Rendezvous is one of two restaurants in the world that I've ever given a perfect rating. My wife and I flew into Portland just a few months after The Vous opened. We chatted with the UAL stewardesses about our destination on Mt Hood (we'd been summer residents for many years before). They highly recommended The Vous for our special dinner that night. We fell in love with owners Tom & Susie and Katherine, and the food was so good we made The Vous a weekly regular for the next 28 years. We've had nearly everything on the menu over the years, and enthusiastically recommend it all. Start with a nice bottle of wine, fried calamari, fabulously-original soup du jour, and one of the most delectable entrees on the menu or daily specials. I'm surprised I haven't written about the Vous before now. My lovely wife and I go regularly. The staff are wonderful, kind folk. The food is always wonderful. The sweet potato fries app is devine. I usually get one, or two, of the specials. When it's nice, the patio is outstanding. Be sure to leave some room for desert - which is sometimes 55% of the reason we head up to the Vous. read more

We finally made it back this year for Father's day lunch with my husband, son and his wife. We had talked the place up to the new daughter-in-law and ended up having one of the worst service events in history of eating out. Well, maybe not THE worst, but pretty close. It was lunch service, not the packed to the gills dinner service, where dad eats free after 4pm. My husband had to catch a flight, so we were stuck with the lunch menu, which was limited in choices. It had mostly seafood on it, and as we were seated, the waitress told us they were out of almost all the fish dishes. I wasn't sure what would be left then. We waited forever for the drink order to be taken and we put the appetizer order in at the same time, for the Mediterranean plate. It took 30 minutes to get it. From the time we were seated at 1pm, it took until 2:40pm to get our actual dinners. Bayley and I,ordered the same grilled halibut dish, only I left the rice off of mine. The waitress brought her plate out at 2:15 and then my plate at 2:25 with the rice and missing the greens, so back it went before I even said anything. She sat there the entire time waiting for the rest of us. My plate came back and it was still another ten minutes before my husband's plate came out. I can honestly say, out of the millions of times eating out, this is the first time I have ever experienced that kind of time warp of getting our plates at the same time. When it did come back I noticed my fish was half the size of hers, very small piece for $19. I told my husband it looked like I split my order with another table, since when I ordered, the waitress told us we were getting the last two orders in the house. I can tell you the times, since we were seated by the kitchen and could see the microwave clock on the wall. The seafood medley on top of my fish was pretty good, and the fish was okay. There was one other table seated behind us and two tables outside, so it wasn't like they were overwhelmed. The waitress seemed very flustered and not too friendly, right up until it was check time ($135 for four people, no alcohol involved and only 3 ice teas) and suddenly she was really nice and patting my son on the shoulder and asking me where I was from because I had a southern accent. I told my husband she whipped out all the checklist items in waitressing 101 to get a good tip. I was so over it by that point. The owner is a really nice guy and I can't bring it to a one star for that reason, but I just can't get past the service quality either. I don't even want to go back. We had lunch in there not too long ago, and it was slow then too, and we were the only ones in there. We never get bogged down and whine and complain while we are eating out, even when it is glaringly obvious service is not up to par. We enjoy each other's company and then I come home and yelp it. So, that said, my husband did like salmon he got. My son ordered the bratwurst plate and it was one small bratwurst and straw french fries for $15. For $15 there should have been two bratwurst I think, as did his wife. He came home and ate a sandwich, which I didn't blame him, since his plate was so sparse. read more

If you're driving through Welches and hell-bent on getting back to Portland without stopping - wait, you may be missing something worth the stop over. The Rendezvous Grill is a gem of a place in a nondescript town (no offense intended to the hamlet of Welches). We've been a few times of the years and every time we visit - the place surpasses my expectations. Yes, the decor is underwhelming and the general tenor of the place is no where near a high-end foodie sort of joint, but precisely because of these things - it rocks! The food, from the understated starters (think German mountain dishes with a bit of Pacific Northwest flare) to the great proteins (they make a mean pan seared steak) is all delicious. And, they have a very nice cellar of local (Washington and Oregon) wines. The chef is doing something right and I bet this is no easy feat in a place like Welches where he is constantly competing for people's attention as they drive along on Highway 26. Heck, the litmus for the success of The Rendezvous Grill is their packed dining room; and they were packed on the night we last dined. It is well worth a visit for sure. read more

The quinoa burger was A-mazing!! Probably the best veggie burger!! My husband got the New England clam chowder and said it was really good!! They serve roasted garlic bread prior to your meal. Beer list was small but had a good variety of choices. The dessert was delicious. We had a gluten free almond chocolate brownie and it 2 was really good!! We'll definately be back!! read more

Nice patio atmosphere, promptly served. Nice laid back staff. Good for a day after a big hike. We both ordered salads. Caesar and a house green. Very good. Fresh and creative ingredients such as fried capers on the Caesar. Next came rigatoni with spinach, mushrooms and smoked chicken in a cream sauce. This needed a little more flavor but still good. We had something that was like tempura asparagus which was lovely and a fondue plate. Cocktails were also wonderful. Once you step foot in this place you can tell that it must be a family run business. Everyone was so kind and welcoming. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Nice soft music playing as you browse the menu or enjoy your meal. There is a limited menu, but what they did offer all looked good. I had a salad and the steak bites, both were very tasty. I liked how they would walk around with a tray of their beautiful desserts. We normally are too stuffed to get dessert when we go out. Had one of the best salmon dinners ever there! Husband had mushroom raviolis and thought they were very good! As always delicious food great service and delicious desserts! I'm a little upset because I went back the other night to have my poached apple cider salmon and they had taken it off the menu and I order it every other week when I go there. Everything we tried was delicious. We tried the Raclette appetizer... served cheesy and hot. Perfect for sharing. We shared a giant juicy burger with Gorgonzola & bacon, sweet potato fries. Their regular fries are also thin and crunchy, served with rosemary. We shared the salmon salad... All was mouth-watering goodness. We will be back to try more!! We stumbled across the rendezvous grill on yelp, and after reading all the rave reviews we decided to try it. I am so happy we did! The location is easy to find and parking is very easy to find as well. The minute we walked through the doors the staff was friendly, welcoming and they made you feel like they actually care. Our waitress was very personable and on top of everything. We ordered two appetizers, I ordered the sweet potato fries and my husband ordered the soup of the day which was a bean and corn chowder. Both were delicious!! I highly recommend either of these two. You also get bread and butter while you wait for your meals. For our entrees I ordered the local grass fed ranch burger and it was amazing! Great combination of flavors, and it was very filling. My husband ordered the special, which was the crab cakes with jasmine rice and veggies. He loved it!! He didn't leave a single scrap on the plate. We were too full for dessert, but we did take home a New York cheesecake which I am sure will be just as delicious as the rest of the food was! The portions are a good size, both my husband and I were full from our meals. In my opinion the pricing matches the quality and quantity of the food, so no complaints there. Everything from start to finish at the Vous was excellent. Everyone on the crew that we encountered there was kind and knowledgeable, which is saying a lot considering their vast wine list. All the states, and main entrees were cooked to perfection with unique and interesting flavors. We had a wonderful dinner on the back patio. Hubby had the Ling Cod cooked in Crazy Water and I had the rigatone with smoked chicken with spinach, hazelnuts, and dried cranberries. We both had the Tom yum soup a Thai vegetable sweet and sour cup of deliciousness. You could smell the lemongrass as soon as the cup was placed before you. We ordered the lemon tart with huckleberry sauce and topped with blueberries. This was one of the best dinners ever. Service was very good. Service staff definitely aim to please without being overbearing. The back patio has five tables and was nice and quiet. There is a front patio close to Hwy 26 and inside seating in the bar area as well as the grill. This is a definite gem. read more

Really nice spot on the mountain. The people are incredibly nice and attentive. The food was really good too but maybe a little bland - nothing some salt and pepper couldn't fix. The place itself is really well maintained and warm. Lots of dinning choices in the area but this one seems to have good and healthier alternatives then many of the others. read more

It was a beautiful day so I was delighted that there was outdoor seating. I got the rigatoni and it was delicious. It's so interesting how they combined a champagne sauce with nuts and cranberries (never thought to add this in pasta ). We also got the soup of the day which was New England clam chowder in a bowl. Was NOT expecting such a huge bowl but it was more than enough for a family of 3 to share. The calamari was also really crispy and flavorful. Steak was just normal steak. Nothing special. But still good. It was so difficult finding a restaurant around this area since there wasn't much around, but we found this from the amazing reviews on yelp and it did not disappoint!! read more

Well this is a review on customer service since I didn't get a chance to eat dinner here. When we arrived there seemed to be plenty of room. We were not aware that reservations were required. The older fellow I assume the owner greeted us and said what's the name on the res? I told him I didn't know it was required. Was looking for a quick and easy lunch while we were in the Mt. Hood area. After doing a quick google search we found ourselves here. Admittedly, we walked across the street into the little Mexican restaurant first for the sole reason we figured it'd be slightly easier on the wallet. We saw some other patrons plate of food and walked out, let's just leave it at that. Back to Rendezvous Grill: Thankfully, it was beautiful outside, allowing us to sit on the patio which made us feel more comfortable in our ball caps. The lunch menu was small but filled with some unique options. Fish and chips made with salmon caught my eye, but was not enticing enough to out duel the pork loin sandwich; Especially after the waitress talked about it like it was fit to be served to Gordon Ramsay. We both ordered that with the side salad which ended up being a great choice as the sandwich was very filling. The bread for the sandwich was perfectly soft with a nice outer crust. The pork loin was stacked just high enough without being too much to wrap your mouth around. The tomato chutney was the star that really made this sandwich stand out giving it a fantastic sweetness that married well with the saltiness of the melted cheese. Fantastic sandwich. The salad was great as it came with dried cranberries and sunflower seeds overtop spinach accompanied by perfect amount of dressing. Our server was knowledgeable and extremely peppy. Stopped at the Rendezvous Grill tonight for a late anniversary dinner with my wife. We were seated outside, which was great as the weather was gorgeous and the ambiance seemed intimate. The gentleman who showed us to a table was very pleasant. Seconds after sitting down a young, dark haired waitress approached us and asked if we knew what we would like to start. I would like to give her credit for being prompt but we had not yet touched the menus or drawn a breath. She explained that the offerings on the small menu were created from local, fresh ingredients and left us for a minute to decide. The whole encounter dripped with pretentiousness. It made me fairly uncomfortable for the rest of our meal. Also, she spilled my cocktail on our table and later bumped into the table without even an excuse me. We chose duck kabobs from the seasonal menu to start and let me go ahead and say right now that they were one of the best things I have ever eaten! Juicy, tender, generous chunks of perfectly cooked duck breast; grilled with peppers, squash, zucchini, and even a piece of carrot! All well seasoned and maybe marinated and slightly charred and out of this world! Oh, and $14 for the two little kabobs.... Then came our entrees and the fun stopped. My wife had ordered apricot duck breast from the standard menu and I chose tri-tip from the seasonal. I can't speak to her meal, but mine she was super disappointed. Mine was crap. A $3 piece of grocery store sirloin, pre-sliced (with the grain), and covered with a mediocre salsa for $27. Some roasted baby potatoes and way-too-sweet-for-the-dish puréed sun choke rounded it out. The steak was flavorless and lacked charring from the grill or caramelization from a pan. Like someone took a cheap cut of beef and cooked it at too low a temp. The entree, like the waitress, was an exercise in pretension and utterly failed to impress. I wish that I could eat those duck kabobs again but they are not worth going back for. Without them, it would have been a 1 star experience. $75 with only one drink. Then, because the liberals have engrained me with 40 years of guilt about my white privilege, I left too big a tip. Anyway, I don't recommend this place and won't be back. read more

We got greeted right at the door at about 6:50 (they close at 8 but we were planning to be in and out as we were all pretty hungry from a hike and we took about 5-10 minutes to eat our entrees lol) we were seated, given menus, and given water very quickly. Our server didn't come by until about 15 minutes after. We placed our orders and appetizer and were given bread and butter. it took about 40 minutes to get our food after placing the order (the food was really good! but the wait was just too long for two burgers and pasta imo). before the food came out i believe there was a miscommunication in the kitchen and a different server asked us for our desserts and we ordered them thinking they wanted to go quickly since they were close to closing but they ended up bringing them out before the entrees which was fine as she realized this after and brought them back to stay cold. The server who took our desserts was super nice but our actual server came to our table once to take our orders, not once through the entire dessert ordeal and while we waited a long time for the food, and twice after the food was brought out. she seemed nice when she was around and maybe she wasn't having the best day or it was too close to closing when we came in so i'm not really mad about it. would recommend for the food and desserts and most of the staff seemed really attentive, quick, and nice except the one who was our actual server. read more

Nice upscale restaurant in the area. We came here for dinner after seeing not so stellar reviews of the restaurants at our resort we were staying at. The food was good. I had the duck breast with kimchee fried rice and wife had the steak. I was surprised at the size of the steak. It was a big steak for only $29. Duck was great and fried rice was awesome with the spiciness of the kimchee. Really interesting menu that is executed well. Decor doesn't really match the higher end feel of the food but that just means you can forgo the collared shirt if you want. read more

I love the Rendezvous!!! This restaurant has been amazing for 20+ years. The menu is amazing!! The quality of the service is top notch; quality of food and drink is top notch; surroundings beautiful and clean. I had Copper River salmon and it was cooked to perfection. My husband had the smoked chicken rigatoni -amazing. The owner is right there working with his staff and with customers. I was excited to order the salmon and chips. However,The Cooking oil was old and dirty and gross. (I used to work as a cook deep frying seafood food) As a result the salmon tasted horrible and left a bad taste in my mouth. The waitress never checked back with me after delivering the food (well about 10 minutes later) so I was really able to comment on it and perhaps negotiate a replacement dish. I was the only one in the restaurant so there's no excuse for this kind of poor service. I substituted a salad for the fries, thankfully. It was OK but for $3.50 it wasn't worth it. I've eaten here before and I'm really disappointed and I'm probably not gonna come back. Note to servers, always check back after delivering the food no sooner than 1.5 minutes and no longer than three minutes. That's when people know if there's a problem or if they forgot to order something, etc. read more

Do yourself a favor and check this place out. The food was amazing and so was the service. It might be a little outside of Gresham and sandy but the drive was quite pleasant. 3.5 stars because the food was so good. First, the food here was fantastic. We had the gator bites, Tillamook burger, and salmon fish and chips. The gator bites came with a great dipping sauce that stole the show, black garlic and lemon aioli I believe. My wife enjoyed her burger and said the pickled onions were a nice touch. The fish was crispy on all sides and was not overcooked, both problems most fish and chips have. The only, minor, complaint with the food was that the fish was a bit under salted. My wife had the raspberry lemonade mixed drink, which she said was quite good. We both had the coconut cream pie for dessert, which was fine, but I found a broken wooden dowel in mine that I'm not sure how got there. The reason stars were removed was the service. My wife and I are in our mid-late twenties and had come here for our aniversery expecting to spend a bit more than usual because of the celebration. However, we were treated as if we were out of place and didn't have the money to eat there. Our waitress didn't ask if we wanted an appetizer, removed the drink menu right after our order (we had planned on getting multiple drinks because it was a celebration), and asked if we wanted our check before seeing if we wanted to order dessert. The culmination of these things seemed to indicate that she thought we were out of place in a nice restaurant because of our age and supposed ability to afford eating there. We got dessert to go, which is why I didn't send my dowl laden pie back, because of this. This is not the first time we've had this type of experience at a nice restaurant on our anniversary, which sucks, but we didn't let it ruin our night. It just reduced our bill, time, and the tip left at the restaurant. read more

Ordered to go tonight and all the food was devine as usual!! Calamari is always my favorite love that sauce. Salmon fettuccine and rueben we're on point. While I write I'm enjoying my creme brulee so delicious. When I grabbed my food I told them it was our anniversary and they gave us a mini bottle of sparkling rose, so kind and thoughtful.
