Simplicity at its best. I'm tired of these instagrammable breakfast spots. Honestly, going back to the basics of having: eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns will do its justice. The Reyn just brought that. Breakfast was fairly cheap, and there was probably a 5 minute wait at the most. The ambiance gave that Denny's feel but non commercialized, if that makes sense. My husband and I found this restaurant a long time ago. Still affordable even with the rising prices of everything. Their banana bread is delicious. We take some home every time. Service is fast, feels rushed but it's attentive. The food is plentiful and good. There's plenty of parking in the back and front. Best time to come is before 10am. Took one star off because I brought a friend I hadn't seen I a long time for breakfast and as soon as we ate our food we got kicked out of the table. The waitress said they had to " get their money while they can" I thought that was rude. They also kept hovering around the whole time we ate. I am really glad that this cafe has made it through the pandemic. They're a great place for brunch or breakfast, with their banana bread being an absolute delight. They have reduced the amount of people they have inside, but are still just as busy as ever. I usually get the Reyn special (2 eggs any style, 2 bacon or sausage, hash browns and toast or their amazing banana bread). You just can't go wrong with a meal like that. As local and neighborhood as it gets. Long-time patrons and families pack this small coffee shop. There's the screaming child who would not be calmed, the older gentleman customer holding court at a table. Pretty much the entire staff came over to greet him. Breakfast omelettes were okay but painfully slow to arrive. Mine had bacon, swiss cheese and avocado slices. Also got a bowl of cubed, not-quite-ripe fruit including honey-dew and cantaloupe. My friend's vegetable omelette had a side of fried house potato. Both came with choice of toast or their specialty, banana bread. We opted for the banana bread-- light, springy, warm out of the oven. My friend enjoyed it so much she bought a loaf. Though not a destination eatery, The Reyn feels like an authentic piece of the community, where residents know they can always go for standard breakfast and lunch fare. read more

After hearing that the wait at Russell's was 45min-1hour, we decided to avoid the rain by coming to The Reyn. (ha... ha.. ha...) We arrived at 9am on Saturday morning and luckily, we got seated immediately but soon after we ordered, we saw a bunch of people waiting outside! Service was quick and friendly and the food came out surprisingly quick considering how busy they were. I had a specific craving for Country Fried Steak so I went with that, more specifically, the Chicken Fried Steak. I'm not sure of the difference besides a different gravy on top. This one had a white gravy. It also came with 2 eggs, hash brown/potatoes o'brien, and a side of toast. Everything was really good! The fried steak was super crispy and the gravy was pretty good. Potatoes O'brien were good but not amazing. I like my potatoes o'brien slighly crispy and with green peppers as well but those were an extra $.80. Why is this place popular? The two eggs, hash brown, bacon and sour dough breakfast with coffee is $12.50. The coffee is charged at $2.50. This is a basic breakfast not a gourmet meal. The same breakfast is just under $6.00 at Tom's on Walnut less than 1/2 mile away Monday through Friday. You can get a really good beakfast for about the same at The Pantry in DTLA if you don't mind the drive from Pasadena. I can not see why The Reyn has a line to get in on weekends and was busy on a weekday at 9. Maybe there are other things on the menu people come here for but for a basic breakfast, it is not worth the money or the wait. Despite having 5 or 6 servers in this small space, service was uneven as regards delays to get food. Some people had theirs in 2 or 3 minutes from ordering others closer to 10 minutes. How have I lived by this place/drove passed this place for over 3 years and have not gone inside until a couple of weeks ago? Geez Ayumi..get it together. I guess the outside of the place doesn't look very presentable, but it sure gets a lot of customers! Bf and I wanted to come to this place about 2-3 months back, but we saw a huge line of people and did a huge U-turn and went to another spot lol. We decided to give it another go, and we got there just in time! Our wait was less than 10 minutes, and we luckily got a table. (Over the counter)..but it was PACKED. We had a great waitress and she got me some coffee right away. I ordered their special pumpkin pancakes that came with 2 slices of bacon and choice of eggs, and bf got the Ortega special omelette. The omelette comes with a choice of side, and my bf chose their banana bread. (Which they're known for.) I was really debating between regular pancakes, but my bf as well as waitress insisted on me getting their pumpkin pancakes. They were..good. Not amazing, but good. I felt that it wasn't cooked all the way as they were still a little dough-y ish tasting. But it definitely had a good pumpkin flavor. Wouldn't order it again, though. Bf's omelette was good, too. The chili didn't look like chili at all. It looked like orange salsa lol. But, he really enjoyed his meal. Banana bread was very meh to me. The decor of the place is silly. Silly/funny. Food experience: The food was lacking. We ordered waffles, pancakes, eggs and sausage. Everything was semi-warm, as if it was pre-cooked, and then our food came literally 2 minutes after we ordered it, which gives me more reason to think it was already cooked. The waffles had a giant amount of berries added, we had to eat around it because it was drenched. Experience: One of the worst. We had our baby with us and they sat us on a table with no room for him, then they made someone else who was already being served, switch tables with us, I felt so bad! looking around you could tell they had no organization when sitting people, there were huge tables with only one or two people and then small tables with a family of 6 barely fitting. Then when we got the bill and went to go pay, they charged our card once, said it got declined (wrong) and asked for another card. when we provided another card, the charged that one too. Once we realized we were charged 2 times, and showed the manager, he refused to provide a refund for one of the cards! said it was not his fault and he didn't see that charge on the report. We had to call our bank to file a dispute because he refused to give us our money back for one of the charges. Safe to say we are never coming back. I do not recommend at all! read more

Horrible experience- we were excited to try it out since we just moved into the area. However- the coffee was absolutely gross- brown water. The food was ok. But it was the rules that make no sense that forced me to write this review. We were a party of 7 and they clarified we all had to be there to get seated. My husband had to run to the store and so he asked me to order a burrito to go, which I did. By the time our food came he was actually back so he sat with us and his to go burrito had just arrived along with the rest of our food. He asked the waiter for an orange juice and that's when he explained the "rules" of not allowing a person to join the party- even though his food was there and his chair was there. He told us he was going to make an "exception" since they were not that busy. It was the way in which he said it that upset us. My husband was in the original party of 7, his food had been ordered, and there was a place for him at our table- no inconvenience to anyone! Oh- my mom's order was wrong and she got her food AFTER everyone else was done eating their food. My husband was so upset he left and didn't eat there. Once we paid I asked to speak to the manager. Apparently he had already heard about the incident because he was very defensive. As a manager he needs to learn to be professional but he obviously lacks true leadership and customer service skills. We just moved into the neighborhood and unfortunately will never go back to this horrible place. read more

Free easy parking in the back or on the street. The Rein is a Pasadena classic that was remodeled in the last few years. It has the feel of yesteryear in a modern day setting. read more

I'm going to go on record and say that The Reyn has the best waffles I've ever tasted. I'm not even a waffle person, I'm more of a pancake person, but I do not know how in the world they make these waffles so fluffy! We also ordered the cactus scramble and the Reyn Rancheros, which were both great and included a delicious slice of banana bread...but they all paled in comparison to the waffles! The Reyn Rancheros have potatoes on the bottom instead of tortilla chips, they were good, but I think I would have preferred the traditional tortilla chips. The service was also excellent. This restaurant is not very big, and it gets packed, so that is something to be mindful of when you go. Also, they close at 2pm everyday. read more

I've been here twice now. Nice little neighborhood diner type place. I've only had the corned beef hash (my personal favorite breakfast). I have yet to try their infamous banana bread. Prices are super affordable and service is always pleasant. It's always been packed inside and I've come at random times during the week. Would definitely recommend. read more

I've been coming here for years. We had a party of 3. We ate our food. We had a friend contact us who was in the area. We said to join us. He arrived and asked for a menu and was told that since we had finished, he would not be served. I understand if the place was packed and there was a long wait of people waiting. But, there wasn't anyone waiting and it wasn't busy at all. It was just a flat-out refusal of service for no reason. We have had people join us later many times before, and it was never an issue. Now, today, after several years of coming, I will not be back. And I will discourage all of my friends who usually join me to do so. The abhorrent way you treated patrons with disabilities and then the owner, Israel, chews out a female in our party because one extra person joined us last minute (when there was more than enough seating at the table). Even with my boot, with a 40 minute wait I politely asked for a chair to wait outside and never received one. (when he seated a party of 2 at a corner booth that would've accommodated us and our friend in a wheelchair). In today's day and age, don't let the ego of a line out the door fool you into thinking you can treat guests with disabilities like a nuisance and then try to intimidate a female because one extra paying patron joined our table. Maybe if more people boycotted your restaurant you'll learn how to treat EVERYONE with respect. A cozy little neighborhood brunch spot, the Reyn is the antidote to the ubiquitous Pasadena cafe with unimpressive avocado toasts, overworked beet and goat cheese salads, and lackluster chicken and waffles. There's always a short wait, but it's never the ordeal of "The Line" at Sqirl or Republique. It's a homey diner experience complete with mismatched mugs and plates piled high with individual creamer cups still cold from the fridge. The menu is comprehensive, but I have yet to try a bad thing. The home runs here though are the sweet breakfast items. The cinnamon bun is big enough for the table to share, and it comes warm and topped with a blanket of smooth icing. This is unbelievably comforting and makes me wonder why there aren't more cinnamon buns in my life. The strawberry crepes are another favorite. They come rolled into wraps of creamy ricotta, blintz style, topped with big strawberry halves dressed in a sugary, goopy syrup. These are fabulous and filling with a choice of eggs and protein on the side. I'm also a fan of the biscuits and gravy, which taste pretty standard (which is to say, amazing) and come in a big portion for the price of a side platter, and the grits, which are so hard to come by in this area! I miss living in the South, where these staples are taken for granted, but the Reyn does them as you can expect from any diner. The chili and hash browns have been very decent in my experience as well. I love the Reyn because fuss-free neighborhood spots like this are getting fewer and farther in between. I like avo toast as much as the next Millennial, but sometimes you just want to skip the shitty, try-hard versions and order a biscuit with gravy instead. read more
