It's a great place to pick up a sandwich and soup. I had a sandwich with a huge piece of melted cheese, roast beef and slices of deep fried potatoes. It was different and pretty greasy. I've been driving past the Rendezvous Grill for years without ever stopping. It took a visit from my uncle, who was renting a cabin in Rhododendron, to bring this place to my attention. He is a self-professed foodie, so when he told me how good the place was, I was game to try it. My uncle's a smart guy. The decor is nice but not overly assuming; think white linen tablecloths and strands of twinkly lights, plus an outdoor patio area. I felt slightly underdressed in shorts and a t-shirt, but this is hardly a jacket-and-tie establishment, and nobody in there raised an eyebrow over my attire. Good, because this was one of those 90-degree Portland days (which meant low 80s up by the mountain). We were seated at a corner table, and service throughout the evening was friendly and efficient. Appetizers were ordered and shared amongst our group of 5; because they focus on local, natural, and seasonal foods, these included an earthy plate of chanterelle mushrooms drizzled with olive oil and served over toast, and heirloom tomatoes with balsamic vinegar. Both were fresh and tasty. We also enjoyed cups of smoked salmon chowder. For our entrees, three of us chose salmon. I opted for the char-grilled wild sockeye salmon, served atop a hash of yukon gold potatoes, caramelized shallots, and artichokes. The salmon was tender and flaky and seasoned expertly. I liked the textural and flavor contrast provided by the hash, but thought the portion was a little skimpy. The salmon was fine - I just wanted more of that great hash to accompany it! Not that anybody left hungry, with all the food we enjoyed. My wife is a little less enthusiastic about fish, and ordered a roasted pork loin sandwich. It came on a ciabbata roll and was served with cheddar cheese and a tomato chutney. She raved over this, and after trying a bite, I had to agree with her assessment. The pork was tender and smoky, and that chutney was bright, acidic, and packed with flavor. Great combination! My teenage daughter ordered a burger and fries. She was not super thrilled with the burger, but I suspect this is because it was made with natural, grass-fed beef. She's not used to real, unprocessed food like that! All in all, we had a great dining experience here. Prices were reasonable, and there is a good wine list. Service is great. One thing's for sure: I won't pass by here without stopping in the future! read more

Took a short trip to Welches for a little R & R and discovered this gem. Could not believe this restaurant could exist in this tiny town! The staff is knowledgable, efficient, and super friendly without being intrusive. Servers Brian, Jenny, and Amy made our dinner even better. The escargot, oysters, and catch of the day (salmon) were super fresh and tasty. Some of the best food I've ever had. In fact it was so good, I went back for lunch the next day before heading out of town! Our waitserver was Stephanie and she was first class. I will make a special trip to this area just to eat here. Great new find on our way to Bend. A little hidden from the road, but does offer patio seating with a little road noise. The food is great! Different twists on familiar offerings such as a quinoa burger on a brioche bun, but the regular burger was cooked perfectly and had loads of flavor. read more

Had dinner here on St Pat's day. Everything was great. Servers were adults who were friendly and focused on their customers. Dinner was excellent and well under $20. This is not your place if you just want a cheap burger and fries. But a great choice for real food at a decent price. read more

My husband and I recently moved to the area and were looking for good, clean, well prepared food. After reading multiple reviews we decided on The Rendezvous Grill for a late lunch. I had the mixed greens and fried oysters and my husband had the Reuben sandwich. Each of our dishes was absolutely delicious. Just the perfect mix of flavors and portion sizes, nothing overpowering and no overly large portions. The decor was a little outdated and the dining area is pretty small, but we we there for the food so it didn't really matter. We will definitely be back. read more

As for the person who called the local raised grass fed beef burger a "stamped frozen patty" and called it a menu bait and switch you are crazy this is by far our favorite place to go and the food and service is local and top notch we have easily been there over 20 times. This place is perfect if you are in the mountains and want a great meal in a really cozy place. The menu is surprisingly sophisticated with chef-y dishes and fresh ingredients. We had escargot and mussels apps, then salads that came w/ the dinner. Filet mignon, salmon, duck and pork dishes all really good. We went with two grandkids, and had a blast. The food was great (we brought some extra salad dressing and desert home!), the service was exemplary and the kids had crayons and a coloring book. We were at a local event and wanted to eat someplace close. I found Rendezvous on Yelp and was like "Lets try it." The minute we walked in the door the service was phenomenal! It was one of those places you step into and go OH YEAH, this is a great place. We decided to sit at the bar to eat. Lora was awesome, took great care of us and just enhanced the whole evening. They were very accommodating on the dishes too since my hubby is a vegetarian. I had the new york and it was cooked to perfection. We never eat dessert but had to sample what they had. I was visiting friends in ZigZag, and decided to eat at the Rendezvous Grill. I had the filet, as did my husband. My son had the Ribeye. Everything was delicious, and somewhat unexpected, since the location is a bit far, We had a very nice bottle of white wine that our server recommended, and we shared a freshly made berry dessert, warm from the oven. Yum Yum. Our server was amazing. She made us feel like we were the only ones in the restaurant. If ever back in ZigZag or Welches, I will definitely go back and I would recommend it to anyone on their way to or from Mt. Hood. read more

We've been stopping here for years whenever we are returning to Portland from the Mountain. The food has always been tremendous and they have a nice wine/beer selection. It is a nice touch that they'll mix the lettuce at your table. The tap room is cozy and I would recommend it over the restaurant itself as the restaurant can get a little cold. read more

We really enjoy this place. It is a must visit when we go snowshoeing up on MT Hood. My sweetie always has the Salmon, served on a real sexy salad with a sauce that we buy by the quart and take home. I have tried many dishes and everytime it is spot on, fresh, hot and made from quality ingredients. The service is great and I wish more waiters and waitress were trained as well as at the Rendezvous Grill. Great wine selection, bar next door has lots to offer. The chef is a prodessional and it shows in her food. This is not a place with some random cooks in the back, she came out and checked in on us. The owners have really made every effort to make sure their restaurant is first class. Ohmygoodness. After a harrowing stay at the Resort at the Mountain across the street we really really needed this meal! So good. All together we tried the calamari with lemon sauce, beet and kale salad, Shanghai shrimp, burger and a couple of cocktails. The calamari was good, the salad was great, the shrimp were perfectly cooked, and the sauce it was in was just the right amount of sweet and spicy and the veggies were crisp and refreshing. My burger hit the spot (with Tillamook cheese, pickled onions) and the fries that came with it were amazing (thin and crispy). I'm getting hungry just thinking about it... read more

We ate at the Rendevous four times this week and every meal was excellent. I cannot believe my boys loved oysters, but the fried Willapa Bay oysters impressed them and are now their favorite.
