dining. We were offered blankets. The heat in that igloo was nonexistent. Two of us came down with bad colds immediately following our experience. My fiancé and I ate here on the last day of our 4th of july vacation... it was great! We were seated soon after our arrival. Staff was courteous and prompt. We both had breezy cocktails to get our meal started... followed by juicy and fresh jumbo shrimp cocktails for apps. For the entré, I had hangar steak, medium rare, and she had steak tips, well done, both served with home style mash potatoes and grilled asparagus... deliciously cooked to perfection. They have both a great drink and dinner menu that covers both land lovers and sea food lovers! All this while we dined overlooking the marina and azure waters of the oceans that nestle the Newport coastline... all phenomenal dining experience and I'd recommend that anyone who vacations in Newport stop by here for lunch or dinner. read more

Dined here for lunch day before the Fourth of July - they had an abundance of outdoor seating right on the water overlooking parts of the marina. No physical menus but instead there was a QR code on the table that you scanned with your phone to access the menu - very cool, very sanitary in these current Covid conditions. Food came quick and was as ordered - for our food allergy party member, they removed the onions from a salad; for me, the burger was cooked to order. Excellent. One downside was a foreign particle in a water glass, but it appeared to be a piece of blue felt/fuzz as opposed to a bug. Not a huge deal. Also the parking signs say you need a ticket, but they told us they were not hanging tickets out currently for parking (likely due to COVID) so you can park in the lot without worry your car will disappear. read more

We came in to the restaurant this weekend - the only minor glitch was we had to wait 15 minutes past our reservation time. But, realistically - it's Memorial Day weekend in a summer resort town. So no big deal. And we had a large party of 10 so frankly it was great they could accommodate us anyway. The manager and host staff told us they were running late so we had a few drinks at the bar - fantastic views of the harbor - and we were seated inside as we asked for because the temp was dropping. We checked back in occasionally regarding the status of our table and appreciated the frank and honest feedback that it was a busy weekend and they were running a bit behind. Great live music. Great food - 10 types of oysters daily?! - and our server Julia was amazing. Try the Korean pork belly and Wagyu tartare - and order two of the crispy sesame rice tuna dish. Crazy good. We waited a bit for our entrees, but we were having fun and relaxing so who cares? Great experience. Our experience at "The Reef" was horrid at best. Upon arriving we were sat waterfront by our hostess. Within the first 5 minutes we experienced an aggressive amount of bugs flying around us (understandable for being sat outside by the water). When the bugs were starting to be too much to handle, we asked the hostess several times to be reseated indoors to no avail. The restaurant was not busy and there were a plethora of available tables. Thankfully our server Erica took matters into her own hands and executed what the manager should have and moved us indoors. The food was severely overpriced ($4 for one shrimp on a shrimp cocktail) and it took extremely long to receive our drinks. I would not recommend this restaurant to absolutely anyone. read more

I had never heard of this spot, but the location is amazing! It is right down one of the wharfs in Newport giving you some of the best views in Newport while enjoying your meal. The food is international meaning you will definitely find some interesting items on the menu. We absolutely loved the scallop ceviche and rings & things! You must try both of these. The place has a nice ambiance. The interior is beautiful. Fancy. Overall though, the experience was very disappointing. The food just wasn't that good. You'd expect it to be better, considering how the restaurant has a borderline swanky vibe, but the only thing 'swanky' about it is the price you pay for the food. Except in this case though, you don't get what you pay for. The food has an almost "Applebees-like" quality to it. I ordered a spaghetti dish that would not separate into individual strands. It looked like it had been sitting in hot/boiling water a long time and was barely stirred. The spaghetti was clumped together on my plate, so I couldn't twirl it on my fork like one normally would. Instead, I had to spear a giant blob of starch-fused spaghetti with my fork and eat it like a cave man. And it was mushy and gummy - definitely overcooked. My friends split a steak that looked quite fatty and gristly to me. We also ordered the charcuterie board that looks like something you could find at any supermarket. Given the price we paid for it, it was pretty underwhelming. The WATER - don't get me started. First glass of water was fine, but the waiter came back and refilled our glasses and the water smelled and tasted awful! It smelled like pond water. I can only guess that I had filtered or bottled water the first time, and the second time perhaps it came from the tap. That's my guess, but I don't know for sure. The taste was completely different after the refill from my first glass of water. It was horrid. And finally, the evening that we ate, it was freezing outside. The temps were in the teens, with a windchill in the single digits. I was disappointed with the management at this restaurant that they sent their servers outside to wait on restaurant guests seated outdoors in the pods in frigid weather. It must have been awful for the servers. There was ice everywhere. I myself slipped twice walking from my car to the restaurant. The servers had to walk across that ice coated blacktop carrying food and drinks outside to the plastic pods where some restaurant guests were seated. Why management thought this was a good idea is beyond me. IMO, it's cruel to the servers to put them through that and it's a TDI payment waiting to happen. I also had to wonder what was up with customers themselves that they would choose to eat outside on a frigid night. In conclusion, don't go here unless you're just stopping by for some drinks with friends. You're paying for the atmosphere and the ambiance, but there's much better food to be had elsewhere in Newport. read more

Three friends and I dined on 12/10 for lunch in one of the comfy igloos outside. Lisa-Ann was our rockstar server. She was awesome! She guided us to a great decision to order the Prix Fixe, which gave us two bottles of wine (we only drank one, took one along with us) with our meals. The chowder was incredible. My sapporo salmon was absolutely amazing. Salmon was crisp on the outside with med/rare inside, and the broth and vegetables were really memorable. We were almost too full to have dessert, but the sorbet was perfect. Truly, the thing that made it memorable was Lisa-Ann. She showed us how to connect our phone to the little speaker in our "igloo" - temperature was perfect. She took our picture and made sure we loved at least one of the shots she got. The glass doors were open so we did have that outside feeling. I'm not sure if the hostess was overwhelmed( it was busy) or just an air head. My husband and I were on vacation with two other couples and we all decided this was our new favorite bar/ restaurant in Newport.
